I feel like the worst part about Chyenne's story was how she covered for him. It makes me believe she was groomed into thinking her situation with him was okay. No child deserves what she went through

I think with child abuse the child often can become a "co-conspirator" with their abuser in order to keep on their good side and also out of their own feelings of guilt about "allowing" it to happen.
@@Roadent1241no that's not it he's groomed her she genuinely tthinks she believes they have something really special and other's won't understand their love because that's what hes told her over and over it has to be kept secret this is how child predators work it's all part of the grooming process its basically brain washing I was 13 when the same thing happened to me I really believed my abuser loved and cared for me what we had was special I looked forward to those moments even though I knew somehow this wasn't normal what he was doing when it came out for a long time I never told people that I thought I wanted it because society thinks children instantly hate what is happening and although yes that is very much the case especially in the beginning the longer the abuser has to keep abusing the more he's able to brain wash the child for years I thought I wasn't normal added to the feeling of guilt and that I deserved it one day I was talking to a couple of survivors of long term child abuse and one said they had the same feelings suddenly I knew I wasn't alone through extensive counselling I've learnt I was a child he was the adult he manipulated me into thinking that way and I shouldn't feel shame for thinking those thoughts I was a child he put those thoughts in my head he made me think we had something special just to satisfy his sick kink that's exactly what is happening here with this child as someone who went through that I knew exactly what she thought she was doing was protecting their special relationship 😢
It’s so frightening how many children are living in a home like that of Cheyenne to some degree and often times there’s nothing done for them until it’s far too late. RIP Cheyenne
Nick forgot to mention Cheyenne’s school already suspected sexual abuse.. it was her step dad who was delaying a CAC interview. And when cheyenes best friend was interview by the police she just said “she’s dead”. And also cheyennes grandma lived next door, literally and her grandma knew about the abuse
It’s so awful, I can’t even imagine! I don’t often cry at videos like this cause I can usually turn my emotions off but I did when her case came along and he showed that video.. Just thinking about how many kids go through this and have no one to help them, my heart breaks for them. I was around her age when this happened, she really seems like such a fun sweet kid that I’d love to have been friends with. I remember even making goofy videos similar to hers around that time so I’m sure we would’ve gotten along well.. RIP dear Chyenne ❤ I hope the guilt is eating away at him and other prisoners hear what he did so they can give him what he deserves!
Crimes against children is so unforgivable. My best friend was murdered by his father when we were 9 years old. There is a special kind of hell for these people

Which is why courts have transitioned to working with the families to provide better and more stable homes. There's no magic farm up north ran by billionaires for kids. It's this: abused in foster care, abused in juvenile hall, abused in squalor or abused while homeless. Go open up your house for foster care or at least try to convince representatives to spend less on prisons and bombs and more on social services.
So basically, the reason why Chyenne "disappeared" was because Terry developed an attraction to her and realized that he would eventually be caught, so he took the most extreme route. What a sick bastard, good riddance

I wish more people knew that schizophrenia and other mental illnesses very often present in the early 20s for people who were otherwise completely sane until that moment. If anyone had recognized the signs in Austin's behavior and gotten him the help he so clearly needed, a tragedy could have been prevented. RIP, that poor couple.
@@Henry-yf2np People who knew him personally noticed a drastic personality change, and the comparison between the several videos of him hint at that. Apparently he was also hallucinating, to the point where he wasn't sleeping at night. Wouldn't really consider all these events as presenting normal.
Yeah, his sister even started locking her bedroom door at night because of how drastic his behavior changed. He was also aware to some degree that things were not right with his mental health and he performed multiple internet searches on signs of schizophrenia and symptoms of psychosis. His parents were fully aware of everything going on, and they 100% failed this young man. The deaths of those poor people are heart wrenching. Their family was so angry with Austin's parents because jail phone recordings released show that Austin's father was absolutely heartless, he blamed the victims, he was extremely callous. Austin's father appears to have ignored all signs that Austin was deteriorating for months, and it's been suggested that because he is an affluent man in the community, he was far more concerned with the optics of a son with mental illness than he was about getting his son any help. There is so much more to this than any of us know, I'm sure. It's such a tragedy in so many ways. It didn't have to happen.

@@RobbieAmerican No he did show remorse. He is also genuinely horrified at his actions if you listen to the phone calls with his dad after he’s arrested you can tell he truly was not himself during the attack and he has nothing but remorse and guilt for it.
Nick forgot to mention that Austin's mental health issues made him believe he was a horse, and later on a dog. He also believed he was invincible, genuinely thinking he'd survive walking into fast-moving traffic.
Mr. Ballen does an amazing job with this story imo. The perspectives, the mind set, everything. Genuinely one of the best ways I've seen a story like that be told.
Austin's story is absolutely horrific and heartbreaking, even just thinking he has to live with the knowledge of what he did for the rest of his life. A detail you left out was that he screamed to the officers 'please help, I'm eating people!' as if part of him was aware of what his psychosis was making him do, but he couldn't stop himself. I sincerely hope he finds some peace.
During my psychotic episode i had seconds of clearness before "going under" again, its like a profound moment of realization best described as the most intense for of post nut clearity ever. But the time spent in the clear is so short and confusing you cant really react to it.
He most likely needed a legit high priest, he was possessed. He was way past skitz or any mental health illness, he was fighting full blown possession of who knows what.

