    Imo A big worry for SC is people buying ships before release, and missing out on a strong sense of progression in the game. I want an avenger so badly but I would love to grasp the basics and space truck for a bit in my aurora, make the money for it in-game. Anyone else?

    • @Kevlar-78
      @Kevlar-78 7 лет назад +11

      I thought the same thing and then made the mistake of buying more ships. Now I have way more than I wanted. I may melt everything and start with a pile of resources and / or UEC and my Aurora. I feel like I've robbed myself of progression and taken away some of the incentive to play. I keep saying "I will keep the ships and only fly my Aurora " but ...... yeah that's a lie.

      I hear ya did the same thing all I wanted when I singed up was a 890 jump and now have 7 ships lolguess ill just hve to earn my 890 tho so that will b my sence of progression lol

      I bought a few ships but mainly to fund my dream game, I have made the decision not to use any of my extra ships in game until I have made enough credits to actually pay for them and I will give the credits to my org then use the ship. Because yes I feel that you definitely need progression in the game.

      I think that's entirely a decision that people need to come to by themselves. A good example would be me, I don't have a ton of time to play, but am lucky enough to have a pretty good job that allows me to buy some of this stuff now instead of later. So for me, that job that allows me to buy the ships also takes away a lot of gaming time (not including family), so I get to do what I want in game when I actually do get to play. I can still buy other ships, or most importantly, start upgrading all of them since most are coming pretty far from maxed out. It's an individual situation.

      Benjamin Sando Well i bought a Carrack because the game for me isnt only about obtaining ships? The game has a lot of aspects and for me it is exploration.... I love the Carrack and the fact that i from the start can head out with friends and explore planets and systems.
      People often forget what this game strives to be...

    Keep in mind, we're still in Alpha, so the playability of the game isn't perfect. Once 3.0 drops (probably in July), things will improve drastically from a performance perspective, not to mention really getting the ability to haul cargo, pirate, bounty hunt, etc.

      I was talking about upping the f7c, so if you wanted to add a canard below, you can and get 6 weapons, but for the most part, 1 s3 is better than 2 s1

      I absolutely love the sabre. Flies somewhere between the gladius and hornet, has a ton of firepower, plus some stealth mechanics that aren't really being used yet. There will be some range issues, but I think we've gotten it close to final product and am very happy with it.

