How about Kratos telling Atreus the origin of his name? It was really heartwarming to learn that Atreus was named after a Spartan warrior who inspired hope in his fellow Spartans, and saved not only Kratos, but also the lives of many other warriors, turning the tide in their favor thanks to his sacrifice.

Sometime it work, sometime it fail
For me was the reveal of the Blades of Chaos one of the best moments in gaming in years .. Kratos saying "I need to dig up the past" .. The boatride home ... The vision of Athena ... And finally the reveal with that epic soundtrack.
Goosebumps ...
Especially if you played the original games.
And you don't even have to watch them to feel hyped.

When I saw that the Blades were back I was like "NO WAY! THE DAMN BASTARDS, THEY ACTUALLY DID IT! YES! FUCKING YES!!!"
I just experienced that scene for the first time and I cried tears of happiness when I got those beautiful weapons again, thank you Santa Monica studios for the experience of a lifetime
Even without playing the games, that moment, blew my expectations out of the f**king water!
The first encounter with The Stranger and the ending should easily be 1 and 2.
The game in itself is a bloody masterpiece that needs to be played..

Ive never felt like more of a god than when I beat the Valkyrie queen. That boss was possibly the hardest boss ive ever fought in all of the God of war games.
I finished all the Dark Souls games, Bloodborne and Nioh and still had really much trouble with that boss.
I beat her in like 6 attempts. Interesting right? First playthrough of DS3 I spent a few hours bashing my head against Nameless King, same for Orphan of Kos in Bloodborne. In GoW I spent over an hour on my first Valkyrie (Gondul, so a pretty tough one) but then when it came to the queen I was done in 15 minutes.
Dan Griffin Took me 6 attempts too. I found the blades of chaos are the most effective cause she moves around a lot and they hit fast and hard. Plus you definitely need the Valkyrie armour or any armour that you can upgrade upto level 8.

Keivn Lopez, Admittedly no, I played on the regular difficulty. I don't play many hack an slash games in that vein, same with Devil May Cry. I start on more regular difficulties then work my way up until I beat Dante Must Die difficulty. but I find those kinds of difficulties obnoxious; it's why I never play Skyrim on anything above Adept since all it does is lower your attack and raise enemy damage and health. It's like artificial difficulty and just makes each encounter a trial of attrition.
Plus I admit this is my first God of War game, so I'm a bit of a noob, although it did make me go and buy the GoW 3 remaster :D

Barlog and company have laid out one very complex and convoluted story though. It's going to be quite interesting to see how it all plays out. Food for thought. Mimir tells a story of how Thor hits Jormungandr so hard during Ragnarok that he sends the serpent back in time. Atreus is Jormungandr's father. Atreus and/or Kratos can't kill Thor before Thor fights Jormungandr during Ragnarok or none of the events of this game can take place...

Getting the blades of chaos and seeing Athena literally gave me goosebumps n I was like oh shit... And I'm still waiting to find out what happen after he was gone from the cliff and how he got to midgard

What also gave me goosebumps was the fact that they got back the same voice actress from the first 2 games for Athena in that scene. Not that the other one from the PSP games and GOW 3 wasn't bad just that it made Athena sound younger for some reason. They have to explain alot about what happen to Kratos after GOW 3, hell there's no excuse for not explaining that in this game. We've been waiting for that answer for 8 fucking years!!!

Nicolas that’s the point, Baldr was looking for faye (Atreus’ mother) not kratos, she’s a giant and giants are from Jötunheim not midgard, it just happened as an extreme coincidence that what baldur was talking about could fit kratos, but he was looking for faye, hunting what might have been the last giant on midgard
I think Thor's appearance at the end and when Atreus calls Jormungand to attack the giant should have been honorable mentions.

Blades of Chaos are one of the iconic objects that represents God Of War. Where ever you see it, your mind will think about God of War. If a God of War game doesn't include the blades of Chaos, you know something is definitely missing in that game.

I agree with the list, but Atreus calling Jormungandr needs to be here!!
And the moment were serpent talks to mimir and the serpent circling the bridge to the right direction with his head gives me chills

First boss battle: I FEEL NOTHING!!!
Last boss battle: I FEEL EVERYTHING
My favorite scenes are when Arteus kills for the first time and Kratos comforts his son. When Arteus kills the deer it was such a nice moment, but when he almost dies from killing his first human, Kratos comforts his son. I nearly cried, because we all know Kratos loves his son with all he has. He just has trouble expressing it, but when he took his son's face in his hands I may have cried. My Dad had a hard time expressing his feelings, so these father and son moments really got to me. It's beautiful.

Maik Bam It was the first one he had to get up close and personal for. If he killed anything else, it was with his arrows at a safe distance.
Willis Allen Jr It was always touching when Kratos would reach toward his son but draw back, like he had no idea what he was supposed to do to as a father. He wanted to provide comfort, he just didn't know how.

