I can understand Mr Waynes family not wanting his grave to be sensationalized and perhaps at first it would have been. People I think would come to pay respects and think how his movies affected their lives. Thank you sir
My sister was here for a time before my parents moved her to Rose Hills. When she was here John Wayne’s grave was unnamed because there would have been vandalism. It’s so nice to see the marker.
John Wayne is my favorite, because I got to meet him personally in Houston, 1968. He was filming The Hellfighters, story of Red Adair. He approached me and a friend and introduced himself and was very cordial, in the building where we worked and he was filming. I was impressed that he had a giant streamliner kitchen parked in the garage with chefs that he fed the entire crew from. One of the chefs told us that he took that kitchen with him on all his locations where he filmed to feed everyone! The chefs dressed their part, too, by wearing the tall white chef caps. He also had his youngest son about 8 yrs old with him, who ran around playing with a giant toy airplane. A great guy!
John Wayne was my Dad and I's favorite movie star! We loved watching movies of his like Big Jake, El Dorado, The Searchers and Rio Bravo. My dad's been gone for almost 9 years now. And every time I watch a John Wayne movie, it brings up happy memories of my dad.
On Christmas Eve 1985, I and 3 others were invited to Bobby Hatfields house in Corona Del Mar by Linda, Bobby's wife. They were very courteous and humble. I was very sad to hear of his passing. He was a very nice person and his wife Linda who is buried beside him. May They rest in peace.
My late grandpa loved John Wayne. He collected quite a assortment of John Wayne merch from his movies, statues, paintings etc. He looked up to him in his younger years including the time he shook hands with John Wayne with the rest of his fellow Marines on the way back from Korea. My grandpa said he was a huge man in stature and had huge hands to boot hence the nick name of "The Duke". John Wayne loved our armed forces and this meeting was no exception, he shook all the Marines hands including my grandpa and thanked them for their service and gave a speech to them. I still miss my grandpa and have great respect to John Wayne and thank him for making my grandpa very happy throughout his life.
I attended a service at that cemetary a few years ago and had no idea how many notable people were interned there. It just shows that no matter how exciting or how mundane people's lives are, we all end up in the same condition.
My late grandfather had probably 75-80% of John Wayne's movies on video at the time of his 2011 passing. He truly loved watching John Wayne movies all the time. His favorite was True Grit. Glad to see that he finally did get a marker for his grave. Thanks for including him, Arthur.
I got a cat named Thor he loves his John Wayne westerns. All I have to do when he having a bad day is yell hey Thor want to watch the Duke and he gets all happy. Lol
...TO ME THIS HAS BEEN THE BEST TOUR SO FAR....! :) THANKS FOR MAKING THE LITTLE TRIBUTE TO THE ''LEGEND'' JEFF HANNEMAN AND GREATEST THRASH METAL BAND IN THE WORLD......SLAYEEEEEER....!!!
I have driven this road for the last 41 years and didn’t even know of it’s existence. Today I payed my respects to John Wayne. Now that I watched your video I’m going back tomorrow for slayer!!🐺🇺🇸
Jeff Hanneman, An amazing soul, amazing musician, TRUE Metal God, Sadly couldn't be saved by all those that were close to him... Substance abuse is no joke... PLEASE seek help if you or anyone else thinks its a problem... PLEASE!!!
What is it about this channel or series of videos (Hollywood Graveyard) that keeps me coming back and watching every one of them...even multiple times? Is it the care, the research, the respect, the smooth production and style, the perfect narration, the editing, the mastery? It's all of that. I've seen others that do a similar thing but I have to respectfully say Arthur Dark does the best outstanding and respectfully crafted production of these lost talents. Thank you.
Mosaic Rose: Great minds think alike. Hollywood Graveyard has become an integral part of my life. Each new video is a delight. Each past video is a pleasure to watch again (and again).
The mix of recognizable stars with forgotten ones and notable background folks in the entertainment industry seems to be a good mix that will give us videos for a while.
This is my third viewing of Hollywood graveyard and I want to commend the narrator for the outstanding combination of editing, producing and by some arcane magic bringing the dead to life and taking the living into death in a seamless collection of videos. I don’t know what his endgame is but this is one hell of a great resume. Thank you for presenting this to the public.