  • @streetwind.
    @streetwind. 7 лет назад +92

    I usually enjoy our videos, but with all due respect, I think this one misses the point almost entirely. And I believe I'm qualified to say this because I am one of those 60% of people with just a basic starter ship.
    The main thing that's missing here is an actual understanding of the reasons people have a starter ship in the first place. Your point of view is a completely different one, so you don't appreciate, or maybe even realize, those reasons. It becomes immediately clear at the start when you make the assumption that Aurora owners are probably opting for the LN by default. I'm afraid to tell you: no, we don't. The number of people who buy a starter package with an Aurora, then immediately go and upgrade that Aurora to a LN, and then never buy anything else again is likely going to be insignificantly small. If I were to guess, I'd peg it at less than 5% of new Aurora owners. And here's some reasons as to why.
    - 1.) Origin of the package: some of us are original Kickstarter backers. We supported the project then because we wanted to see it come to light as a matter of principle. But we haven't really touched it since then. Some of us haven't even ever installed the game. We'll get back to it when it actually delivers what was promised on Kickstarter.
    - 2.) Purpose of purchase: some of us are Wing Commander fans and actually just want Squadron 42, which for a long time was part of the starter package and even today still requires getting one anyway (IIRC). So we bought that, and got Star Citizen access along with it, but we're not interested in playing Star Citizen other than "eh, I guess I'll check it out casually when I'm done with 42".
    - 3.) Gifts and trial purchases: Some of us got their starter package gifted to them by someone who thought we'd be interested. Or, because we were interested and/or our friends were already playing, we bought a package to at least check out the current Alpha build. Maybe for some of us, this resulted in us becoming massive fans who are interested in owning many ships, and we start spending more money. But for the vast majority, this initial access is either enough for the time being, or we came off disappointed by something and determined that SC is not for us, leaving a starter package equipped player idling around in the database that will never upgrade because it will never be played again.
    - 4.) The bang for buck problem: As CIG always points out, the current ship prices are not indicative of ingame ship prices. Ships right now are massively over-expensive, because the cash offers are intended to be for people who wish to give CIG additional money to fund the development process. Not only is this fact not mentioned in the video (which in a video with this topic is absolutely required, IMHO), but it also explains why a very large number of people isn't upgrading: because it just isn't worth it. There is no ship upgrade purchase available right now that strictly speaking makes financial sense. You could get several fully finished, fully featured triple-A games for the price of an Avenger Titan. You could get a whole new gaming PC for the price of an expensive ship. This means the number of people who are willing or able to pony up this kind of money is going to be reduced, even among fans of the game.
    - 5.) Early in development: most of the game systems are not implemented yet. Although CIG has made statements of intention, no battle plan ever survives its first battle, as they say. Everything is in flux, features will change. Even advice videos like yours rely on at least 50% conjecture and the community's general consenus thereof. Therefore, buying a ship now is a risky investment. Even among those of us willing to spend the money, there is a segment that is simply waiting with their purchase until the game hits Beta status.
    - 6.) Cash shop psychology: So far, I've brought up arguments why people might not upgrade their Aurora to a LN. But what if they decide to do so - then what makes them stop there? There's an interesting penomenon that you can see in many cash shop based games: the number of people who spend just a little money is smaller than you think. There's a fairly big divide between people who don't spend at all, and people who are comfortable spending more. If someone buys a ship upgrade for their Aurora, chances are they're not going to go for a LN. They're probably going bigger while they're at it. Or, they might buy and keep their Aurora LN, and then buy additional ships on top of that. Perhaps they are obsessive collectors, perhaps they are convinced that their support of CIG makes a difference, perhaps they simply have that much play money and it gives them satisfaction. Point is, the number of "Aurora LN and nothing else" players is smaller than you think for yet another reason.
    I could probably come up with a few more if I spent a bit more time thinking, but this comment is already becoming an essay, so I'll stop here. Unfortunately, your video doesn't touch on any of these things, and therefore, it goes completely past the vast majority of that 60% of starter ship owners. Your video makes sense from the point of view of someone who's already used to buying ships, because that's your point of view. But it doesn't really talk to me, the starter ship owner.

    • @STLYoungblood
      @STLYoungblood  7 лет назад +13

      Streetwind wow, long post. I think you're missing the point too. This is about helping people to progress in game, not by making purchases now, regardless of why they chose to start with only one entry level ship. In fact, that has very little to do with the purpose of this video. Can you clarify because I think one of us is missing something.

    • @streetwind.
      @streetwind. 7 лет назад +8

      Thanks for your reply! Maybe I misjudged the purpose of the video then. I just felt while watching it that I would be the kind of person it should apply to, because I have a starter ship. But at the same time, I didn't feel it was addressing my position, because the decision of whether or not to actually buy an upgrade is a complex one with many factors, so my upgrade path going forward would be influenced at least as much by those factors as it would be by something like my desired role in the game.
      So that got me a bit confused and felt misunderstood. If you meant this video as more of a guide on how to develop your ship in the actual future game, then I can see how it can be general advice. But you specifically talk about RL cash prices and setting yourself up for day one, so that sounds like the video is more of a cash shopping guide than a game progression guide.

    • @Prom591
      @Prom591 7 лет назад +3

      He is talking about upgrading ships, with in game currency, in the PU. Not spending real money to upgrade.

    • @STLYoungblood
      @STLYoungblood  7 лет назад +11

      I think the disconnect is that I'm talking about all of this in game. So it does apply to you from the perspective of you're starting the game with just a starter ship, so once you start earning credits with that ship, what should you upgrade on that ship to help make it better, and to help you be more effective in making money, so you can then earn that next ship in game. This is all in game advice, not IRL money.