@DeZenter Yes it is. Every child deserves to be cared for and loved by, but the world is cruel and there are people out there that are not fit to care for children. Therefore kids deserve loving parents and trashy people don't have the right to raise a kid unstably.
As someone that's been abused and has friends that have been abused/SAed by a parent... I knew immediately what Chyanne was going through. The immediate change in behaviour, the warning, the flinching... It's all too familiar. That poor, poor girl.
I’m not too familiar with abuse victims but she seemed like okay if that makes sense. She wasn’t shaking or anything, it’s almost as if she was trying to hide the fact that her stepdad has abusing her or there was something between them. I also don’t get how the stepdad and the boyfriend of the mother lived together. I truly believe Chyanne was being neglected by her parents and guardians.
Chyennes story helped me overcome my own SA by the hands of my step dad that lasted 10 years. I was doing my best to keep things peaceful while he tried to keep me for himself. We loved watching these creepy videos, but one night he fell asleep during this particular video, and i almost started crying during Chyennes' story. I realised what my sick step dad was capable of if he thought i was going to "betray" him. I tried to be peaceful and end things without any issues, but he made it clear he was never going to stop obsessing over me. He was doing fine, but then he installed a camera in the house without my knowledge, and that was my biggest fear, being constantly watched and unable to escape him, even when he wasnt around. Before he could hurt me further, i reported him finally. He ended up taking his own life when he realised i was not going to be under his control, and i was devastated, but in that moment, it was his life or mine. I know Chyenne is in a better place, her storybeing told helped me find the strength ti end the abuse, abd i hope others will escape their own abuse too

I dont recall anything bad before hand, he was actually a good father. I'm struggling to understand why he waited until I was an older teen

Not justifying his behaviour, but I recognize these factors more recently, that helped me understand he was not going to change

The idea that someone could just snap like that is terrifying, yeah. To me though, the fact that he knew what was happening and didn't want to be doing it, but couldn't control himself.. That's 1000x more terrifying, because sudden-onset violent schizophrenia like that... no one is safe from it. It could happen to you or me tomorrow. And then I'd be the one who spends the rest of my life thinking about that time I ate a dude for no reason.
That last one was genuinely so... Terrifying. I have struggled mentally, and seen people struggle mentally. Ive laid there and cried because I could feel myself slipping and I was scared. Personal beliefs aside with his case, he should've been getting help way way sooner. So sad

Now, the couple didn't deserve to die obviously, but Austin was probably having hallucinations and "visions" which is very easy to see as being Schizophrenia. A friend has told me now, 5 years into being friends, that her mom is seriously Schizophrenic and that she's not good with new people. It's why he told me not to go to his parents house unless his brother, dad, or himself are there. Simply because she takes medicine a few times a week for her Schizophrenia, but if she forgets to take it she can start to hear the voices and delusional thoughts.
I guarantee roids cocaine, god knows what other drugs, and cte likely played a role even if he had schizophrenia or whatever these armchair psychologists are saying

Austin was documenting his mental decline and it culminated in a double murder. Nobody intervened until he was beyond No Return, regressed into some sort of wild animal as a result of an episode, and it lead to two lives lost

Nah he was 100% possesed just the way he acted, his movement and talking behaviour, him seeing shadow figures(probably demons) in his room and not being able to sleep, the incident night chugging a bottle of oil and seeing one more figure staring at him from distance screaming and asking for help and than proceed to beat up a woman till she is a flat surface and than eating a man alive covered in blood with superhuman strength. Tell me one mental issue that would cause that I do not care about a "psychotic episode" it deffo wasn't.
There's actually a clip not shown here, with him and his father in the garage. His father is telling him to take his meds (or something of that nature). But Austin didn't want to be on meds, as he mentions in the 4 days before the went berserk. He had medications prescribed to him . His family tried to help him.
@@sportler777 "Seeing shadow figures in his room and not being able to sleep" Schizophrenia, Insomnia or Sleep Paralysis can cause those symptoms. A psychotic episode can cause someone to do unusual things as chugging a bottle of oil and seeing more figures (again, could be caused by schizophrenia or just hallucinations, those are commons in psychotic episodes). The superhuman strength can be explained with a shock of adreline, the body is given enormous shocks of different hormones that can increase speed, strength and the senses. These can all be explained by psychotic episodes or as a neurological problem. The Brain is something we don't understand fully.
Austin tried telling several people, including his negligent parents, about his mental issues; friends and family also witnessed a drastic shift in his behavior. Shame on his family.
It seems like he has been grooming her since she was a little girl.... She was used to it, she thought it was normal.... As a victim of SA as a child I can tell you that that's how my mind worked as well. I thought how I grew up was completely normal because a lot of people around me told me so, until I told that to my therapist and she told me that I was SA'd

idk if you left out information for dramatic effect, but Austin left the restaurant twice, the first time herded back inside by a friend he was with. He changed his clothes at his mom's after she made him stop drinking the vegetable oil. He swung at his dad after his dad hit the tabletop, demanding to know what was wrong with [him]. And leading up to all of that, he asked his parents to pay for therapy. They said they could love it out.There were several moments to intervene. There were several points to course correct, and all of them were deliberately ignored
there's so so many examples of this. here in louisville there was a shooting in a bank, and in the months leading up to it there were multiple people in the community begging authorities to step in and get him help. and they never did anything until it was way, way too late

Austin's case is deeply frightening, both for the victims and for Austin himself. I couldn't imagine coming to only to realize you've done something so horrible. Schizophrenia is a truly terrifying experience for many...
I wish Schizophrenia was taken more seriously and treated more effectively. Instead of just brushing them aside as crazy people, they did more to help people suffering from schizophrenia. So many of the schizophrenic episodes and deaths could be avoided if people actually gave a fuck. But you know, people only care for themselves these days no empathy for others.

Just the reveal that he was actually EATING the mutilated, but still very much alive (at the time), body of one of his victims, all the while being completely out of it is so deeply awful on so many levels. I've seen a lot of dark stuff perusing the true crime side of YT but this is the first case in a long while where I'm left completely and wholeheartedly shocked by the result.

Funny. The only thing that I thought might be off was around 27:44 he talks about Austin H. running to his mother's house, which was empty. But I thought that his mother when questioned by police, told them that she was there, saw him drink cooking oil and told him to stop it... I could be wrong though.

The fitness guy was showing a bunch of signs. His sister said that he kept making comments about being immortal and being part horse. He had a mental breakdown and his family just watched. It had been going on for a while.
Poor Chyenne. She had such a vibrant spirit despite her horrific life. I see myself in her. I'm 43, but looking back on me as a socially awkward teenager. I did not go through anything like she did. How awful for her.

