+STLYoungblood A bunch of whiners Piracy is a necessary evil in a open world sandbox that involves trading goods and ships with Guns. You need Wolves as well as sheep and Sheep dogs.
+STLYoungblood I think you should be careful about the shadow ban though. I have to admit, your videos are the only SC videos I watch. They're just so much better than anything else I've seen. Really enjoying this series :)
+STLYoungblood We only hate people who intend to be pirates, thinking it will be easy and that it should be easy (think CIG should provide them with a perfect pirate ship that is fast, maneufverable, can outgun almost anything and carry loads of cargo). Pipe dream and totally unbalanced. You are free to use any ship CIG makes for piracy, whichever fits the bill better. But NOT ask them to make you some perfect pirate ship. Dropping cargo at gunpoint? Seriously. Who will do that? Another pirate falacy and wishfull thinking. Just because a pirate ship says STOP, this is Pirate Jack, drop all your cargo or else. we have no idea how slow the cargo ships are, so saying the Cutlass is slow applies to it vs a fighter or racer. Considering the Aurora is a small cargo ship the Cutlass is faster than it is I expect the even bigger hauler to be even slower when full of cargo. Also 2 man Avenger variant is confirmed by CIG as a variant. Size 4 weapons for Tali turrets also confirmed. The same ones that we are testing in 1.3 for the Cutlass and Hornet .
Starfarer G for best pirate ship. Large cargo hold, plenty of passenger space, has the shields and guns for it. Slower speed doesn't matter as much against the larger cargo ships that'll think you're another harmless hauler. Then wham!
For the Redeemer, I believe the current 24 unit cargo capacity is just for that little tail section. In the "enhanced ship modularity" stretch goal description they talked about the Redeemer as an example, saying the bottom room could be replaced with a cargo hold... so it will likely be able to hold a bit more if you wanna take it in that direction. Of course you'd be losing some of the marine transport/boarding capabilities in order to do that.
I think the most effective way to pirate will be in convoys with dedicated scanning ships, dedicated fighter/interceptors and finally dedicated cargo ship/s to clean up. That's how I'd do it ;)
I know it's a video about pirate ships, but: what about Cutlass Red as a light/medium exploration ship? It got bunk beds, 4 (FOUR!!!) "Additional Equipment" slots, decent cargo capacity, tractor beam included :) Sure, some retrofitting would be required, but still. Also, should make it through the smallest jump points.
The cutlass red has zero cargo space with its standart equipment inside, but its a good idea since the docking collar makes it able to attach a nox or dragonfly onto it
Nice Vid, difficult topic! What about the Vanguard Sentinel/Herald? It´s allways said Information are the most valuable good! I am interested in checking out the prowler before I make a decision on a pirate ship. That thing could be cutting a hole in your hull before you even have the chance to surrender and drop your cargo.
Hello Youngblood, great video thank you for doing it. I have friends that are all ready talking about pirating and really looking forward to it. I think its just there is not enough information about what you can do, where you can hide out and what kind of security you are going to have to deal with to really get a good feel for how fun its going to be in game and if its not fun then no one is going to do it. Hope the dev's take that into account.
Piracy ftw! I just wanna point out that, yes while cargo capacity is essential for being a pirate like you pointed out, it's not a requirement because as you also pointed out piracy is best suited for multiple people. My long-term plan is to have several fighters like the vanguard, sabre etc go in and threat/disable the enemy and then roll up in a more cargo-based ship to haul away the goodies. All depending on target and such of course.
I'm reading through the comments and considering what was said in the video....and I have a bit of a curve ball to throw into the mix. Lets for an example say we have a Phoenix (not saying I am planning this) and with that Phoenix comes a certain mindset of luxury and class. So when people see it they are typically going to think of it as a luxury liner type of ship...and let their guards down a little bit. They might scan it to make sure the Ident is clean...but mostly they are going to not pay it much mind. Now let's say this Phoenix is rigged for EWAR so it has a fake ident that shows clean and people let their guards down...and soon find themselves in a sticky situation of being disabled by pirates :)
Seriously though I think the redeemer maybe better than the constellation. "Fed up of Bounty hunting? Swap in a larger cargo module in the lower deck to make that profitable run you have been planning for a while" in particular talking about the redeemer.
