Rebecca Laguerre : I think i know what you're trying to say, and maybe this example can describe it. If the census was informal, and required each person to write short paragraphs that described their lives, then wouldn't every single collected anecdote, all 300,000,000 of them, when ordered and systematized, reveal the average age, household number, etc. of a country. Those anecdotes, when collected on a massive scale and when formalized, would yield data. I think this is what you mean, but, of course, put in my words.
A lot of data is just many many many anecdotes. The difference between anecdote and actual data is quantity & specificity, no? At least for the polled data used in statistical analysis. You have to be sure to analyze as few aspects & as many instances as possible, but if we're using "anecdote" in the sense of "one person's experience or story", then ye, I'm pretty sure that's how it works.
-Rainbow Bubbles- you’re trying to collect data at that point, not anecdote, you’re collecting data from anecdote, of course it still isnt the plural of anecdote, it’s something else
Crisis in 2025 is looking like a pretty good theory.I feel like Matthew McConaughey in Interstellar imagining my 15 year old self watching this video when it came out.
Isn't that the point, when you think about it? Truly, everything we do is to make life, better than it was before, to make it easier. P.S. I know this wasn't a serious comment, I'm just saying it's a bit hypocritical.
@@SarahAbramova i believe that the quote was about someone who thinks themselves better than others, some superiority complex stuff. like the stuff you would hear from an honors student, "i have it SO rough. i have to write 3 essays by tomorrow, be in 2 clubs, and go to five 3 hour track meets. did i mention that i volunteer over the summer at a camp for disabled kids? anyway, no one in the world could be having a harder time than me, i'm so much better and you don't have a right to complain about life."
Personally, I think the core of juvenoia is *envy.* We tend to hate young people because we want what they have: the mere fact that they aren't as close to the end of their lives as we are. We've lived long enough to know that a person's youth is a special, irreplaceable thing. And we tend to feel like such a precious thing is being wasted on those who gain it at the same time that we lose it.
I think society is too morally obsessed with youth. Society is more patronizng to young people for flaws and nuances than the elders. In fact, older people are praised for having flaws and vices
What? 💀 Juvenoia is caused by a lot of things, envy is not a major contributing factor. I've had some juvenoia myself with Gen Alpha and I do _not_ envy being them. 😭

…and that’s the key to psychology, we only have to distinguish whether someone is an outlier or falls within the “norm” - or the typical pattern of human behavior.
Topics such as these are undoubtedly one of the biggest reasons why this channel is as huge as it is. That alone tells you enough that maybe things aren't as bad as some people are concerned they are. While all of your crazy physics and astronomy videos are incredibly entertaining and interesting I think your videos in regards to social phenomena have to be the most fascinating ones, Michael.
So all generations grow up acting stupid and reckless, but by the time they grow up becoming more mature and experienced in life they criticize younger generations because their memories of there younger days have become too abstract to relate to how teenagers behave.
Well...while I agree, I see a lot of kids doing drugs now but I can't relate to that, I don't do the same. So there is nothing to remember or forget. Guess it depends on an individual person
+Aurelija Špakauskaitė There have always been kids doing drugs, and there are still plenty that don't. The difference now is that they have more social leeway to be vocal about it and they have a voice that can be heard through social media.
+X Maneuver As a teenager i highly disagree, Most of my generation are bunch of juveniles !, Superficial and easily affected by the media, Following any trend no matter how ridiculous it is ! , Have the worst taste in music and art. A lot of teenagers nowadays have lack of personality, They attend to copy a celebrity identity !, They are not even trying to create their own view of anything, Most of the teens now have lost the ability to think and question anything, They just accept any thought any fact society throws at them !.
My sister told me that when she was an incoming freshman, the seniors always said that her grade was the worst one the high school has ever seen. When I was an incoming freshman and my sister was a senior, she told me that my grade was the worst the school as ever seen. When I was a senior and my brother was an incoming freshman, my classmates told me his grade was the worst the school has ever seen. And now that my brother is a senior in high school, he tells me that the incoming freshmen are the worst grade the school has ever seen. I would have to say that there appears to be an interesting case of Juvenoia like attitude at this smaller scale too. I always thought about it as a bit ridiculous especially when it came to these bigger generational divides because it demands a generalization in the belief that your generation or one prior to it was somehow the best. i hate my generation i was born in the wrong century someone take me back to the 1890s when good bands like led zeppelin were around and tuberculosis was ravaging the nation
I wish I had been born in the 1st Century BC when Taylor Swift used to be good and the Flintstones were alive. Trepanning used to be awesome. 😥 R.I.P Jesus Died 644 B.C
This is all pretty much what I've been saying when people freak out about things kids do these days. It is other people of my generation suddenly got amnesia when they became adults and forgot what it was like when they were kids. It is also why I think the whole "act your age" thing is self-destructive. When I was growing up adults around me always seemed uptight and angry. Now as an adult I understand why it is the societal expectation that you should act a certain way because you get older. An older person "shouldn't" enjoy video games, cartoons, pop music, and etc. They need to be serious and mature! Bullcrap! That "expectation" is making people MISERABLE! You can be responsible and still do what you love to do at the same time. Being mature means balancing responsibilities and things you love doing, not giving up what you love doing to focus entirely on responsibilities. That line of thinking, that "societal norm" is killing us with stress. Well, go tell society what it can do with itself and live your self how you want to live it and not how you are "expected" to live it. Society can take those expectations and shove them where the sun doesn't shine. I'm 47, BTW.
It sucks that we can't find a happy medium. Spending a lot of time outside without adult supervision literally makes kids better at life, more confident, less anxious, etc. I wish all kids could have that but still relate to mainstream culture with memes and RUclips and all that. Most of the kids I know (through my work) hardly even get to go outside because their parents are so overprotective and devices are such cheap babysitters. I love young people and new stuff so I'll never be someone who writes furious blog posts about kids these days and Tide pods, but I do wish kids had more freedom and free time. There has been an increase in mental illness and a lot of it is because of how dysfunctional and sedentary/isolated our culture is
@@no_peace reading this makes me feel less anxious. Just knowing that I'm not the only person with these types of ideas makes me feel less isolated and hopeful for society, and that I'll be able to find good friends.
But those Xbox live kids say stuff that isn't really offensive anymore. I hear someone call me a bitch, I say, fuck you. But back in the past, kids would cry a shit ton as they weren't exposed to curse words.
I get it though. People tend to mistreat their bodies while they are young and miss opportunities that they won't have later because their brains aren't fully formed.
@Kaden Peterson just remember that a generation enjoys the technologies and innovations of the time and even if it's alien to you, it's familiar to them, let them take advantage of their newfound technology that wasn't around in your time

