  • Charlie Morrill lives in Texas but models the Southern Pacific in Oregon. He is a master all-around modeler, as the video shows. His layout is well-planned and executed. Operation is smooth and reliable and trains roll hand-laid track. All locomotives are DCC and sound equipped. Much of the equipment is either scratch-built, kit-bashed, or detailed and modified as necessary to match the prototype. All equipment is well finished, with just the right amount of weathering. And, to boot, the layout features a working block and interlocking signal system. Charlie built the semaphores himself. Check it out!

This level of commitment isn't found everywhere! I sure hope the kids in Charlie's family are of the careful type!

    Damn that's a nice locomotive!

You may want to consider double decking this layout. A fine example of that would be Jim Providenza s Santa Cruz Northern railroad. While he is H O scale the concept works for any railroad scale.

Is this layout P48? This is a Railroad in miniture not a model one! At last, a dcc sound steam locomotive with the chuff coming from the stack and not the tender! Fantastic!

Charlie, have you published anything as to the construction of your semaphore signals? I'm interested in semaphore control techniques adaptable to a signal bridge.
    Beautiful work.

Charlie wrote a two-part how-to on his semaphores signals in O Scale Trains magazine, issues 84 and 85.