I am enjoying this series and I feel that it highlights your strengths, STL. Maybe part of why people are/were down-voting this one is because they plan to pirate with a small group or organization (I haven't heard as many players banging on about looking forward to flying solo) and they reject the idea that every pirate, or member of a pirate group needs cargo space, else they are actually marauders. It almost becomes an issue of ad hominem (no cargo-space = murderer/thug/etc.). Of course, the insistence that a pirating entity needs cargo-space to carry loot is true, but the early portion of the video does not make it clear that your discussion is on SOLO piracy (which you clarify at the end of the video). Maybe another option for a title would be "picking the right SOLO pirate ship." Also, you forgot to mention that the Tali-pirate is best pirate, because Tali looks scary as all hell...
You're a base model Freelancer, looking for an ever elusive jump point (You're pretty sure you're lost). It's peaceful, nothing out of the ordinary beyond your cockpit. After stopping to survey the area, you prepare to get going. The thrusters won't start. The lights go out, and the emergency generators briefly come on, then fade out again. Your communicator plays a loud static, a voice rising above the whote noise. "I am the Dread Pirate Roberts. There will be no survivors."
I don't see anyone in a Aurora, Reliant or Mustang being a pirate... Personally I'm running a Tali with the Drop Ship and Cargo mod for my main ship, pirating, smuggling or playing militia are all things I plan on doing.
cargo capacity of 30; lol that's when I realized how old the video I was watching was. I mean I should have guessed it when you suggested an aurora had weapons; but that sealed it. Man they have power crept hard with this game. I forget that sometimes.
One way I was thinking of technical piracy was have a team of fighters destroy a ship, then bring a reclaimer come in and take the salvage, and maybe the cargo if it survives.
I have both the Cutlass Blue and Caterpillar and neither are going to be used for piracy. Former mostly for bounty hunting and the latter for cargo/trading as I hate the design of all the other trading ships bar the Reliant. However, I think the Avenger will be most go to pirate ship for solo players.
Thanks for the vid. Interesting rundown. I think I agree in that solo-ship piracy is going to excel with the Constellation series (Andromeda or Pheonix). I do, however, think that the best pirates will run in teams, with multiple ships. Say, an Aurora and an Avenger, or an Aurora or Hull A/B/C (preferably) and a C'Black/Blue. The Freelancer MIS seems to be a great choice for a single-engagement/pick your target carefully sort of enterprise, as well. The Tali breakdown was fun, too. Hey--you used to love the Redeemer! Did the shine fall off of the apple?! :) At any rate, nice rundown as always, and thanks!
+oldswab I think planning that big will cause problems over time. If you're set on stealing all the cargo of a Hull E there is no profit to be made for the haulers. In discussions on the CIG forums it became clear that haulers might give you 10% of their cargo to avoid battle altogether. If you take everything, all the time the self destruct option becomes mighty tempting: that way you both leave each other without anything to gain.
I just want to be a simple supply runner. Space merchant/ Smuggler if needed. No Not Han Solo, he couldn't save his son nor his relationship. But The thought of being something so casual yet being in the future of this game is fucking amazing! IT's been my dream as a lil boi(spelled like that on purpose) to either be a space pirate, Commander of a Battleship, or a merchant. Don't like we all have thought of it
Im wondering about the herald & other info warfare ships & piracy. It may be possible to 'pirate' information (undisclosed jump points or resource points) rather then cargo or ships, potentially being just as, if not more profitable then normal piracy. We still don't know enough about info warfare to say for sure thou. Keep up the awesome vids, I really like the way you "think out loud", helps me focus my thoughts on the subjects. Look for me in the verse, i'll be the pirate with the sparking power cables as hair, Edward Teach style :P
Good video like always. I think you forgot one ship though that seems pretty good to me and that would be the Connstellation Taurus. Granted it has less punch than the Andromeda but it should do some serious damage. Also it has a small crew and should be fairly maneuverable. And it is a pretty cheap ship too. As it is in the same range as the Cutlass I would at least give it some thought.