The Austin Harrouff case is one that's always stuck with me. It's hard to imagine feeling pity for a murderer, but the guy was fucking GONE when he did that. "Out of his mind" is an understatement. And he knew something was wrong, too - another video I've seen about the case noted that he flushed all his drugs down the toilet a few days before the murder. Frankly, I blame the parents who clearly just wanted to sweep things under the rug.
That last story is horrifying. The fact he had no idea what was happening and then coming back to a waking nightmare. It’s crazy how someone with such minimal and spontaneous signs of mental distress can just snap like that so suddenly and not even know what they did after the fact. Edit: Thank you for the replies!! Yeah, imagine waking up from what you think was a strange and horrible nightmare, then the real nightmare starts when you realize you gruesomely killed two people. I know I’d have a hard time trusting myself ever again.

From what I gather, there were a lot of signs. I think the issue is that there is still a lot of stigma surrounding mental health, sadly. Its extremely evident when the topic of discussion is about 'legal insanity'. Even the families of the victims, who should know most about the case, cannot wrap their minds around what it means to be legally insane. They see Austin as a "rich white boy"; they view the verdict of not guilty by reason of insanity and his possible release as "white privilege" EVEN THOUGH legal insanity is almost impossible to prove because of how strict the law is. Only 1% of people use insanity as a defense and way less people than that are successful in proving it. It only ever works when you are actually insane. I doubt he will ever be released anyway because his psychosis was so severe. Regardless, id rather go to prison than a psych ward. Some people just don't want to face the facts about mental health or are incapable because their minds are clouded by emotions and judgement.
At the same time TikTok is filled to the brim with disturbed vlogs. You can't "help", or sanction all the crazy acting teens. Some of this nonsense is actually called normal nowadays, and pointing to a disorder might get the pointer cancelled
@@magnuskallas While I see your point, I think it’s important to keep an open mind and not jump to conclusions on what person has what disorder you deem fitting. It’s a slippery slope that the people who actually know said person should be addressing, not folks on the internet who see very few parts of these peoples lives. We don’t know what they could be going through. But again, maybe a bit of a push in the right direction might make someone actually take themselves more seriously. I’m unsure what the right course of action would be in all honesty, but I think it’s a good discussion to have. And from what I’ve seen, I don’t think anyone is finding disorders “normal”, what I see is destigmatization of such things. Open discussions of illness which in turn might’ve made people like our main focus here feel less embarrassed to ask for help. In turn avoiding such tragedies. Of course, there are exceptions and you could be seeing something I’m not, though.

Old enough had nothing to do with it. And she could have easily done something about it if she chose to. It's obvious that she was groomed from a young age to see his behavior as normal and probably came to see it as affection in some f-ed up way while at the same time being aware of the legal realities of such "affection.". These perverts are quite adept at keeping their victims from speaking out.
That's really odd. The moment it was said that he "saw" demons or creatures at night who kept him awake, it was clear that he had some kind of mental problem, probably schizophrenia. Also: long time periods of very bad or no sleep most likely lead to hallucinations. How could his environment just ignore this?

There was also a case of a guy who killed his children. He had talked openly about hearing voices and joined a church that not only didn't help him but actively played into the delusions, telling him it was the voice of god. @@Hitsugix I think it's evident what kind of environment he was in when after doing many crazy and odd things including the drinking vegetable oil, he asked his parents to pay for therapy for him and they said that they would love it out. Like after all his crazy actions, speaking about hallucinations of demons, and pleas for help, you don't do anything. And when he runs away after that confrontation, they wait 4 hours until they call the police for him.
@@HitsugixI have no idea if this is the case for him but I have known people with delusions and the people around them basically encouraged them to believe they were real because they were either very religious or really into "the supernatural" so they believed in demons and told these people that they believed them when they said they saw demons

As someone with Schizophrenia, he needs help badly. I started developing at 13, I've had episodes, hearing and seeing things. Luckily, I was diagnosed 13 years later in jail. After many years and psychiatrists, I'm on the best medication and live a normal life just like everyone else. Mental illness is no joke.
I can relate. I have 5 mental disorders. One of them is some for of Schizophrenia which makes me quite paranoid. And i have ADHD, i have suffered from panic anxiety attacks previously and i also have had 5 Psychotic episodes over a 3 year span, and i have Posttraumatic stress. I hate all the stigma against mental illness. Like you say, mental illness is no joke and never something anyone should ever make jokes about. Much love.

I went to Cheyenne's youtube channel as soon as you mentioned it was active, and the first video I saw was the most recent one. As soon as this dude came in and she kinda walked over and touched his arms, and then he began to "play slap" her, I had to stop it and come back. I had an instant bad feeling about whatever I was seeing. Literally, as soon as his legs entered the shot, I got a shiver. I didn't even notice what they were saying. It was really the, "See how abusive he is?" that did it for me. Even in a joking matter, something felt wrong immediately. And all for some sick man's selfish lust. This makes me want to cry. She just seemed like such a sweetheart. A complete loss to the world to not have her in it.
I don't think I could bring myself to watch the full thing. The clip alone sent shivers down my spine. Poor girl, she really needed a protector. Her mother will probably suffer with overwhelming guilt for the rest of her life for bringing that monster into their lives and not paying close enough attention to her child

As a personal victim of SA from my father(biological not step in my case) It infuriates me beyond belief that this continues to happen to innocent girls. We don’t deserve this, no one does. Austin speaking about being healthy and not taking drugs has more to it, he was supposed to be on (prescribed) medication but didn't want to take them. What a horrific ending.
And I've seen this mentality before from some hardcore bodybuilders, they think any kind of medication is bad but fail to remember that not everyone's brain works correctly, some of us literally NEED medication to be able to function. It's not as simple as just "staying clean" - that's not universally good for everyone.

