    One of the things I’ve noticed with my own hair is that, there are parts of my hair that have medium porosity and the majority of my hair has high porosity, so I treat my hair as overall high porosity.
    Finger detangling has been by far a game changer for me because I have thin,low density hair. So finger detangling has been my best friend.
    Hydration vs Moisturize is something that I am now introducing in my routine. I have tried glycerine and I love it💃🏾. Thank you so much for sharing your tips and for this channel. 🙏🏾

      I was raised to use wide tooth comb but a lot of hair comes out so, for the last 5 or 6 months I've been using my fingers and a brush plus I don't detangle with wet hair anymore.

    I love my weighed down hair. I remove my bonnet and my hair falls into place. I don't go out of my way to do dedicated protein treatments. I alternate between moisture and strengthening deep conditioners. I consider my hair normal porosity. It gets wet fairly quick and doesn't look like hay if I let it dry without product.
    I use my wide tooth comb occasionally. I use my fingers and brush most times. I have far few tangles since finding my hydration/moisturize sweet spot. I also pre poo and do hot oil treatments every wash day.
    I'm a 60s baby. I didn't grow with deep conditioner, hair dryers or leave in. It was shampoo, rinse out conditioner and hair grease

Thinking about trying a brush for detangling, I'm currently finger detangling a bit then going in with a wide tooth comb, but I still struggle with so many single strand knots! What brush would you recommend?

    Always looks forward to watching your videos. ❤ I only use wide tooth comb when styling. I washed my hair recently and decided to try the kazmaleje paddle brush comb during my shampoo session. My mind was blow away. Compared to soley finger detangling during shampoo session i was able to shampoo and detangle my hair with about 5 to 10 mins. And this is while shampooing my hair freely and not in twists like I usually do. Never thought about putting sunscreen on my hair. I don't really spend hours outside in the sun. I love weighted down hair even whe my hair is straight. It creates more longevity of the styles I'm wearing. I don't solely finger detangle like I use to so I don't really experience heavy single strand knots unless I'm due for a trim. Hydration and moisture is key number one for hair growth. I now look forward to wash days. It's like a spa day for me. Greasy hair is part of our hair. Why should hair be bone dry. 😂 Deep conditioning has great benefits. Once or twice a month I do a good treatment. In the warmer months I refresh my scalp with rose water weekly. When my hair is straight in the winter months my scalp gets pretty dry and flakes at the front after 3 weeks so I have to go through and brush them out and oil my scalp a bit and massage.

    Love this! 😄 I also love weighed down hair, drenched with my Ayurvedic oils and shea butter. It helps the shed hair slide out and not get tangled as much as it would. And it doesn’t shrink as fast. Regarding tools, I use an expensive, medium sized tooth comb that I’ve had for 9 years. It gives me the delicacy that a wide tooth is supposed to offer, but the efficiency of a brush…after a finger detangle first of course. Girl you said a lot and it was great! 🌺

    I never cared about porosity. Been thinking of doing a video about it for the longest time actually. Never believed the test was reliable so never went by it. I just go with what gives my hair the results I like and helps my hair thrive and my hair has never suffered because of not considering my porosity in my hair care routine. When it comes to detangling, I go with fingers, wide tooth comb then detangling brush.

    I grew my hair to waist length from neck length hair without applying the principles of porosity. Shampoo, deep condition, moisturizes, twist it up and leave it alone until next wash day. I also never needed to remoisturize my hair in-between my weekly wash. I am very active and sweats from my scalp. I literally can not go past 6 days without cleansing my scalp. So for me, I might as well cleanse my hair and complete my whole routine.

    I have been using clove, fenugreek and rosemary water mixed with aloe Vera juice in my scalp. I have noticed that when I spray it in my scalp every three to four days it is cleansing my scalp. I train Jiu Jitsu three to four times a week and my scalp doesn’t get buildup up on it. I’m sure it’s because of the spray. Before I starting using it I would notice that I would have to wash my hair more often and I would get an itchy scalp. But since using it I can go 4-5 weeks without washing my hair because the spray is cleansing my scalp. I do follow the spray with an oil blend that I made So my hair doesn’t dry out. But it has been working well for me.

    I don't think we need sunscreen for hair. Speaking from personal experience, my hair is about level 5 in colour, and when I was younger, and used zero products, my hair would sunbleach to at least a level 9 in summer. But once I started using leave-ins and oils that protected my hair enough that it stayed dark. Now if I want the sun to bleach it, I'd have to shampoo it and go outside with zero conditioner. (Which is why I highlight it now instead.) So I think our regular products (and a hat!) protect hair just fine. 😊

    Interesting that you say you actually like greasy hair. I just recently had the exact same thoght.
    I live in a country with majority white people so my whole life this idea that greasy hair= bad, dirty
    and unhygenic has been ingrained in my head.
    But for a long time now I thought that my hair feels best when its greasy.
    Especially when the oil had time to ''marinate''. The oil keeps my hair very soft and less brittle. Of course I've used oils and butters in my hair my whole life but I was laways a bit embarassed about the fact that it made my hair greasy.
    This whole idea that oily= hair is bad doesn't fit to natural hair at all. I think the aversion against oily hair comes from the fact that straight hair looks different when it's oily and a lot of peole think it looks dirty. Our hair doesn't look oily or greasy even when it is. And nothing softens the hair as much as oil does.
    So I've come to accept the fact that my hair will probably feel oily most of the time and that that's okay because that's whats most benfeicial to my hair and it has nothing to do with being dirty

    I have hair that has just past waist length and I haven't used a wide tooth comb in YEARS. Not only it did nothing for me but I found that because of the frustration of not being able to go through my hair I would be rough and it caused me to have a lot breakage. I thought I was the only one lol until I stumbled upon a natural hair coach's video that basically explained why we need to stop using wide tooth combs for our natural hair. It is better to use our fingers or a brush. She basically said that to understand why this tool is not the best you need to understand the basics of WHY we detangle our hair.

