- Dr.Jake/Dr.Flock replaces another heater core for a out of town customer for 320 dollar. Flock FARTED! Give us a call, we do yours. 1-864-684-4544 1007 Neely Ferry Road, Laurens,SC 29360 Includes a new blend door and heater core. Bout an hour wait.
Why do people find this as doing it wrong? I have turned wrenches and done many jobs as quickly as this. Mechanics are wizards, great work guys!! Oh, if you don't like how your car is worked on, do it yourself!
Don't blame the mechanics for learning how to turn the job quickly. Blame Ford for designing the job, to take 6 hours to repair.
Just took a quick look at video. Mmm nope can’t do it myself.
The first time I did it on my truck (2000 F-150) it took me 7 hours by myself. The second time I did it on a buddy's truck (2001 F-150) it took me about an hour. The problem is not that Ford designed it poorly it's that apparently Ford never put out any clear instructions on how to do it. Once I knew what I was doing and had an the right tools to make it easier it wasn't that bad.
I spent 29 plus years as a service manager and never could figure out what the engineers were thinking when they screwed up , oh I mean designed this stuff ??? 7 years of designing and they expected the techs to be experts after 1 day of tech school !!!
I'm sure this isn't the first one they've done. I used to be in the repair business and once you've done something like this you don't forget so the next time you don't waste time looking for fasteners, choosing the right size and variety of tools you'll need, no fear of breaking something because you missed a connector or screw. And, yes, it's worth what they charge.
12 minutes + 60 seconds is 13 minutes lol. you guys rock, if i ever need mine done it would be worth the trip. I did the rear heater core in my 2000 expedition myself, that was enough of a pain
Thank you for taking the time to post your video. It's too bad that half the people that commented dont even realize the dash doesn't have to come out any farther than you had it. I get a kick out of some of these people..I call bs on most of them having any kind of mechanical abilities......
You guys did a good quick job. Bravo.
This is good stuff right here. This is what you pay for when you take your vehicle to a shop, experience. Everyone that is here complaining, do you want your money back? Figure it out your damn self.
Looks like I'm going to have another cold winter in my truck. When flashlight guy started pulling out the complete steering column, I was thinking "Ford does NOT have a better idea".
x2malandy what? Bring it down here
Central Indiana here. How many miles?
Why do the engineers put the core so far in the dash?why do we have to remove dashes?
You forgot to double your time. .. there is two of you working on it. But still impressive.
What's bad is when you have extra fasteners leftover!!! Love to throw extras in when my buddies do things like this. Henhehe
I wish the truck I did today wasn't full of the messy ass customers crap and crappy install of the aftermarket alarm and extra wires that I had to be careful around. Good on you guys for getting that core out in record time.
Amen 🙏 it sure would make for a cleaner and more efficient job
I hear that! Dripping oil and mud and crap all over the floor and dust an inch thick under the dash means there is more than just Ford that makes work like this miserable. I start charging people for the time it takes to vacuum and blow out the crap and then clean their crap out of my shop.
The only thing i did not like was the brand new heater core was just sitting on the center console getting mashed on and a possibility of bending fins and scratching the customers console . Just a little bit of info so that you are careful in your next adventure in the cabin of a truck. A process I am all to familiar with. Overall good work guys . I enjoyed the video.
I do everything up to 8:30 when I park my car in the bad part of town. They can't steal it if they cant steer it.
Also, why's the title say "12mins plus 60 seconds"? Over here in Georgia, we call that 13 minutes.
lol!!!
Why does it take 12 minutes and 60 seconds to do and not 13 minutes? Asking for a friend.....
I found it was easier to just wait until the truck caught fire and burned to the ground on it's own. Then I went and bought something else.
Suuuuuure.
Talked to a friend today who has been a dealer mechanic for 20+ years. He says they routinely charged 10 hours. That includes removing the whole hvac unit to replace the evaporator core too since inevitably they leak too eventually.
When a company's design says we hate our customers
This one isnt that bad, trailblazers are a little harder!
love the step by step instructions. therooy and explainations so informitive and therough...nice job
Geesh your an a$$, nowhere in the description does it mention this is a how to video
Thank you for sharing this VIDEO. I try it and got it done in 35 min flat. 😎👍 HELL YEAH BOYS.!!! Good look out!!
I bought me 2 heaters that plug into cigarette lighter sockets 13 dollars each. Don’t get hot enough to run you out but doe’s keep you warm.