would the cutlass be a good cargo vessel? i know there are others with more storage. but this looks like it has the power to defend itself *against* pirates.
i changed from the freelancer to the cutlass red, because you wont make much money with it anyway and you can still hire on a large ship if you need cash really quick
I would have a Torpedo/cargo Tali, a dropship redeemer and a few hornets. That should be enough bang to destroy most other setups and some cargo space to get a profit. Edit actually cargo/cargo tali, a vanguard for the topedos and a few hornets. Should be able to have a few boarders even with a cargo/cargo tali.
+Kehinde Odusanya Imo the Hornets will hold you back. They lack long range travel, meaning you can't operate in a bigger area, something the Retaliator and Vanguard can do. Also if mid heist a UEE patrol comes to the rescue the Hornets will be to slow to run away.
Hey STL, i was wondering if you could elaborate or link up what a marauder is. I am just naturally curious what makes them diffrent. This isn't a "Correction" comment, i am just really curious now because i never knew this or even considered it and first few sites on google called marauders :To rove and raid in search of plunder. (Which sounds like a pirate) Im trying to find a definition that talks about "Murder" or "Killing" Again i just would like to learn the difference, and not correct you. Thanks for your videos, your my favorite SC youtuber.
From what he said in the video I guess it would be flying around killing the crew but due to lack of cargo space having a 2nd ship pick all the goodies? Or just steal little things or the whole ship if you have 2nd person with you?
a solo pirate is a dead pirate. personally what i believe anyways. i feel you need at least 2 or 3 ships and a crew on each to effectively pirate any ship worth stealing. polaris and with a super hornet on board to scare them, cat to suck up the jettisoned cargo. or sentinel with its emp missiles to disable and a cat to store loot, or mind you to cut into and board while disabled, make crew abandon ship, and steal ship with cargo still onboard would be the desired scenario as they are unlikely to just give up they probably will fight to the death before and or after boarding, so i forsee disable/board/kill being the most common practice but only because players wont give up even with the consequences of losing characters/upgrade parts/waiting on ship insurance.
i do hope they will add a tiny amount of cargo to every ship (except snub fighters) even if im in a gladius, cant i but a little box under the seat or something? just so that its not enough to do any cargo work, but if you wanted to transport some space cheetos you could.
+xavier k. haberle I think I've heard them say that small stuff will be fine, like you could use an M50 (no cargo) to take a envelope as a courier service.
I hope to be the future scourge of the P.U. I am trying to make up my mind between Cutlass Black and Freelancer. Would love a Redeemer But that's a little too pricey right now. I want to get this done today.
Will there also be privateers? I mean, can I be a pirate who fights for the "good" side and just robbs the "bad" guys? Cause that will help the law (cause the bad guys are handycaped) and I can be a pirate without having fear of the law...
I wonder how they'll address Pirate grieving. Mainly from the "victim." ex: victim ejects and self destruction ship destroying all cargo just do the Pirate gets none.
Devin Christian I'll probably be using a character to make some runs that are dangerous. Meaning : on that character, death is irrelevant. I bet some people will be doing the same.
Devin Christian Easily avoidable, just use "expendable" charclacters who's life is worthless to transport cargo whole your main is the one who does the deals
+Th3UnluckyGam3r Last I knew yes, all conies are in hanger (don't own 1 myself so I cant check), there is 1 way you can find out for sure. Log on to RSI & try to assign it to a hanger bay
@STLYoungblood You keep mentioning mediocre speed being a downside, but if you're a pirate, you're most likely going to want to attack a relatively defenseless target carrying a bunch of cargo, these ships, especially when loaded down with cargo are most likely going to be quite slow so I doubt ships like the cutlass will have much trouble keeping up.