Chyenne probably felt very guilty for what she was doing with him, and that's why she tried protecting him. She was concerned for him, because he made her feel like they were doing something they weren't supposed to. It's one thing to abuse your step daughter, which is awful in its own right, but another to kill her out of fear of being caught. He could've just stopped abusing her. Even if he doesn't come clean, even if he suffers no consequences, he could've just stopped and she would be alive. It's even sadder that she loved him.
Even if he stopped abusing her, she could’ve still spilled the beans online (like she almost did), or years later. And he didn’t want that. It’s sad that she didn’t make it to adulthood, or even given the opportunity to leave that house/ town as a whole to put all of this behind her. I sincerely thought she ran away.. I wouldn’t have blamed her for it. Being stuck with your abuser (especially if it’s a parental figure) is so claustrophobic, you’re never safe and you’re always on edge. It’s so depressing. As a survivor of csa I always dreamt of doing it (running away), but was too scared to. I’m grateful I had friends I could confide in at the time, school was my escape from the hell that awaited me at home. Maybe that’s why Chyenne loved making videos as she didn’t have friends of her own to lean on and used it as a coping mechanism.

The abuse a child goes through is never the fault of the victim. It's hard to rationalize and read the atmosphere of situations as a child. It was not your fault that bad things happened to you, it was the fault of the sick individuals that caused it to happen.

chyenne's story is absolutely heartbreaking. it hits so close to home for me, she reminds me a lot of myself when i was her age. she seemed super bubbly and friendly, very trusting and creative. it's gut wrenching to think of everything that poor baby went through at the hands of that monster. even when he was hurting her, she tried to protect him and trusted him. she trusted him enough to go into the woods with him that day and it cost her her life. chy deserved to live, to grow and learn and embrace herself for who she was and become a beautiful human being. she had so much love and light to give to the world, only for it to be taken by that monster. even though he tried, she never stopped being that loving and caring person. her siblings must miss her terribly. and now that i've seen her, i miss her too. i hope that she's resting, using that bright smile and positive energy on the other side. rest in peace, chy. you deserved so much more than you got. ❤
I knew when she was talking about him staying out of the vid prior to that. He was assaulting her continuously. It's sickening. You can tell she had taken to being kind and acting like she wanted it so likely wouldn't be so rough with her. I forget what it's called.
I'm a resident of East Dubuque. When I was in elementary school there was a lockdown at the school that day and all of the kids were confused. When we eventually went home, we saw FBI vehicles. Right across the street was that house. I went to after school daycare and the murderer commonly walked over when we were playing and had chats with our caretaker. Absolutely terrifying hearing more to this story now.
Chyenne's story makes me feel so sad and disgusted and the saddest part is that there are many such cases. I wish women with kids were more careful about who they bring into their homes.
In the UK now and I believe it's been for a while anyone can do a background check with the police to see if a new partner has any convictions for violent or sexual crimes against women & children.Too many beasts about so imo it a step in the right direction.

The call on the Austin segment to 911... "Do you need police, fire or medical?" - "Police and medical" - "Fire and rescue, what's your address?" I feel that was the one thing he didn't ask for.
I think in America the fire department is often the same as the ambulance service. Which sounds super weird. But if you need police and medical, they'll go for medical first as they need the most detailed info and will dispatch police on the side.

I remember hearing about Austin’s harrouffs story a long time ago. As someone with schizo-affective bipolar disorder, I can see in his eyes how dangerous his mind was becoming in those videos alone, building up fast. He was clearly reaching a breaking point, and I think going to a restaurant might’ve set him off faster. I believe that because possibly, the sound of lots of talking, chewing, laughing, clinking of plates and forks, might’ve pushed him to break down completely that night, he was going to break down bad at some point but that probably partially set it off into complete chaos. I say that because I and others with mental disorders have anger and nervous breakdowns in loud restaurants, especially when your mind is so dark like his, his break down was alot worse than most. I’m so sorry for the victims, this is a horrible case.

As someone with bipolar disorder, I’m not surprised with how this all played out. Once you’re in a place like that it’s insanely hard to get out of, especially if no one acknowledges it or doesn’t anything about it. Manic or psychotic episodes are insane, we end up putting ourselves and everyone around us in danger. It sucks. Just tragic all around.
@@alexacortes579 it really does. When I’m in a manic episode, I typically isolate myself in the woods for a few hours as I feel like I might hurt someone like my parents, my dogs, or myself. For us with bipolar and schizo affective disorders, we need to realize when we might be a danger before our mind makes a decision for us. Luckily, I’m not a violent person, but it didn’t seem he was either. This case really shows what happens when we are medically untreated.

As a person who has seizures that can sometimes be triggered by flashing of strobe lights, I want to thank you for putting a warning in the beginning of the video. I already had a really bad seizure this week, so I would definitely NOT like to repeat that! 😊❤
I also have epilepsy. I don't get too affected by flashing light but have had a few that were horrible so I also appreciate Nick's warning. People without epilepsy usually have no idea how agonizing it is after the seizure. My temporal and frontal lobe get affected. Once my brain gets activated I can have over a 100 a day.
I don't have epilepsy but it seems like so many horror channels will use flashing light effects for no reason. It just seems kinda unfair to the people who are affected by that kind of thing when effects like that are mostly just obnoxious and don't add to the content. I’ve recently found your channel and I’ve been binge watching a lot of your videos it’s really hard to find RUclipsrs that cover content such as this while being respectful and informative at the same time so thank you for that
my boyfriend has schizophrenia (that he’s thankfully medicated for) and that story with Austin haunts me. I’ve heard stories from my bf of his descent into delusion and the years he had to spend in mental institutions… it’s so heartbreaking. It makes me lose sleep sometimes thinking about how much different things could have turned out for him if he never got help.. smoking weed isn’t harmless for everyone, for some people it can trigger very scary things.
I feel sorry for both Austin and the couple killed by his episode. The poor guy seemed genuinely really nice, and even was pursuing music as a creative outlet. He just didn't get the help he needed until it was too late to prevent something like this. Heart also goes out to the officers that showed up. That scene probably haunts their dreams to this day.