    • @GracieNzg
      @GracieNzg 10 месяцев назад

      The 1st reason is to REALIGN the hair, from this alignment you will see curl formation. This also results in products being evenly distributed on the hair. A brush like the Tangle Teezer is great to because it has small flexible teeth that allows the hair to be easily realigned. A wide tooth comb with its big rigid teeth simply cannot realign the hair properly.

    • @GracieNzg
      @GracieNzg 10 месяцев назад +1

      The 2nd reason is to remove shed hair, because our hair is so tightly coiled shed hair easily get stuck and again because of its teeth size and rigidity a wide tooth comb also doesn't remove shed hair. You might see a few come out with it but the large majority of them will actually remain in your hair, you will also notice a lot of small broken hair. Overtime, knots will accumulate,. Also this type of comb is not able to pull the hair thot when you use it, it is simply too big. As a result, your shed hair will actually create more knots in your hair.
      So if you have only been using a wide tooth comb there is a great chance that a lot of shed hair have been stuck in there for a while. The day you decide to properly remove them you could loose up to 20% of your length.

    I don't feel there is a bible when it comes to hair of any texture. It depends on what we consider to be protective. I see protective as a style that protects the ends of our hair, not necessarily a style that adds extensions. Extensions make the style low manipulation but not necessarily protective which is why many people who wear extensions never achieve long hair.
    The best detangling tool is the one that doesn't snag and break our hair. Personally, since I shampoo my scalp every 3 - 4 days, and don't have a problem detangling. I use my fingers first and then a comb or a brush.
    Porosity isn't very important to me. I make sure my hair is completely wet before I add shampoo, and when I add products I add enough to saturate my hair. Personally, I don't want greasy hair and don't use grease, oil, or butter. It has nothing to do with this trend of no raw oils or butter. My mom never used it on our hair so I don't like the feel of my hair with them. I do use leave-in, creams, and gel depending on the style. It's fine for my products to have oil and/or butter in the ingredients. Protein and bond builders are regular parts of my routine since my hair isn't protein-sensitive and they add strength and protection against damage.

    I think Enitan of "Healthy Hair by Enitan" in the UK also discussed that the only people that have low porosity hair are new borns or someone that has just undergone a Big Chop. She is a certified trichologist.

    😂 Im just here with a question...whenever I do a protein treatment my hair feels nice and soft ...however moisturizing treatment does nothing...could it be that im high porosity?🤔

      do you mean deep conditioning g treatment? feels ineffective? Is this all the time or just when used with protein?

    So I wanted to know so when you do finger detangling so after you do finger dangling, can you like comb your hair out with a comb after?

  • @virendavictoria5174
    @virendavictoria5174 10 месяцев назад

    I think the problem with most of us is expexting something to do much as iys actually do like of you expect full detangle with wide tooth combs your lying to yourself😅 Each tool has the ability to do at its own level like a protective is actually different to everybody as much as you say the prep is difficult but it depends on how you prep and what you think you mist do for a prep. So it goes every tool every style is differwnt and perfom differently the important thing is to find what works for you and keeps that! case

      I think on protein treatment did a video on the right protein treatment. And u right choose the right protein treatment makes a difference…I will avoid aphogee protein treatment (it is high molecular protein treatment and can cause breakage especially when is too crunchy)

      @CoilyDiaries  10 месяцев назад +1

      Uhhh if there is an issue with hands then just use combs I’d say. Your health and wellbeing combed first. Just do it gently, take your time and with quality tools. Section the hair and chip at it slowly 🌺

    Hey sis!! Love your outside the box thinking!!! Protective styles…GIRL!!! The manipulation tho! I am doing braids on my own hair… would love cornrows but too much manipulation! Wide tooth combs a no for me… anything stiff. Brush is a No for me as well. I find that I experience more mid shaft splits on my coils after brushing. I will brush my scalp though 😊. Porosity… I agree but I feel I am lower porosity than high. Protein treatments… I can’t see myself signing up for protein treatments outside of hydrolized protein. My hair SNAPS with even a moderate of hydrolized protein and I CANNOT hydrate adequately for weeks. Detangling with my fingers only for me. I love your content and will watch your experiences closely.

      sis there is so much to unpack! Thanks for being real and open minded. let’s see what I find out on these topics. protein always hydrolysed and actually low molecular like silk and rice protein are the best

      Wow… I watched that natural Nadine video and now it has caused me to do some digging to. In regards to the porosity water test, I asked ChatGPT to explain it. AI states “The buoyancy of hair is influenced by its density and the presence of air pockets within the hair structure. Kinky or curly hair tends to have a higher density and more trapped air, which can make it more buoyant and cause it to float on water. Additionally, the structure of curly hair might create more surface area, contributing to increased buoyancy.” Girl!!!!