+Jasta85 I don't disagree, but the problem is in the element of the unknown. Speed is a huge benefit for a pirate, and you can't deny you'd want a faster cutlass if you were pirating. It's like that for balance sake, but compare things like the freelancer and constellations which have much larger engines. Fully loaded they may be fairly slow, but how slow? That's the unknown.
+shadowsa2b I think that was actually "archive footage". I have both the Andromeda and the Aquila and the Merlin actually is not attached to the ships anymore. It stands in front of the Conni since... 1.2 I think.
I had the Phoenix but asked rsi for refund after they changed the stats I was awesome on paper before the change now it is meh IMHO less weapons less missiles maybe better fighter? Not worth the price
for the love of god people need to do some research on this game, this question gets asked way too much. Look up 'pay to win' on reddit and you will see what I mean, and get your answer (it's yes btw)
+Kehinde Odusanya I'm not sure on the specifics of the new Avengers outside of the ewar variant. The button is an old feature from previous footage (just wanted to show the ship)
Aidan Sprucechopper true, also, piracy will be a tough thing to do if you do it when you first start out due to the high cost, so the cutlass's affordability is what I really like
MISC is the company that makes all the Freelancers. It's not a variation of a Freelancer. That being said, Yes I think I would make a great pirate ship. It has less missiles but it does still have them and a turret and 4 main S4 guns so nothing the scoff at. It's also quite nimble (at least currently) and has good shields and seats in the cockpit for 4. So you can certainly carry the crew for a pirate raid and have more space for the cargo when you are done then on the MIS variant. I doubt having the reloading missile system will be that big of a deal for most applications except militia... which is what the MIS was made for. I personally don't think you can beat the standard Freelancer as a well rounded ship that can do just about anything pretty well.
+MrNingaFilms I think it'll be great too, and I mention it in a quick note at the end, but it's not really what I was going for with this video. I think the Cat will be outstanding working in conjunction with a few other ships in a piracy org.
+MrNingaFilms Your legal stuff might suffer though, as being involved in piracy means your reputation takes a hit. You can't simply pirate anonymously.
+Tefflar Yeah legal stuff will take a hit, but me and my brother share accounts, cause he has some ships I don't. He told me he is going full blown pirate, so if I want a taste of piracy, Caterpillar and his character. (Unless switching accounts in not allowed)
My rep will be that of a pirate. You will know my name, and come to fear it. Come for the bounty on my head and wake up in the hospital, or a body bag. I will need no anonymity. I will be the scourge of the P.U. and it will be GLORIOUS!!!
Is there a reason that you define piracy as stealing cargo rather than stealing ships? Is there a game dynamic, policy or feature that somehow forbids stealing ships? Given one can steal a ship, it seems to me the obvious choice for best pirate ship is the Redeemer with all 4 of the large turrets mounted with fixed Jokers and the small turret mounting a tractor. That would seem to make possible up to 32 jokers firing forward and one would not expect to need to do that for long to immobilize even larger ships. If you can put 6 NPC's and 4 PC's aboard something like a Carrack, Endeavor, or 890 Jump quickly, there would seem a fair chance you could take her. Intrepid souls could even try their hand at stealing Javelins, and though you'd expect to lose that fight, suppose you won!
+Ron Stahl Stealing a ship will be possible. However, getting it to appear legal will be very hard. Chris has mentioned before that some very shady pirates (probably NPC's) could give it a new identity but the costs would be close to the price of actually buying the ship legit. All ships will wear from use and will need repairs. You can't just take a stolen ship to be repaired anywhere. It will be confined to lawless space.
Actually, the term Marauder also implies stealing people's stuff. If you're only in it to kill people, that would just make you a regular murderer. A space serial killer.
+Sebastian Hojem I think it could potentially be, but I think the crew is so large that unless you're taking on a massive target capable of filling the cargo hold on the MM, which is very large, you're probably going to bleed more money than you're going to make.
+Sebastian Hojem I think a pirate ship should always take it's crew to cargo hold to weapons to maneuverability ratio into consideration. And the Banu may really be a good trading ship that will be able to stand it's ground against pirate attacks but less to be in the engaging side. It has a huge cargo hold, enough crew for a boarding party but doesn't seem to have an overwhealimg fire power nor the speed to catch up with many potential targets.