One of the rare times I actually felt any respect for Dr. Phil was when he interviewed Austin and decided not to continue airing the episode. He recognized very quickly that Austin was incredibly ill and that there was no morals behind exploiting him.

austin’s story gave me the chills, he looked like such a sweet kid going down a traumatic path. schizophrenia is an awful thing and the poor guy was fighting with his own conscience about his actions and what he really wanted.
That little girl in the first one breaks my heart. The only life she probably ever knew was a hard life but she still managed to smile and laugh. May God rest her sweet soul.

To be fair, in that one video Austin recorded where he talks about how he doesn't want to take drugs (at 26:19) makes it seem like he was being recommended to take medication, but was refusing to do so. It's possible what he was talking about was how he doesn't want to use steroids and other things to cheat on his fitness journey, but it's also not unheard of for people to refuse taking medications because they don't think they need it. Austin's friends were said to have noticed his personality change, so I would hope his parents would have also noticed the change, but maybe they didn't think it would get to the point that it did, I don't know. It's just a sad story all around, though.

He probably had sudden onset schizophrenia, and usually people don't realize they need meds until they are forced to take them and then get better. I find it extremely hard to believe that the people close to him didn't realize he was hallucinating.

ive suffered from psychotic episodes before and i really feel for austin. i know how terrifying it is to not know anything about whats going on, being fully disconnected from reality, and having no control over yourself. fortunately for me and others, i was a really big shut-in when i had my break, so i didnt really have access to anyone i could hurt other than myself when i had violent episodes. i hope he's doing better now. condolences to both his and the victim's families as well, and the neighbors too.

Turning yourself over to the psych ward can be quite daunting though, especially with their reputation and while already having delusions. Its just sad that this was so preventable if he had just been paid more attention to and if mental health wasnt so stigmatized.

Not everyone with a mental illness is in control and able to recognize when they aren't, that is why it is important for the people around them to force them to get help. Also, just because you are a legal adult by age doesn't mean you have your full cognitive abilities to make decisions for yourself and others.
He would have gotten help sooner if he knew he would not be treated like an animal. It's no wonder the suicide rate is getting higher and higher every year because people know they lose their humanity as soon as they try to get help from a psych ward. Yeah I've had a psychotic disorder and was caught in the prodromal phase so at most I was just weird and annoying and not outright a danger to myself and others. Being psychotic feels like having a high fever or being on powerful drugs. Your only 2 options are fight or flight, nothing else. Almost like having rabies or being on bath salts if that's the best way to describe it.

The second case really scares me from a personal side, my dad used to be a RC pilot and aeromodeller before we moved and started taking a break from that stuff (though he still watches videos of these things), he prefers planes million times over helicopters. This happened many years ago when I was a child, one day he was fixing the propeller of a model that he was building on his own, but he accidentally activated the motor that made the propeller rotate, he cut the palm of his hand, a lot of blood came out and It didn't stop even though my family and I tried to help, fortunately it didn't go any further and they stitched up the cut at the hospital, but it took a long time to heal. This sport is so fun, but also pretty dangerous, still so, I support his passion a lot :)

I think with child abuse the child often can become a "co-conspirator" with their abuser in order to keep on their good side and also out of their own feelings of guilt about "allowing" it to happen.

It’s so frightening how many children are living in a home like that of Cheyenne to some degree and often times there’s nothing done for them until it’s far too late.

Nick forgot to mention Cheyenne’s school already suspected sexual abuse.. it was her step dad who was delaying a CAC interview. And when cheyenes best friend was interview by the police she just said “she’s dead”. And also cheyennes grandma lived next door, literally and her grandma knew about the abuse
This story gave me chills as my best friend was in that situation. Luckily, she and her mother were able to leave. This poor girl. :(
It’s so awful, I can’t even imagine! I don’t often cry at videos like this cause I can usually turn my emotions off but I did when her case came along and he showed that video.. Just thinking about how many kids go through this and have no one to help them, my heart breaks for them. I was around her age when this happened, she really seems like such a fun sweet kid that I’d love to have been friends with. I remember even making goofy videos similar to hers around that time so I’m sure we would’ve gotten along well.. @beckyf2845 and put them where exactly? You adopting or fostering kids? The foster care system is often just as abusive and even worse. Which is why courts have transitioned to working with the families to provide better and more stable homes.
There's no magic farm up north ran by billionaires for kids. It's this: abused in foster care, abused in juvenile hall, abused in squalor or abused while homeless.
Go open up your house for foster care or at least try to convince representatives to spend less on prisons and bombs and more on social services.
So basically, the reason why Chyenne "disappeared" was because Terry developed an attraction to her and realized that he would eventually be caught, so he took the most extreme route.

I wish more people knew that schizophrenia and other mental illnesses very often present in the early 20s for people who were otherwise completely sane until that moment. If anyone had recognized the signs in Austin's behavior and gotten him the help he so clearly needed, a tragedy could have been prevented. RIP, that poor couple.

@@Henry-yf2np People who knew him personally noticed a drastic personality change, and the comparison between the several videos of him hint at that. Apparently he was also hallucinating, to the point where he wasn't sleeping at night. Wouldn't really consider all these events as presenting normal.
Yeah, his sister even started locking her bedroom door at night because of how drastic his behavior changed. He was also aware to some degree that things were not right with his mental health and he performed multiple internet searches on signs of schizophrenia and symptoms of psychosis. His parents were fully aware of everything going on, and they 100% failed this young man. The deaths of those poor people are heart wrenching. Their family was so angry with Austin's parents because jail phone recordings released show that Austin's father was absolutely heartless, he blamed the victims, he was extremely callous. Austin's father appears to have ignored all signs that Austin was deteriorating for months, and it's been suggested that because he is an affluent man in the community, he was far more concerned with the optics of a son with mental illness than he was about getting his son any help. There is so much more to this than any of us know, I'm sure. It's such a tragedy in so many ways. It didn't have to happen.

@@RobbieAmerican No he did show remorse. He is also genuinely horrified at his actions if you listen to the phone calls with his dad after he’s arrested you can tell he truly was not himself during the attack and he has nothing but remorse and guilt for it.
Nick forgot to mention that Austin's mental health issues made him believe he was a horse, and later on a dog. He also believed he was invincible, genuinely thinking he'd survive walking into fast-moving traffic.

