    STL I had the same thought about the Retaliator not many people would chance attacking a military bomber not knowing if it's carrying cargo or packing heat.

  • @Aethid
    @Aethid 8 лет назад +7

    The Carrack. Fairly large cargo capacity, in a ship designed for long distance self-sufficient trips, with massive shields, heavy armor, excellent sensors, a small hangar and moderate firepower. Likely also going to have good efficient engines, and some ability to self repair (it has a repair workshop, and drone launchers, and we've seen artwork for repair drones).

    • @Lintary
      @Lintary 8 лет назад

      +Aethid Aye carrack will be my option if I need to ship stuff which is not my mail goal, but if it works it works.
      I did miss the Taurus myself though the cheap connie variant with a large hold and still some pew pew.

    • @sizosimelane

      But Carrack can’t run on a skeleton crew efficiently. It’s operation costs will be high. That is a guarantee.

    Sort of an odd duck and still in the 'Honorable Mention' category, The Reclaimer. While yes, it is a salvage ship, it also boasts size 6 powerplants and shields, 3 size 5 turrets, 4 CapShip CIWS systems, and more cargo capacity than a Hull-C. Plus given that it's a salvage ship, it's most likely built to go into very hazardous areas.

      +Robert Schumacher See, I don't think people understand the concept of a "high risk hauler"
      You're literally trying to pick a ship that stands out the most, and from what I can tell, use the ship as the defense. That's suicide. You're literally asking to get ganked.

    The beauty of this game is you have so many options there is no "best" ship for any role, it truly comes down to personal play style and skill with your chosen ship. With that said, I'm anticipating the MM to be my main cargo ship as I won't have to switch ships no matter how risky the mission and it'll carry a crapton of cargo. My second option is the Star-G......all the rest just don't seem to be able to carry enough or be tough enough and most are a combination of both shortcomings for my particular play style.

    You forgot that some of the highest-risk cargo missions will be smuggling in safe space, which the bulk Hull series can do (supposedly). Also the Taurus has that dedicated smuggling hold instead of the bottom turret. Keep up the good work!

    I was going to go with the redeemer it's already been said that you will be able to swap out the troop bay for cargo as well as the upper cargo area in a powerful ship.

    • @STLYoungblood
      @STLYoungblood  8 лет назад +2

      +Sean Tanner Once that actually becomes a thing, I absolutely agree, but until we get the rework done, I'm holding off on that recommendation. I still have some level of concern where they decide to balance the ship. It can't be a complete gunboat that also does cargo pretty well.

  • @Lvcian_Guardian

    A very personalized Constellation Taurus will be my main ship for this role and many others. I did have a Freelancer MIS for this but I have also had the Taurus since it was originally released for the same reasons, with the launch of the Prospector I swapped out that Freelancer for a personal miner...leaving all the goodies and fun to be had with my baby.

    I also own the Titan, Blue and Merchantman but my high risk transport will be the Max. If it handles in a similar way the base version does (I know, Max is heavier - especially fully loaded) it'll be a wonderful fighter for its size. It should be relatively fast and it offers enough cargo space for most special deliveries.

  • @Jasta85
    @Jasta85 8 лет назад

    @STLYoungblood
    I know you love the avenger but keep in mind that if its carrying cargo its going to be a lot heavier, which means slower to maneuver and accelerate which really puts it at a serious disadvantage if it gets attacked. Even a single other fighter sized will have an advantage due to the cargo making the avenger sluggish, and the avenger doesn't have any turret weapons to cover its blind spots if it can't maneuver well enough to engage the enemy.

  • @4life4win
    @4life4win 8 лет назад

    High risk cargo run is not always about transporting large amount of goods. Its also about getting small but high value stuff through risky sectors.
    Best ships for small volume high risk in my opinion are Reliant Base or Mustang Beta. Not too fast, but modifiable enough to fit the role.