Now put it back together in 12 minutes. Hehe
YALL ARE FROM MY NECK OF THE WOODS I GREW UP IN WATERLOO OFF CATFISH COVE RD...GREAT VIDEO GUYS
Hunter Vinson I'm in mountville
Sure would have helped a whole lot to have seen what these two were doing.
Anyquestion feel free to call this was my dad he passed away back in 16 im little Jake and thats kyle on the left been meaning to make another video and upload. Still a lot of good info on these when henfirst started this he wasn't trying to race for time or nothing this was just something he thought of and wanted to get this down to a science and do a good quality job. As you can all see there are several videos of this with him from when he first started up to the most recent he wanted to learn what you didn't and did actually have to take off, because a lot of stuff that the dealers and other shops do is not required he was a mechanic for over 35 years very smart man and wanted to get jobs like this in and out and get people back on the road as quick as possible. After he got off work him and my buddy Kyle would dig in and do a quality job and take there time. Feel free to call with any questions or concerns I appreciate your time. God bless 🙏 and I'm available for heater core and air conditioning work Monday through Sunday. 864 871 6243

Sorry for your loss little jake .i lost my pops too ik how u feel bro.seems like he was a smart guy
@@Jakepayne99 sorry to hear your father passed away. He sounds like he was a really good person/mechanic that cared about his customers and his work. I'm not a mechanic, but I learn and fix EVERYTHING on my 2002 f150 (put timing chains, gears, guides 3yrs ago,put transmission in 2yrs ago, fixed the odometer and overhead compose 6m ago, fixed code 401 egr insufficient air flow 5m ago,, replaced rear brake lines 1m ago and now I have to rip my dashboard out just to replace the heater core??!
I'd like to meet the engineers that design this and slap them in the face and ask them what were they thinking 🤫🤔🤭. I've owned Ford trucks for 30+years, but if I need to buy another vehicle it will not be a Ford that's for sure 😉
Man i find this video a fucking year after i spent all day doing mine....
It’s not just Ford folks. It goes for every automaker. No car will be quick and easy.
@@user-wl4dm5vm6oapparently you haven't changed newer chevy heater cores because you're full of crap
You were cheating who is on the outside of the truck unhooking the hoses and draining the antifreeze
Just cut the heater core and open up that drain plug that saved me a good amount of time. It's getting replaced either way.
12 min and 60 seconds? Is that different than 13 minutes?
this is a look what we can do vid not a how to vid
Lol I agree waste of time
I dont mean to shit on you guys, it's cool that you got it done quick, but if any one is looking for on how to remove a dash this video ain't it
Exactly, shoes nothing and no hints given. This wasn't their first time as they had every tool readily available.
... watch the video about a dozen times or pay close attention to them. Don't complain cause it wasn't "informative enough."
I guess no explanations needed just rip dash board out screw it a couple of times, breath heavy screw some more and put it all back together! Now where do I find a friend who wouldn't mind screwing up the dashboard and screwing it back together. I sure learned me a lots...thanks fellas!
Moonstruc Meis wrong no screw ups
Dopey vid. Devil's in the details and U left out a lot lil bubbas.
It's more of a look what we can do come here use us video. Advertising not educational
wlehtola not really it’s common sense
They didn't finish in 12 minutes. I mean impressive, but the dash was out, not job done. we never saw the heater core. was Hoping to get a preview at what I'm looking at for doing this soon.
Welp looks like i just wont have a heater then
LMAO 💀
Exactly what I told the wife lol
I don’t have no idea how they did this so fast i have been trying to take mine out for hours now and i still have something locking it on i have took out way over a hundred screws so far 😊😮
You forgot that 7mm right below the center of the instrument cluster must of broke it off when you were tugging on it or it wasent in there from the last time the dash was out lol 12 min and just barely had the dash out which is not quite halfway through the job
How about covering the interior seats when performing the job. Putting all those parts on top with dirt, grease, sweat not a smart idea, especially for a customer.no wonder it takes them very little time, just thinking about money.
It looks like y'all's nasty, sweaty, dirty asses are getting those seats pretty dirty in the vid
Impressive. I have to change my blend door on my Crown vic. Too bad Im in NJ. Id would definitely go to you guys for this if you guys were closer
crabby125 wish you were closer those aren't bad at to do feel free to call me if you have any questions.
Oh man that brings back memories.. I had a 01 crown Vic blend door actuator with a mind of it’s own. Full cold in the middle of a New England winter at random wasn’t fun at all. I was able to pull the glovebox door down and waited till it went to full hot, then I locked onto it with a cheap pair of needle nose vice grips and it got me through the rest of winter.