Austin's story is absolutely horrific and heartbreaking, even just thinking he has to live with the knowledge of what he did for the rest of his life. A detail you left out was that he screamed to the officers 'please help, I'm eating people!' as if part of him was aware of what his psychosis was making him do, but he couldn't stop himself. I sincerely hope he finds some peace.
During my psychotic episode i had seconds of clearness before "going under" again, its like a profound moment of realization best described as the most intense for of post nut clearity ever. But the time spent in the clear is so short and confusing you cant really react to it.

I also don’t get how the stepdad and the boyfriend of the mother lived together. I truly believe Chyanne was being neglected by her parents and guardians.

Chyennes story helped me overcome my own SA by the hands of my step dad that lasted 10 years. I was doing my best to keep things peaceful while he tried to keep me for himself.
We loved watching these creepy videos, but one night he fell asleep during this particular video, and i almost started crying during Chyennes' story. I realised what my sick step dad was capable of if he thought i was going to "betray" him. I tried to be peaceful and end things without any issues, but he made it clear he was never going to stop obsessing over me.
He was doing fine, but then he installed a camera in the house without my knowledge, and that was my biggest fear, being constantly watched and unable to escape him, even when he wasnt around. Before he could hurt me further, i reported him finally. He ended up taking his own life when he realised i was not going to be under his control, and i was devastated, but in that moment, it was his life or mine.
I know Chyenne is in a better place, her storybeing told helped me find the strength ti end the abuse, abd i hope others will escape their own abuse too

That's 1000x more terrifying, because sudden-onset violent schizophrenia like that... no one is safe from it. It could happen to you or me tomorrow. And then I'd be the one who spends the rest of my life thinking about that time I ate a dude for no reason.

Now, the couple didn't deserve to die obviously, but Austin was probably having hallucinations and "visions" which is very easy to see as being Schizophrenia. A friend has told me now, 5 years into being friends, that her mom is seriously Schizophrenic and that she's not good with new people. It's why he told me not to go to his parents house unless his brother, dad, or himself are there. Simply because she takes medicine a few times a week for her Schizophrenia, but if she forgets to take it she can start to hear the voices and delusional thoughts.
I guarantee roids cocaine, god knows what other drugs, and cte likely played a role even if he had schizophrenia or whatever these armchair psychologists are saying
as someone who has had psychotic episodes before, hearing austin’s story affected me a lot. its a tragedy for everyone involved. RIP to the victims

Tell me one mental issue that would cause that I do not care about a "psychotic episode" it deffo wasn't.
There's actually a clip not shown here, with him and his father in the garage. His father is telling him to take his meds (or something of that nature). But Austin didn't want to be on meds, as he mentions in the 4 days before the went berserk. He had medications prescribed to him . His family tried to help him.

A psychotic episode can cause someone to do unusual things as chugging a bottle of oil and seeing more figures (again, could be caused by schizophrenia or just hallucinations, those are commons in psychotic episodes). The superhuman strength can be explained with a shock of adreline, the body is given enormous shocks of different hormones that can increase speed, strength and the senses. These can all be explained by psychotic episodes or as a neurological problem. The Brain is something we don't understand fully.
Austin tried telling several people, including his negligent parents, about his mental issues; friends and family also witnessed a drastic shift in his behavior.

The most disturbing part about Cheyenne's case is how unaware she seems to be of how he is manipulating and grooming her.
She was 14. If he'd been doing that to her since she was younger, of course to her it's going to be "normal". She grew up with it.

idk if you left out information for dramatic effect, but Austin left the restaurant twice, the first time herded back inside by a friend he was with. He changed his clothes at his mom's after she made him stop drinking the vegetable oil. He swung at his dad after his dad hit the tabletop, demanding to know what was wrong with [him]. And leading up to all of that, he asked his parents to pay for therapy. They said they could love it out.There were several moments to intervene. There were several points to course correct, and all of them were deliberately ignored
there's so so many examples of this. here in louisville there was a shooting in a bank, and in the months leading up to it there were multiple people in the community begging authorities to step in and get him help. and they never did anything until it was way, way too late

Austin's case is deeply frightening, both for the victims and for Austin himself. I couldn't imagine coming to only to realize you've done something so horrible. Schizophrenia is a truly terrifying experience for many...
I wish Schizophrenia was taken more seriously and treated more effectively. Instead of just brushing them aside as crazy people, they did more to help people suffering from schizophrenia. So many of the schizophrenic episodes and deaths could be avoided if people actually gave a fuck. But you know, people only care for themselves these days no empathy for others.

The fitness guy was showing a bunch of signs. His sister said that he kept making comments about being immortal and being part horse. He had a mental breakdown and his family just watched. It had been going on for a while.
Poor Chyenne. She had such a vibrant spirit despite her horrific life. I see myself in her. I'm 43, but looking back on me as a socially awkward teenager. I did not go through anything like she did. How awful for her.

The Austin Harrouff case is one that's always stuck with me. It's hard to imagine feeling pity for a murderer, but the guy was fucking GONE when he did that. "Out of his mind" is an understatement. And he knew something was wrong, too - another video I've seen about the case noted that he flushed all his drugs down the toilet a few days before the murder. Frankly, I blame the parents who clearly just wanted to sweep things under the rug.