      Streetwind- Longest comment record, here we come!
      I agree with the other people that it is more of a future game guide and I see why you thought that it was a big cash spree video.
      I do think that most people with an intention of playing the game decided it was worth the five bucks from the mustang or ten from the MR.
      Props for the long comment and no harsh feelings, see you in the verse.

    As far as combat, I am pretty set with my Starter Alpha, Aurora LN, Aegis Sabre, Warden, and Retaliator. I picked up the BMM on this last sale die to the price and the stated size increase. Going to flying solo so my BMM will be flown in controlled space.
    Think I am going to upgrade my Alpha to a DUR, thanks to this video, would like an Exploration option.

  • @idemus168
    @idemus168 7 лет назад

    I think it's important to note, that if you want to never get to your destination and only fire at your enemies when they fly past you, get the Aurora LN. All of the Auroras are sluggish, but the the extra firepower slows the LN down even more. The firepower is fairly good for it's class if you can get a beat on your enemy, but that's hard to do when many of the ships you are fighting are twice as fast (no exaggeration).

    1.8 million accounts doesn't necessarily mean there are that many accounts with a game package. It just means there are 1.8 million currently registered accounts regardless if they purchased the game.

    Great video, I can't wait till we can buy ships with in game currency. As of right now I'll stick with my mustang alpha, now that I learned how to use it in combat against AI and players, and experiment with different weapon load outs, this video helped with deciding how to effectively upgrade my alpha.

    With regards to cargo, the Freelancer Max currently lists for $140 and 123 SCU. The plain Freelancer lists $110 and 52 SCU. I would go with the Constellation Taurus which lists $150 and 243 SCU. Think of the Taurus as a super Max for barely any more cost. I say lists because things are changing and the new stats are not up yet, but I expect they will be soon. Also, I will always keep a second ship around for the same reason I keep a spare set of armor and weapons in the bank. You never know when you might need to start from scratch and taking a job as a steward on a passenger starliner or working as a longshoreman to save up enough to get a ship seems like a pain.

    • @HobbiesRfun
      @HobbiesRfun 7 лет назад

      I'll stick with my base Freelancer. I'll be starting this game as a solo player, and as nice as the Constellation Taurus is, it's a little too much ship for one person to handle.
      The base Freelancer hauls enough cargo to make a pretty decent profit, but is small enough for one person to handle if he or she run into pirates, and I imagine a base Freelancer takes a lot less time to load and unload, than the Conie. Time, along with cargo capacity will play a big factor in the amount of profit you make. The faster you load, the faster you get to your destination, and the faster you unload, the bigger profit you'll make.
      To make the the big money hauling, I'll probably be traveling through areas with pirates and tightly packed asteroid fields. Trying to pilot a big slow Conie solo in these areas may be a frustrating experience, while it's not much of a problem for my smaller quicker Freelancer, which already comes with a pretty impressive weapons package for a small cargo hauler.
      Btw, I'm not trashing the Conie, or saying it's bad, or saying you personally shouldn't buy it. It looks like a great ship, if you have a group of friends playing the game, who'll help crew, load/unload, maintain, and contribute to the cost of operating it. The Conie is obviously the ship for you or anyone who will be multi crewing when the game comes out.
      With the economy changes coming in 3.0, a person doesn't want to bite off more ship than they can chew. The bigger the ship, the slower and less agile it'll be, meaning an easier target for pirates and other hostiles, and the more it's going to cost for fuel, operation, and repairs. These are things a solo player has to keep in mind when choosing a cargo hauler.
      .

    • @HobbiesRfun
      @HobbiesRfun 7 лет назад

      Caterpillar is a cool looking ship too, and I wouldn't mind owning one, if I had the money, and knew some other players that would be willing to help crew it. Btw If I came across as argumentative, or sounded like I'm putting down big ships, or your choices of ships to get, I apologize, and this is not my intention.
      It's just I have to be careful how big of a cargo ship I get, since I'm the one that will have to load and unload the thing, pay the fuel, and maintenance costs, as well as fly it in places that may not be so friendly. If I'm in a big ship, with multiple crew stations, trying to manage all that when i'm being attacked by pirates, it could end up in a very frustrating experience for me.
      This is why I like my Freelancer so much. It's big enough to haul quite a bit of cargo, but still reasonably sized for one person to operate.
      Along with the Caterpillar you mentioned, another large multi crew cargo hauler that looks cool is the Starfarer. If any one has a Caterpillar, Starfarer, or Constellation, I would be more then happy to help crew them once in a while, even if I'm just a turret gunner.

