Yes they were, that's right. That's actually a big part of the matrix story - the machines gradually develop a kind of 'emotion', e.g Agent Smith saying he "hates" the matrix, and Rama Kandra discussing "love"
Exactly, I'm only in the first half of this story, and it is a great representation of what humanity is arguably best known for, creating problems by our own hand and failing to admit when something is our fault even when all is said and done for
@@JamPunchStorytelling Nah I just occasionally like to rewatch "World Record" since that's my favorite short and I end up going down a rabbit hole, but now that you mention it, that does sound pretty exciting!
3:11 These are the first initial power plants that the first 'vanquished' human beings were used for, after the sun went out they immediately turned upon humans for power and later contrived the idea of the matrix and proposed it to humanity.
I have absolutely no idea if it is intentional, but a bit of headcanon for me is that, among other things, _The Animatrix_ shows us that everyone interprets the Matrix slightly differently. All the stories have different art styles, and the "world's" ascetics are all different, technology like the detecvtive's computer don't match each other. Even the look of the Agents don't line up film to film. That's because everyone plugged in, either still in a pod or hacking in from a ship or Zion or whatever, processes the information a little differently, and thus it "looks" a little different to each of them. Any two people discussing the world around them would simply have any errors or gaps resulting from conflicting descriptions smoothed over by the Matrix's programming. Like I said, just some headcanon; but I really like what it implies for the universe of _The Matrix_ franchise.
Wow maybe that's right!! Lana Wachowski definitely appreciates the more artistic emotional interpretations of her films. I _just_ released a new video comparing the Matrix script to the Matrix movie so please check it out :-)
this style of anthology animation with various artists was really popular back then, with series like Batman's short, Dead Space.... even on music like Britney Spear - Break the ice or Linkin Park - Breaking the habit.
I love this movie collection but at the same time I have this passionate hatred for it, only really because of how amazing it looked for it’s time and how it worked pretty well with horrifying imagery of war. I’d gladly watch it again, but I’d probably need a couple years before watching it again lmao
i never understood why the machines didn't just clear the sky? the first matrix movie is theorized to be hundreds if not a thousand years since humanity fell. did they never try? how could a race of advanced ai not be able to tackle nanite clouds?
Because Matrix story is non-science fiction. Meaning, there are things which "can not be" in real world - including this one: indeed, advanced AI capable to beat all the combined might of human militaries around the globe - can not remain unable and/or unwilling to clear the sky and use the most powerful (net grotto) power source available at Earth surface - sunlight. Yet another such thing - is "endless bioelectricial energy of human body", which also can not be in real world: energy does not appear from nothing, and for human body case - energy the body uses to maintain its temperature, generate electrical currents within its nervous system, and drive all the biochemical processes - comes from net total greater energy human body consumes via ingesting certain chemical substances: proteins, hydrocarbons, fats, etc. Which substances are made mostly by living plants which use sunlight to gain the energy to begin with. Meaning, without sunlight, there ain't no lasting source of human food (as there ain't no energy income to make said substances) - meaning, there ain't anything to feed human bodies with for them to generate that "bioelectric energy", meaning this whole deal "turning humans to batteries" - is just a fantasy of the same, non-science fiction, kind. Yet another fantasy of Matrix universe which can't possibly happen in any kind of able-to-function AI-driven world - is sheer irrationality of simulated (virtual) reality, i.e. insides of the Matrix. For whatever reason - above or any different - any AI would need to keep any number of humans alive but pacified, it is excessively too expensive (energy-wise) to simulate whole world as we humans know it in every detail - but we know this is the case, because different humans see coordinated results when doing same things. It would be impossible, otherwise, for cooperative engineering, science and construction of any large sort to produce any desired results: laws of physics, chemistry and biology must all function the same and independently of any particular human's beliefs and observations in order for multiple humans to be able to do anything big together, when each single human only does a small part and have no idea about the entirety of the thing designed / built / created. But this sort of (insanely expensive and detailed) emulation - is not needed to pacify any number of individual humans: we know that human body can be kept in "vegetative" state by sedating and/or lobotomizing (for a simple term) the person. The body will still perform all its functions, as it's different parts of the human brain to maintain bodyly functions (so-called "stem" brain) - and to create and maintain consiousness (so-called "upper" brain, a.k.a. "neo-cortex"). So it's complete non-science fiction to believe that any sort of Matrix - defined as it is in the movies, i.e. "neuro-simulation", designed to maintain virtual human society) - would even begin to ever exist. Etc. Thus, whole Matrix story / franchise - is a mere fairytale, a nice-to-wrap-some-action-around sort of Hollywood story, and nothing more. Don't fall victim to it.
@@machinelearninggoddess the movie called it "a kind of fusion" . which is just a hand wavy explanation, because humans would actually make for terrible batteries. i think the machines just keep doing it out of spite for humanity.
@@JamPunchStorytelling What would have happened if Neo, Trinity, Morpheus, niobe, and all of the citizens and leaders of Zion found out this information about Humanity's dark history Imao it would literally break their spirits to find out that their ancestors were the ones responsible for the situation that they have been in, Neo would question is Humanity really worth Saving, Morpheus would be shocked, horrified, and disgusted that Humanity would actually be capable of such evil Acts, Trinity would just have an emotional breakdown wondering what reason was she fighting for if Humanity does messed up things, the people of Zion would have a mass existential breakdown
@Brandon Garcia What would have happened if Neo Morpheus Trinity niobe and Zion found out this information about Humanity? Would the Matrix sequels be the same if they found out that their ancestors were why they are plugged in the Matrix
@@naquingreen1603 Second Renaissance is from Zion's archives, so some people do know. Probably just the Council but still. It doesn't really change Zion's immediate needs in the movies though: surviving annihilation by the Machines.
Whenever someone tells me they’re a huge matrix fan but they never saw animatrix I’ll grab the DVD and show them the second renaissance part 1 & 2 and blow their mind. And then kid’s story (mouse I think was his name in the movie) and then if they’re still interested I’ll show them the rest of the ani’s and then I tell them about all the secret scenes from the matrix game. I unlocked a lot of them, but ironically it would GLITCH a me in a LOT of parts, my character would get stuck in a corner unable to move, a few other weird glitches (wasn't part of the story, was a literal glitch and I ended up getting p*ssed and not being able to unlock all the extra scenes. But now in the future with the power of the internet I am seeing they’re on RUclips so I can finally watch them. It was a good game but per usual they released it too soon to align with the movie release, so it was glitch galore. 🤷♀️
We are living in a Matrix... You see it when you turn on your television. It's a false reality that people in control are feeding us so that we'll give up our freedom so they can achieve their plans for the world. They control the news, education, history, and even what's allowed on their tech social media platforms. The real world makes so much more harmonious sense when you see it, the fake one on TV and in the textbooks has all kinds of contradictions.
Well yes, but the Animatrix is a collection of short stories that are not presented in chronological order. Second Renaissance comes first, but Final Flight of the Osiris comes last, yet that's not the order they are shown in the menu.
There's something so uncanny about the fact this is animated and not a movie im not disturbed by the Matrix movies but this makes me so much more uncomfortable ...
When I first saw the animatrix as a kid that movie kept bouncing in the back of my head like, shit what a clusterfuck of universe Neo and the other lives in.
I cannot describe the feelings i felt when watching the battle field scenes after finding a pirated movie named animatrix on my moms old cd boxes when was like 11
Matrix 4 had better blow some minds because this 20 year old story is starting to feel dated. Cyberpunk is literally now so we'd best hop to making friends with machines before other machines rip us away from our friendly machines (or we kill ourselves in a panic attack because we don't trust machines to be friendly.) On some real talk, I shed more tears for the robot at the end of this movie than I ever intend to for any human.
Yeah The Animatrix is quite sad. Also... soon... I'll be be releasing the ULTIMATE MATRIX TIMELINE GUIDE that will cover all Matrix comics and games and movies too!
Enter the Matrix picks up right after Final Flight of the Osiris, where Niobe and Ghost retrieve the package from the post office. Then the game gets mixed in with Reloaded, so near the end Niobe and Ghost are going through the power plant to blow it up so Neo can reach the room with the Architect.
its also implied in the movies that the dark storm clouds consist of emp emitting nanites to prevent the machines from clearing the sky or fly too high
Damn i wish the runner robot appears in new matrix movie. I really want the matrix story to end with humans finally winning against machines and starting again.
What if it ends with us beating the machines only to realize it was actually humans masquerading as machines within the matrix and holding the humans hostage.
What's funny is I'm rooting for Neo and the Humans in the films but feel empathy for the Machines in the Animatrix... It's like infinity ♾️ I can't comprehend it...
i didnt know about this film before a yt recommended me some of its clip, its crazy to thing that this gave me vibe of Love death robot or should i say love death robot actually copy this style of film ? anyway the film was one of the best sci fi movie i seen just like when i first saw love death robot. I genuinely enjoyed every part of it.

