- Hello after so long!
This is a project I worked on as a part of my Animation and Interactive Media course at RMIT University. (Started early 2017 - Posted June 2017 )
So there isn't anymore confusion, I started working on this project before the anime was even announced, or when the manga got it's official English title. So I decided to use my own translation of Houseki no Kuni for the sake of this project.
The brief was to make either an opening or ending sequence of a movie or series of our choice and I decided to make one for Haruko Ichikawa's Houseki no Kuni, which I've decided to translate as Kingdom of Jewels; a slightly more literal translation.
I worked on this project by myself so all of the illustrations and editing were done by me which proved to be very difficult given the amount of time I had to complete it.
I want to thank all of my friends, family and lecturers for helping and supporting me throughout the whole project and I hope you enjoy!!

Now I've been getting a lot of people asking about the music I used and where I got it so I'll answer that here, I did not compose this song myself and I bought the licence to use this music off the royalty free website Audio Jungle. The actual song is a bit longer but I used a shorter version for the sake of this sequence and because I couldn't afford making the sequence really long due to time.
I'll link in the description the full song, but it has a water/audio mark unless you purchase it yourself.

Damn, this could be a perfect opening for season 2! (if they'll ever make one...) The sad music and dark theme would work really well with the story at that point of the manga!
I'm getting a very different impression from this compared to the op for the anime
If Houseki n Kuni were adapted into a live action series for Netflix, this could be a fitting opening
I'm hoping they never do a live action for this
This would work for later seasons since it gets a bit dark in the manga

I really appreciate the first part of the sequence where you can see the glass behind the other glass as its panning up. Probably my favorite detail from this whole sequence!

This is incredible. I saw this and thought that these were the closing credits for episode 12 or something. You really captured the tone and atmosphere of Houseki no Kuni. Thank you for sharing this! I hope you and your work gets the recognition that you/it deserves and that you get to work and great things you'll enjoy.
This was freaking AMAZING!!!! The piano piece you chose to use really tells how tragic the story is.

Wonderful video! I dont know if it was intentional but the beginning is so perfect for the manga moment when the "10000 years of suffering" began, I don't know if apollo gave you the gift of prophecy but it just makes this video even more special

this is SO COOL the way light seems to go through every shard of gem and cracked gemstone is phenominal, the way the shards magnify each other as they go behind each other in the beginning sequence is flawless, the way this is all tied together with a simple orchestral musuc is simply amazing, the art is pulled off together so well because of how much colour and abstarct light and refractions from the gems hair is made, all tied together with the impact that this is all drawn on a plain black backround makes this all the more beautifull and makes the clours stands out more. well done creator, youve truly made a master peice and i hope to see more from you

It's someone else's original composition that I bought the license to use from a royalty free music website called Audio Jungle which you can find here :) audiojungle.net/item/dramatic-piano/17905504
I slightly edited it to just be shorter since the track was actually a lot longer and animating to a longer track would take more time.