    I love SC and wabt to try every role, every ship. To buy them all before the game release means to ruin plenty of gameplay, like the Complitionist pack does. But i consider it a good deal to pick the big money-maker ship like Hull-C/D and earn every ship in game with no problem. Hope the buying process for very limited ships or alien ships will include some good quests or ingame experience, like visiting the Banu bazaar and fighting out those discounts for the new Merchantman!

    best idea is buy cheap LTI anything and upgrad it to avenger or reliant . AAnd basic ships for those who will be goons on the ground or in the crew. And if you dont want to spend money - mustang is best choice - because of gimbal and sturdines - aurora just dies, mustang has ejection and not dies but looses parts - engines. wings, glass and it can hurt better then aurora and has same cargohold

I built a whole new computer just for this game. I bought a Warthog HOTAS just for this game. Yet I still only keep the Aurora. I want to progress.

    Im going to drop a few thought after watching your video.
    amou8ngs the starter ship the mustang Beta is from my knowledge the hands down best explorer also having a bed is of great value and the kitchen+bathroom will probably play some kind of roll in game (mostly that when you log out and then back in you will be where you left and not auto returned to closest space station... this will probably reset your exploration progress).
    also on the hull series im not sure but I dont think all of the Hull ship at full cargo can´t make planet landing becos of weight.
    I know that the freelancer will always be able to land and take of(presumed its not in critical condition) the hull series not so sure some but all of them.
    also the Aurora would be the best option if your ever find your self delivering cargo during a hot drop.
    Hot drop is when you land and take off while under enemy fire(like on a battleground).
    as the Aurora can fly in fast and steep slowdown and drop whit out even touching the ground then take off and be safe.
    (also been small helps and you dont need to find a large landing spot any street will do).
    //PS when 3.0 comes out I will see if I can turn a Aurora cargo-pod into a improvised torpedo that could also use the same tactic to provide CAS fire on ground targets by just frankly literally drooping a piano on them.
    the Avenger is probably going to be faster and but you need a safe landing pad as you will be sitting there while you or your friend hauls/pushes the crate down the ramp and off the ship close the ramp and then you can take off.
    Freelancer... I wouldn't even try a hot drop whit a Freelancer also as huge as the Freelancer is your going to be limited in option on where to land plus your a huge target for AA and anyone whit a gun.
    the thing whit cargo is that any of the 3 ship I just talked about have there uses in different situation also the Hull series as much as it can transport a full cargo of dirt and sell it for a profit... well its fuel cost is probably massive compared to the other ones so you might find that a hull series isn´t netting you that profit you was expecting.
    fuel and maintenance will be a mayor player.

  • @DanyF02
    @DanyF02 7 лет назад

    Pretty sure it's no longer true that the Hull-B can also land while fully loaded. It was mentioned somewhere in the forums, and just look at it, it loads stuff under it, no way it can use a landing gear then.

    I decided to keep the Aurora LX in my package because I feel that LX has a bit more character than the firepower-centric LN.

    I frankly think only the Cutlass Black and Freelancer are good upgrade choices, as both are basically larger jack of all trade ships that sound like will be cheap to operate and easy to make credits playing.
    Specialization should not be to people who didn't even try the game. And until release none of us did. So specialized ships should only be considered by those who want multiple ships.

    Okay so I been researching and I know what I want to end up with but my problem is mapping out the progression path. From starter to end. In my case I want two ships ultimately. The Freelancer and the Super Hornet. I know I can out right buy them but what if I want to start from a starter package and work my way up to them in game? How do I do that? Do I need to buy two starter packages? I assume there is a in game way of doing it but I haven't figured that out yet since I don't play yet. I'm planning on jumping in when 3.0 goes live because I think it will have enough to interest me then.

