Thanks Magic for all the videos, it helped me a lot! Only thing i think is different is about the setting: "Threshold Snap to Unit". It does not change the bevavior about building farms or buildings. It is a threshold about how fast you have to click to snap to a unit. For example: You put a unit on the first group with ctrl + 1. If the setting is on "0" it is very hard to snap to this unit, you have to double tap "1" extremly fast to snap to the unit. If the threshold is on a higher setting you have much more time to double click "1" to snap to the unit. I personally have this setting on max, so i don't have to be extremly fast in double tapping to snap to the unit. If this setting is higher or even on max it is better for me and it is easier to snap to the unit. I think we also having an similar style of hotkeys because it is a mix of the original hotkeys e.g. "h" for TC and some optimizations because at first i used the original hotkeys from the vanilla version and had to make optimizations later. Cheers and keep up the good work!
Another great vid! I"ll be using some of these ideas. For me, I replaced the F keys to be a little more like aoe4. f1 selects all production, f2 all my temples, f3 all my docks, and f4 all my armories. I didn't know you could turn off world tooltips and still get them on the relics, so that's pretty cool too.
OH MY GOD the fucken hotkeys, I never even thought about adjusting it, until this video, now I realized I SHOULD be customizing it to my preferences. Thanks man and I really appreciate your tips on the most important hotkeys, I realized I was inefficient with my waypoint set ups, and a few other things too, thank you.
Thanks for the tips! Feels more "at home" now. There was some uncanniness between this and the OG version. I still feel I like the old graphics more for serious gameplay, because it's much easier to distinguish units. I took a few SS of Norse units fully upgraded and the Champion Berserk, Huskarl, Hirdman, all look pretty similar, specially at 10% zoom.
Would it be possible for you to export your hotkeys, or record them all so those who want to could use the same ones? I would like to try and learn with those hotkeys.
I'm not sure if there's a way to do that, i don't also recommend it, my hotkeys are very strange and wont be comfortable for most players. but if you have a way let me know, no problem with sharing them!
Thanks for the video its helped out a lot! Quick Q, what would your suggestin be for grouping by typing to micro in combat? Id like to have a little bit more control than A clicking in. I set up "select all infantry" for example but then that leaves out myth units etc. Also there isn't a set for seige which is arguably the most important for attacking. Would appreciate it!
Hey, it all comes down to personal preference. For me personally I have my heroes on the middle mouse button now ( I changed this earlier) and I have archers on the side mouse button, if I need to select anything I press ctrl and right click and then it selects all of those type of units, for me this works. For other players the make groups before they enter combat, lots of top players group units from 1 - 3 on their keyboard, so at the end of the day, you just have to do what works best for you!
I would love to know more about your hotkey setup. Maybe get your hot key setup and make a tier A-C list. A being the most fundamental. B being very helpful. And C being niche but ones that you still use. D can be ones that you specifically unmap
Magic, you should add your PC specs in the description. That will help give ppl some context around what they see in your screen and what your hardware is able to produce, visually
Hi Magic, let me ask you, when you select all military buildings or save multiple different military building to a control group, is it possible to change the order of the units? Like for example for greeks Pegasus is shown in the first place, could i set Hoplites as first (so barracks units first and then temple etc)? Thanks!
Select all buildings and being able to make units from that is incredibly useful. What happens if you have 4 archery ranges? Would it spread out 8 archers among those buildings if doing it from that screen?
in hotkeys you say select idle military, what about select all military? I find it useful sometimes but annoying other times, like when it selects your priest/pharoah empowering or it selects a builder for norse. But it is good for selecting the units that are already moving and you want to reroute them. Not sure what to do there.
And I wanted to ask you another question, this one is more important. if i chose to go garrison in one click where is pharaoh key to fix the empowerment effect? Where is it in the quick access options, I can't find it So my pharaoh instead of empowering gets inside because I use W,A,S,D to move the camera
@@IamMagicAOM Well I was testing and it seems that when you activate garrison in one click , alt pass to activate repair and empowerment so was and easy fix
it's 'toggle time' I believe, I have it set to F11, you might it different. check out my video "answering viewer questions" i went through it in detail!
Thanks for the tips. One question: I like to play with grid hotkeys, but the way the garrison/ungarrison keys work right now, they are very hard to use. I saw in your video that you still had them on Alt+X. Do you change them into something else or do you keep that setting?
My guess is that the "Threshold Snap to Unit" settting shown at 17:50 is for increasing the amount of time you have to double tap a control group to jump to a unit. That is just a guess from what I've seen in other rts settings though.
I like how respectfull and proper this motherF is when he talks.. very calm.. very plesant :) Althou, check out your volume settings.. is very low at the moment
Magic how to do for example select a priest take a relic and return to the temple without having to touch the map quickly I see that many professionals do it. What hotkey do they use? And if you locate an inactive villager and move it, how do you return to your original position on the screen to continue the game without wasting time?
use shift! so like i right click the relic and then hold down shift and right click my temple, let me know if that helps! (you can also do similar movements with vills)
@@IamMagicAOM I understand what you're saying about shift, what I don't understand is how they move the camera so fast. I mean, I have to look for the relic on the map and then look on the map where the temple was, and I see that the professionals do it automatically, it is seen more in age 2 where the relics are more important.
All the best players have strange controls so it's tough to copy you guys. Always played by just clicking stuff with the mouse but as I am getting a bit better it's starting to get a bit frustrating, also finding things by mouse on the steam deck screen isn't that simple lol. So I am using hotkeys more, but the default definitely feel like they are lacking in a way, using alt+letters especially is quite uncomfortable so I am having difficulty garrisoning and ungarrisoning (is that an actual word?) units. Guess I'll slowly have to find my own thing and do it.
yep AQ vills are the norm, you out macro the other player by having better villager distribution along with having enough production facilities for making units
You say that you turn World Tooltips to OFF but then you set your World Tooltips Delay to 0. Isn't that contradictory? Because if you turn World Tooltips to OFF then the Delay doesn't matter because the tooltips won't pop up at all.

What do you use 'b' for? only the egyptian lighthouse maps to that building. I would think 't' for temple would be more useful or 'y' for dock
