I love the rustler vxl 4×4 simply for how tough & how much abuse they can handle. Plus being a quadriplegic things kinda got to be easy for me to access to fix. Simplicity is key. Have mine upgraded a little so its faster & stronger 💪

I just bought the E-Revo 2.0, and was sad to see that my existing 3S batteries do not fit (too thick), so I'm waiting on new batteries to come in from Traxxas. Just another thing for people to take into account when buying these, their existing batteries might not fit as they only take the thinner packs.
It's really hard to fully appreciate the size difference on video; it's something you really have to see to appreciate. I really can't wait to get those batteries in so I can start using this beast! My Rustler VXL really couldn't handle my back yard as it's a bit too bumpy, and the chassis sits too low. I'm not planning on doing any jumping, so I'm hoping the E-Revo will hold up well.

Whats funny is that I just made a video showing how to change the chassis of the Rustler so it can use the same batteries as the E Revo.

@@outsourcedrc I saw that one too :) My issue is that my batteries are too thick and stubby (6500Mah 3S). Same ones I use for my Hoss. I also just watched the video where you put the limiting straps on your E-Revo; glad I saw that one! I just picked up the aluminum brace, and some 90mm limiting straps. Hopefully all will be in soon, and I'll be ready to rip!

To me, I think it all depends on your skill level in the RC world. If a person doesn't mind tinkering on things, and experimenting on different setups, I woujld certainly go with the erevo. But if a person wants to go out, and buy something that is easy to work on and just bash around then I would go with the rustler.

Fabuncian : Yes I would, its easy to drive, has A LOT of spare parts which is good to begin with, its easier to repair 2WD vehicles, and the car is worth its money in my opinion. If I was a beginner, I would go for the brushed version, because it will take more damage before anything brakes. Also, you could eventually switch to the brushless motor when you feel ready/experienced. The difference is huge on this car.

The revo handles better and it a lot of fun on rough terrain but man it’s a PITA to work on. The rustler is sort of the jack of all trades master of none, it can do whatever you want for the most part and it’s easier/cheaper to work on. I’d be happy with either

Many years ago, I paid over $700 on a gen1 e-revo(still bitter about the low price of the gen2). I don't have the chassis brace or limiting straps, and i'm still running the stock servos that were in it when I bought it. Every part you claimed to have to replace, I haven't on mine. I'm running much larger proline trencher tires than stock gen1(about same size as gen2), I've gone through a few rear ring and pinion gears(the gen2's are much larger so shouldn't be an issue), I broke all the stock plastic axles, and the traxxas steel axles. I'm now running mip axles and have had no issues. I also managed to break a traxxas rear spool within 5 minutes of driving in the yard.
Some of us are into the hobby because we like working on things, so the complexity of the e-revo over the rustler is a win for the e-revo to me. I bought a trx-4 crawler kit just to build, built it in a morning, have barely played with it, and am saving to buy a sport kit to assemble.
I work on full size cars both as a job and hobby, so tinkering with much smaller scale things at a fraction of the cost is enjoyable for me. When the big car breaks at the track, it's hundreds or thousands of dollars. When the rc breaks, its usually less than fifty dollars.
Also you should see dude perfects videos of them jumping an e-revo, theirs seemed to have held up fine in stock form on massive jumps.

    • @outsourcedrc

Your V1 E Revo sounds a lot like mine. I'm still running stock sevos on it.
Dude Perfect do break their E Revos. If you watch, you can see that sometimes they do things like break A Arms when they land. You can see the wheels dangling. They edit the videos to look awesome, not to be reality.

    • @cam872k3

@@outsourcedrc I personally haven't done any huge jumps. Even when I do jumps like in your video, I crank up the springs for more ride height to try to get more cushion before it bottoms out.
I broke an a-arm shortly after buying mine, but it was because I hit a curb at an angle where the arm contacted the curb directly, I replaced the arms with rpm ones.
I'm glad you did this video, as I am considering getting a gen2 revo, or a rustler 4x4. I want both, but the boss is in charge of the money, and she won't let me buy both at once. I tried telling her that it would be hers, but she wasn't buying that.

Revo has upgraded axles, has a nice hex design for the wheels, they wont ever circle out like several of my stampede wheels did. Revo can take 3s lipos alot better than the stampede. Revo is bigger and bigger is definitely more fun. Especially that tire size for off roading and snow. So more ground clearance if you stiff up your shocks

Linkage shocks also change the leverage the shock has over the suspension based off travel position. Meaning you get a softer shock and spring in the beginning and it hardens up before it bottoms out. Motorcycles have used this for decades.

How do both compare in doing turns?
I wasn't thinking about doing flips before. But after watching your videos, they look like they can handle it. Will it be safe to do some jumps and flips, like on your small ramp? Or will things break? I don't want an item that requires heavy maintenance.