      It's honestly hard to tell as the cargo units aren't as fixed as they appear from my understanding. The titan should have more capacity but it is unclear by exactly how much. That being said the avenger series of ships are amazing to fly and you will love them. They are an upgrade on every point. Better weapons, better engines, better in flight, better at everything. The avengers are a flat out solid upgrade with no trade off... But they do cost more money and can be purchased in game, so that should be considered.

      Did you upgrade to avenger titan? If so did you purchase or upgrade within game. I'm pretty new to SC and have mustang alpha and aurora mr which I mainly use. Wondering if titan is a good next step up for doing a bit of everything at the moment?

  • @johnboyd9713

    Not enough people talk about the Hull A or B. If you just want to start making money as fast as possible at launch, I think the Hull A is the best around by far. Even post trade-monetization nerf in the recent patches, a cutlass black or freelancer can make you quite a bit of money very quickly. The Hull A will earn you money very quickly as long as you don't risk everything on a single run (IE going bankrupt buying cargo) since it hauls more than both of those ships combined, doubled for a significantly smaller investment. Buy the Hull A now and use it to earn money in game for literally any ship you want. Plus, unladen, it might be plenty of ship to simply travel around for FPS missions and anything that requires you to get out and hack or perform some other non-ship-combat related task. I am strongly considering CCUing my LTI Hawk for a Hull A for launch for just this reason.
    However, I would bet launch is going to be just silly with pirates and griefers looking to get started in PvP as fast as possible, so a Hull A may be an exercise in frustration for a few weeks even in "secure" areas as players might not fear crime stats as much as they should and everyone will still be under their insurance regardless of the package they bought.

    • @johnboyd9713
      @johnboyd9713 5 лет назад

      I don't know what rerolling a character will be like in Star Citizen, but if you can start over fresh like you can in elite dangerous with these ship packages in your inventory, even an Aurora can get pretty annoying if they just delete their character to reset their crime stat and go back to griefing

    Bored Elite Dangerous player here, id like to know if those upgrades you speak of in this video i.e. shields, weps, powerplant, ext. are those available right now in the current version of the game, and if so do you recommend I wait until 3.0 before purchasing a starter pack?

    • @kaskobi3657
      @kaskobi3657 7 лет назад

      Bald Vulture Elite dangerous actually had something to do in its first year of release, and this game has been in alpha for 4 YEARS and still has nothing but an extremly buggy netcode, outdated game engine and missed promises. Return to the elite safe territory. And to answer your question, no, you can not upgrade your modules yet and wont be able to in 3.0

    • @BaldVulture87
      @BaldVulture87 7 лет назад +2

      Yea you can upgrade modules in SC been able to for a long time actually... bought the game and figured it out myself... The one thing ED lacks the most is immersion. I say this not because graphics, but simply because you're always in a ship and can never get out of it(aside from rover) while I do agree 100% with what you just said, ED and SC are 2 different beasts. Games in the days of old took like 5-8 years to develop. nowadays people release games in horrible state because consumers are impatient. they see a trailer and want to play it yesterday and are willing to pay for unfinished product. All in All ED is a universe Sandbox with added features. with like 98% of the game world RNG. while SC is all hand built (to a certain degree uses Random gen). SC has actual projectile dmg, while ED uses prediction. a lot of small details like this makes SC very interesting if you're getting bored of ED.

      I don't think it's an issue. The Avenger is a great ship, but it's still pretty entry level. You have more gameplay opportunities from day one with that ship, but lots of things to upgrade to. I think you're fine.

    Whats the difference between the avenger stalker and titan

    • @Patrick73787
      @Patrick73787 7 лет назад +1

      The main difference is the skin. The titan can carry size 2 pylon mounts while the stalker carries size 3 ones. Two others ships that have just a skin and pylon mounts differences are the Gladius and the Gladius Valiant. They come from the same manufacturer.

