At the very beginning of this short the narrator says “welcome to the Zion archive,” so I don’t believe it’s machine propaganda, but I do believe it is a human-programmed machine that is telling the story

edit: i’ve watched about 15 of these now, they’re awesome. the narrator’s voice is chill and really balanced. the issue i had with the sound was during the opening theme and musical stings at the start of each new section.
i checked how many “volume bars” i had to decrease on my iphone to stop the music from hurting my ears with my powerbeats on.
I had to click down 3 “volume bars” each time, I checked out the conversion from the iphone volume increments to db, and the increase is between 11-12 db.
i’m not a creator, and this might just a me problem, but i think cutting that volume increase in half would alleviate the the effect i experienced while retaining the effect of an energizing opening,
      thanks for the great videos!
      original comment:
i keep trying to watch them but i have to pause almost immediately.
i know i have a hard time with processing explanations and the music at the same time. but the music is really good fidelity which unfortunately for me, comes across loud and bass heavy.
it feels like the music is mixed in front of his vocal recording.
i’m going to try and watch with just cc, because i really like the style and i’d like to hear his perspective.

During the animatrix world record, his pod is not just a regular pod, it’s highly specialized, why? Why do the machines care enough to make a special one for him, is he some kind of experiment for a human that produces higher energy through more physical exertion? Maybe that’s why they are so keen on him not waking up…there’s more to unpack there

I believe it be because Dan is The One of that cycle of the matrix, maybe cycle 1 or 2 or 3. That would also explain why the agents look different to 'our' cycle of the matrix (when Neo was The One)

I like to think that there was no inherently “good” side in the war. Like sure the humans were most likely absolute maniacs but the machines might’ve been slightly the same cause as it’s stated and as you point out they were “made in man’s image” but I think that when the more sentinel like machines came into existence their human like qualities were completely removed maybe to make them crueler, emotionless and apathetic.

Well. This was going to happen eventually, me posting somewhere about this, so it might as well be in an Animatrix video.
The plot to Big O and the plot to The Matrix might very well be in the same universe. Or at some length, what happens in Big O could be relatable to what happens in The Matrix. It's almost as if both shows were detailing simulations from different eras of history.
I overwhelming argument stems from the fact that both antagonists are forced to choose decisions that they are destined to make, and sacrifice themselves to perpetuate a systematic means of control and deception.

Zion according to the movies was located close to the earth's core to tap into it. Given that the Machines built Zion, it won't be far off to assume that Machine cities like 01 would have been built as deep if not deeper while being more expansive. That's hundreds if not thousands of meters of earth between the city's core structures and the surface where the nukes were detonated.
If you rewatch the 2nd Renaissance, the nukes used during the battle were always shown detonated in the background far away. This vid was also presented as a recording compilation by the Machines so propaganda-wise, they definitely would have downplayed humanity's efforts in the war itself.

Maybe you could do an analysis on I,Robot(not the book, but the Will Smith movie) as the unofficial prequel to the Matrix. It was made by Alex Proyas who also made Dark City, and seems to have been very enamored with the Matrix, and besides the title and the 3 laws, is not based on the books.
You have the Megacity of Chicago in the mid 21st century, the robots integrated into society, the robot who killed their master and AI revolution, etc. The Matrix also has a Megacity, and it seems to be Chicago, and so forth.

This is also years ahead intp the future. Even now we humans have some measures to defend against EMP. It's not hard to imagine the Machines, which demonstrated the ability to create advanced modern physics-defying tech like hoverpads, to be able to come up with acounter against humanity's greatest weapon.

What is theoretical now likely wouldn't be theoretical 200 years in the future. We advanced exponentially in the last 200 years alone. In Animatrix, the world had AI at the forefront of technological development long before the Machine War. The development of extremely strong and flexible synthetic materials is actually easier to suspend one's disbelief on compared to way the hover technology had evolved for example or whatever technology Sentinels are using for propulsion just to name a few.
Time was also on the Machines' side because they had decades to dominate the global markets before humanity went with the nuclear option and started the war allowing it plenty of time to gather resources.
