The Fieseler Fi 156 Storch (English: Stork) was a small German liaison aircraft built by Fieseler before and during World War II. Production continued in other countries into the 1950s for the private market. It was notable for its excellent STOL performance and low stall speed of 50 km/h (31 mph).[2] French-built later variants often appear at air shows.
Conception and production
In 1935, the RLM (Reichsluftfahrtministerium, Reich Aviation Ministry) invited several aviation companies to submit design proposals that would compete for the production contract for a new Luftwaffe aircraft design suitable for liaison, army co-operation (today called forward air control), and medical evacuation. This resulted in the Messerschmitt Bf 163 and Siebel Si 201 competing against the Fieseler firm's entry. Conceived by chief designer Reinhold Mewes and technical director Erich Bachem, Fieseler's design had a far better short take off and landing ("STOL") performance. A fixed slat ran along the entire length of the leading edge of the long wings, while a hinged and slotted set of control surfaces ran along the entire length of trailing edge. This was inspired by earlier 1930s Junkers Doppelflügel, "double-wing" aircraft wing control surface design concepts. For the Fi 156, this setup along each wing panel's trailing edge was split nearly 50/50 between the inboard-located flaps and outboard-located ailerons, which, in turn, included trim tab devices over half of each aileron's trailing edge length.
Fi 156 in flight
A design feature rare for land-based aircraft enabled the wings on the Storch to be folded back along the fuselage in a manner similar to the wings of the Royal Navy's Fairey Swordfish torpedo bomber. This allowed the aircraft to be carried on a trailer or even towed slowly behind a vehicle. The primary hinge for the folding wing was located in the wing root, where the rear wing spar met the cabin. The long legs of the main landing gear contained oil-and-spring shock absorbers that had a travel of 40 cm (15-3/4 inches), allowing the aircraft to land on comparatively rough and uneven surfaces; this was combined with a "pre-travel" distance of 20 cm, before the oleos began damping the landing gear shock.[3] In flight, the main landing gear legs hung down, giving the aircraft the appearance of a long-legged, big-winged bird, hence its nickname, Storch. With its very low landing speed, the Storch often appeared to land vertically, or even backwards in strong winds from directly ahead.
Starting with the C-2 variant, the Fi 156 was fitted with a raised, fully-glazed position for a flexible rear-firing MG 15 7.92mm machine gun for self-defense.[4]

Thank you to the Brothers for a wonderful video of another beautiful and sexy plane hey! Never mind the rain hey!
Happy Sunday morning guys salute, Gazza 🇬🇧
Such a sexy legend in the air , preforming to its reputation. As one of the best surveillance planes in history. Well flown Pilot Robert and filmed perfectly by Capt. Blaz.. Once again your fans world wide SALUTE YOU 👏 !
Nice maiden flight looks like a beautiful plane for cruising around slowly
It feels so cozy under Blaz's umbrella
It really does 😊
Look at Dis. OH YEAHHHHHHH 😘. 5am and this Old Man from North Carolina enjoying the video. Already had the Storch in my cart waiting for your maiden. I will be ordering. Capt Blaz as always great video. Do love me some Brothers. ✈️🧔💝💝💝
Good morning John. I had good time flying this bird. It will look even better in sunny day. I wish you one beautiful Sunday.
@@PetrincicBrosRC thanks Robert. Hope y'all have a great Sunday as well. ✈️🧔💝💝💝
Ooh yeah! Finally! What a beauty that Storch!
Pilot Robert, well done job with that battery and CG. Yes, I agree, that bird has been meant to be flying "slow & sexy"! ;-) And the wet landing was simply gorgeous!
Storks can fly well even in the rain :)
Thank you.
A brotherly salute from Slovakia.
The Storch looks pretty nice with the camouflage👍🏻
I love the silver under the plane.
Finally, non-combat aircraft, Fieseler Storch...great camouflage.
Its really sexi bird my friend.
What a beauty Robert & Blaz.....Enjoyment plus!
It really looks awesome. Cant wait to set flaps and slats good and to film really slow fly bys.
@@PetrincicBrosRC Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head
Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head
with apologies to the late BJTHOMAS
Raindrops are falling on my plane
And just like the guy whose feet are too big for his bed
Everything seems to fit
Those raindrops are falling on my Storch, it keeps flying…
'Cause I'm never gonna stop the flight by complaining
Because I salute
Ohhh Yeah, Nothing’s worrying me
Hello Captain Blaz and Robert . Great flying ,what a great job you did. You guys are great ! Greetings from New York ! Love you guys 👍😊
Great flying sounds like pop corn 🌽 on the wing of the rain.
