- HIP HOP Fan REACTS To Olivia Newton-John - Xanadu Olivia Newton John REACTION
ONJ PLAYLIST: • ONJ
"Xanadu" is the title song from the soundtrack to the 1980 film Xanadu. The song is performed by English-born Australian singer Olivia Newton-John and the English rock band Electric Light Orchestra (ELO). Newton-John sings the primary vocals, with ELO lead singer and the song's writer Jeff Lynne adding parenthetic vocals in the style of their other songs on the Xanadu soundtrack, along with ELO providing the instrumentation.

I suggest A little more love. Awesome guitars and harmony. Would you please, in case you react, look for an HQ Video stage video, in which Olivia and musicians performs with a kind of play back? It is the best video. There's also a studio video, in which she makes use of headphones...
Check out the duet with Andy Gibb
You can check Olivia Newton John, Andy Gibb and ABBA on a TV special in RUclips. Fantastic, a lot of great music (and a lot of 70s blonde hair) XD
This was a Scene from the 80`s Classic "Xanadu"...In which,The Modern-Day Zeus Decides to send out his "Muses",to help mortals... ONJ,The singer you see,Plays "Kira",The Blonde Beauty Muse....This was the Last Scene of the movie, and This was her Goodbye to her Mortal True love Sunny, Before she had to leave,For Olympus..So she Helps Sunny Open up,and make Popular,The Dance Club/Adult Bar known as Xanadu,Which was named after a Near Paradisical Area In China,A Home to Kublai Khan, and a China-Based City,too.. The Back-up Vocalists you hear are Member of the Late 70s,Early Eighties Group Known as ELO,WHICH HELPED ONJ Create the soundtrack for the movie, and the Album. Oh,the females that you see come out, that`re dancing with the guys, Are Kira`s Sister Muses, to help her set up this Performance.. They will not show that in the end of the performance, The Sister Muses,And Kira Left is a Streak of Bright color,to head to Olympus,With Kira Blowing Sunny a kiss Goodbye,Before Shooting off herself...When I saw the scene,I cried for them both..Because they will NEVER be together,@ Zeus`s Orders,Because He felt Mortals and Goddess-like muses Should never be together..It REALLY broke my heart!
They look like movie scenes..because they are! lol. They didn't have music videos then! Music videos didn't come about until a bit later in the 80's! Olivia was a singer & an actress! Mainly a singer though
For me Olivia Newton-John is the best singer in the world! I absolutely adore her voice 😍
She has been my idol since I was 5
Rip to Olivia! Your reaction is lovely! She is definitely a crush worthy woman! Beautiful inside and out.
Olivia was a singer first.
Also she sang the background in “Fly away” by John Denver. Love her in everything since “Let me Be there”.so many great songs!💕
Xanadu was a meh movie, but the soundtrack is top drawer. This version is best. Olivia Newton John with ELO is incredible. This is from the movie Xanadu. It is worth watching for Gene Kelly.
ONJ is a singer first and foremost. She started as a teenager in Australia, singing in a local coffee house, and when she was 15 years old, she won a national talent contest (like an early Australian version of American Idol), and the prize was a trip to London. She stayed in Australia for another year, singing and doing skits on local television, until her mom dragged her to London (to separate her from her boyfriend, whom mom thought was getting too serious). Her career started taking off in England, and she eventually became a semi-regular on Cliff Richard's variety show. Her breakthrough hit in the U.S. was a cover of Bob Dylan's If Not For You in 1971, and in 1973 she really made her mark on the Country scene with Top 10 hits Let Me Be There (for which she won the Grammy and Country Music Association awards for Best Female Vocalist), and If You Love Me Let Me Know. She scored consecutive #1 hits with I Honestly Love You, and Have You Never Been Mellow. She then wallowed for a few years in a sea of mediocre Adult Contemporary songs until Grease in 1978, which sent her career into the stratosphere. Grease and Xanadu are her two best known films, and through the years she has appeared in other films and TV movies, but she is always a singer first, breast cancer and environmental activists second, and an actress third. She was awarded Damehood by Queen Elizabeth ll in early 2020 (she was born in England, and her family moved to Australia when she was five years old). She is a Pop music legend and icon, who gets overlooked a lot, so it is alway nice to see her get some love!
