  • Our guest today is award-winning author Susan May Warren teaching us how to write a series.
There are several kinds of series and first Susie May explains them all. Then she shows us how to write a compelling series that readers can’t stop reading. Plus she gives us a fantastic tip that we can use to help readers jump into a longer series.
Go to the podcast show notes page to get the wonderful handout Susie May gave us! And be sure to check out Sunrise, her latest book one in a series and one of the books we used for some of the examples, as well as Sunburst (June 7, 2022) and Sundown (Nov 1, 2022) to see how she puts a series together. (Also great books! I’ve read the first and preordered the others.)

@@KittyBucholtz Thank you Kitty, I'll have a look. 🙂 I was pleasantly surprised that about a little more than half of what your guest mentioned, I had already figured out recently when thinking about my Hallmark novel. However, I had not thought about those 20,000 word... what did she call them, 'segue-in' books? I had though about a 'place' book, a 'mission or project' book, and 'character' based book and had decided to make a fusion of all of those that would require a series that eventually leed all the events and characters into a 'community' book. So I was glad to hear her encouraging words and advice about series.

@@gusmore26 And how encouraging that you realized you'd figured so much of it out already! It's one thing to come up with the same ide😀a as someone else, but so much better when the other person has already proven success with it! Good luck! Let me know when we can buy your books!

    Thank you!
I am not the only one who thought Matrix Resurrections was not good! lol It was nice seeing Neo and Trinity again but they rehashed the first movie with no stakes. There are so many things they could have done with the sequel to make it successful that it just fell flat for me which was super disappointing. The first one had all the necessary elements to make a great story but Resurrections lacked ALL of those. It's very strange. I dare say it might have been intentional because the writers were dead set against making a 4th movie but when they were going to do it without them... Just strange and sad because it could have been not only a great comeback but a great continuation of the world.
Overall, great interview. Very informative and helpful.
Question. Where can I find this "Chart" Susan talks about? Is this in the Story Equation book?
