The extended version of Hateful Eight is suuuuuuper long and slow paced. Its over 200 minutes long or some shit. Theatrical release would be dope as a play though.
I love Tarantino's movies. With Hateful 8 I found it difficult to get behind any of the characters. None of them seemed to have any admirable or redeeming qualities.
He is in Inglorious Basterds. He narrates the scenes talking about how flammable celluloid film is, and why Hugo Stiglitz is infamous among the German army.
SLJ played a character playing a character. Stephen was a calculating, controlling, tyrannical old man, playing a unassuming, limping, bumbling sycophant. SLJ was the star of the movie and definitely deserved recognition for that.
You have to pick one or the other as they were both in supporting roles. Now here's the other problem. Christoph Waltz was amazing and was the primary supporting actor. You can't nominate 3 people for the same award and all of them were in the same damn movie. I agree Leo and Samuel were awesome but that's just how it is. Waltz won every supporting award you could for his role.
That scene where Steven is holding the brandy or cognac sitting in the chair talking to Leo where he tells him he’s being played was menacing. Absolutely should have been nominated.
Great interview. This reminds me how much Samuel has been a part of my cinematic life growing up. All the way back to Do the Right Thing and Die Hard: With a Vengeance.
His character was despicable, but that’s what made it so good. His character was truly representative of what actually existed. Additionally, that was the planting of the seeds that sometimes causes great strife within the AA community at large.
Classic Howard, always asking a celebrity a question and then talking over them, answering his own question or finishing their sentences before the celebrity has.
Hot take: the released version of Django IS the Director’s Cut… at this point there’s no way someone at a movie studio is telling Quentin Tarantino what to cut out of his films. Also this was the first movie after his editor Sally Menke died and her assistant was given the job; it’s clear QT didn’t have any pushback in the editing chair because the movie was long as hell!
Everyone should’ve been nominated imo. Jamie, Samuel, Leo, Kerry n Kris. Of course Kris won, but everyone else should’ve at least got a nomination. Django is a classic. Everyone played their part in making that film what it is, AMAZING. 💯
Samuel should have gotten the award for Stephen. Everyone did a fantastic acting job there, but Stephen is the role most underappreciated. Imo it was the best performance in Django.
Waltz should have been nominated for main actor not supporting actor. Leo and Samuel should have been nominated for supporting actor. It's incredible to see how good they both were in their roles.

Leonardo Di Caprio Not beeing nominated for Django is the biggest joke i Ever heard… it was an incredible Performance
ikr!!! 😱
Continuing to act after smashing a wineglass stem straight through his hand was bonechilling.
Christopher Waltz deserved his Oscar tbh
It was brilliant, Leo’s best role ever and that’s saying something.
@@djquinn11 yh but what would he be nominated for then?
Waltz was more of a supporting role than Leo, he's been with Django
Samuel definitely deserved an Oscar nod at the very least for Django
Amen
Ordell Robbie (Jackie Brown) is better imo.
I once read Sam say that was his best chance at ever winning an Oscar, which I agree with.
Walt won best supporting, I’m good with that. Same movie, different role, equally amazing.
Stephen was an Oscar winning performance
Hateful Eight is pretty much a play. It takes place in either a stagecoach or the haberdashery, minimal sets and lots of dialogue.
The extended version of Hateful Eight is suuuuuuper long and slow paced. Its over 200 minutes long or some shit. Theatrical release would be dope as a play though.

For what supporting actor? Over Christoph Waltz? Nah. Besides Philip Seymour Hoffman was nominated that year and did better than Samuel honestly.

Both supporting roles

@@longydongy1004 Waltz was more of a main character, so I'd have given him Best Actor and Leo/Samuel best supporting

I love how honest SLJ is.

To me, Hateful Eight is Tarantino's most enjoyable film. Not the actual best, but the most rewatchable. Completely underrated.
Yes think that too! Although ive seen pulp fiction yesterday for the first time in 10 years and that's still a great one too.
Dunno, all of them rewatchable

And it’s in every scene we see him too, his character shifts, into something moreover than we first saw.
We all know or knew a Stephen in real life.

If it wasn't Django, it was the Dentist as the star of the movie.
