  • Many manufacturers offered hopper cars in the years before the war. Most but not all used cast metal construction. Hoppers are also one of the more commonly found scratch-built cars, as their flat-panel and straight-edge design lends itself to construction without forms or other investment tooling. This video shows a representative string of many of the hoppers offered before the war along with a few scratch-builds as well.

    Great Video, these prewar hoppers as good if not better than most made today and they stood the test of time. All done without computers or scanners. A real testimony to the quality and sheer craftsmanship of those who paved the way in our beloved hobby. Keep the videos coming!!!!

    Question from an HO guy who wants to get into O but absolutely HATES the unrealistic look of 3 rail; is 2 rail easier than 3 rail to mess with? Thanks for getting back if you do.