I think the issue is that there is still a lot of stigma surrounding mental health, sadly. Its extremely evident when the topic of discussion is about 'legal insanity'.
Even the families of the victims, who should know most about the case, cannot wrap their minds around what it means to be legally insane. They see Austin as a "rich white boy"; they view the verdict of not guilty by reason of insanity and his possible release as "white privilege" EVEN THOUGH legal insanity is almost impossible to prove because of how strict the law is. Only 1% of people use insanity as a defense and way less people than that are successful in proving it. It only ever works when you are actually insane.
I doubt he will ever be released anyway because his psychosis was so severe. Regardless, id rather go to prison than a psych ward.
Some people just don't want to face the facts about mental health or are incapable because their minds are clouded by emotions and judgement.
At the same time TikTok is filled to the brim with disturbed vlogs. You can't "help", or sanction all the crazy acting teens. Some of this nonsense is actually called normal nowadays, and pointing to a disorder might get the pointer cancelled
@@magnuskallas While I see your point, I think it’s important to keep an open mind and not jump to conclusions on what person has what disorder you deem fitting. It’s a slippery slope that the people who actually know said person should be addressing, not folks on the internet who see very few parts of these peoples lives. We don’t know what they could be going through.
But again, maybe a bit of a push in the right direction might make someone actually take themselves more seriously. I’m unsure what the right course of action would be in all honesty, but I think it’s a good discussion to have.
And from what I’ve seen, I don’t think anyone is finding disorders “normal”, what I see is destigmatization of such things. Open discussions of illness which in turn might’ve made people like our main focus here feel less embarrassed to ask for help. In turn avoiding such tragedies. Of course, there are exceptions and you could be seeing something I’m not, though.

chyenne has one of the saddest and most disturbing cases. she was old enough to understand her abuser was just that, an abuser, but she was too young to stop it. may she rest in peace for eternity.
Old enough had nothing to do with it. And she could have easily done something about it if she chose to. It's obvious that she was groomed from a young age to see his behavior as normal and probably came to see it as affection in some f-ed up way while at the same time being aware of the legal realities of such "affection.". These perverts are quite adept at keeping their victims from speaking out.

That he was clearly having issues and no one around him either cared enough or knew enough to see what was going on.
That's really odd. The moment it was said that he "saw" demons or creatures at night who kept him awake, it was clear that he had some kind of mental problem, probably schizophrenia. Also: long time periods of very bad or no sleep most likely lead to hallucinations. How could his environment just ignore this?

@@Hitsugix I think it's evident what kind of environment he was in when after doing many crazy and odd things including the drinking vegetable oil, he asked his parents to pay for therapy for him and they said that they would love it out. Like after all his crazy actions, speaking about hallucinations of demons, and pleas for help, you don't do anything. And when he runs away after that confrontation, they wait 4 hours until they call the police for him.

As someone with Schizophrenia, he needs help badly. I started developing at 13, I've had episodes, hearing and seeing things. Luckily, I was diagnosed 13 years later in jail. After many years and psychiatrists, I'm on the best medication and live a normal life just like everyone else. Mental illness is no joke.

I can relate. I have 5 mental disorders. One of them is some for of Schizophrenia which makes me quite paranoid. And i have ADHD, i have suffered from panic anxiety attacks previously and i also have had 5 Psychotic episodes over a 3 year span, and i have Posttraumatic stress. I hate all the stigma against mental illness. Like you say, mental illness is no joke and never something anyone should ever make jokes about. Much love.

I went to Cheyenne's youtube channel as soon as you mentioned it was active, and the first video I saw was the most recent one. As soon as this dude came in and she kinda walked over and touched his arms, and then he began to "play slap" her, I had to stop it and come back. I had an instant bad feeling about whatever I was seeing. Literally, as soon as his legs entered the shot, I got a shiver. I didn't even notice what they were saying. It was really the, "See how abusive he is?" that did it for me. Even in a joking matter, something felt wrong immediately.

Austin speaking about being healthy and not taking drugs has more to it, he was supposed to be on (prescribed) medication but didn't want to take them. What a horrific ending.
And I've seen this mentality before from some hardcore bodybuilders, they think any kind of medication is bad but fail to remember that not everyone's brain works correctly, some of us literally NEED medication to be able to function. It's not as simple as just "staying clean" - that's not universally good for everyone.

Chyenne probably felt very guilty for what she was doing with him, and that's why she tried protecting him. She was concerned for him, because he made her feel like they were doing something they weren't supposed to. It's one thing to abuse your step daughter, which is awful in its own right, but another to kill her out of fear of being caught. He could've just stopped abusing her. Even if he doesn't come clean, even if he suffers no consequences, he could've just stopped and she would be alive. It's even sadder that she loved him.

Even if he stopped abusing her, she could’ve still spilled the beans online (like she almost did), or years later. And he didn’t want that. It’s sad that she didn’t make it to adulthood, or even given the opportunity to leave that house/ town as a whole to put all of this behind her. I sincerely thought she ran away.. I wouldn’t have blamed her for it. Being stuck with your abuser (especially if it’s a parental figure) is so claustrophobic, you’re never safe and you’re always on edge. It’s so depressing. As a survivor of csa I always dreamt of doing it (running away), but was too scared to. I’m grateful I had friends I could confide in at the time, school was my escape from the hell that awaited me at home. Maybe that’s why Chyenne loved making videos as she didn’t have friends of her own to lean on and used it as a coping mechanism.
Child victims of SA often feel it was their fault, so she probably felt guilty af.

The abuse a child goes through is never the fault of the victim. It's hard to rationalize and read the atmosphere of situations as a child. It was not your fault that bad things happened to you, it was the fault of the sick individuals that caused it to happen.

chyenne's story is absolutely heartbreaking. it hits so close to home for me, she reminds me a lot of myself when i was her age. she seemed super bubbly and friendly, very trusting and creative. it's gut wrenching to think of everything that poor baby went through at the hands of that monster. even when he was hurting her, she tried to protect him and trusted him. she trusted him enough to go into the woods with him that day and it cost her her life. chy deserved to live, to grow and learn and embrace herself for who she was and become a beautiful human being. she had so much love and light to give to the world, only for it to be taken by that monster. even though he tried, she never stopped being that loving and caring person. her siblings must miss her terribly. and now that i've seen her, i miss her too. i hope that she's resting, using that bright smile and positive energy on the other side. rest in peace, chy. you deserved so much more than you got. ❤

I'm a resident of East Dubuque. When I was in elementary school there was a lockdown at the school that day and all of the kids were confused. When we eventually went home, we saw FBI vehicles. Right across the street was that house. I went to after school daycare and the murderer commonly walked over when we were playing and had chats with our caretaker. Absolutely terrifying hearing more to this story now.