I see a whole lotta "I shouldn't be working on my own car" in the comments section
have to do it again, guy showed me how to reach the hose clamps with long needlenose pliers through the engine side but i don"t think i will be able to get them back on that way, thinking of modifying the the copartment under the dash.
This looks like partially pulling the dash in 12minx2 (because there are 2 people). Still need time to drain coolant, disconnect lines, remove old core, install new core, reinstall dash, refill coolant, check operation of instruments, warm engine up and remove air from cooling system, check for leaks, replace other trim pieces, etc.. oh and if you have the center console that isn't shown replace that as well.. not to mention that just removing the dash doesn't even give you direct access to the core, there is still more to remove.. (that is what is being worked on when the video cuts out). plus A/C? I guess you don't HAVE to drain it.. that saves a lot of time i'm sure..
Not trying to knock the video for what it is, but the title is a bit misleading. I suppose it does only say out in 12.. plus 60 that was cut off?, not replaced.. even still I find it hard to believe that the customer was able to drive in, have it replaced, and drive away in an hour.. you even had extra time to setup lights and camera.
Helpful nonetheless, thanks for posting.
No need to drain coolant. And the core is right there in the middle of the dash
It's still impressive. I once tried to pull a dash on a 95 Taurus SHO. Took me most of the day to get it out and still didn't get the part changed because there was more stuff I needed to disassemble to change the blend door motor. I've sense rebuilt manual transmissions, ac systems, and done the top end on a motor. As a self thought mechanic, I'd rather deal with anything under the hood than a dash on a plastic dash car.
Though this video gives me more confidence that it's manageable.
That core is in a heater box and you better believe that the a/c freon is going to need to be evacuated.no different than the early t-birds/cougars/ Taurus/Sables.8.0 hrs but the book

@@jeffreybrantley192haha, no
Incredibly professional but I ain’t never even gonna try it…
Hate to crush your feelings. 12 minutes + 60 seconds equals 13 minutes. We did not see the heater core removed. Obviously 2 people working on this is better than 1. I call BS on this
It’s probably easier cutting a hole in the firewall
And customer brings back wondering why it rattles & whistles going down the road now...
"It was like that before we started, sorry"
Does not rattle only when you take t to people like your self probably a shade tree mechanic
What brand of heater core/blend door are you using? I found 2 on Advance auto---1 had reviews with 6 of them not fitting correctly and the other had no reviews. I have a 98' F150 4.6 (W vin). Thanks in advance. Also, do you have to do anything with the AC??? One place quoted me 1100 and said they had to re-charge the AC.
93001 its a Murray at oreilly but they put a sticker on top of spectra it is by far the best I've used and have good luck
Never seen the core. Still needed to drain antifreeze, evacuate freon, remove battery unhook hoses, connectors, then remove the hvac box.then remove core from box.
What year truck did you do this in?
I'm glad someone else saw this the same way I did.
Evacuation of freon is not necessary in this R&R.
@@kenno251 Ummmm... yes it is... must remove entire hvac housing to replace heater core, and a/c evaporater is in the housing. How exactly would you not have to evac the a/c again? I love when people talk outta their ass!
@@phillipschutter24 No need to be an asshole , and to be technical if you must , you do not have to evac every vehicle , most of the more vehicles , but not all !!
question... I did a heater core on a 2002 f150 and when I was done I don't see where the wires clip into for the headlight switch. it's about a foot long and goes from the switch to somewhere. anyone know
doing it on your own , try plugging into your arse
I didn't know you had to pull stearing collum out to change heater core, not sure how to spell collum it's got me stumped just watching these guys
Wish you guys were closer to me. I've got a 99 Expedition I need done.
I swear if anything breaks on my vehicle it's in the guts of the damn car. Never a 4 bolt fox 🤣
this overhead lighting looks better than the dewalt one. as to the speed, well it just gets better every job !
Lol, rumor has it this truck ended up on blocks, in an alley, on the bad side of town, these two nowhere to be found.
smithraymond09029 your funny as fuck
smithraymond09029 no chop shop. Fuck u
This is the most UNINFORMATIVE video I have watched in a long time. Complete waste of my time.
Okay, great! Now can you guys come do mine??
Hopefully no one calls out and one guy doesn't have to do it by himself. I'll send all mine to you guys!
This was as much fun as a root canal.
Thats a nascar 24 man minutes job.
Can you please show how to do this and where things are located. 👍
Lol fuck no
Do you have to remove the steering column to get the dash out or does it just make it easier? Never replaced one on a ford but it may be something I have to do in the future.
