    Watching this in April, 2024 because thanks to John, I have developed an interest in vintage military watches, and this video along with Simon from Watch the Time are the only good videos on this watch! Listening to John thank his 60 subscribers so far was funny and endearing at the same time. I’m thinking of throwing this on a Watch Gecko vintage bracelet. Thanks for the great review!

    Glad you recommend viewers to look into the history of the watch as your version was a little muddled. I own a CWC and the Baltany version does look a wee bit chunky compared with the original which is really slim. The CWC is finely brushed with an accurate Swiss movement and CWC straps are excellent quality. They are also expensive for a utilitarian watch and do not feature modern refinements like a sapphire crystal or decent water resistance. In most respects the Baltany is better value and their products get good reviews. For me the heritage of the watch was important so I bit the bullet and went for the original and haven’t regretted it, sometimes only the real thing will do.

      Well I can only apologise 😞 I do my best to get people interested in watches but as you know there are many sources to glean info from. Any mistakes are not deliberate but it's nice to know there is always someone who knows better. Of course the Baltany is not like the original. Baltany take a little artistic licence on their pieces.

    Great video of a nice homage to the legendary W10. I am a happy owner of a CWC W10 Mellor 72 (as well as an G10)
    The W10 was the first watch CWC made for the MOD when Mr. Mellor left Hamilton as Hamilton was not interested anymore in the MOD contract so he started his new company The Cabot Watch Company aka. CWC.
    What I don't get on the Baltany is the two lume colours. Does not make sense at all.

    • @johnswatchjoint
      @johnswatchjoint  2 года назад +2

      That's a fair point. For continuity and the ability to see clearly one lume colour would be better however for the average desk diver, like me, having the sapphire and twin lume gives you something to brag to your mates about at the pub! Thanks for watching and subscribe if you like what I am trying to do.
      :)

      A very succinct history. Like you I am a very happy owner. The pain of the asking price meant that I was not immediately in love with it on arrival but it kind of sneaks up on you, in fact I think I appreciate this watch more every time put it on, which is turning out to be most days. The simplicity, honesty and heritage make the CWC a joy to own. for those who don’t value the heritage or balk at the price, this Baltany seems a good, if chubby, alternative.

    I hope you purchased a Shure SM7 don’t need batteries or phantom power (48 volts) they have sounded great for 50 (??) years. Jimmy Dore uses a SM7 on air. USD$350??….they are worth twice whatever the purchase price. No I don’t have any left…..sold out in an hour, way back when.Appreciate your directness John.

    Nice review. This is a very nice watch I must admit, very good homage of the W10. The only complaint is the thickness of the case, which is the only aspect where the original military specs are not respected. According to the original specifications in fact the case should have a maximum thickness of 10mm. The problem for Baltany is that using a caliber like Seiko NH38 is not possible to reduce it, it would be nice if they make a thinner version with a caliber like Myota 9015 for example, or even a quartz version.

    • @johnswatchjoint
      @johnswatchjoint  2 года назад +3

      That would be cool. You are right but even my daughter wears this with its thickness and loves it. Watching Baltany as I think they are doing good things for a very basic price.

    • @heisenberg470
      @heisenberg470 2 года назад

      @@johnswatchjoint Yeah it is nice of course. But I would wear it only with the leather straps like yours, image how the thickness would increase on the wrist with a NATO strap! 😃 Thank you for your answer, cheers 👋

    • @johnswatchjoint
      @johnswatchjoint  2 года назад +2

      @@heisenberg470 Yep...I mentioned in the video that it is unwearable on the NATO as it is too high...but hey...you get a free NATO for the price ;). Thanks for your comments.

    I have the Hamilton version and paid full price for it. Which, at the time was about $1000 aud. If this was available at the time I probably would have gotten it instead. The Hamilton has a mineral crystal and I’ve already scratched it.

    If you sell on San Martin pieces on eBay.
    You should get 2/3 or more of your money back. I have been trying to bid on some, I get outbid if I only go to 2/3 of Ali price.

      @johnswatchjoint  2 года назад

      @@johnswatchjoint i have 3 of them.
      I love my SN004 vintage diver in 39mm.
      I also have the SN008 in black. PT 5000, love this as well. I would buy more but they are at a price that you have to plan ahead. Pagani etc are more of a whim purchase. I think the higher price and quality helps with bonding with the watch.
      I can’t bond with my Pagani watches even though I like the quality for the price.
