What bothers me about this is that it made me conclude that the people that lead the system will never fix its flaws because, ultimately, it works in their favor. Even the smaller parties find it convenient. The biggest problem with democracy is that no matter what party gets elected, the public is still ruled by politicians. You can't trust politicians to rely on anything but their own interests, even if their intentions are great. A change in the system is too risky for a politician to make, unless they want to risk losing their seat.

But now I got some sort of empowerment with the lessons I learned from this video and hopefully one day I can get through that brick wall of opinions and change their minds. And obviously change mine as well. The very act of debating is very tiring and I see why many just try doing their own thing but isn’t it our human responsibility, our pride as a social species to debate and grow? @@suhaangames9454 with each day that passes I care less and less about politics, or more accurately arguing about it. I am entitled to my opinions and other people theirs, and there isn't any point in arguing about it because I'm a stubborn bastard who is unwilling to change because I believe I'm right. These days everyone wants to be a philosopher, everyone wants to be the Messiah who brings peace and love to the world because of their absolutely perfect opinions. But, for a moment, realise this is only on the internet. The other person may as well be a fucking ghost, or a cat, or a kitchen appliance, it doesn't really matter. They don't exist to you, so their opinion is immediately invalidated and irrelevant, only opinions from people you care about truly matter, you don't have to listen to everything they say, you are allowed to disagree with them, but your closer personal connection means you are less likely to get into a pointless heated argument with them than you are with a stranger online. Believe whatever the hell you want within reason. There are no right opinions. Instead of arguing on the internet with a stranger. Talk to a loved one about what their favourite movie, or game, or whatever, and learn something new about them. Because that is something infinitely more important than participating in fake arguments against fake people where all they know is virtue signalling and what they're told by a screen, you can know more, you can know more valuable things, because you are wiser. And wisdom always outweighs intelligence and knowledge.
I can relate to that, brother. In my case, i have been absence from debates for two reasons: 1- it is tiring and most of the time stressing 2- i am afraid i don't have qualified enough knowledge to form opinions about most of the debates i see, and i fear that joining them anyway would get me further from the truth, since i might be convinced of a wrong opinion I think the message michael passed stands, but i also think we should all try to do part of the reasoning process alone, seeking not confirmation, but arriving at new truths that we didn't know. With the knowledge of these new truths, it is intuitive to think our opinions would change (or be confirmed) in more nature way, consequentially letting us closer to the truth, but also it would probably make the debates a more stimulative, complex, greater, rewarding and cooler experience when they do happen. I truly think, based on my own personal experience and all my biases, that maybe the balance of your work as lone reasoner and your work as a social reasoner might be the key for arriving at a greater level of reasoning yourself.
I want to congratulate Michael on this incredible script: so dense and yet flows like poetry. This was the most profound video he has ever made and would be a genuine benefit to anyone who watches till the end.
i don't think it is the best (if only the "best" doesn't means "fresh"), but what you did said about poetry - that's what i found a yreat metaphor of what i perceive. )
Can I just say that I appreciate the subtitles so so much. When a RUclipsr just puts in that extra bit of effort to have well made subtitles for their videos it is amazing. As someone who is hard of hearing, they are so so nice to have. Thanks Michael! :)
It's too bad RUclips removed fan subtitles. They were abused, sure, but they should've given creators the ability to moderate and ban from using it and themselves moderate it. Anyways yeah, subtitles are great, even if you don't entirely need them. Sometimes I like having them on because it can be easier at times.