My god how this makes me aware of my own mortality I can't believe so many of these people I grew up with are dead. People my age are blessed to have lived through the times we did. Entertainers and actors like these will never be duplicated we will never see their likes again amen.
I was moved by the quote on John Wayne’s grave plaque. It’s there for the sake of those who come to pay respects, I think, since Mr. Wayne no longer has to deal with day to day concerns. He was one of a kind and is still missed by those who loved his movies. 💐
One of favorite groups was the Righteous Brothers, it was so sad when Bobby Hatfield died. Such amazing voices these guys had. I love your videos, they are so good.
I have watched many of these gravesite videos, but I must say that I feel yours is by far the BEST. You don't waste time driving around chatting about what you did all day . You zip down the road , telling us about the cemetery. And when you get to the grave, you do a Great job filling us in on the person, and many times playing footage of them singing or acting. You also do a Great job picking the graves. Graves I would like to see are those from "Bewitched", "McHales Navy", "Star Trek", & " Hogan Heroes". Best Wishes and keep up the Great Work.
As always a great video. Thank you for showing James Cagneys siblings and also John Eldredge who appeared in some of The Bowery Boys series with Leo Gorcey (my favourite actor). I look forward to the next one. x
My dad has dementia and it makes him so happy to watch John Wayne movies. If he’s having a bad day I just turn on either Netflix or Amazon prime and he can watch his movies for hours
I watch all of your videos more than once... or twice even. They are so entertaining, respectful, and full of so much info, photos, clips, beautiful landscapes, and exquisite architecture. And like Sesame Street, you've taught me new words, like niche and cenotaph!
southernfriedhippie I was surprised to learn that his brother is Dr. Dubrow the famed plastic surgeon who also appeared on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
I love Hollywood Graveyard, sooooooo much, that each Sunday that a new episode is uploaded, I use it as a motivator, and will not allow myself to watch it, until all my “to do” items, and housework, is DONE. Believe me......the housework gets done! Thanks for my clean house, Arthur Dark!
Bobby Hatfield aww The Righteous Brothers and that they were! I loved Unchained Melody. What a voice. My mom told me when it was popular that an artist by the name of All Hibler had done it much earlier. He was a blind artist.
My parents and my brother are buried here in Bayview Terrace. It's a very lovely and peaceful place to visit and remember wonderful people and wonderful times.
My favourite you tuber. I aways learn something I did not know James Cagney had a brother let alone a sister that were in the business. Love the history lesson so are you ready to teach that college class yet, sign me up...
Loved all john Wayne movies..I'm assumed since John Wayne had such an unassuming way about himself he wouldn't have wanted a large headstone but glad they finally put a marker on his grave.I watched an interview way back when Jeanne carman gave a documentary on Marilyn.Love the tour and all the highlights u give on the stars...I love the stars of the past and knowing something about their lives...Classic time.
Another beautifully produced saunter around the final resting places of the great and those who facilitated their greatness. Love from the UK, Arthur xx
Another beautifully presented video, thank you so much. I love the custom of the wind chimes. You truly have a gift for audio, film and presentation and knowledge of film history. Living here in the UK I have been a huge history lover and my knowledge has been best with the usual British history, kings and queens of England, the Tudors etc . My interest in history is branching out into other eras as I have gotten older and matured, can't get enough of film and music history. For a moment of two I can imagine the era of film, music and culture of my grand parents time. May thanks again, for your hard work for such lovely films.
Isn't it strange how some of the biggest stars have such humble grave markers. Others seem to have extremely lavish tombs. Such an odd balance. Another great vid - thanks for making/sharing.
Thank you for posting this. My dad was a HUGE John Wayne fan. My father passed away suddenly on July 5th. So thank you again for posting it. It makes me feel a little closer to him. ❤💚💜💙💛
I grew up in Corona del Mar California and it's a special place in my heart some of my friends are. Are buried there I think it's one of the better places I've seen so far look deeper you will find brilliant people buried there. Along with the one's you have all ready found there great show thank you sir
I'm biased as I worked there for several years, but it is one of the most beautiful parks in So Cali. Job well done! Didnt know that many celebrities were interred there. Thank you.
