  • Today's guest is Leigh Duncan, author of Hallmark's first contemporary romance series. The first two books are already available, A Simple Wedding and A Cottage Wedding, set in the town of Heart's Landing. A Waterfront Wedding will be released in April 2021.
She tells us how she got started with Hallmark Publishing - and how you can, too! Sweet romance is more than just no sex. Leigh explains what Hallmark is looking for in their books. There is so much great advice here if this is a publisher you want to pursue! This is an episode you'll want to listen to with a notepad and pen.
You can find out more about Leigh and her books at her website leighduncan.com/ and she's on social media as leighduncanbooks. Leigh loves to hear from readers and writers, so reach out!

Thank you Kitty for having Leigh on your show. I listen to and read some excerpts from her "A Simple Wedding" and "A Cottage Wedding" and I like her writing style, voice, and perspectives - so I bought "... Cottage" and a couple of other Hallmark authors' books. I am an amateur writer looking to go pro.
Here’s an excerpt of one of my writings:
The hot yellow sun had long since awakened lizards, ants, butterflies, bird song, the hustle and bustle of humanity, and had put to bed things that belong to the night.
The scents of tropical flowers - jasmine, frangipani, ylang ylang, gardenia, hibiscus, and passion fruit - permeated the cabin and gently brought me back from sleep to consciousness as they replaced the remnants of my dreams.
Golden light rays tickled my eyelids, warmed my cheeks, and slid down my back.
And as my eyes slowly opened I witnessed a dozen shadows run and disappear into the cracks of nowhere as the sunlight rushed through the blinds in spectral rays that beckoned me to greet the day.
How comfortable I felt rolling around these bed sheets as the characters of my dreams
    turned into pillows.