In fact, older people are praised for having flaws and vices
anyone who agrees with this is miserable as fuck lmfao jesus christ
A very acute observation
Or the fact that their lives may have been easier then people back then of their age
What? 💀 Juvenoia is caused by a lot of things, envy is not a major contributing factor. I've had some juvenoia myself with Gen Alpha and I do _not_ envy being them. 😭

+X Maneuver Basically.

The 2025 prediction aged like a good wine
You are exactly right. Great comment man!
You are exactly right. Spread the word!

+Joanna Zhao You are gonna catch it too! Just wait!
+Jason Fischer ur so old
+Its Spree He is joking -.-
+ediable So is +Its spree
The Led Zeppelin/Justin Bieber meme @10:58 is ripe with irony. In the song "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" the post chorus holds the record for the most times "baby" is said consecutively in a song. I've heard live versions where Robert Plant repeats "baby" consecutively for at least 20 seconds straight.
I'm glad you pointed that out!
Irrelevant. Zeppelin actually has talent. Bieber is nowhere near anything resembling talent.
@Papa Shanghoe its true though
@@briankerrigan3529 As much as I wish that were true, Zeppelin just got famous by ripping off lesser-known blues artists and the like. If plagiarism was talent, they'd sure be full of it. Hell, they're going to court relatively soon over plagiarizing "Stairway to Heaven" for being a ripoff of "Taurus" by a band called Spirit. And judging by this list ( www.thetoptens.com/led-zeppelin-songs-get-ripped-off/ ), they sure do seem to enjoy plagiarism.
@@LordVittaminn I can respect your response. That other guy is a pos, for sure. Never heard that about Zeppelin. That's sure disappointing.
@Papa Shanghoe Hey keyboard warrior, care to back up that shyt coming out your filthy weak hands? That's some weak game, freakin moron.
That 2025 prediction about the four turnings was spot on it seems
In my final exams in 2019 I wrote one of my engish essays about Juvenoia. I think it was only one of my paragraphs to explain my broader point. Thinking about it now, it might just be a lot of information from this video that stuck in my mind on the day. So hopefully my unintention plagarism can be written off as pationate imitation. Thanks for existing Michael
"This will be an era where society will band together, and build institutions from the ground up, in the face of crisis.
It's not yet clear what that crisis will be." - 2015
It's clear now. - 2019
what do you think it will be?
nice democracy vs authoritarianism. many countries are trending this way US is only the highest profile example. some may be forced into open conflict over control of the democratic institutions that authoritarians are working to weaken and hijack right now.
@@princssnasty I would say it's climate change that is the crisis.
@Zodiac Cosplay it's too late and too little and in the wrong places. Climate change can't be stopped now, unless unthinkable swathes of trees repopulate the stripped earth in a few years
@@megalith7796 ok guys, let's just shut team trees down since this man on the internet thinks its completely pointless and Every action is pointless. Did you know the hole in the ozone layer is shrinking? People have cleared beaches and sea turtles can now nest. It's not going to be perfect but your mentality of just giving up and dying on a barren rock sounds much better.
Remember the first ever fire?
Like if you're a bc kid
+JuggernautC1 ONLY REAL BC KIDS WILL REMEMBER THE RESURRECTION OF CHRIST
+BasedNeel Only BC Kids understand being enslaved by the Romans
+BasedNeel actually, the resurrection of Christ was in the very early AD's... Sorry bro
+JuggernautC1 Yeah im a bc kid, I have turbo BC!

Oh, fuck no...
"This 'crisis' will occur in 2025"
**Looks at global affairs**
**Looks at calendar**
Buckle up folks
Nah, man. Let's enjoy life for a while. It's gonna get way worse.
I’ll always regret saying back in 2019 that it was boring how nothing interesting was happening.
Get ready for Seers; In 2 years guys
Hiii
I just wanna know why this dude is locked in the bathroom from Saw
artcrime2999 it's spooky
Hahahaha!!
Bro, I was thinking that exact same thing.
"its not clear what that crisis will be"
well now it is
Gave me chills when it came to that part
"The crisis is predicted to come around 2025"
_A little late there Michael_
Interesting Username He actually said at 19:52, “if their theory has predictive power, the climax of that crisis will occur in 2025.”
I really hope the crisis doesn’t last that long though.
@@interestingusername6191 he's talking about the climax of the crisis

Pffft, Juvenoia these days...
I’ve been rewatching your videos and they age so well. The flow and often circular nature is so satisfying. I’m hopeful we are entering a period soon of coalescence