  • @ph11p3540
    @ph11p3540 8 лет назад

    I have a Constellation Aquila and a Freelancer DUR. Both are sturdy ships. I expect to see my opponents at a long enough range to give my quantum drive enough to start up and engage to take me away from the combat zone out of detectable range. My extra sensors should detect the possible enemy ships before they detect me. Both ships have outstanding extended quantum jumbo and so my cargo should be more value blessed the further from port of origon my destination is. My ships plan on avoiding combat and out running my opponents.

    With the new turret system having these blades able to turn them into effectively automated turrets would you say that the Retaliator is now a better option than the constellation Andromeda? I'm thinking so only because 5 automated weapons on a tougher faster in a straight line ship makes more sense for cargo running then a ship that only has two turrets and forward facing weaponry. The other Factor would be the fuel cost though I'm assuming the Retaliator with its more thrusters would have a significantly more fuel consumption but how that measures against the cargo profit maybe negligible. What do you think guys?

    It can be played solo since i have funcky timetables, although it's much more fun with a co-pilot. Also the build fits my gamestyle better. I prefer to get away without fighting and the added engines and power plant make an escape more viable.

    Starfarer with 5 crew mates plus more cargo to make better profit.
    Plus 2 escorts maybe 3 to allow us to move into more dangerous jobs.
    should be fun.

    The BMM for me. It can carry a Hull-C worth of cargo, but with 8 crew and the whole back story, i expect it to be a huge ship. The back story more than anything sealed it. it will be my trader and my home.

  • @homestyle2000
    @homestyle2000 6 лет назад

    The Hercules lineup primarily the M2 and A2. M2 keeps enough cargo space for 2 Nova tanks, has improved armor and still keeps crew size low. A2 trades off cargo for more offensive features. the addition of the bombing system is a turn-off as it focuses the ship away from the original role but the added weapons can act as a huge deterrent to other ships.

  • @CMDR_Birb
    @CMDR_Birb 8 лет назад

    Phoenix / 890 Jump / Banu MM.
    Banu MM is a fast armored blockade runner.
    Phoenix is the ultimate ship in it's class in terms of stats hands down. Extra power, tougher armor, point defense system, shielded cargo ect.
    890 Jump. The ULTIMATE high risk transport imho. 5 large turrets, 2 point defenses, speed, capital class power plant / shields. CIG even says " it's ready for dozens of potential roles, from high-security trading to organization leadership to command and control." Note the HIGH-SECURITY TRADING.

    Starfarer Gemini for the win! lol. Love that ship. One of my first purchases. I have mixed feelings about the retaliator. It has the potential til be a great ship, but there need to be some changes like allowing the pilot to control some weapons. Don't forget about the newer Reliant with cargo for cheap too.

  • @mikkokaarto1802
    @mikkokaarto1802 8 лет назад

    you totally forgot about bomber series. if you replace the forward bomb bay onto an cargo hold mod, you can transport good amounts of cargo while still having some torbedos onboard. 5 decent sized turrets and torbedos, sure will make any pirate flinch when thinking of getting theyr com ship with wings of ships. One salvo from that rear torbs bay and your profits are GONE.

  • @Crit.Happens
    @Crit.Happens 8 лет назад

    I think the hornet series and the gladiator would also be good choices for small amounts of cargo because of their primary role of being a dogfighter. No one is going to scan a dogfighter for cargo.

  • @carniflexx
    @carniflexx 7 лет назад

    I would go with Carrack with the modular bays switched out for cargo over banu merchantman for a dangerous run. It has decently small crew requirement compared to merchantman and seems to be carrying only about quarter less cargo while it (at least currently) seems to be very strong shield plus strong armor and the main thing which is in my opinion important is the extra strong sensor suite which means you should be able to see threats before they see you. It also seems to me than none of the larger vessels are actually capable of outrunning a dedicated fighter craft as for example, Andromeda top speed is currently 100 m/s and afterburner speed is 200 m/s meaning that several fighters are faster than it is even before using afterburners.