I would like to be a pirate. I was a famous pirate in Space Engineers, called "Imperial Remnant Pirates" in Transcend Server (no longer up) until I couldnt run the game due to old pc. Getting new one black friday.
Avenger.... you can have your "buddy" sleeping in the bed, and just let hijm know its time to "earn" his pay. additionally the warlock variant has a EMP weapon to shut down a ship without distroying it. food for thought. sounds like a winning strategy to me.
+Arnstone88 Not enough cargo and you have to leave your ship alone to go get it. I love the 325, but it's a forced recommendation for piracy. The speed and firepower are there though. If you want to just steal a bigger ship and set your 325 to self destruct, it might be an interesting choice, but you're still one man boarding a larger vessel!
Oh, I get that there's better options for sure =] ...just thought it was strange to mention the Mustang, Aurora, and Avenger, and not mention the 300 series. So more of a nitpick than any actual complaint ;)
The clan I'm in has more than 50 members and I've bought the Redeemer for boarding. Someone else in my clan will buy a cargo ship to clean up the booty after we capture the ship.
my way of piracy: Retaliator with dropship module and small torpedo bay working together with Avengers. I dont care about cargo hold, because I will board the ship, eliminate it´s crew and fly away with that ship. If there will be a way to sell crew of that ship as slaves, I will do that too :) cargo+ship+enslaved crew=profit...
Why magically skip Caterpillar? It is THE ship to have if you are a pirate. You would do well if you use Caterpillar waaaaaay before any Retaliator, Connie or Redeemer.
+Robert Ra Just because the lore and assumption say pirate ship doesn't make it the best pirate ship. I mention it more in an upcoming video, but until we know more there are a lot of questions and frankly some doubts about it.
+max gustafsson The brochure says 0. I'm thinking you might be able to replace the camper, but TBD. Either way, it still doesn't make a great pirate ship.
Seems like there's no point to the 325a, really. The Avenger has surpassed it or matches it. I want to CCU it and get an Avenger, but my heart won't let me do it. Might just buy the Avenger as a standalone.
I think you dropped the ball on piracy. Why cargo capacity when you can steal the other ship. It is what pirates in real life do. Why hassle with the unload that would take forever? Just board, kill the pilot, and run. It would give emphasis on using speciality members to take the vessels. A breacher, a hacker, and two pilots.
i think having a cargo ship with an unregistered pirate and a small ship taking out the pirates is the best way to succeed because only the bad guys will be chased by the uee, not the cargo hauler selling the goods at the next node
Imagine, a swarm of 15-20 Mustang Alpha's, picking cargo off of transporters like flies on a corpse
the cutlass red would make a good pirate ship as well, take out the medbay part keep it looking like a standard search and rescue ship, basically make it a Trojan horse, the other pilot could think its medical and give them a false sense of security
I'm guessing people really hate the idea of piracy, cause this thing is getting downvoted pretty hard on reddit! lol
EDIT - Ok, it's bouncing back :)
+Broc Stefan (Kelley) Isn't it more about the % of comment karma and link karma or something to that effect? I didn't think it was only self promotion. Either way, stupid rule.

The videos have helped a TON in the hard decision of deciding where to put my money. Thank you for the time and effort you've put into this series!
A fleet of a caterpiller, a redeemer, and 4-5 cutlasses or 325a/avengers would be one scary pirate fleet.
I would love to see this whole choosing the right ship series updated to 2018

dude, uploading videos recommending ships about piracy? i can here the UEE ringing your doorbell right now x)
Great video, Youngblood. Your synopsis of the Andromeda is exactly why I got mine. Good to know others agree with my opinion.
interesting, some of these I hadn't thought of as pirate vessels

Look for me in the verse, i'll be the pirate with the sparking power cables as hair, Edward Teach style :P
in theori the 315p COULD be a good pirate ship too, very sneaky, decent speed, you can add missile and hasa tractor beam too.