The only bad thing about Vsauce is that their videos are so thought provoking that I can't focus on what he's saying for more than 5 minutes because I get so involved in my line of thinking that I completely stop paying attention

I'm a masters graduate and Michael here is more clear, rational and wise than all my teachers combined since elementary. It is always such a pleasure learning science and concepts in this way. Love it! Please continue this Michael.
I was called out by my a person I considered my teacher, I've looked up to. ironically for being bad at trying to explain things to others. Maybe don't meet your heroes, someone said that, now I get it. But I liked explaining things, and I did it to understand things better as I learn, maybe I was being selfish for doing it like that, maybe I was causing confusion on others by being so bad at it. I felt so disincentivized that I dropped pursuing my masters, and academy .
You thank him by watching, thinking, applying concepts shown, and having engaging intelligent conversations. Instead everyone here is worried about being the next best meme.
Imagine a world where everyone thinks the same way, always agrees, and sees things from the same angle. Sounds peaceful, right? Not quite. This, in a nutshell, is the paradox of unanimity: sometimes, more agreement can actually mean less certainty. While we tend to trust decisions everyone supports, the truth is, the chances of everyone being truly independent and correct are surprisingly low. Why? Because we're human, and shared biases, groupthink, and even emotional contagion can easily sway everyone in the same direction, even if it's wrong. This doesn't mean every viewpoint needs to be extreme or completely different. But in ambiguous situations, where right and wrong aren't clear-cut, diversity of thought is crucial. It's like a puzzle: the more perspectives you have, the better chance you have of seeing the whole picture and finding the right solution. Here's the catch: blindly following the majority can be dangerous. Think about how easily rumors spread, even if they're untrue. In complex moral decisions, groupthink can lead to mass delusion, where everyone believes something is right simply because everyone else does. This can have serious consequences, hindering our ability to distinguish right from wrong and leading to harmful choices. So, the next time you encounter a situation where everyone seems to agree, remember the paradox of unanimity. Don't be afraid to ask questions, challenge assumptions, and see things from different angles. It might be uncomfortable, but it could also save us from making regrettable choices and pave the way for a more nuanced and just society.

Your Chanel is … it’s beautiful. It’s art, it’s science, it’s idiocy with interwoven intelligence, it’s …. So unique. Honestly this is a contribution to our society , this Chanel, and I hope to see it post again in the future, especially long videos.
I don’t mean idiocy as in dumbness, I mean it like quirky stupidity, interwoven into intelligently explained complex information to make it more digestible for younger audiences, or those without a more advanced understanding of thermodynamics. The beauty also lies in that for those who do have a more complex understanding, it dosent feel like your over simplifying it to the point it becomes basic.
This is the only channel my boomer dad will ever watch on RUclips. Any other channel I try to show him and he’ll say it isn’t his thing or he’s too old for it. But he likes, “the bald science guy.”

This man has such talent. He's so good at writing and organizing complex thoughts that most people tend to stumble over just the surface of; using perfect vocabulary choice and minute details. He keeps you enthused with his spontaneously odd style of presentation. He always has a conclusion that leaves you dwelling on the message's application in your own life. Vsauce is like a fatherly teacher that wants you to use his knowledge to develop your own ideal, and maybe even help shape your own reasoning. He never infers what you should think, but more so what you might think and why. He's not in it for the money, or the fame. He simply loves learning, and he wants us to join him in his ambition; A beautiful mind that wants to extend itself to others. Thank you, Vsauce for your time imbued content and effort. I'll be rewatching and decompiling this video for the next couple of months now in an attempt to digest its fullness.
I agree, he is excellent breaking down ideas, naming and challenging them. Symbolic labels give power over concepts. Once the concept is encapsulated into a word, it’s easier to refer back and build upon. Michael is excellent doing that.
Honestly this might be one of the most important videos I’ve ever seen. I think about this constantly even two years after it came out. It explains so much about the things I hear people say, and has changed the way I communicate for the better.
I love how Michael can talk about a concept that every knows but not many people truly understand the depth of. He then takes you there in ten minutes, makes you question everything you know and then in another ten he talks about why eggplants are called eggplants it’s our yearly free acid trip.
@@bobthesnowdog9972 well he made the point that reason originated as a bonding tool , not as an actual individual analisis , Wich might give us insight in bettering our reasoning abilities ...
Imagine all the literature the man had to read through and analyze, this is probably why the videos take longer now. The production and preparation is insane
You touched base on an issue which I feel has plagued not only my personal life, but my life as a content creator making EDU videos. Creating RUclips videos and doing so much research has ironically brought me to a position in my life where I feel like I know less than I ever have at any point. Even though I technically know more, I recognize more clearly than ever that there is much more out there that not only I don't know, but I don't know that I don't know. Information I can't access, information I can't understand. When I was younger, I had so much confidence in what I thought I knew and making videos was so easy. That said, the accuracy often took a hit, because what I didn't know almost existed in in a state of object permanence. I didn't know about it, I didn't think it could exist... As I've gotten older the level of research I need to do before I feel confident in what I say in the videos I produce has increased to an almost unhealthy level to a point where I can't even make videos... That could be both in the context of simply getting things wrong, too having an incomplete understanding and subsequently explanation of something. Introducing people to topics in a poor manner. Though I think it's important to know as much as you can about subjects you want to talk about, but I think there is also can be a point where you may recognize that you know so little about things as they exists in their totality that you completely lose your confidence to talk about it all together. Is that wisdom? I don't know, Plato* talks about Socrates allegedly being told that he was said to be the wisest of all the Greeks because he alone knew that he knows nothing. I understand that, but how do you tell how much of something you need to know before you really know it? How can you feel confident that you know anything?
This is why I usually avoid offering my opinion on many topics because I feel that I don’t have sufficient knowledge regardless of how much I know compared to other people. Is that insecurity? Your point is something I also relate to on a daily basis
"we are a species of individuals that is also one big interdependent lumbering growth, a frantic blur of flesh and concrete, a technosapien powered by imaginations and passions made real by a hallowed faculty we call: reason." this summation is truly poetic