She was born in The UK, my dad was her personal security in the early years touring The UK. Let's not get carried away with the "Australian" thing.
@@danfrost3043 Yes, born in Cambridge, moved to Oz when she was 5 years old (I mentioned her UK birth in my original post, btw). She is an Australian citizen, and calls Australia her heart home. SHE considers herself first and foremost Australian. She is proud of her English roots, and is delighted to be Dame Olivia Newton-John, but Australia is #1 in her heart, and she is #1 in theirs.
@@danfrost3043 Olivia does not identify as British and still calls Australia home.
She's super charming. There's a video in which you can see her, Abba and Andy Gibb singing together.
The special TV show "Olivia" (1978)
Used to be a big ONJ fan as a kid after seeing her in GREASE with John Travolta. So many great songs ... country/pop ballads and beyond. Try "A Little More Love" or her cover of Steve Winwood's "Gimme Some Lovin'" next!
A Little More Love is probably my favorite
She was a 29 year old musical superstar with many Grammy’s when she made her first movie, Grease. The legend made a legendary film that was a musical & had hit after hit that are still as great today. Hopelessly Devoted to You was one of several songs added to the original Broadway score. It was specifically for Olivia and was nominated for an Oscar.
Olivia did 2 duets with Andy Gibb "I Cant Help It' - 1980 and "Rest Your Love On Me" - 1981. Michael Beck was popular at the time having just done "The Warriors"
Beautiful songs!
Yessss. I love a person who loves ONJ as I have since I was four. She’s amazing and such a lovely person. I’m glad you’re listening and reacting to her!
She started in the early 70s singing country and her initial big hits were “If Not For You”, Please Mr. Please” and “I Honestly Love You”. Then came the movie musicals “Xanadu” and “Grease”. And her dance/video hit “Let’s Get Physical”.
This is an ELO-Olivia collab or, if you will, an ELO song with Olivia on guest vocals. Other super catchy ELO songs from the same movie: I'm Alive and All Over The World.
I’m getting to know ELO. This is such a great band.
@@emaildalaura Yes, been a listener, appreciator and fan of the genius that is Jeff Lynne and E.L.O for 45 years now and still going strong. Enjoy 👍😊
Yes, "I'm Alive" and "All Over the World" are superb as is the entire Xanadu soundtrack. Jeff Lynne... Thank you for the music Sir 👍😊
I have this movie on DVD. I love this movie!!!! RIP Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly!!!
I loved Xanadu from Olivia. She was also in the musical film Grease which was excellent. She sang 'You're the one that I want' in this particular song in the film with John Travolta. I'm sure you'd love it!! Xx
ONJ has a great voice. One of my favorite singers. Check out A Little More Love and Twist Of Fate from her. Both are great songs.
Grease is my favorite movie of all time. Olivia Newton John is so young, fresh, and beautiful here!! Love her!!!
OLIVIA'S song called SAM is the one you wanna hear.....I don't know why nobody ever mentions it she said it's one of her favorite and for sure one of the best vocals.
Love that song
Also the song "Don't Stop Believin' which is off the same album as Sam, also called Don't Stop Believin'
The live version of Sam from the Physical Concert is one of her best performances.
Sam is my absolute favourite song of hers.
Love her voice ❤!
To answer your question "who is she" she is a singer who had fifteen top 10 singles in America five of which went to number 1...so she was a big deal in the 70's and early 80's. she also did a few films, Xanadu was one of them..she was originally a country singer who moved into pop later in her career.
Its Xan-A-doo like xanax.
This is an ELO song really, with Olivia starring on vocals as she could dazzle x
The guy at the beginning with the flashing Xanadu sign is Gene Kelly..... a great dancer/actor of the golden age.
The movie Xanadu itself was just ok, loved the soundtrack and also had starring in it Gene Kelly was probably also 1 of his last movie appearances I think! He was a very famous dancer/entertainer! And I’m also sure that was the look of the guy in the movie they were going for at the time! Lol
You really need to watch the full sequence for this song from the movie - it's fabulous !
she has won more music awards than anyone. country and pop
It is from the movie “Xanadu”! That’s why it looks like a movie…this is an excerpt from the movie! ONJ was a singer who starred in two musicals; Grease and Xanadu!