It was really like pop corn 😁
Flaps and slats..that's beautiful.
Cant wait to get them to work good.
A big salute to both captain Blaz for building and filming the plane and to pilot Robert for flying the plane that looks like a pretty good plane shame about the rain though. A grate video guys keep flying fun going cheers!🛩✈🚁
It was even more exciting with the rain 😁
Brown out! Laughed out loud boys, you’re too funny!
Well, it happens from time to time 😁
Fantastic flight. Great job filming Captain Blaz
Thanks my friend.
Great looking bird ...nice job fellas as always ... salute!!
A unique plane on a rainy day and two brothers from Slovenia . Great 👍
Salute Captains! Great flight, Fieseler is beautiful STOL plane and for sure you will enjoy it on unprepared runways🤙🏼
Cant wait to fly it again my friend.
That is a good looking plane for sure!!! Great video guys!!!
Great video!! Somebody get Robert a belt haha! Keep up the great work guys!!!!
Hey guys if I had this particular Fiesler Storch I'd be cautious about water trapped under ze covering in places, and inspect this plane carefully. Use a pink or candy-mauve hair dryer, or a yellow one might be available, to match the paint job, and gently waft some warm air into Storch's important little places.. Big salute from London.
What a beauty! And the flight was sexy! And to finish some the rain on the plane 👌🤣👍
Zdravo. Tale Fiesler je legenda sam po sebi. Kot vidva :-)
Še kar snemava Matjaž 😁
The slats counter the flaps to make that plane STOL like crazy
Cant wait to set them good my friend.
Great maiden flight guys! One nice looking plane.
I saw the video, I clicked on, I was impressed. Great job building the Storch Captn. Blaz. It came out nicely. Great flying Pilot Robert, It looked like you were having fun. The rain was cool. You can hear it dropping on the drum like skin of your storch. Pretty coooool man!😀
You will love it my friend. It really looks so great once assembled.
You'll get those slats sorted out boss, I would suspect the trailing edge of the slat should only come off of the wing a couple of mm's. You may have to much travel on them... Been looking at these planes, ya know. "Its kinda ugly but such a unique design", kinda thing that makes it desirable for a true Aviation or RC enthusiast to wanna have one. This looks like one of the best examples I've seen as far as RC goes. Most are very basic or are kit/scratch builds. Haven't done a kit/scratch build in 15+ years... Keep it up guys, very much enjoy your posts.
Good Building Capt. Blaz. A great job getting such a technical plane to fly that good on first flight. This was a good TEST flight...lessons learned on the flight by Pilot Robert. Cannot wait to see next flight.
Nice maiden and a great sounding plane
I love you crazy guys :) great video my friends. Wonderful plane. Keep them coming !!
Thanks for kind words Scott.
I'm building a dancing wing storage right now I love this video thank you.
That is great Paul.
Nothing stops the Petronich bros dedicated to their hobby true hero’s in the hobby
No way my friend 😉
EXCELLENT Maiden Boys! Fantastic! I love it! Even more interesting in the rain! Capt. Blaz, your video is excellent too, thank you very much! Thank you boys. Regards, George
It was one amazing experience my friend.
That flight was surprisingly scale considering the electric motor, Pilot Robert. Beautiful plane! Salute to you, dear Petrincic Bros!
Flies beautifully !
REally good my friend. I must just set flaps and slats better.
This just proves that nothing can stop my favorite brothers! Neither rain nor snow or dark of night. Thanks for a great maiden and great filming! Best to you and your families always! Big salute from Chicago! Oh yeaaah!
It was such great filming my friend.
Hahahaha loud raindrops on that wing! Nice flying Pilot Robert!
It was pretty interesting to hear it my friend.
good maiden pilot robert shame about the rain!
That’s a nice looking Storch !
Even more beautiful in real my friend.
Great maiden pilot Robert & captain blaz, what a plane, one of my all time favourites that I'm yet to get in my hangar. Shame the rain cut it short we definitely need to see this aircraft again on your channel. Keep up the good work. Regards from the UK.
Cool vid. The camera today really captured how green everything still is like here in the states. it's like summer still. The clouds looked great today. Those beautiful mountains and wildlife in the background is fantastic too.
Ihr seid die Besten!!!👍
The rain visiting the air field was to hurry the brothers to shelter. And what a nice flight. An interesting model and paint design. Watching from Washington state, US. Big thumbs up. M.