I'm not great on acreage, but I think about 200. They have but one small parcel of land left to develop and space for one more small outside mausoleum...until they start filling in roads. Still another 100 years of interments there. Their website has a great tale on the finding of the park In 1960, the University of California Irvine purchased a 1,000-acre plot of land from the Irvine Company for the sum of $1. The site was not the first choice of the regents. Rather, they had their eyes on a plot of land on the slopes of Spyglass Hill, where Pacific View is now located. John Vibert already had a lease on this beautiful parcel, intending to build a cemetery. He wanted nothing more than this captivating, peaceful view overlooking the ocean. When he heard the university wanted that same plot of land, he sprang into action, quickly arranging for 6 burials on his plot in April of 1959 at no cost to the families. He even exhumed and moved a gentleman’s wife so they could rest together in this beautiful new cemetery. This fast decision secured his lease and set the course for Pacific View Memorial
Got to see one of the last shows slayer performed with hanneman...same day I saw lemmy...didnt know then how amazing it would be...lemmy inspired me to articulate and expand my bass playing and hanneman is an inspiration to anyone who picks up heavy music
Lots of the huge stars have very unpretentious graves. Frank Sinatra just has a simple headstone like Wayne's also. Kinda nice to see that they are not in some huge separate mausoleum with their name on it.
I had never heard of your channel until about twenty minutes ago when your most recent exploration of my home of Orange County popped up in my recommended. The minute I saw your channel name and that you had made videos down here, I knew that at some point you would have visited Pacific View! Pacific View is where my grandmother Elaine has been resting since 2015. In fact, you walked right past her when you visited Jeanne Carmen! She is also located in the Sunset Plaza. She chose and purchased the spot in the late 1990s, right after I was born. It was such a trip seeing a place that I've grown to be very familiar with over these last six years but from a whole new perspective. Until know, I only knew that John Wayne was buried here. We had been told, in fact on the day of my grandpa's funeral, that his grave used to have an iron pair of cowboy boots attached to the plaque but that they had been stolen and replaced more than once. I had no idea that so, so many folks within media and showbusiness were neighbors of my grandma! Not someone in show business but certainly someone noteworthy also resting in the Sunset Plaza is a Tuskegee Airman. I can't remember his name but before he passed this past year, we had seen him several times visiting his wife. The cemetary overlooks and empty, trapped reservoir which had been in use until right after the US anthrax mail scares in the early 2000s. It's remained empty ever since. Pacific View is a wonderful place and the chimes are hauntingly beautiful cutting through the usual quiet, minus the sounds of planes flying out of John Wayne.
Thank you for an excellent and respectful presentation. I appreciate the background of the lesser known , without whom there would be no story line or background for a film . Great work ,Mr dark.
Hi Arthur, Evies dad from northern Ireland I can't thank you enough for visiting John Waynes grave he was my favorite actor of all time surprised that his grave wasnt more prominent but the inscription on the marker brought a tear to my eye I look forward to your next Hollywood graveyard visit thank you
The John Wayne grave really struck me such a simple grave marker but then again in the greatest story ever told he had a one-line part and was just had a couple Cameo appearances walking but no large role for him
My favorit is John Wayne. He was an icon and will allways be an icon. I belive that I have seen the most of his movies. Todays western movies are not like the once with John Wayne, Charles Bronson, Yul Brynner, James Coburn, Lee Van Cleef and many more. I would very much like to see more of yours videos with our western heroes
Søs The Sergio Leone films with and without Eastwood are bona fide masterpieces. "The Good, The Bad and the Ugly" and "Once Upon a Time in the West" are my favorites. You're absolutely right in saying they don't make em' like they used to. Movies will NEVER be made that rival these gems of yesteryear.
I'm impressed but not surprised that John Wayne is buried in a run-of-the-mill grave, and not in a big, fancy mausoleum. He became an American icon and larger than life by never acting like he was either. He lived and died like one of us. He was salt-of-the-earth; a man who lived hard, worked hard, and loved every minute of it. He loved and cherished his family and friends, and his love of country was just as strong. John Wayne didn't just love America; he was America. Rest well.