Three, actually. Her first musical film was Toomorrow, a really campy sci-fi movie from 1970. Bits of it can sometimes be found on RUclips, but it's really rare.
I love Olivia and her movie Xanadu💝😍
She did a cover of Eric Carmen’s Boats Against the Current that is beautiful.
One of my favorite ballads of hers. Absolutely gorgeous!
Best version is Olivia's!
It is a movie. The musical "Xanadu". ELO..Jeff Lynne wrote/co produced soundtrack
Yes, and the other half was written and produced by John Farrar, Olivia's longtime songwriter and record producer.
Check out "Hopelessly Devoted to You" and "Sam"
This is the biggest hit version of this song, it's actually ELO featuring Olivia Newton John, you can hear Geoff Lynne's vocals, it is from a film
She was already extremely popular for her music before she started working in movies. She was more known for country music but after Grease her music turned more pop rock oriented. Look up her discography on Wikipedia and it will show how extensive of a hits collection she had. Olivia was the best of the best for sure.
She was more of a singer. She has a huge catalog and many albums. Her voice is amazing.
SHE STARTED AS SINGER....COUNTRY SINGER AT 1ST, THEN SHE EVOLVED. HER 1ST TRUE FILM WAS GREASE THEN SHE GOT ADDITIONAL ROLES🥰🥰
The word Xanadu comes from a poem by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, called "Kubla Khan" written in 1797...
"In Xanadu did Kubla Khan
A stately pleasure-dome decree:
Where Alph, the sacred river, ran
Through caverns measureless to man
Down to a sunless sea."
Xanadu itself is a dream made real, and that's what the movie 'Xanadu' was about. Olivia is first and foremost a singer. Her acting career has one of the biggest hits of the big screen, and one of the biggest flops of all time. She has only ever made a handful of movies, while she is still writing songs, producing albums, and performing...even through a few go-arounds with breast cancer.
Great reaction! I LOVE the reset! Well played sir. Well played 👌🏽
This woman gets you hooked
Olivia and the genius that is Jeff Lynne and E.L.O....a match made in heaven. Superb reaction Sir. Thank you 👍😊
Did you know Olivia Newton John was one of Karen Carpenter's best friends? Just thought I would ask. Love your channel by the way. All the way from Yorkshire, England ...
Did not know that thanks
I was going into my teens when Olivia LET'S GET PHYSICAL VIDEO came out. Lord have mercy ❤️
She is an Icon!
dang yo... Olivia Newton John back in the day... complete package... singer, actress, honey... Michael Beck the actor in Xanadu is the lead in The Warriors...a street gang movie from the 70's. Look up her ballad from Xanadu, "Suspended in Time"....that song and video can melt ice.
This is from the movie Xanadu with Gene Kelly
Olivia "Let's get Physical" and "Suddenly" (duet) awesome ❤️❤️
This has been my favorite movie since I was 5. And she is my idol. I love her
That young guy that you saw wasn't Andy Gibb. It was Michael Beck. He was born in 1949.
He did look like Andy Gibb ..he also starred in "The Warriors"
You should check out OLJ duet suddenly with cliff richard
You should get into ELO. (Electric Light Orchestra) Jeff Lynne wrote some of the songs on the Xanadu sound track. They give Xanadu that ethereal, sparkly rainbow sound. Late seventies early eighties were their heyday.
