  • What is truth? What does it mean to really know something? And what are the best methods and tools to come to know a thing? In this episode of Church History Matters, we begin our new series on Good Thinking, where we explore the important role our brain and intellect play in truth seeking and the life of faith. Specifically in this series, we want to explore what mental moves are made or what frameworks of thinking are used by intelligent, critically thinking Latter-day Saints whose faith is strengthened rather than damaged by diving deeply into our church’s history and doctrine.
This is the first episode of our 10-part podcast series on Good Thinking. For a full transcript of this episode, as well as show notes and additional resources, visit our website at doctrineandcovenantscentral.o...

    Very good program.
My family collectively were divorced from the Utah LDS Church in 1990.
My Great Grandfather convinced his sons that The Church broke a sacred contract when people of color were given the Priesthood. By the time I became a young man I joined the US Navy and abandoned my family and church altogether.
Now that I’m old and I can feel the end of this life is certain, I have become anxious to re-connect spiritually with Christianity.
So, I’ve become an outsider and a critic, but here I am.

Well I'm glad you're here and appreciate the perspective you bring. I hope you're able to grow closer to our Savior, Jesus Christ, in your own way, through listening to these wonderful Brothers. I know listening to these "Church History Matters" series has truly strengthened and edified my spirit. Much love.

Thank you for these discussions. I'm a seeker. I'm also an empath. I understand and experience certain spiritual connections and they don't always fit comfortably with some members of the church.

I like listening to you both
Am still recovering from the second spouse now from suicide. The first from a long term health death.
I know you are all faithful .
Doctors put me on anti-christ drugs...
    I am on them..
    So sorry.

Managing Director brothers: Going into this video, we’re wondering what will be the percussion of this discussion. Hoping that _limitations_ of intellect will be floated and noted! Academics have a pattern of intellectual spectacle, the gall of know-it-all, the stink of overthink, and head hobby theory-making. Hoping you might avoid the void of Bushman-Arrington-like scholar-deity Liberal head disease. Godspeed.

Arrington is not immune from examination. For example if you don’t believe in the spirit of prophecy and revelation then there are automatic assumptions you will make. It is impossible to know the future, no one could have known ahead of time about Christ coming before hand etc. We can guard against such mindsets when we recognize and see them.

Sounds to me like you developed a great series title in the opening. "Critical Thinking in the Information Age."

    I wish things were better.
You are all smart. Ĵust and even thank for your commentary.
I've had a spouse, my second one.
We have been both sealed in the temple.
    Do you have a anything
to say on this "relationship "?
My first was so nieve, we knew so little when we joined the church. 1981, haha
    So sealed 1981, then 2012.
    A confusing, but heavenly, thing.
    Love, Eric

First passed by health, my second, by suicide.

You know the first passed by a long health problem... the second by suicide.
It is so hard to hard to get over that. Why did she leave all of 10 grandkids, 3 children. Mom and a loving husband. WHY.
