  • Emirates today is one of the largest and most well-connected airlines around, standing out with its impressive all-widebody fleet of A380s and 777s.
To reach this size, it has grown incredibly rapidly, having only been founded in 1985. Let’s take a look back at the founding, development, and rise of Emirates over the past 35 years.

The first time I flew Emirates out of London Gatwick flawlessly and on time just after a snowfall had gripped the UK. Our UK carrier, BA had been threatening flight cancellations due to weather. It later turned out that BA used the weather as an excuse to cover up a management v Staff/Pilot dispute. Bearing in mind the native climate of each respective country, that spoke volumes to me as a first time customer.

Hahahaha, that's what US carrier Southwest did last year when their archaic scheduling system simply failed. They kept blaming the winter weather. Then why were all of their rivals happily taking to the skies while Southwest stood around making up stories? Unfortunately, a LOT of their long time customers are hooked on Southwest-branded cocaine so they'll forget about this ridiculous management disaster, snort some more and keep flying with them. Oh, and Last winter was not the first time their scheduling system failed...

Before emirates started routes from Boston, Lufthansa was one of the only 1 stop options to Chennai, which required us to acquire transit visas and layovers lasted for hours
Emirates had Dubai right in between Boston and Chennai which gave us an efficient one stop route with no transit visa needed

Once had the pleasure to fly business in an Emirates A380. That was very pleasant. On the other hand, their seat pitch in economy seems to be a bit worse than some of their competition. Premium Eco should fix that. No matter the class, their cabin crews are doubtlessly among the best.

Agree on some part. The same logic can be adapted by other gulf airlines, but they didn't just because they lack vision.

Many people seem to forget the beginnings of Emirates.
I used to fly Emirates CGK-SIN-CMB-DXB connecting to DXB-LGW/LHR (choice of LGW/LHR depending on day/availability).
The murderous DXB-CMB-SIN-CGK were replaced by CGK-SIN-DXB (I think they swapped the DXB-SIN to become DXB-CMB-SIN...
With the 777-300, they started the DXB-CGK direct... from 1x daily to now 3-4 daily.
Their success is really, cargo... creating affordable economy class travel. Routes like Hamburg, and Newcastle, reflected this. There's a saying, there are 4 class of services in Emirates. First, Business, Cargo, and lastly, Self Loading Cargo.
I kinda miss the Emirates of the A300/310 era. It had a real boutique airline feel back then!