Hello again, I'm glad to see You react to Olivia Newton John, one of best female voices in rock pop músic
(behind Karen Carpenters and the 'A' of ABBA, Agnetha & A Frid)
"Xanadú" is a fantastic song
with Elechtric Lighty Orchesta
it's amazing combination
This song is the 'leí motiv' of the musical movie "Xanadú" (1980), Olivia is performing the protagónic female rol
She did another protagónic the year after, in the famous movie "Grease" (1978) with John Travolta as co-protagonic couple
And was a worldwide success
from 'Grease' movie are three specialy greatest songs:
Hoplesly devoted to You
Summer Nights
You're the one that I want
(the last two singing by
John Travolta & Olivia Newton John)
I suggest to react these three songs, specialy in the scenes of the movie
It's biggest worldwide hits in 1978
(the movie Grease it's icónic)
another good to see and react is the TV special in 1978 "Olivia", with the Guess stars Andy Gibb & ABBA
Summer Nigts
with Olivia & Travolta in leads voice
at the movie Grease
is so amazing and beautifull
Grease came before Xanadu. Your parenthetical dates are correct but then you said that Grease came a year after when, in fact, Grease came out two years BEFORE Xanadu. The box office success of Grease is the reason why film executives were looking for additional starring vehicles for her. If only they'd taken the time to develop a GOOD script.
@@Pixelologist
Yes, it was a Word wrong
but all the rest is ok,
I put the years clearly:
Grease 1978 & Xanadú 1980
in fact, I see this two movies in the cinema at the same years in my country (I'm 63 years)
She's never looked better than here. ♥
Singer since the 70's
Xanadu is a movie and to get the full effect, you should see the finale - this is just the beginning
It was a Box Office Flop but it's successful on Broadway in a Musical. It also is next to ABBA, Little House On The Prairie, a guilty pleasure. The Album went to #2 on The Album Chart and Magic was her Fourth Number One, other hits were "I'm Alive, Xanadu, and Suddenly that she did with her former Mentor Cliff Richard. He is a "Sir" and she's a "Dame".
1) Olivia Newton John is the most beautiful woman ever.
2) the male protagonist of Xanadu is the lead from The Warriors, which is awesome.
Since I as 5/6yrs old she Has Always Been My Crush ❤️ God Love Her❤
This is actually a scene from the movie Xanadu. It is a really good movie.
back in the early 80's - crossed fingers was the Xanadu sign :)
Has the great English band ELO who helped write, play, and do backing vocals for the track. ELO were from Birmingham just like Black Sabbath and Ozzy! A great band to react to if you haven't already!
How could you leave out, The Moody Blues, the first great Brummie band to make it in America?
Help? ELO (with Jeff Lynne) fully wrote, sang background, played all instruments and produced the song. Olivia came in and sang lead.
Starred her!
The video you're watching is from the movie Xanadu that she was in along with an old actor Gene Kelly it's a beautiful movie. The young man with her is not Andy Gibb but he is in an old movie called The Warriors.
one vey amazing voice
Told you she goes high, but she doesn't get shrill like, well, turn on any voice-competition show on TV if you like shrill screaming. She stays soft and hits the notes. Keep 'em coming; I'm remembering why I was (and still am) crushing on this gorgeous artist.
This was from a movie ,XANADU. Move .. musical... With ELO.
"Xanadu" was written by Jeff Lynne of ELO (Electric Light Orchestra}, who also had a catchy pop song "I'm Alive" in the Xanadu movie. This a video of her recording "A LIttle More Love," another very catchy 1979 pop song, with ONJ at her irresistible best! www.dailymotion.com/video/xgmoj
Great!
Michael Beck Actor best known for his roles as Swan in The Warriors. (A turf battle between New York City street gangs that rages from Coney Island to the Bronx) Warriors fight their way back to their home turf after being falsely blamed for a rival gang leader's death. Every other gang is hunting them down on the way.
Me upon seeing video title: "YAYYYYY!"
Me upon seeing old Olivia: "BOOOOO!"
Me upon seeing hot Olivia: "YAYYYYY!"
ONJ has a great voice and is a SINGER!!!! She started as a singer and did alot of TV because of her ability to sing and entertain, plus her enormous charisma and camera presence. All of these qualities led to alot of TV appearances and movies (Grease and Xanadu). But she is primarily a SINGER. Before Grease, she already had 8 studio albums, 3 Grammy awards, numerous AMA, CMA and Billboard awards. 😀 Please react to "Sam" live from 1982 concert.