Very nicely said Jim. I agree completely. The only bumper sticker I ever let on my truck ----------------> ~God Bless John Wayne~ Oh and my favorite move, Quiet man. I love the pub scene when they find out who he is, and Squire Danaher tries to belittle him. The songs of the Irish pup singers tear at an old mans heart strings. Thanks for posting this video
Thanks, Gary. Am I the only one who can watch "The Quiet Man" and recite the entire script along with the actors? "Ma'am, you've lost your shoe!" "Mary Kate, will you not be putting up your bonnet?" "The drinks are on the house of Cohan!" And you've gotta love old Michaeline Og Flynn! "When I drink water, I drink water. And when I drink whiskey, I drink whiskey!" "The belligerents will kindly remain in neutral. I thank you." What a grand movie it was! I never grow tired of watching it!
Been binging on these videos. Learned lot's of interesting facts about entertainers I already knew and many I had not heard of, but their contributions were important. I also note that you can see some differences in the generations. Huge stars and military heroes have some of the simplest markers. Some with no mention whatsoever of their notoriety. Newer markers seem to have more decoration. We hear of their passing but rarely get to see where they are quietly resting. I'm also impressed by the fact that the world famous and barely famous share the same grounds and a certain amount of anonymity, only being seen by the people who are looking for them. Also bums me out because it reminds me that it's all of our futures.
I find these videos fascinating! I would have thought John Wayne had a more ornate burial plot; like Michael Landon. I just love the history tidbits on the people we never saw on screen but had as much to do with a films success as the actors....fascinating thank you for posting these.
Vivian S And still there is nothing wrong with a “pretentious” mausoleum if it is what these people asked for or wanted in death. Neither you nor I had to pay for it so it should be none of our concern. Let’s be respectful. I’m sure Mr. Wayne is very satisfied with his simple plot just as other celebrities are with their “pretentious” mausoleums
13:34 Kevin Dubrow is the brother of the very wealthy & popular Hollywood plastic surgeon Terry Dubrow, MD, who is on the TV show "Botched". Terry's wife is Heather Dubrow who was on "The Real Housewives of Orange County" for a few years.
One of the most enjoyable evenings my wife and I spent with friends was when we went to Medley's a nightclub in Fountain Valley, Ca. Owned by Bill Medley. After dinner the show started with Bill signing with his house band, when Bobby Hatfield walked in. For the next two hours they entertained the audience with a great show.
I visited Pacific View Memorial Park and also Westwood Village Memorial Park back in 2014. Got some great pics of famous graves including this one with John Wayne. Lovely memories!
Love these tours! I learn so much about people who have long since passed or have just recently passed. Also, thank you for including Bobby Hatfield. I love his song, Unchained Melody very much. My dad used to play that song growing up. I was lucky to be raised on 50s, 60s, and 70s music, despite being born in the 90s. Keep up the great work, Arthur! I look forward to the next graveyard tour!
@@TakahashiTakami You are missing the point. To say pass is incomplete and trying to pass it off as saying died is an ineffective euphemism, which tries to dress up death. Use and understand language properly that is my point.
I just got myself a cup of coffee and a couple of cookies and what do I find....a new post from my FAVORITE RUclips channel!!! Can it get any better than this??? Thanks for the perfect Sunday morning Mr. Dark!!! 😘💀😍

I'm glad you included Jeff Hanneman, a personal hero of mine. RIP Jeff.

Same here 🤘 RIP Jeff. We miss you.

I wish out of his family there could have been a doppelganger born. But I guess there could never have been two of him in the world.
Is it true that he would not have any black actors in his movies?

John Wayne did A movie called Brannigan in London!🙂
Same here. I think it shows you that death is not a scary lonely thing. You end up in a "community " with others.
Not wierd. It does the same for me also. And it is so nice to hear their stories and lives.

I always imagined The Duke had at least a large powerful headstone. To see such an unassuming marker seams a little sad, yet also fitting.
I'm glad he has a fairly simple but picturesque grave marker. It suits the inner John Wayne to not have to swagger or be imposing.
He’s got such a cool marker though. Very humble and nice 😁
Same applies to Frank Sinatra
I think they wanted us to remember their talent, not a giant headstone.

Lots of the huge stars have very unpretentious graves. Frank Sinatra just has a simple headstone like Wayne's also. Kinda nice to see that they are not in some huge separate mausoleum with their name on it.