The Storch is nice looking plane. I built a P-40e Flying Tiger from balsa. I too, made mine too fly on battery a 5000 mAh 6s.i had to modify a lot of things to accommodate the cg. But after 3 attempts down a grass runway that is not smooth the plane bounce on something and caught air so I pull back on elevator and the plane puller hard left into the ground. It is a 1600 mm meant to fly on a . 60 gas motor
Silly rain, always spoils the fun. What a beautiful plane, the design is so Orsum. Great maiden my friends. I need to find this plane for the hangar 👍🏻
But at the end it was one amazing filming again. Even with the rain 😊
That was amazing the sound of the rain on the plane 😍
I really loved it 👍
Absolutely FANTASTIC my friends!!!!! So great to see the maiden of the Storch, and to see you in the rain!! Please send some rain my way here in the Mojave! Cheers brothers and all the best!
Oh we can give you some rain my friend. We cant fly nothing for a week now. If not rain then we have heavy fog.
WOW a Fieseler Storch with the plane, you brought the crashed pilots home!
Oh yeah 😊
ah yes, the brownouts can create quite and emergency!! Hopefully after you have landed your plane! Nice aircraft by the way, I would like one for my collection.
Somethimes its really close my friend 😁
Great video guys got down just in time well done thanks
GOOD MORNING MY FRIENDS FROM SLOVENIA 🇸🇮. IVE BEEN LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING THIS VIDEO. I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED. GREAT LOOKING PLANE THANKS FOR FILMING BLAZ'AND THANKS FOR POSTING ROBERT. TAKE CARE AND HAVE A GREAT WEEK.🇬🇧 PETRINCIC BROS RC SLOVENIA 🇸🇮♥️💯👍✌️
Good morning Mike. I must set this baby better for the second flight to really fly it slow as it should.
Nice tatoo capt.blaz😎👍🏾
Great video boys, well flown and excellent zooming Blaz.Love your channel and your dedication to our hobby....Bravo!Best wishes from Australia😀.
That's a really interesting model with loads of potential to experiment makes for a fun model.
Oh yeah. Cant wait to fly good with flaps and slats. Should be interesting.
Will you combine the slates and flaps like the "Bison"?
@@MarkCroucherRC4fun I think they should work together. But on switch. So I can only use flaps if I want.
Very well done. A mini- documentary!! It will be interesting to see what you can do with this once it's dialed in.
Cant wait my friend to try again.
lol the camera man "your right"
that's a cool looking plane, the trailing edges are thick
Nice plane flew great but a lot quicker than i would have expected though even without the flaps and slats deployed..
way faster and not as floaty as I expected
bet you can tune it up- nice flight!
It will be next time when I will use flaps and slats good.
Remarkable sound from the rain on the wings, this is only with the foil covered planes and not with the foamies.
Dancing Wings Hobby has some remarkable balsa planes in their catalog now, and the quality is really a positive. And now we know they do fly well too!!!
I think a sexy little glow engine would be a great option too and no fiddling with the battery then.
Very interesting this
It was amazing. Theses balsa birds from DW Hobby are great stuff. Cant wait to see more.
Really enjoyed this one.....thanks guys!🎃
You guys made me click the link.....!
Super cool my friend 😎
Salute Team Petrincic Bros, fantastic maiden flight, welcome to the Secret Antenna Placement Society (SAPS) Antenna placement is everything. What a Great Storch, great flying Pilot Robert and way to Coach and zoom CPT Blaz, thank you, Jeff in LA USA
Very sexy flight, captains! I am assembling one of these now and will be using the steel plate weight. I am also going to try putting the esc alongside the motor mount. Other videos show a tendency to wing-over and spin and the slats seem to aggravate this.
👍 I to have had a few brown outs! It happens to the best of us my friends!
Oh yeah 😁
Hope you show this plane again with slats🇺🇸😁👍🏼 corrected. You guys rock.
I will my friend.
What could be better on a Sunday evening with a coldy in hand and watching the brothers with the sexy DH STORCH a very scale plane.
I hope you had great time my friend.
Great flight Hey!
beautiful model but I never thought the Storch was very good looking
Nice flight nice plane
Good maiden, was looking forward to it. Maybe Blaz should put a real motor on it and fly it for a true maiden once you guys figure it out. Good landing though…..
Looks like a cool plane ,
Saudações do brazil irmãos!!!
Dia de voar por aqui também!!
Que bela paisagem vocês tem ai hein, lindo pais.