The movie is worth watching for shits n giggles but the musical scenes are good because the music is good. This is my #1 favorite childhood movie.
you can see Olivia Newton John at the classic Eurovision in UK 1974, performing "Long live love"
also She is born in Australia, she was here for UK and finally at four place,
in the night that ABBA knock all Europe (and much more):
ruclips.net/video/xiehO5aUVsw/видео.html
She was actually born in the UK (Cambridge), and her family emigrated to Australia when she was 5 years old.
… every girl including me wanted to be her, and every boy fell in love with her. …
may she Rest In Peace. 💔
You’re right!! I wanted to be Kira!🥹
OMG so glad you switched to the original
This is pretty much a clip from the movie Xanadu. No that's not Andy Gibb, that's her co-star in the movie, Michael Beck. He was a guy down on his luck but wanting to open a roller disco, and she played one of the nine Greek Muses who comes to life and helps him realize his dream. But yeah, he did look like Any Gibb! Sorry, as I type this I realize you got this info. she was mainly a singer, but also did some movies as well.
She was in the movie. Yes. She plays a Greek muse. Yes she was a country singer pop star and movie star.
A very fun time to be a teenager
You should look at part 2
Fun fact, alteration of Shang-tu, the name of an ancient city in what is now the Inner Mongolia region of China, as portrayed in Coleridge's poem Kubla Khan (1816)
'Banks Of The Ohio' from 1971 is 1 you may like. It's a 19th-century murder ballad, written by unknown authors, in which "Willie" invites his young lover for a walk during which she rejects his marriage proposal. Once they are alone on the river bank, he murders the young woman. Olivia was 23 years old and it was her 3rd single release.
Dude! You are some kind of 70s/early 80s pop culture expert if you can instantly recognize Andy Gibb in a video Haha! You're awesome 😎
It was Michael Beck, actor who played, "Sonny" in Xanadu, her love interest and who she suppose to give inspiration to open the club named Xanadu
Hopelessly Devoted to you from the movie Grease
She stared in the movie, snd sang the sound track.
Originally a singer
Lol I laughed so hard when you asked if that was Andy Gibb !! Live Andy Gibb and I love Olivia!! You need to what the movie Xanadu!! One of the best movies ever!! To answer your question it’s not Andy but they have done songs together…
It does look like Any and Gene Kelly the older guy is one of my favorites and and an amazing dancer!!
Everyone loves Olivia Newton John: men and women, young and old, gay and straight. RIP Angel
Michael Beck is Swan from The Warriors
It was a movie, with Gene Kelly
This was a movie! Xanadu, and yes that’s Andy Gibb.
Gene Kelly was also in this movie! She was a singer, turned actress

No it’s not, it is Michael Beck.
The guy is NOT Andy Gibb, it’s Michael Beck her co-star in the movie.
No that's not Andy Gibb, that's Michael beck.. it's from the movie Xanadu which is a mystical romance.. the movie didn't do great at the box office but it has a cult following.. for me it's one of my favourite livvy movies..
Yes this is the ending sequence of Xanadu..
She's an actress & singer but she's so much more..
She passed away on 8th August as she had been battling cancer (3 times) since 1992.. may she RIP 💔😭😭😢😢 She was my idol💔😭😢
Get in line! I'm 43 years ahead of you, so it might be a while...
Check out the Grease Movie with Olivia and John Travolta - "You're the one I want!"
Not Andy he was dead at this time. It is a movie- Xanadu -it was a flop but has a cult following. Gene Kelly is in the movie!!! You go you little Texan! I’m from San Angelo!😘 I love watchin y’all’s reactions -thanks for doing this!!
really should've done the original studio version
oops. clicked off too soon. sorry
The guy was Michael Beck. This was a movie, not a video.
Her roots go back to country music. "I honestly love you" and "Let me be there" for examples. Pretty sure so don't attack. Lol
Probably further but that's what I remember growing up
And the most absurdly 70s song ever: "Have you ever been mellow."
@@lipby that song went to #1 and is an enduring classic.

"This literally look's like a movie scene" that's because Ermm, It IS a movie scene from a movie called "Xanadu"
The movie Itself was a huge flop but the soundtrack was very successful, her collaboration with ELO (a hugely successful band worldwide) was genius and yes, that was Andy Gibb.