Same can said for the Chairman of the Board, Frank Sinatra. Arthur visited his grave too.
Perhaps, some actors prefer to be remembered in their roles when they were alive and not in death.
Hi Arthur, Evies dad from northern Ireland I can't thank you enough for visiting John Waynes grave he was my favorite actor of all time surprised that his grave wasnt more prominent but the inscription on the marker brought a tear to my eye I look forward to your next Hollywood graveyard visit thank you
The John Wayne grave really struck me such a simple grave marker but then again in the greatest story ever told he had a one-line part and was just had a couple Cameo appearances walking but no large role for him
Keep something in mind his Grave there was unmarked for 20 years until he finally got one
I loved John Wayne, favorite movie " Rio Bravo" with Dean Martin. Walter Brennan and Ricky Nelson. Great movie.
Jim Townsend or his family were just stingy tightwads🤷🏼♀️
Very well said!
He never left the US to fight in the war!
You give him too much respect and credit!
Love your videos!!! That cemetery is beautiful
I love watching your videoes i go back and watch the back ones keep up the excellent work
Thank you for always highlighting the pioneering women in an industry ran by the boys. The unsung heroines of the past. It's awesome. Best channel!
The little bird seems like an angel keeping watch over the dead. Interesting tour. thanks.
I cannot believe John Wayne has such an unassuming grave 💙
You are the Best!!!!
Excellent and tasteful video as always. Thank you for sharing your excellent work.
Love all the great videos
Thank you for the wonderful entertainment and information, Arthur and Giuseppe!
I find these videos fascinating! I would have thought John Wayne had a more ornate burial plot; like Michael Landon. I just love the history tidbits on the people we never saw on screen but had as much to do with a films success as the actors....fascinating thank you for posting these.
John Wayne's gravestone is perfect. So tasteful.
Yes, so unassuming, like him. He would have laughed at a pretentious mausoleum like some of the other stars.
You've made my Sunday! Thank you Mr. Dark!
John Wayne is my hero
They don’t make them like him anymore sadly 🙏🏻💜
Love visiting graves of people that were great actors and actresses! Musical also! Let's people know...we are all headed in the same direction!!!
Another fantastic episode ❤
Thanks for giving Jeff Hanneman a shout out.
joe s Jeff was taken to young, such a shame I miss him and the mighty Slayer.
So many sad stories among the famous.. and yet such talent!
I visited Pacific View Memorial Park and also Westwood Village Memorial Park back in 2014. Got some great pics of famous graves including this one with John Wayne. Lovely memories!
As always awesome! Thank you Arthur!
Loved seen the dukes resting place,
Huge thank you Arthur.
John Wayne, a patriot
The Duke__ True Legend!!👏🏼👍🏼💙🙏🏼🙏🏼
I'm from Missouri. It is so cool to have some amazing people come from there to california to become memorable people.
Please don't use the phrase "passed" - it is a euphemism and begs the question - passed what ? A bar, an exam ? People die they do not pass.
@@AGMundy In this context, I think it’s pretty clear what I meant…to pass away, to die, they both mean the same thing.
@@TakahashiTakami You wrote passed - not passed away.
@@AGMundy I know, but in this context, they both mean the same thing.
@@TakahashiTakami You are missing the point. To say pass is incomplete and trying to pass it off as saying died is an ineffective euphemism, which tries to dress up death. Use and understand language properly that is my point.
Without an ounce of hyperbole, this is the best channel on RUclips.
Awesome video. Thank you for mentioning Kevin and Jeff at the end. They were two of my favorite musicians.
Incredible that The Duke has such a modest stone.
thank you for the Jeff Hanneman grave. I am a huge Slayer fan and have to make the trip (and see the duke while there)
Yay! The Duke. My idol. His legacy lives on. Thank you for making these videos.
Who are the losers that give these videos a thumbs down?? They are all phenomenal!!
I just got myself a cup of coffee and a couple of cookies and what do I find....a new post from my FAVORITE RUclips channel!!! Can it get any better than this??? Thanks for the perfect Sunday morning Mr. Dark!!! 😘💀😍
Awesome!!!! You made my day!!!!! You’re getting better and better each time!!! 👍
Thank you for visiting John Wayne's gravesite, one of his movies was where my dad and mom's first date.