The coolest thing about the Avenger is that every time it's seen, EVERYONE is gonna second guess whether it has an EM device or not, lol
Would the mercury star runner be good for piracy? Meaby better for smuggling?
would the cutlass be a good cargo vessel? i know there are others with more storage. but this looks like it has the power to defend itself *against* pirates.
I don't think it has the storage space to a dedicated cargo ship. You'd be better off with a standard Freelancer.
yeah i ended up with a freelancer.
i changed from the freelancer to the cutlass red, because you wont make much money with it anyway and you can still hire on a large ship if you need cash really quick
docking collars have been ditched altogether by cig, they said they couldnt get it to work
nice. I have both the avenger and the Andromeda already. I am still making a decision on where I want to go.
There should be blackmarket ships that only become available after having a certain amount of pirate rep.
You're really on to something. The Andromeda is perfect for hitting hull series ships
so is there only one manned turret on the cutlass?? non for the pilot?
Haha, Cutlass - get it.
Cause pirates use cutlasses
Well I guess that answers my previous question about what I should be looking out for in my conny, turns out its other connys :P
+Lord Avitus lol, Connie v Connie dogfight is going to be epic
Or just steal little things or the whole ship if you have 2nd person with you?
a solo pirate is a dead pirate. personally what i believe anyways. i feel you need at least 2 or 3 ships and a crew on each to effectively pirate any ship worth stealing. polaris and with a super hornet on board to scare them, cat to suck up the jettisoned cargo. or sentinel with its emp missiles to disable and a cat to store loot, or mind you to cut into and board while disabled, make crew abandon ship, and steal ship with cargo still onboard would be the desired scenario as they are unlikely to just give up they probably will fight to the death before and or after boarding, so i forsee disable/board/kill being the most common practice but only because players wont give up even with the consequences of losing characters/upgrade parts/waiting on ship insurance.
join star citizen pirate hall on facebook to discuss more piracy you scallywags...yaaaar!
i do hope they will add a tiny amount of cargo to every ship (except snub fighters) even if im in a gladius, cant i but a little box under the seat or something? just so that its not enough to do any cargo work, but if you wanted to transport some space cheetos you could.
+xavier k. haberle I think I've heard them say that small stuff will be fine, like you could use an M50 (no cargo) to take a envelope as a courier service.
STLYoungblood thats nice, im happy we'll be able to carry SOMETHING.
I hope to be the future scourge of the P.U. I am trying to make up my mind between Cutlass Black and Freelancer. Would love a Redeemer But that's a little too pricey right now. I want to get this done today.
I went with the freelancer. Seems to be pretty great at a lot of things.
I look into the caterpillar again, especially what has come out of AtV, as it is much better at being a pirate ship then you think it is.
+Sir Aroun For in groups for sure, but can it chase down anything on it's own? It has a lot of nice features but speed doesn't seem to be one of them.
Will there also be privateers? I mean, can I be a pirate who fights for the "good" side and just robbs the "bad" guys? Cause that will help the law (cause the bad guys are handycaped) and I can be a pirate without having fear of the law...
Bronco Xy There is no such thing as good or bad guys. Both sides consider themselves as the good side amd the other bad.
Redeemer would make a great Boarding ship for Pirates.
I wonder how they'll address Pirate grieving. Mainly from the "victim." ex: victim ejects and self destruction ship destroying all cargo just do the Pirate gets none.
but couldn't they just capture you and put you into a slave network? and even if you commit sucide doesnt that count as permadeath?
Devin Christian
I'll probably be using a character to make some runs that are dangerous. Meaning : on that character, death is irrelevant. I bet some people will be doing the same.
kinda defeats the whole your life is valuable aspect that this game is trying to accomplish don't you think?