When Michael was talking about how you reach the conclusion that someone is upset it made me think about how autism affects your ability to reason. I know someone is upset because I’ve memorised how their faces move when they are upset. I know a frown means someone’s sad, I know crying is a sign someone’s hurt, I know that furrowed brows mean someone’s angry and I know a smile means someone’s happy. I don’t know much more than that. If I put conscious effort into learning a specific persons face (like for example, my baby sisters) I can usually start to figure out more complex emotions, but that’s not always accurate and people also don’t always know how they feel. For example, my baby sister might make a face that I know from asking her in the past and memorising the expression means she’s upset, but when I ask her now she will insist that she isn’t because she believes she isn’t (and maybe she really isn’t). Humans are so complicated!

Because that is something infinitely more important than participating in fake arguments against fake people where all they know is virtue signalling and what they're told by a screen, you can know more, you can know more valuable things, because you are wiser. And wisdom always outweighs intelligence and knowledge.
I can relate to that, brother.
In my case, i have been absence from debates for two reasons:
1- it is tiring and most of the time stressing
2- i am afraid i don't have qualified enough knowledge to form opinions about most of the debates i see, and i fear that joining them anyway would get me further from the truth, since i might be convinced of a wrong opinion
I think the message michael passed stands, but i also think we should all try to do part of the reasoning process alone, seeking not confirmation, but arriving at new truths that we didn't know.
Remember that you are not alone
We only really do it when we're forced to. Like a jury which can't leave unless they agree.
I want to congratulate Michael on this incredible script: so dense and yet flows like poetry. This was the most profound video he has ever made and would be a genuine benefit to anyone who watches till the end.

It's really wholesome and genuine :)

Everyone talks about how little he uploads, but not much talk about all the effort that go into his videos
Or is he?
He actually just does a 5 minute google research, sits infront of a camera and just freestyles for 30minutes.
Hello verified youtuber
Dang. That's deep
You've just experienced the first step in wisdom. It is knowing thyself. Maybe not wisdom in and of itself, but a good step.
I am confident in my beliefs!Oh, wait....well, now I’m sad...