I think in America the fire department is often the same as the ambulance service. Which sounds super weird. But if you need police and medical, they'll go for medical first as they need the most detailed info and will dispatch police on the side.

I remember hearing about Austin’s harrouffs story a long time ago. As someone with schizo-affective bipolar disorder, I can see in his eyes how dangerous his mind was becoming in those videos alone, building up fast. He was clearly reaching a breaking point, and I think going to a restaurant might’ve set him off faster. I believe that because possibly, the sound of lots of talking, chewing, laughing, clinking of plates and forks, might’ve pushed him to break down completely that night, he was going to break down bad at some point but that probably partially set it off into complete chaos. I say that because I and others with mental disorders have anger and nervous breakdowns in loud restaurants, especially when your mind is so dark like his, his break down was alot worse than most. I’m so sorry for the victims, this is a horrible case.

As someone with bipolar disorder, I’m not surprised with how this all played out. Once you’re in a place like that it’s insanely hard to get out of, especially if no one acknowledges it or doesn’t anything about it. Manic or psychotic episodes are insane, we end up putting ourselves and everyone around us in danger. It sucks. Just tragic all around.
@@alexacortes579 it really does. When I’m in a manic episode, I typically isolate myself in the woods for a few hours as I feel like I might hurt someone like my parents, my dogs, or myself. For us with bipolar and schizo affective disorders, we need to realize when we might be a danger before our mind makes a decision for us. Luckily, I’m not a violent person, but it didn’t seem he was either. This case really shows what happens when we are medically untreated.

As a person who has seizures that can sometimes be triggered by flashing of strobe lights, I want to thank you for putting a warning in the beginning of the video. I already had a really bad seizure this week, so I would definitely NOT like to repeat that!

I also have epilepsy. I don't get too affected by flashing light but have had a few that were horrible so I also appreciate Nick's warning. People without epilepsy usually have no idea how agonizing it is after the seizure. My temporal and frontal lobe get affected. Once my brain gets activated I can have over a 100 a day.
I don't have epilepsy but it seems like so many horror channels will use flashing light effects for no reason. I’ve heard stories from my bf of his descent into delusion and the years he had to spend in mental institutions… it’s so heartbreaking. It makes me lose sleep sometimes thinking about how much different things could have turned out for him if he never got help..

One of the rare times I actually felt any respect for Dr. Phil was when he interviewed Austin and decided not to continue airing the episode. He recognized very quickly that Austin was incredibly ill and that there was no morals behind exploiting him.

austin’s story gave me the chills, he looked like such a sweet kid going down a traumatic path. schizophrenia is an awful thing and the poor guy was fighting with his own conscience about his actions and what he really wanted.
That little girl in the first one breaks my heart. The only life she probably ever knew was a hard life but she still managed to smile and laugh. May God rest her sweet soul.

To be fair, in that one video Austin recorded where he talks about how he doesn't want to take drugs (at 26:19) makes it seem like he was being recommended to take medication, but was refusing to do so. It's possible what he was talking about was how he doesn't want to use steroids and other things to cheat on his fitness journey, but it's also not unheard of for people to refuse taking medications because they don't think they need it. Austin's friends were said to have noticed his personality change, so I would hope his parents would have also noticed the change, but maybe they didn't think it would get to the point that it did, I don't know. It's just a sad story all around, though.

@@GabbyGoLuckyAt that point though when you notice some serious changes you can legally force him to get psychiatric help. He probably had sudden onset schizophrenia, and usually people don't realize they need meds until they are forced to take them and then get better. I find it extremely hard to believe that the people close to him didn't realize he was hallucinating.

The second I heard you say Austin's name a chill ran down my spine, I've heard that case is graphic detail and for anyone who hasn't heard ALL those details, it's so much worse... He even had an interview with Dr. Phil and the whole situation is absolutely horrible. Great coverage on all these stories, always look forward to the next 👍

ive suffered from psychotic episodes before and i really feel for austin. i know how terrifying it is to not know anything about whats going on, being fully disconnected from reality, and having no control over yourself. fortunately for me and others, i was a really big shut-in when i had my break, so i didnt really have access to anyone i could hurt other than myself when i had violent episodes. i hope he's doing better now. condolences to both his and the victim's families as well, and the neighbors too.
@surfergirl376 I understand completely! Even though the things he did were horrific, i do feel its important to remember he's a person too that was struggling. Turning yourself over to the psych ward can be quite daunting though, especially with their reputation and while already having delusions. Its just sad that this was so preventable if he had just been paid more attention to and if mental health wasnt so stigmatized.
@@girlofthealpinesPeople suffering psychotic breaks do not know that they are until it's too late. It's not an excuse, it just is what it is. Not everyone with a mental illness is in control and able to recognize when they aren't, that is why it is important for the people around them to force them to get help. Also, just because you are a legal adult by age doesn't mean you have your full cognitive abilities to make decisions for yourself and others.
He would have gotten help sooner if he knew he would not be treated like an animal. It's no wonder the suicide rate is getting higher and higher every year because people know they lose their humanity as soon as they try to get help from a psych ward. When people lose their humanity, they automatically do what they can to commit suicide rather than live as a non-human.

Yeah I've had a psychotic disorder and was caught in the prodromal phase so at most I was just weird and annoying and not outright a danger to myself and others. Being psychotic feels like having a high fever or being on powerful drugs. Your only 2 options are fight or flight, nothing else. Almost like having rabies or being on bath salts if that's the best way to describe it.

The second case really scares me from a personal side, my dad used to be a RC pilot and aeromodeller before we moved and started taking a break from that stuff (though he still watches videos of these things), he prefers planes million times over helicopters.
This happened many years ago when I was a child, one day he was fixing the propeller of a model that he was building on his own, but he accidentally activated the motor that made the propeller rotate, he cut the palm of his hand, a lot of blood came out and It didn't stop even though my family and I tried to help, fortunately it didn't go any further and they stitched up the cut at the hospital, but it took a long time to heal. This sport is so fun, but also pretty dangerous, still so, I support his passion a lot :)