Devin Christian
Easily avoidable, just use "expendable" charclacters who's life is worthless to transport cargo whole your main is the one who does the deals
if you wanna buy the game twice lol
So is the Phoenix available in my hangar yet then? I have it purchased, but I have no idea when it should be there
+Th3UnluckyGam3r Last I knew yes, all conies are in hanger (don't own 1 myself so I cant check), there is 1 way you can find out for sure. Log on to RSI & try to assign it to a hanger bay
@STLYoungblood
You keep mentioning mediocre speed being a downside, but if you're a pirate, you're most likely going to want to attack a relatively defenseless target carrying a bunch of cargo, these ships, especially when loaded down with cargo are most likely going to be quite slow so I doubt ships like the cutlass will have much trouble keeping up.
That's the unknown.
very informative and excellent comments, tks again for the video.
+Jim Castor Thanks Jim.
i may do some piracy against vanduul, not sure if you consider that piracy. be fun to capture their ships
how did you get your hangar like that?
Have you done a picking the right ship for salvaging? If not, could this be something you could do please?
I think the options for this are still really limited... like one or two ships.
I wonder if you can turn a carrack or a recliamer into a pirate ship. No one would see that coming =]
how come the merlin on the connie is so matte and colorful? has that model not been updated to show the sleek, silver design the merlin currently has?
+shadowsa2b I think that was actually "archive footage". I have both the Andromeda and the Aquila and the Merlin actually is not attached to the ships anymore. It stands in front of the Conni since... 1.2 I think.
+Borengar629 correct. I no longer have one but wanted to show it
I had the Phoenix but asked rsi for refund after they changed the stats I was awesome on paper before the change now it is meh IMHO less weapons less missiles maybe better fighter? Not worth the price
Will you have to pay for all ships at launch or can you earn them?
for the love of god people need to do some research on this game, this question gets asked way too much. Look up 'pay to win' on reddit and you will see what I mean, and get your answer (it's yes btw)
You can earn all ships in-game. Buying ships now is only a way to help fund the project.
Really an Andromeda with two Avengers is probably going to be standard Pirate formation. At least that's what I would run if PXP allowed piracy.
Isn't the avenger variant going to have 2 seats?
ps. did that dude just reach out and press a button on the cutlass? Is that a new 1.3 feature?
+Kehinde Odusanya I'm not sure on the specifics of the new Avengers outside of the ewar variant. The button is an old feature from previous footage (just wanted to show the ship)
STLYoungblood O cool, I actually didn't know about the ewar.
What's with the 300 Series?
Currently, the freelancer MIS is unavaliable for purchase... so would you say that the Freelancer MISC would be a good pirate ship still?
IMO the cutlass is better, and cheaper anyway, and you don't have to deal with bad misc cockpits
I want to try piracy in Star Citizen, and I think my Caterpillar will be the ship for it. Don't ask me why :P
+MrNingaFilms I think it'll be great too, and I mention it in a quick note at the end, but it's not really what I was going for with this video. I think the Cat will be outstanding working in conjunction with a few other ships in a piracy org.
+STLYoungblood Definitely, me and some buddies are already planning to do it on a weekend out side of the legal stuff in our org
As a Oldazz Lowsec/NullSec Pirate in EvE online... Sexy Pirate Club FTW. Seems like fun ;)
How does the "melting down" process work? Couldn't I just melt it and swap for another?
+Ron Stahl I was thinking of the same thing actually...just scrap the ship, sell the cargo.
Actually, the term Marauder also implies stealing people's stuff. If you're only in it to kill people, that would just make you a regular murderer. A space serial killer.
+Gaius Baltar Fair enough Baltar...I still don't trust you ;)
I suppose it's too early to tell, but I can imagine some shady pirate rolls for the Banu Merchantman.
I imagine the merchant man will be where most pirates will do their trading if I'm imagining the merchantman correctly
Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me!
I am wondering do you think the Banu Merchantman could possibly be a pirate ship?
PS awesome video! :D
It has a huge cargo hold, enough crew for a boarding party but doesn't seem to have an overwhealimg fire power nor the speed to catch up with many potential targets.
banu Merchantman as pirate ship? 250 USD.
oh boi this comment didn't age well
is it possible to lock your ship?
Torben Andreasen no but will most likely in the future as everything is
Where would I go to get in touch with group pirates.
