      Unfortunately 25 years is also too late, if they really wanted to bring back the people mover they would most likely need to tear down and replace most of the tracks and supports since rocket rods screwed them up, which means that they would need to do another tomorrow land make over, while having a people mover back sounds nice, Disney would probably change tomorrow land into another Star Wars section or replace most of the rides with Star Wars IPs

      I think they SHOULD bring back a “new and improved” Peoplemover!!! Rocket Rods WAS a good idea at the time, but I, personally, failed to see how it could be in the “World of Tomorrow”, per se…
      1.) The Monorail 🚝…✅ (just to Seattle, for a broader experience);
      2.) I believe SOME countries have pondered the concept of a Peoplemover…✅;
      3.) Submarines for non-military or non-scientific purpose…Hmm 🤔!!! Some places in the world you could find this experience NOT “confined” to a destination resort or tourist trap 🪤…✅;
      4.) I SUPPOSE, if you wanted a more macro cosmic Autopia “experience”, get yourself a go-cart or a Can-Am dune buggy and chart your OWN adventure…✅.
      But a Rocket Rod taking you from the airport to downtown to that destination resort…🫤…NO…👎!!!

    The late 80s and early 90s were the pinnacle of Tomorrowland (including the Starcade and the old speedramps). Hell I'd say that era was where Disney itself peaked as a company. What really made having the People Mover much less likely to return is the damage done on the track with that short lived Rocket Ride which had speeds and loads put on the track that was designed for the People Mover cars and the speeds they did compared to that, especially on the sharp turns which the Rocket Ride had to do sudden downs.

    I'm glad someone pointed out this stuff because if the Tomorrowland sign's still up it probably means they're not doing anything to the track. Also I wish more people knew that the skeleton and mechanics of the original Astro Orbiter (don't remember the actual name) were still on top of the load platform of the People Mover! It's another ride that was still in use as a moving art piece but hasn't been fixed in years.

    I have just finished my first ever Disneyland trip (flying home in the morning) and Tomorrowland was a pretty sad place. Seeing the peoplemover and old rocketjets track and platforms, as well as the old COP/America Sings/Innoventions/Launch Bay building all being partially abandoned, or at the very least, not living up to their potentials. I got to go into the DVC lounge and while nice, the entire time I’m just thinking about how I wish this was still Carousel of Progress. A COP style show could still work there. The Peoplemover is only getting more popular in WDW’s Magic Kingdom and I hope one day they bring it back, in some form or fashion, to what is the best US Disney park by a mile, in my opinion.

    the track is so embedded in tomorrowland it would have to be demolished as part of a complete overhaul of the land. if they have no plans in the immediate future for tomorrowland they could do something creative with the track like converting it into a 3/4 mile walkway. cover the rocket rods rails with wood or metal flooring, and encase the track in a clear dome-like bubble for safety. the peoplemover station could be used for an observation deck as well. anything but leave it how it's been all these years!

      I hated the rocket rods.
      I live near Disneyland and grew up with annual passes in SoCal. I was near the front of the ropes when Eisner opened the new Tomorrowland. Rocket rods had a 3.5 hr wait. It was a similar wait when Indian Jones opened too. I was there for that as well. The rocket rods seemed to brake every time it gained speed.
      Test Track at Epcot, or Racers at CA Adventure, are significantly better designs. I personally liked people movers better than Rocket Rods even when I was a younger.
      If I am not mistaken, the track placed too much stress on some of the concrete beams and they suffered irreparable damage. Also, Disney isn’t too big on spending money in parks. That is especially true if it’s not connected to an IP. The creative gamble days are gone, unfortunately.

    The peoplemover cannot be brought back at this point. The ADA and OSHA restrictions prevent that from happening as the tracks, in their current state, do not support the ability to allow safe access in the event of an emergency. This is why Alice in Wonderland had to be partially redone years back. They would need to completely rebuild the attraction, which we all know wont happen.

  • @Buc_Stops_Here
    @Buc_Stops_Here 5 месяцев назад +1

    It is really too bad that the Disney Imagineers totally messed up the ride and had to close it. They re-engineered it to be the high-speed ride it was for a short period of time as it ruined the supports and structure of the track as they did not re-enforce it enough for the stress the new vehicles caused, permanently damaging the structure. The cost to refurbish it is way too high to return it to what it was. So, while it is used for these crazy purposes now with minimal investment, the Walt Disney World version in Orlando still operates to this very day in its original form. Really too bad they took a classic ride and made it into a ride that stunk (it was not great in its new form) that just successfully destroyed infrastructure at the California park.

    I would love to see them turn around and make the track into a kinetic art sculputure. They have vehicles that move along with shapes that are on the vehicle. They would turn and rotate and rise and fall. Maybe spew some bubbles as they travel. The vehicles would meet up along the way, connect and they do a bigger presentation and then swap elements between vehicles which would then separate and continue along their way. The vehicles could move both forward and backward within a block section of the track. Just an idea to throw out into the universe.

    Disney cannot bring the People Mover back to Disneyland legally because of California's OSHA laws.
    All new rides and attractions built after 1993 have to have clearence 100% all the way around the attraction for an adult to have their arms out at full length. To comply with this, Disney would have to wider the tunnel in every single building the track runs through.
    Next issue is the tracks condition. Rocket Rods damaged the supports because the vehicles were to heavy for how it was designed. This is part of the reason Rocket Rods closed among other reasons.
    Finally, You have the ADA issue. Many parts of the old people mover were built before ADA laws were a thing and evacuating a wheel chair in many parts of that track in today's world wouldn't be possible in the event of a sudden power loss and it couldn't be restored in a timely fashion.
    All these combined are why you see on WDW's People Mover a much wider track than the original version (Disneyland's). For Disney to bring back the People Mover (and honestly, they would probably upgrade it to use the same cars/track as WDW's People Mover) would require major work and a lot of down time all over Tomorrowland for an attraction that was closed many years ago. Which while cool, doesn't really fit the "tomorrow" theme anymore.

    I loved those storm troopers up there with the super bright yellow safety straps, I mean I get it they need to wear those, but is there an OSHA rule that says they need to be that visibility yellow color and stick out like a sore thumb? Hell the characters high on parade floats aren't that obvious with their security devices.

    I actually have this weird story when I went to Disneyland a long time ago I saw the tracks of the abandoned people over and my reactions like what is that track also in the back and then I didn't think about what is and a few years later it was the peoplemover

    Not the People movers, the Rocket Rods. And that's what I'm going to do, to reopen the ride with the new look of the entrance.

    Does anyone know if Disney Land still has their "people mover". I was there in/around 2009, and they were getting ready to add to the track, and adding more to Tomorrow Land!

      Walt Disney World still has the Peoplemover, unfortunately the Disneyland version is still very much abandoned.

    Interesting... and I want them to remove this in the worst way. It looks horrible. And I rode rocket rods. And People Mover. Make is a long TRON run or something but to have it sit there and continually decay... ugh.

    They should restore it and have it shorten the ride skipping the section over Autopia.

    Not fixable
    Disney would have to completely remove and rebuild
    We all know this is not going to happen.