This is the only video i saw where they actually remove it, everyone else just lowers it
this is one reason I like old cars and truck u un bolt heater core box from under dash no dash to remove
what is the difference between the dorman 902-207 and 902-220 blend doors? and which one do I need if I'm replacing the heater core in my 98 f150? thanks.
MrCoffeekelly you need the 902 207 not a lot of difference but you will notice the medal ring on them now where they slide down on the actuator which is supposed to reenforce it it isn't nothing but a pain I always end up taking the medal ring off cause if you think about it before it will ever break it will be awhile look how long the factory one lasted
You guys rock ... I knew that six hours was bullshit
i took out the dash but didn't remove the steering column tok 2 days to take apart and put back together! took my time to make sure i didn't screw anything up!
Richard Bell Sr that's good sad part is I always find where the other shops including ford dealers leaves a lot of screws out and break stuff
Richard Bell Sr we always end up putting more screws back then we took out because the last person to go in there left a bunch of stuff out
Jake Payne ain't that the truth",lol
Jake Payne those screws that are missing are what they refer to as "factory optional"
America have some of the best engineers.and this is the best for a heater core.to much work
These guys "disappeared". They no longer exist. Sheriff probably called them in on their warrants.
We are still here
Your funny
KickDownDoors don reynolds sheriff. He would watch
@@Jakepayne99 are yall still in business? I need to bring our 2010 F 150 in for this if so. We are about 3.5 hours away but this would be so worth it.
Taking it apart is easy, putting it back is the hard part!
I just wanted to know what I have to sawzall to get at it quickly. I don't care about f'ing up the plastic or the looks,, just wanna swap out the leaky heater core.
Gets the sawzall out and cut the dash in the middle makes a how to do video in 6min flat.
You guys have done that a time or two!
Looking for a how to video and found a demonstration, no explanations doesn’t really help a guy out fellas!
ruclips.net/video/IZVE10Lbgqk/видео.html
Try this one. It’s pretty good.
What can't you figure out? Look where they are reaching for bolts. You can see where they are removing bolts and disconnecting wiring.
had water running out from under the truck and steam coming out of vents does that mean the heater core is bad .Found water comin out of ac drain hole..ANY SUGGESTIONS
Hunter Vinson yes.
YA, either a cat pissed in your dash or your heater core leaks.
The poor guy working on the driver side looks like there's a ton to take loose
Not bad at all he had this down to a science. Master Mechanic for 35 years two shops service manager for used Carlot also cut grass on side had pilots license and came up with many tools and inventions. On top of racing with mideast hare scramble series.
@@Jakepayne99 come replace mine while you're at it fix all the holes for the spark plugs in the head since I've had several blown out
@@Jakepayne99 Your dad sounds like he was a great man. I'm sorry he passed on to the next great adventure. I am sure you took as much of his knowledge as you could and will continue his legacy.
I need to know how the passenger side top plastic part of the dash is called. And I NEED a better view of how it is removed.
It has tabs and maybe some adhesive all around it and 2 or 3 connections on the left side to remove that are kinda of a bitch
You guys are awesome. NASCAR fast on that darn ford heater core.
Electrolysis eating your heater cores??? Check all grounding straps, and flush out the old coolant.
Great work guys
I spent a whole day removing a dash to replace a heater core on a car then I realized if I had dropped the glove box, I could have reached in and pulled it out.
x2malandy how did that work out for you?
I laughed about it.
The worst video. Shows there back for 12 minutes
12 minutes to get access to it.
Another 15 to replace it,
And how long to put it back together? 5 hours?
Nope
@@Jakepayne99 6?
There was a one hour wait for the customer. In other words, they do this while you wait. Try that at your dealer. I waited longer for tires to be balanced. How long do you wait to get a "driver's license" renewed? These guys are lightening fast at replacing heater cores buried under a dash that was never intended to be removed.
@@Michael_J_M14 The customer drove it away with a one hour wait. If you ever grow a set of balls maybe you could attempt while-you-wait guaranteed work like this.
@@johnbrooks7144 I ask you this, do they charge the book rate or the rate in which they actually take?
My truck was quoted $800 because of the labor.
I had mice living in the 01 f-150 I just bought for about a year I would guess. I have a rodent stink coming from the heater and ac vents when using the fan. Can you at least get access through where the blower motor is to check for any nests/dead mice? Otherwise, I am down to pulling the dash out. Gonna take me more time than you guys. Amazing!
