  • Happy (early) Valentine's Day! I'm attempting to crack the Hallmark movie formula and create my own by using ~the wheel of love~! I hope y'all enjoy this challenge that none of y'all asked for bahaha. 💕
☟↓ QUESTIONS FOR YOU BELOOOOOW! ↓☟
    D I S C U S S I O N Q U E S T I O N S :
Did I miss anything as part of the basic Hallmark movie formula?
Would you watch my movie? Bahaha.
Would you try this sort of wheel generator for your stories? OOOR what do you think would need to be included in other genres (not romance)?
Do you have a favorite romance novel or movie? What is it? Do you have any fun plans for Valentine's Day?

I love this so much! When I went to film school, actual advice we got was, if you were struggling to get a gig and needed to turn something out fast, was to write a Hallmark, or some other Made-For-TV Movie, because they're so formulaic. As soon as you talked about how Hallmark often does male/female stereotypes, I thought it would be neat if they're each doing a more "man/woman" job because their spouse died. Like, it was his wife's flower shop, and the OG Santa passed away a few Christmases ago, so Mrs. Santa took on the task. Could be a cool bonding thing, too. This is such a fun exercise, even just to get your creativity going, if you're not looking to sell a Hallmark Movie. I really like what you did with your version!

Also petition for a spin off featuring the elf friend and the hotel worker because that sounded cute as heck!!!
And the florists role somehow merging into a gardener but it's like 'eh Hallmark doesn't care' is brilliant!!! I would totally watch this movie!! Hallmark needs to hire you, then you can infiltrate from within and start improving their storytelling even faster!!!

Hi, Kate! This is my first time watching one of your videos. This is hilarious! I love everything about this - the wheel of love, how you know the timing down to the minute of all the plot turns, and your delivery. I hate Hallmark, Christmas and love (well, romance, at least), but thanks to you I'm going to challenge myself to write the anti-Hallmark-Christmas-romance idea that's been floating around in my head for some time now. Thank you for this fun post!

Also, Santa took over the job from her dad, and every Santa has to have a mate. What if Santa ran off to Mexico to avoid an arranged marriage to another man. He'll show up in Mexico and be a perfect match for the florist's ex-wife. I love this video and laughed so hard during it. Happy writing.

  • @bethcox3226

I love your wheel and how it SO WORKED to create the bones of your Hallmark story.
Have you ever seen the "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" series and movies. They are not conventional Hallmark characters, and the love does not come to full bloom in 2 hours. In fact, it takes YEARS for the relationship to truly develop, and of course there are all kinds of bumps along the way. But I so dig how quirky the 4 main characters are, how they support one another and how their relationships seem so much more realistic, since they develop so slowly. If you haven't seen them, check them out. Hallmark recently had a marathon with the series and a final, culminating movie. (Although, I have to admit they find some way to come back and make one more movie!!)

  • @Alithebooklover
    @Alithebooklover 4 года назад +1

I really enjoyed that! It does make for a great story. You should write it out and find a way to send it to them. I love Hallmark movies. But, I honestly get bored of the same old things, I would love to see more to their movies! Have at least one movie where the characters don’t fall in love, but become great friends. Amazing story and thank you for sharing!

To be perfectly honest, I don't like Hallmark movies, but most mainstream movies have a formula. They play with it a bit, but they are pretty much all the same formula. This could actually be a fun way to come up with a short story sort of thing which I guess is actually very similar to shows/tv movies. At the very least, it would be a fun way to generate ideas. I'd probably watch a Hallmark movie if you wrote it. Yours sounds more interesting than most of them even following their formula. I might have to try this for high fantasy. Might take some planning just because I can't throw together a plot/story nearly as quickly but it could definitely be fun.

It was a riot and I loved it! But - the relevant point now - I started by writing all the Christmas movie tropes and had a great time doing it. You should definitely write this! P.S Is Santa magic not powerful enough for the florist to commute to work part time from the North Pole? I gave up on Riverdale half way thru season 3 too. I couldn’t take it anymore. It was just too much and yet not enough.
Also that sounds like a perfect Hallmark movie! They should hire you.

Rewatching because it is Hallmark Christmas Movie season

  • @themagicpotato2943

I think a solution could be that in the end of the movie Mr. Florist goes with her and becomes the first florist in the North Pole with like a greenhouse full of different flowers--mostly christmasy but a few more "exotic" flowers like the first type of flower Santa found in the hotel. They could kiss in front of the flowers and everything is happy.
The sequel could be the chaos of Santa and Mr. Florist trying to get married or just get engaged but Christmas is coming and they keep getting pulled apart for business and stuff... Maybe someone like the Tooth Fairy or a Halloween Queen or someone is trying to seduce Mr. Florist away from Santa to distract her so they can swoop in and become the top holiday. There could be one of those misunderstanding scenes where the evil seductress kisses Mr. Florist and Santa comes in before he could pull away and she's all heartbroken and stuff. (Another possibility is that this concept is flipped so someone is actually trying to seduce Santa and Mr. Florist feels upset and leaves the North Pole because he just wants Santa to be happy but she still likes him and goes to find him). Lots of drama and misunderstandings later, they end up saying they still love each other and get married.
Lol I guess you can tell from my rambling that I really love your idea and I really hope you'll write a sequel for this! You did a fantastic job capturing the perfect blend of cheesy and fun that Hallmark movies always have.

@@KateCavanaugh I think it was called The Christmas spirit. It has all the workings of a great story: two rivals get in a car accident, fall into comas, and then fall in love in the spirit world. mainly it was just great because we got a few days off of school so they could film :)