Parabéns e continuem assim!!!
Oooohhhh !!!! Nooooooo !!!!!
Please! Please, please.
Change out that reciever.
OMG 😲 when I saw that orange devil in the beloved Storch My heart sank.
I am hoping that you didn't just get lucky one time. If this was mine, I would spend the $40 on a descent reciever.
But hay,,, that was one beautiful maiden flight and the rain was perfect, because as you know in this hobby it's always something. I am looking forward to seeing this bird again after you make the adjustments. Salute my friend.
I just had to try it my friend. Once and for all. And it works. I know now what to do.
@@PetrincicBrosRC I hope you are correct
Raindrops on Storches! Hahaha :-D
Good job guys!
Thanks my friend.
Super video great plane looks fantastic, can't wait till the funky characteristics are all sorted.....great job guys
A very nice plane.👍😍
😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂😂 If you would you got the plane up sooner 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂Blaz the remote options on the car is nice. BUT YOU NEED THE REMOTE TO USE IT 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂👍🏻✌🏻🖖🏻You Pilots are the best my friends 😃👍🏻
when i see balsa i get verrrrrrrry happppppppy , as you cant compare it to the flying meat trays - sorry but foam dont keep as well as balsa and ive had both for over thirty years been flying allsorts and the best for me still is balsa and Glow, but hey this electric balsa beast was so scale it hurts great flight there Pilot Robert and awesome build by Capt.Blaz, well done to the Petrinicic Bro'S Once Again top job Huys Big Salute :-))- oh yeahhh
Brown out in the pants lmao haha you guys are awesome haha
Somethimes really 😁
I'm really anxious for the second video showing the flight envelope with slats deployed.
Ps. I'd love to have this plane in foam.
Me too my friend. Will test them good next time.
Just beautiful
Nice plane and video !
What's dis eh, what's dis beautiful and sexy plane eh
awesome video and big salute!!!! Try operating the slats and flap together. Initially with zero elevator mixing then adjust your elevator mixing as you test fly. So at half flaps, half slats and full flaps, full slats. Same as Mike Pateys Scrappy in how both operate together. All the best
Salutes to our my brave Captains, putting up an umbrella in a thunderstorm.
Big salute back my friend.
The Storch had fixed non-retractable wing "slots". They are intended to aid lift at high angles of attack and slow speeds. Watch Kermit Weeks and other You Tube videos. It took special piloting skills to safely demonstrate it's extreme slow flight and STOL abilities. Some dihedral and differential ailerons will help lateral stability and control of adverse yaw of the model.
Great Job !
I kovee these guys!!
One of your best videos ever guys . Love that plane .
I was surprised you had the slats on full travel and rate actually . I thought maybe you would have them ona delay like landing flaps . Can't wait to see this pane again . Thanks .
I will set them with flaps next time.
You guys are cool. Great videos.
Thanks R.
Ye gods that battery location! :)
Beautiful plane, great flight. Thank you.
Grate job guys I have this plane love it. Better landing gear would be good. Grate job landing.
BEAUTIFUL PLANE EH?
I had added slats to my big balsa model and discovered thanx to some older experienced pilots the elevator setting going down for flaps has to be over rid by and UP elevator attitude when engaging the slats. When the slats are deployed the craft should be flying straight with a 12ꝰ attitude. Without flaps 2 or 3 degrees straight level is normal. Slats make you fly in a stall position without stalling. Now all you do is adjust your sink rate by throttle only giving you a 3 point touchdown almost every time.
Great video! It's one of your longer ones, but was over all too soon. Great tip about antenna placement. To repeat what others have said: Slats are beneficial for high angles of attack to delay the onset of a stall. New meaning for the term "brown out!" (NC/USA)
I forgot about the time once more my friend 😊
Wow you landed just in time...lol
Oh yeah 😁
When the slat opens it creates the slot. In high angles of attack the air goes through the slot and maintains contact with the upper surface of the wing preventing a stall. Me 109 had automatic slats that would open in tight turns to prevent stalling. So with the slat open short take off with high angle of attack is possible.
I have seen that on ME 109. Awesome stuff.
@@PetrincicBrosRC First: The shape of these slats is complete nonsense. Second: If not fixed, slats usually move back and forth parallel to the chord of the airfoil, they don't tilt. Third: The gap at the top edge of the slat should be a lot smaller than the opening on the bottom side to make them work.
Me 262 also had these slats. It would appear that Willy Messerschmidt liked using them on his designs.