The final fight with baldur could've at least gotten some mention. That and the aftermath of it.

Mimir's stories were great to listen to while travelling. It made it enjoyable.

My brother and dad who doubted me when I said that they were going to put the Blades in the game were the ones jumping out of their seats like two dudes scoring the sickest basketball shot in history. It was just so perfect. I told them, "Neither of you get to use the Blades."
Even in 2022, the blades of chaos are far better than the leviathan axe

Great list but I think the dragon boss fight deserved to be higher than the various plot points you put in its place. But number 1 is well deserved! That moment gave me goosebumps.

My favorite moments from GOW among the ones you mentioned:
When Kratos and Atreus meet Mimir.
Freya encouraging Kratos to tell his son the truth of what he is.
Kratos entering the light of Alfheim.
Entering Jömungandr's belly.
When Baldur dies.
The end where Kratos tells the story of the great Spartan warrior, Atreus, the guy whom his son was named after.
Would've put the secret ending on the list as an honourable mention- you can just FEEL Thor's unbridled power in that cutscene
Im still confused why its called "secret" since the game literally tells you to go home...

Totally agree with #1. It was so badass. I pretty much used the Blades of Chaos for the remainder of the game unless required not to.
The most goosebumps scene was the revealing of atreus real name and kratos seeing the paintings about the past and future in the giants mountain it gave me a lot of goosebumps
Kratos says clearly in the game that the wine is from Lemnos, not Sparta. Those are two different places in Greece and I'm pretty sure that their wines are different as well. Even nowadays, Lemons produces few of the best wines in Greece. Sparta on the other hand... I don't really think so.
I can't be the only one who loves the scene when Kratos tells Atreus that he must be better than him. It's so emotional and makes me shed a tear. I think that the final boss fight with Baldur should have been in the list. Especially Atreus and Kratos's combo attack on him.
Once I saw the blades, my heart was pounding. Once it dropped me back in and Mirmir says "Let's see what those blades can do" along with the buildup of Kratos' theme, it was on. From there, experience took over.
This was one of the most masterfully orchestrated moments in games.
Feeled the same but i used the axe for 85% of the Game.....much more variety imo
Easily my favorite game of this gen. My favorite moments were Kratos and Atreus fighting Baldur as well with the first fight with him. I also like the stories Kratos told Atreus and how they reflect on his own life

Yep number 1 really is epic for what it represents in the story and in addition to that the game wouldn't really feel like a god of war game without the blades of chaos.
The fact that our muscular memory on those chaos blades came RIGHT BACK the minute we got a chance to use those chaos blades.., that alone made this an incredible game. It was like putting on an old pair of shoes.

AllOfThePoptarts 1024 Why? It's harmless...to the living. Didn't even care when Kratos was flying a boat around.
To be honest, I loved the entire sequence in which Kratos and Atreus go to the area around Thamur's corpse. The reveal of the area directly following the end of Mimir's retelling of the story of Thamur is so chilling. Also, it leads to the fight with Magni and Modi.
I also love the section where Atreus is being a total brat and stops responding to your commands while attacking enemies on his own. It's an interesting story detail that translates well from cutscenes to actual gameplay.
The fact that people have their own ideas about what epic moments should be in this video just shows how great this game is

Everyone missed the moment when kratos and his boi is about to scatter ashes but kratos finally let's go his past while saying 'i have nothing to hide'. That was epic. The music was also epic too
My favorite scene in the game was When Kratos and Atreus drink wine. Just a simple bonding moment between the two. Also, You misspelled “BOI”, watchmojo.😉

I’ve always been in assassins creed fan but after playing this game I was blown away. I know I was late to the party but now I got to go back and play the other god of war games. Made all assassins creed after Black flag look like Doodoo

YES!!! The #1 moment was the Blades Of Chaos! I knew it would be the best moment! I mean throughout all the series, the Blades are his signature weapons! From that point on, it was a whole new game and gamechanger...
100% agreed. Especially number 1. I never played the originals, but watched my friend go through it, so I knew and liked the story. It was INCREDIBLY satisfying to retrieve the (*spoilers*) after that buildup of a boat ride. I smiled in ecstasy 😈😆!!

I do wonder how Kratos could have the Blades of Chaos since they were stripped from him by Ares at the end of GoW and so was given the Blades of Athena by Athena at the end which were then changed into the Blades of Exile by her ghost in GoWIII
Plus, he threw aside the Blades of Exile to punch Zeus's face to a bloody pulp.
And I was wondering the exact same thing about the Blades of Chaos.

I've never played God of War before but in this damn quarentine I bought the game. I have to say it's easily one of the best games I've ever played. The level of excitement brings back that 12 year old me. Can't wait to play the Trilogy and hope for more GoW games!