  • @jimsamide7100
    @jimsamide7100 7 лет назад +1

    I really don't agree with the minimizing of the Freelancer MIS. It is probably the best option for high risk transport because it can also travel through small jump points. If you want a solo transport that can have several "Fight or Flight" options the Lancer mis is in my opinion the most solid option.

  • @heroruls

    how abound Genesis Starliner its fast it has good shields and it can carry a good bit of cargo and its long range and has lots of powerplands to pus those engines to max fore a long time I think many people even forgot about this ship sure its not packs a lot of firepower but fore running away it seams perfect ben did even said that we will be able to increase the cargo space by removing the passengers seats and sleeping space

  • @TheDistortedcreation
    @TheDistortedcreation 8 лет назад

    just wondering why you don't like the Carrack for a cargo ship. Yeah I get it its more of an exploration ship but with the 3 modular drop pods we may be able to switch those out for cargo bays. Also the hangar on the top could be outfitted for cargo but I would probably keep it for an attack ship. Also, have we found out what we are going to be able to fit in there as far as ships? it looks like a super hornet would be right at home in there in my opinion but I would really like to hear your thoughts or if you have heard/seen anything that tells us otherwise.

    Edit: With the help of someone elses comment + google, I have learned the ship name, Banu Merchantman. Looks nice :)
    I'm rocking the Freelancer right now, just the stock model, but when the game does come out, I plan on making a ton of credits to save up for something. Wasn't quite sure as to what, but that ship at 6:00 sounds right up my alley. (Had a hard time understanding the name, Banyer Merchant?) I kind of doubt my ability to dogfight, especially against all those people with the ... hotas? I think they're called? The stick and thruster peripherals. I still don't even know how to fire my missiles yet lol, so I'm feeling a little outclassed. Also people practice the arena commander stuff quite a lot, make credits, etc. I'm all about the passive and co-operative play styles. So if I had a good chance of escaping with that thing, I'd be pretty happy.

In your video, u said "the freelancer max will have better shield, because better power plante" but in the spec, it's lower... I think that the smaller ships are probaply the safest alternative for high risk transport. In particular the 350R should be able to outrun any opposition if the mechanics remain as they are while carrying a small amount of high risk cargo.
    The best mix between speed and cargo seem to me the Mustang Alpha, Avenger and the Reliant. They can load a decent amount of high value stuff and still double as fighting ships that can "get away" if need be.
    With larger ships I would use the Phoenix, which can hold itself for a while in battle. Carrying high risk cargo, the higher amount an Andromeda could take doesn't seem to be the priority for me.

    • @ph11p3540
      @ph11p3540 8 лет назад

      Not sure where the cargo module will fit. Just hand bomb your cargo into the main combat mission compartment. Only downside to the Redeemer will be it's really short quantum range. Cargo gains value as a rule the further it's transported away from origon. You want a ship with several star systems worth of quantum range.

    • @ph11p3540

      Survival is a multi discipline concept. The Redeemer happens to have armour and fire power when it gets ambushed. Other disciplines of survival is detection of would be ambushers and being able to outrun them before they have a chance to come after you. I just happened to choose the later 2 options plust I get the extra range and cargo handling qualities to remain competitive as a merchant or strategic fleet supply service.

    Assuming I can get enough NPCs and or players with some high value cargo, I'll use my Idris-M. (The Idris in general is highly overlooked for high value cargo IMHO) While it is a frigate now, back when it was a corvette in the "Idris Corvette Revealed" post on the RSI site about 3 years ago it was stated as the following: " Idris’ are used by long-range explorers who plan to be as many as two dozen jumps from a refueling station and as armored merchantmen by concerns needing to move goods through pirate territory. The high pricetag keeps the Idris out of range of anyone usually operating Freelancers or Starfarers, and actually makes them something of a target for higher caliber pirates, who presume that anyone who owns one has something worth protecting."
    While the Idris won't always be my go to ship for dangerous cargo hauling, it will be if the cargo is worth it. And I think that is where it will shine.