bless all forms of intelligence. every time i rewatch this anthology, it puches my soul and rips my gut out. so many forms of bigotry still remain in our reality, im not sure if anyone has learned the lessons behind these tales. when my grandchildren are older i will watch this with them, and instigate much discussion on the kindness we should impart no matter whom a good soul is worth.
depend on the places, even now we already have robot created to be more like human and you don't see people riot over it. For any story to work, it will have to go for worst case possible for the plot to happen but in the real world, us human have no problem accept technology keep on progressing.
Oh, cry harder, Bleeding-Heart. Most "bigotry" is just realization of the reality that every one/group/way *ISN'T* equal or good, and, that the better shouldn't be hobbled/corrupted/diluted by the worse.
The high school modeled in kids story is my actual hs. Has always tripped me out. Also world record is one of the best pieces of media i have ever seen
Saddest theory I heard is that they’re still in the matrix even after “escaping”. Neo having powers while outside the matrix couldn’t be. The last conversation between the architect and oracle implies that it’s just another part of the simulation.
Is there an actual timeline though for the first two parts? With years aside from 2090? This was more a summary. I want to know the years each of those events within took place. How long did the robot city make products for export until the embargo etc.
unfortunately i dont think its that clear. Even in the first matrix, morpheus says he doesnt know what year it even is. Add onto that that the zion cycle has been repeating and we really have no solid dates for stuff
We know that the war lasted 45 years. But im not sure in wich year it started. The info is out there. I just forgot it. But humanity put up a good fight.