I tried to fix one today and my car it's not my so for some reason the staring wheel was upside down how that he'll that happened?
im tearing mine down in the am last month i had to replace the gem module then it got so cold the crackhead who own the f-150 before me put to much water in the antifreeze becouse his shit was more important didnt tell me and now my windows fog up teribly. any suggestions i done a pt cruiser for my aunt is this any worse ???
That was really damn impressive. Wish you guys would have videoed the whole thing.
But then it would have been 7 hour video.
Kinda pointless video without any explanation. 👎
Of course it takes a shorter time with more than 1 person. All the shops I've worked at and been at, 1 person does it and they don't use air tools. If your gona show it then do it the way your average person would have to do it in their driveway. Not everybody has the tools yall use in the video. An shop can do it that way but you have to remember, not everybody cn afford that now days. Plus you didn't say anything about undoing the battery so the airbags don't go off prematurely. Your sitting their doing this but you ain't telling anybody what your doing, which steps to take stuff off in, none of that.
You don't have to take the steering column completely out of the truck either! That's a waste of time. Not once did you undo the main power going through the firewall so you can roll the dash back as far as you did. Theirs steps that you didn't do that HAS to be done. I had a Ford Master Technician show me how to do it. You basically done it half assed! It's people like you that makes these to where anybody thinks they can do it!
Josh Hill I’m one person at a shop lol
why am i waiting an hour for a 12 minute job?
Sure, it's easy and fast with two people. But a lot of people don't have that luxury. A lot of the time it's just one person working on their own car.
WANAMASSA I’ve done this job in fifty minutes to an hour to that’s with flushing
looks like it took two hours to get the tools ready, or they were all just laying around.... right!!!.
I have a 2001 Lightning and mine is leaking too. I dread getting into it because I usually end up breaking something plastic have left over hardware 😅
Not good mate.
To all you thinking THIS is bad. I’d like to see you try a heater core change on a WJ Grand Cherokee. Biggest pain in the ass ever
By
Old cherokee is worst all old jeeps
Try a pt cruiser
72 chevy monticarlo is the worst I've ever done so far.
I dont see went you disconnected the heater hoses
Only took me six minutes two seconds to watch them.
Anyone recommend a good shop for a '98 F20 heater core near Tacoma, WA? I need to pay $320 not $$$$$$$$ that most shops charge!
Fill it with stop leak and sell the damn thing
Or just bypass it like I just did on a customers truck lol. I'm not pulling off dashes anymore. I'll bypass it for free for my frequent customers then they can find someone to do the work. The way my back is these days lol no more dash pulls for me.
What year is this truck?
12 minutes to get to the core, 1 hour for 2 guys to get it out and put a new one in, 2 hours to put it all back together [x2men] another hour to find lost screws, sockets, bolts and curse the day Henry Ford was born. Idiotic engineering. So, that's 6 or seven hours of hell.
Richard Raucina AGREED
Thanks. And add another hour to get the anti freeze back in. Horrible project.
Richard Raucina ignorance of understanding engineering
@@RRaucina An hour to pour in anti-freeze? Oh, you had to drive an hour to pick some up.

thanks for the video. If y'all take donations, I'll gladly donate a headlamp so you don't have to suck on a flashlight for those 12 min and 60 sec..........
He swallowed it. Never mind.
6 hours my arse. Took me 3 days to take my dash apart, replace the core, swear & curse at the heater lines, & put the whole piece of sh!t Ford engineering back together. Have the baggie of 25 leftover dash screws to prove it. NEVER AGAIN.
impressive
after this job i did, i got the motor to turn, but would not fire up. any suggestions? missed ground wire? plz help
Take cover off exposing wires on steering wheel recheck loose wires turn key on and look for anything unusual . try pushing wires together
Did you screw in all of the grounding wires to the chassis???
i have heat but my windows fog up do i have to replace the heater core or does it just need to be flushed out
windows fogging usually has to do with ac compressor not cycling and pulling moisture from the air
That depends on how bad they're fogging up. If it's really bad and constantly a problem, then that usually means the heater core is leaking. Especially if you smell a sweet odor...
How about a 2007 f-150 , started out with heat blowing cool until I get on highway now I smell antifreeze. Replace my only option
2013 f150 blowing no heat until freeway also did you get it fixed?
Damn impressive guys! I do them solo, but nonetheless 12 mins to get there is incredible. I do them all day. The only one I charge more for is the damn PT Cruiser lol. What's the worst vehicle you have done and time?
I did mine and now my truck won't start I got all plugs plugged in except for one ant that one is a flat gray plug on top of the dash on the passenger side