      +Gundam I know, I just didn't want to recommend the Idris or Javelin based on price and super limited availability. In game though, it will be great, depending on the crew requirements and operating costs. It may be more cost effective to use something else.

    • @gundam4730

      +STLYoungblood fair enough. In retrospect, given that the Idris and up will be more limited hulls in the PU. I don't think people will be looking at them primarily that way ether. Also, since CIG hasn't even flushed out cargo yet. A lot of this is guess work and I would bet that we may end up seeing a shocker for when it comes to this roll. The mustang omega comes to mind with it's 10 cargo and fast speed as more of a "out run everything" high value cargo ship.
      But in the end we are all going to have to wait and see. =P

    If the Genesis Starliner comes in a cargo variant it will be scary fast (4 x TR7) and have 2 Size 7 shield in addition to 6 Size 7 power plants. Holy Crap.

    I have been considering getting one of the Star Citizen packs, but I would like to know a few things first.
    How complete is the game right now? Is it worth getting into it now or wait until full release? Does the game have voice chat built in? And does the game world feel as boring as Elite Dangerous? Basically, is there more gameplay than space trucking and bounty hunting? And do the larger ships have a purpose beyond roflstomping the same things you were fighting in the first ship you had?
    Can you buy new ships in the game now or do you have to spend money on them?

    • @Todestelzer
      @Todestelzer 8 лет назад

      SQ42 will be ready this year (single Player). Persistent universe is still under development till early 2017. You can play some parts of SC now but it's not a finished game yet.

    • @Silamon2
      @Silamon2 8 лет назад

      +Todestelzer Yeah, I realize it is still in development, would you say it is worth getting into the early access now? Or just wait for the release?

    • @yoski203
      @yoski203 8 лет назад

      +sephirothdawn2 i dont think you loose anything by waiting, theres not a lot to do right now.

    • @Todestelzer
      @Todestelzer 8 лет назад

      +sephirothdawn2 I would wait for playing it but you can buy it today and have some fun. If you buy now you can buy ships too. After release you will not able to buy ships with money anymore.

    I'm not sure if most of these ships would be viable for "high risk" transports, especially the SF. High Risk means that there's
    1: Some either illegal or real expensive shit in the back
    2: And EVERYBODY knows about it
    So you need to move fast, and quiet, or fast with a LOT of friends. That means the SF, Carrack (probably), Any slower hauler, etc. is out.
    Any small fast hauler (Reliant, not sure how you missed that) would work. Any fast ship for documents or real small articles, say a racer or scout would work too.
    The BMM has been described as a Blockade Runner, so It'll probably be the best for larger high-risk hauls.

    It's not going to work without a team, but the Idris-P is going to be pretty killer at carrying large loads into dangerous areas.

    I used to be a huge fan of the Avenger as well but now I'm not so sure because it really feels like every patch that comes out just sort of slightly needs it a little bit, and over time it's lost a lot of agility and speed (last time I checked it was about as fast as the Hornets) and was weaponry that's really not that amazing. On top of that if you read the original description of the ship, it's described as a ship that relies on being able to take damage, and right now i wouldn't say the Avenger has noteworthy capabilities to take damage.
    The only way I see the Avenger keeping up with time is if you're replacing the ball turret with a fixed Apocalypse Arms Revenant gatling gun or something, and with whatever s2 weapons happen to be OP that particular patch of the game on the wings.

    • @narthesis9273
      @narthesis9273 8 лет назад +2

      +Hobo G There are different flight modes. In standard flight the ships computer limits speed to prevent fatal g-forces killing the occupants. Cruise mode is much faster but your turning ability is drastically reduced (again, g-forces). And then there is Quantum drive, which can traverse a solar system in minutes but you cannot turn at all. There IS an upper speed limit and each ship has it's limits in each mode, adjusted for balanced game play. There needs to be some balance between realism and play-ability.