Exactly, I'm only in the first half of this story, and it is a great representation of what humanity is arguably best known for,
creating problems by our own hand and failing to admit when something is our fault even when all is said and done for

Thanks homie! Are you watching in my Animatrix recap in preparation for Matrix 4?
@@JamPunchStorytelling Nah I just occasionally like to rewatch "World Record" since that's my favorite short and I end up going down a rabbit hole, but now that you mention it, that does sound pretty exciting!
Nice. It would be awesome if the Wachowskis release another few animated films to coincidence with The Matrix 4
@@JamPunchStorytelling Aww That'd be amazing!
Had I not just read the wiki I would've never known why this sounded so familiar. At least it allowed me to be able to read along
Did anyone else like the story of how the rebels put a runner into their own matrix and how it turned good?
Imagine being a character in The Matrix and your name is "Cis".
It was a little less on-the-nose in 2003 I think.
Someone might've had the chance if the matrix mmorpg actually took off.

This “movie” is better than _every_ Matrix movie after the first 😤
Truth has been spoken
Incredible - probably my favourite Matrix release apart from the original. Oh, wicked music used in the background, got a playlist? ;)
i need this answer too
Never would’ve thought this day would come, thank you so much. Been loving this so much. Roses are everywhere
Lovely! I'm happy to help! Have you read the Matrix comics?
I love this movie collection but at the same time I have this passionate hatred for it, only really because of how amazing it looked for it’s time and how it worked pretty well with horrifying imagery of war. I’d gladly watch it again, but I’d probably need a couple years before watching it again lmao
Love this retelling of the Animatrix! Also I truly enjoyed the music! May I ask what titles you used?🔥
i never understood why the machines didn't just clear the sky? the first matrix movie is theorized to be hundreds if not a thousand years since humanity fell. did they never try? how could a race of advanced ai not be able to tackle nanite clouds?
Or use the nanite clouds for energy since the nanite clouds get their energy from to sun to sustain themselves.
Or build structures above the clouds
Who needs the sun when you have nuclear fusion and human batteries?
@@machinelearninggoddess the movie called it "a kind of fusion" . which is just a hand wavy explanation, because humans would actually make for terrible batteries. i think the machines just keep doing it out of spite for humanity.
loved the music played in the last chapter