    Hi, Youngblood: thanks for all the insight! What are your thoughts of putting an EMP module (or modules) on a cargo carrier? Like a BMM? Just something to help you get away if pirates or marauders get too close?

    • @STLYoungblood
      @STLYoungblood  7 лет назад +2

      It's an interesting thought, but keep in mind the range is very low and the EMP does impact you to some extent. Larger ships probably have larger power cycles, so you may impact yourself more than the others.

    • @guywholikesgoodmusic
      @guywholikesgoodmusic 7 лет назад +1

      Have the Stalker. I'd say it's a fairly good ship. The default gimbal machinegun is great at taking out targets close up provided you can track them well. The secondary fixed guns are a little different, as they are designed to do minimal damage, but drain the other ship's power levels. My guess is that it will be more effective for disabling enemy ships when they have a bounty hunting mechanic installed in the game. Right now they are fairly lackluster, and you will probably end up upgrading them as soon as you can for some more heavy hitting guns. Beautiful ship, maneuvers pretty well, shields are a little weak for my tastes, but they are stronger than the Mustang and Aurora. Whatever you end up rolling with is pretty much fine as it is incredibly easy to upgrade it later on. Hope this helped! Here's my referral code if you want an extra 5000 credits: STAR-JL7J-Z7C6

      Donato Tusi I don't know what pricing will be mate but I would guess from my experiance with other games, if you want the best equiptment you will have to pay, either credits or time. It wouldn't shock me if an A class, overclocked MIL-Spec power plant cost more then the hull it was being installed in.

    • @donatotusi9140
      @donatotusi9140 6 лет назад

      Leigh Devlin I would be mad. If the grind in SC is equal to or more than the grind in ED, I'm without a doubt quitting the game lol

    • @G0DALMIGHTY
      @G0DALMIGHTY 6 лет назад

      Donato Tusi I can't speak for the ED experience as I have none, however I do expect that you will be able to spend hours in a prospector mining in an asteroid belt for the credits or materials to make that next hull or ship upgrade. However I also think it will be entirely possible that you will be able to spend hours with your friends or org mates crewing an Orion chewing your way through the very same asteroids and having a great time doing it. The possibilities in the Verse will be endless. You will be able to make your own fun and probably turn a profit at the same time.

      Go to the Electronic Access shop and buy them with in-game credits. If you're a subscriber you'll even receive between 20000 to 40000 credits each month to buy items in the Electronic Acces shop. Once thoses items bought, you just have to right-click on any upgradable parts of your ships and upgrade them in your hangar. robertsspaceindustries.com/electronic-access

    • @jambo5936
      @jambo5936 7 лет назад

      How do i know if my ship can be upgraded

    • @Patrick73787
      @Patrick73787 7 лет назад +2

      +Peter Svoren, Normally every flight ready ships can be upgraded. Do you see those highlighted green spots on the ground that you click on to spawn your ship in the hangar? Those same spots are located on the different upgradable parts of your ships. If you move you mouse around your ships and touch for exemple your ship guns or shield generators, you'll see those green spots appear. Once you click on them it gives you access to an upgrade menu in which you select your items to be implemented.
      The Electronic Access shop is in fact a renting system. Every item that you buy there with in-game credits are available for a duration of 7 days. I don't agree with this time-limited policy but whatever. You will also have to know your ships specifications so that you can buy compatible items for them (dimensions, size, etc).

    • @WillGreenZilla
      @WillGreenZilla 7 лет назад

      I believe the reliant sen is a "researcher" ship with longer range and better sensors. Mako is for "news" with Omni cameras or some such (dunno what purpose this will serve later lol), and tana which is for combat with better shields, additional weapon mounts, higher power plant, etc. I believe the tana has an extra wing tip weapon mount which is disabled on the other variants (either intentional or as a bug).

      Nope. If someone buys at this point based on this video alone, without watching anything else or reading anything on their own, that's not on me. This is to provide guidance to those ready to make that first purchase, or those who have already done that and are preparing for the game's release, not to inform the masses on the progress of the development. if someone wants a video from me on that very topic, they can watch my summarize the verse series.
