Toriyama's quick and clean lineart shows just how much time he had to have put in to get that kind of confidence with a traditional dip pen. I started using one a few months ago and struggle to get lineart like that.

The biggest take away I would say for artists is - Notice how often mistakes are made, that eraser is working over time. Creating art is a process, it's rarely perfect first time. Spend time tweeking details, don't worry if it takes you several attmepts
Indeed i draw a drawing have more detail than normal it takes like 13 layers into i like how it looks like but one paper, i have to change the arm, hand, leg, head size, body size, knee and more paper is harder to judge the quality of the drawing than non paper
I would say the opposite, It is better to have confidence and trust in your abilities instead of worrying and erasing too much, because if not you're slowing down your progress focusing too much in just one drawing, if turns out bad then you can analize the mistakes to improve and move on
Indeed! Splash around and make mistakes and take what you learn from them! ✨🖌️💖 It's like trying a leap of faith with many "deaths" or "mistakes" along the way and landing perfectly the next time you try that jump!
I wish I could learn and draw with Toyotaro and Toriyama for only ten minutes, I’d go from a 4 year old’s drawing on a fridge to a five year old’s drawing on a fridge in no time at all
There's a difference between a high level expert and a master. And I forget how much I love seeing Toriyama draw, I don't get those satisfying type videos, but seeing Toriyama draw that Goku. The line art, the coloring. I love it.
It's so smooth. Like, he made Goku so of course he's mastered how to draw him, but watching how he flows with that pen and Goku appears in a few strokes is just amazing
RUclips working it's magic after the news just now, hopefully this reach out to more people so he can be recognized as someone more than the creator of dragon ball as he inspired a lot of artists
Toyotaru may get a lot of shit from people, but he deserves way more credit. To start off as a fan drawing your favorite characters to becoming an official artist drawing those same characters over 20 years later… he’s not Toriyama, and that’s for the best.
Wondering why I tell you this is you the only one who I can trust ha ....hahahahahah kinda creepy huh having someone talking to you someone you don't know
Toriyama and his stories provided several fond memories of family. When I was younger, I’d often only see my dad on weekends and we’d often see him at my aunt’s house. My brother and I would look forward to playing Budokai 3 on PS2 with my cousin whenever we could and we’d always have a blast. My brother and I would even probably be some of the only people who would enjoy DBZ Sagas on GameCube. I got back into the franchise a couple years ago and was reminded of why I fell in love with it as a kid. Toriyama was something truly special as a creator and as a person. Rest in peace to the goat of shonen
Akira the goat, toyo the master student. 2 anime artists who deserve every bit of the spot light and more they get... I look forward to the future but... RIP Akira.... you won't be forgotten.
The differences are insane, you can just tell that Toriyama is a master just by him drawing a quick body sketch with simplicitic shapes because hes just drawing his own way while Toro is copying making it way more restrained and less of a fluid experience, that doesnt make it bad though. It just means with this side by sides make it sorta unfair on Toro because just way he draws it makes me wonder what his actual art would look like not drawing to look like Toriyama.
As an artist it’s just so cool to see these different professionals working, knowing they get to work together and create great stuff. Makes me so happy
"You can never be too good for reference" is something i used to have to keep reminding myself as an artist when i struggle to draw things from memory.
Toyo is actually such a great artist, especially for someone who is left-handed. I can't wait to see him once he finally reaches his peak. Cause seeing him grow is beautiful.
An official Dragon Ball artist using his own hand for reference has me ascending. The next time my non-artist friend asks me why I do that I'm linking this video lmfao
This is my first time seeing a left-handed artist and it makes me happy because I'm left handed and I thought that left-handed were never good as a right-handed artist because i've never seen one before
Knowing roughly what old manga was like makes it much more respectable to see how clean toriyama can draw. That confidence is built from rigorous practice to ensure minimal mistakes, and sometimes on a deadline
Toriyama’s drawing sped up almost makes him look like a human printer. The effortlessness is amazing. He’s not even trying hard and still makes a wonderful true-to-form Goku in a short period of time.
I love moving aeound in strange ways and making fun poses so its always funnwhej i get to use myself as reference, especially if im animating somethinf so I'll act out a scene i want and see myself in the poses and timeline its great. I also use my own hwnds for reference qlot cause, yk, what better reference is there than the one you have full contol over
Really shows the reason as to why dragon ball was week to week while dbs is month to month. Also, referencing with your own hand is so relatable to me, lol.
The biggest difference between the two is their panelling imo. Toriyama is far more dynamic even when characters are just talking, he has a great sense of how to make panels which read well individually and flow perfectly. His fight scenes are leagues apart in how they capture movement and weight. Even if you take the two drawings captured here, Toyotaro's design is straight-on, stilted, arguably overdetailed and the pose could have come from any manga of the last 20 years, whereas Toriyama's is clean, bouncy and looks quintessentially him I would kill for a 80s/90s Toriyama version of the Super manga. Love to see what a master could do with such nonsense material.
Toriyama also worked on the art for Chrono Trigger, so it's actually really interesting seeing just how similar many of the designs ended up being to DragonBall characters. I mean, ayla is literally just android 18.
I know it's sped up but the speed with which Toriyama draws is insane. Quick sketch or not you look away from an empty paper for like 2 seconds and when you look back Goku has suddenly appeared out of nowhere
Toriyama's quick and clean lineart shows just how much time he had to have put in to get that kind of confidence with a traditional dip pen. I started using one a few months ago and struggle to get lineart like that.

Maybe for art lol
From the beginning of DBS to the Granolah arc, you can clearly see how much better he has gotten.
His artwork and story boarding/paneling have both improved
Even alot of Super Hero arc has much improved art from the moro arc the super detailed panels of Cell Max or the Orange Piccolo one