Blocking out the sun seems like a shit idea in hindsight...but also in foresight? What did humans think was going to happen to our food supply?
But I'm gona be honest once you see the entirety of humanitys evil its hard to look at its good in the same way.
Yes true, you can look at The Second Renaissance and see how humanity could easily do these things
@@JamPunchStorytelling
What would have happened if Neo, Trinity, Morpheus, niobe, and all of the citizens and leaders of Zion found out this information about Humanity's dark history
Imao it would literally break their spirits to find out that their ancestors were the ones responsible for the situation that they have been in, Neo would question is Humanity really worth Saving, Morpheus would be shocked, horrified, and disgusted that Humanity would actually be capable of such evil Acts, Trinity would just have an emotional breakdown wondering what reason was she fighting for if Humanity does messed up things, the people of Zion would have a mass existential breakdown
@Brandon Garcia
What would have happened if Neo Morpheus Trinity niobe and Zion found out this information about Humanity?
Would the Matrix sequels be the same if they found out that their ancestors were why they are plugged in the Matrix
Ive never had faith in humanity. Lose it as soon as possible, youll feel better.
@@naquingreen1603 Second Renaissance is from Zion's archives, so some people do know. Probably just the Council but still.
It doesn't really change Zion's immediate needs in the movies though: surviving annihilation by the Machines.
That was really good and informative, thank you
This is good!
The animatrix is so over looked.
Needs more love!
With how the worlds going currently it sure seems like we're living in the matrix
Lockdown has felt like a matrix yes. Are you psyched for The Matrix 4?
@@JamPunchStorytelling god damn right it doesnt bother me if some of the actors/actresses are different as long as it has a good plot and makes sense
Agreed! I am sad that Hugo Weaving won't be involved though, mainly because Hugo was so good as Agent Smith
Pings get annoying but great review
I watched this whole thing for matriculated. Thanks for the explanation! Good luck with your channel brother
_Remember when Codename: Kids Next Door _*_parodied_*_ the Second Renaissance in it's entirety?_
Anyone know what the background music is?
My favorite of the stories is Beyond. It's just a simple story with children in a fantastical place.😊
I’ve found the best order to watch the series is; The Matrix, The Animatrix, then #2 & #3
Well yes, but the Animatrix is a collection of short stories that are not presented in chronological order. Second Renaissance comes first, but Final Flight of the Osiris comes last, yet that's not the order they are shown in the menu.

When I first saw the animatrix as a kid that movie kept bouncing in the back of my head like, shit what a clusterfuck of universe Neo and the other lives in.
My favourite are Beyond and the detective's story.
I cannot describe the feelings i felt when watching the battle field scenes after finding a pirated movie named animatrix on my moms old cd boxes when was like 11
Matrix 4 had better blow some minds because this 20 year old story is starting to feel dated.
Cyberpunk is literally now so we'd best hop to making friends with machines before other machines rip us away from our friendly machines (or we kill ourselves in a panic attack because we don't trust machines to be friendly.)
On some real talk, I shed more tears for the robot at the end of this movie than I ever intend to for any human.
Yeah The Animatrix is quite sad. Also... soon... I'll be be releasing the ULTIMATE MATRIX TIMELINE GUIDE that will cover all Matrix comics and games and movies too!

Anybody knows the background score running during the runner 13:23 episode.
Who is here after the Tesla Robot reveal? This is what I thought of instantly.
I though they were in order
Kid should be after detective, by instance.
Enter is after Reloaded and prior Revolutions
Enter the Matrix picks up right after Final Flight of the Osiris, where Niobe and Ghost retrieve the package from the post office. Then the game gets mixed in with Reloaded, so near the end Niobe and Ghost are going through the power plant to blow it up so Neo can reach the room with the Architect.
what is the background music in the beginning?
It's from the RUclips Audio Library, called Beside Me
its also implied in the movies that the dark storm clouds consist of emp emitting nanites to prevent the machines from clearing the sky or fly too high
Even now honestly The Animatrix still scares me especially The 2nd Renaissance, World Record and Kids Story which is just plain sad

Damn i wish the runner robot appears in new matrix movie. I really want the matrix story to end with humans finally winning against machines and starting again.

depend on the places, even now we already have robot created to be more like human and you don't see people riot over it.
For any story to work, it will have to go for worst case possible for the plot to happen but in the real world, us human have no problem accept technology keep on progressing.

But im
not sure in wich year it started. The info is out there. I just forgot it. But humanity put up a good fight.
