How to clean Honda Prelude IACV - idle air control valve (H22)

  • In this video I clean the Idle Air Control Valve(IACV) on the Honda Prelude. After having a rough idle and the IACV getting stuck closed I decided to clean it. This is relatively simple to do as you just need to remove two bolts and two hoses connected to the valve itself. After you remove it you just need to unscrew three phillips head screws to open one side of the valve and the other side just has two ports with one containing a small metal screen. You just need to spray the ports with Carb cleaner and remove the deposits with a paper towel. Make sure not to get any liquid inside the sensor itself. Hope you enjoy.

Happy to help you solve your idle problem, save you money and save you time. Thanks for the video. Unfortunately my 2.2L 1997 Prelude's IACV doesn't look anything like the IACV in this video. In fact I can't even track down a replacement IACV for my Prelude. I just had the engine rebuilt and it runs great except the idle which is rough and jumpy. Could be TPS or O2 sensors, but more likely the IACV. Getting a little freaked out by the fact that I can't find a replacement or locate a mechanic to clean my particular IACV.

    • @automotiveobsession7265
      @automotiveobsession7265  2 месяца назад

      They don't make replacement IACV for the 97,98,99,2000,2001 prelude's anymore. I got lucky I made this video when they were still available because I had another issue with the car and it's idle and I believed it was IACV and had to buy used one's because there were no new replacements. Later I found out it was not the IACV but even used they are getting very expensive. I wish you luck trying to fix the IACV for your car so you can enjoy your new engine build. If I can find anything that can help I'll comment it here.

    What year is this prelude? I'm getting a 1990 prelude 4ws in mint shape 1 owner always garaged and never driven in winter. Only issue is this iacv issue with the idling up and down. Curious if that's the same valve in mine is all in case I needed to buy a new one or new seals. My 94 accord coupe does the same thing as well but I've just dealt with it as its intermittent. Great video! 👍

      Thanks. This is a 2000 honda prelude. Congrats on buying a nice example of the honda prelude. I don't think the IAVC will be interchangeable because the 1990 honda prelude has a 2.0 L engine while the 2000 honda prelude has a 2.2 L engine, these engines are different. Also not sure if the mounting bolts will line up.

    Is it normal for no coolant to spew out of the IACV tube?

    • @automotiveobsession7265
      @automotiveobsession7265  2 года назад

      No. The coolant should run through the IACV lines to help the valve work properly by raising the idle when the engine is cold and lowering it when the engine is warm. This is done by IACV when it measures the temperature of the coolant. The coolant should not just spew out of the tube.

    • @automotiveobsession7265
      @automotiveobsession7265  5 месяцев назад

      It's not necessary. After I cleaned mine I just put it back together and the car ran fine. It's good to also clean the fast idle valve to further clean the system and do more preventative maintenance.

    • @automotiveobsession7265
      @automotiveobsession7265  Год назад

      It's happened to me sometimes and other times it has not spilled anything. I would say just to be ready for it but usually it's not much that it spills. If you do this right after having the car running then the chances are greater for a spill.

    Hey bro when I replace the iacv would it be best to bleed it from the radiator or the little screw? And how long do I need it bleed it for? I'm afraid the bubbles would be so small I might miss it and not know when it's good to go 😅. Thanks for your help bro! 😊

    • @automotiveobsession7265

      I usually bleed the entire system. From what I remember the manual says to bleed the system until you see and hear the radiator fans come on. This should take about 15 minutes. If you have a radiator funnel kit it should help with bleeding in general and you can the bubbles more clearly. This is what I do when I bleed the system for any reason.

      @@sawsinit544 It turned out that i had a vaccum leak from my manifold gasket. The guy my dad had got to clean the ports didnt scrape off all of the old gasket so it didnt settle good and made the car surge. I would reccomend first cleaning your IACV, then cleaning/ tighening your FITV. If those two doesnt work then you need to check your vaccum lines and spray around the areas where gaskets sit.