Vsauce talks in a very easy-to-understand manner. He puts pressure on words that require it, pronounces every word and letter properly, interacts with his audience by asking questions and showing images, making jokes. Michael also picks the most interesting topics and I love him for this
How do you say Bill Gates in your language?
@@bobthesnowdog9972 shut up. Shut up. Just shut up. SHUT UP!
@@Polska_Edits ??? why so mad?
Had me until the Bill Gates book endorsement. It would take a lot to convince me that man truly cares about the climate.
The fact that this video starts on climate change and goes through all kinds of social aspects of humanity without mentioning capitalism (or economics, or modes of production) even _once_ is truly an ode to liberalism.
I think he might actually, but because he feels guilty about being at the top of uneven wealth distribution, even though he worked to get there.
By releasing just one or two videos a year made Michaels exclusivity and rank level 9999999
A real upload o.o
Yo hello
@Moondoes Manufacturing exactly what I was thinking... even before he mentioned gates I could tell something was off
Good morning fellow mathematician
@Moondoes Manufacturing what?
@Moondoes Manufacturing What?
Ludopsychohyperchronoentropia - the distance in time between two consecutive Vsauce videos
As a Greek I can read the entire word. Λυδο - Ψυχο - Υπερ - Χρονο - Εντροπία. It doesn't make sense. Hey, you can't fool me! It doesn't mean the distance in time blah blah.
Nice 😂
lol it actually has a urbandictionary definition!
@@nikolaosmark5812me being an idiot I can also read that :D
Long smart word
I like that the scripts of these videos come out like a single stream of consciousness, like Michael was just sitting on a couch one day, writing down every thought that came to him as it came to him.
I don’t feel an existential crisis this time.
In fact, this talk is oddly comforting.
Reasoning alone can produce an existential crisis. But reasoning with others... that is marvelous!
Comforting is still a word I'd rather do without, unfortunately. For me this video is both sad and beautiful. Can't deny the stupid sadness in all of this, we are soon to be forgotten ancients.
Indeed :)
@@zorgius I don't think so. I think we are at a defining tipping point in our history, and I think this tipping point is different ones in the past. We are at a point in scientific progress where biological *immortality* is a goal we can actually take seriously. Just a few days ago there was a breakthrough in gene therapy that allows us to modify genes in already living organisms. I believe that we will soon be ancient, but we are far from our works being forgotten.

I'd say my fear is greed will destroy what innovation built before it can outbuild itself. That the abuse of our techniques and tools will smother us before we build the tools to avoid smothering. We CAN become immortal, in theory. But the self obsessed have fashioned a culture that rewards self obsession, in just the right ways to make you not their problem, such that they can roll up the entire rainforest and smoke it in peace. They've done very well for themselves in securing that stranglehold. And any action, good or evil, that contests their grip, is frequently removed by it. What they say goes, more or less. And they don't seem all that concerned with us living long enough to vanquish death. Not if it gets in the way of their 7th yacht.
Vsauce's background music has been so insanely great it's unbelievable! They fit the context so perfectly...

fr!
a lot of his stuff from his earlier videos was composed by Jake chudnow, crazy stuff. however alot of it I can’t seem to find on Spotify/Apple music, only on RUclips
@@josepholsson6598 its because most of his stuff is only available on royalty free music services. He does a great job and is one of the more successful composers in the industry
Jake Chudnow, phenomenal work.

I don't know about others but they will definitely recreate Michael in the future.
After seeing this video, heck yeah!
yeah
No thanks we don’t need Hydra happening in real life.
*gets reanimated* "hey, michael here"
In the future they will set deep learning AI to learn to replicate the speech patterns of Michael and we will get something truly glorious/hilarious out of it. Beyond that I don't really know tho...
This video taught me what I already thought: Confirmation Bias has and always will exist
confirmation bias paradox
Hahahaha, I see what you did there
You’re a gift to the world, Michael.

Nice, I was due another existential crisis right about now

Literally 99% won’t see this but I lost my job due to covid. They shut down all the restaurants in Cook county which then led me to loosing my apartment. I'm currently living out of my car which I try and make the best of. I've applied to a bunch of places I'm hoping to get a call back. if anyone could help me with whatever you could bc I'm needing stuff like hand warmers which I stuff my clothes at night when it's cold. Also cheap burgers/fastfood. I know times are tough for everyone these days but if you're able to help me I have paypal