I would like to be a pirate. I was a famous pirate in Space Engineers, called "Imperial Remnant Pirates" in Transcend Server (no longer up) until I couldnt run the game due to old pc. Getting new one black friday.
Thrawn You could look for an organization that specializes in piracy, or you could make your own, and in that case, sign me up.
Thrawn go to the facebook group "Star Citizen Pirate Hall" its not an org group, but a place for pirates to discuss/chat/play/recruit ect
Ambush and gang ups. thats what wins fights.
5:06 - even that Avenger titan cockpit looked better than the current one like from 60ts... please rework...
Avenger.... you can have your "buddy" sleeping in the bed, and just let hijm know its time to "earn" his pay. additionally the warlock variant has a EMP weapon to shut down a ship without distroying it. food for thought. sounds like a winning strategy to me.
It's a shame the redeemer isn't a great piracy craft, cos it's pretty damn sexy. That and the fact that it has WHEELS.
+Jaeger Budgie It's a good piracy support craft, just not a solo craft for teh task.
If they make a cargo module, it could be better, but then again, the modules for the Retaliator only add 20 units each (which is bad IMO)
Where's the 325A? Cargo, speed, and good firepower! =]
Good recommendations. I definitely think the Connie seems like a strong contender.
Constellation Citizen.
The clan I'm in has more than 50 members and I've bought the Redeemer for boarding. Someone else in my clan will buy a cargo ship to clean up the booty after we capture the ship.
Fuck the law, I'll be pirating/marauding all the way. Blood for the blood god!
Oi ylad
lol you got that from the total war warhammer dlc
wait am i trippin??? i thought the redeemer just came out a year ago. and its here in 2015
Also I am not into RP since AOL chatrooms lol but it seems it would be fun here
rock on phoenix pirating :-D
But...what if i wana be a pirate, explorer and do combat with good cargo?....
+Andy Ponsonbreast does that make me a mercenary?
+Andy Ponsonbreast How about well rounded?
STLYoungblood pretty much :) Sorta a mercenary, that explores and trades, with pirating when i get someone that fucks with me...
STLYoungblood im getting way too into this game XD
my way of piracy: Retaliator with dropship module and small torpedo bay working together with Avengers. I dont care about cargo hold, because I will board the ship, eliminate it´s crew and fly away with that ship. If there will be a way to sell crew of that ship as slaves, I will do that too :) cargo+ship+enslaved crew=profit...
Cosmic Pirate for life! Take booty from bad people!
Piracy can involve stealing the whole ship, not just the cargo.
+Scott Short That's correct. I'm going to get into that more later with a building a pirate fleet video
The mustang beta has a cargo capacity of 10
+max gustafsson The brochure says 0. I'm thinking you might be able to replace the camper, but TBD. Either way, it still doesn't make a great pirate ship.
STLYoungblood the ship page has had a cargo space for as long as i can remember
+max gustafsson I know
I paid $275 for my Retaliator heavy bomber mod.
i can just imagine me and my bud YAR HAR FIDLEEEDE BEING A PIRATE IS ALLRIGHT WITH ME DO WHAT YOU WANT CUZ A PIRATE IS FREE YOU ARE A PIRATE
YeeeeAAAAAH!
Seems like there's no point to the 325a, really. The Avenger has surpassed it or matches it. I want to CCU it and get an Avenger, but my heart won't let me do it. Might just buy the Avenger as a standalone.
nice video again nice work.
+Jeff Taylor (Buck26) Thanks Jeff!
+STLYoungblood can you do one on selecting the right cargo ship and selecting the right escort ship.
+Jeff Taylor (Buck26) Both are now up in this playlist.
+STLYoungblood thanks I will watch it.
I have shared it with my organization and also told them to subscribe to your channel.
TheTyrial86 because you have to be careful if a bounty hunter detects you and your on a stolen ship u might be fried
i think having a cargo ship with an unregistered pirate and a small ship taking out the pirates is the best way to succeed because only the bad guys will be chased by the uee, not the cargo hauler selling the goods at the next node
mark my words that misc will be nerfed.
