I'm inclined to agree with Corny.....if Tony Khan gave Heyman the booking role, stayed out of the way, and gave absolutely zero pushback unless network execs said something that was detrimental to the tv product...I think Heyman could right the ship. But I'll be honest with myself....it's a pipe dream, it'll never happen. Every single opportunity AEW had to push ahead of WWE has been squandered. It's outright offensive that AEW had everything handed to them on a silver platter and chose not to take advantage.
I agree. People seem to forget he was in charge of RAW around 2018-20 if I remember. It was different but I wouldn't say it's better. I do know The House of Black would be the top faction there lol.
Paul Heyman is the best. I remember Wrestlemania 3 when he beat The Macho Man for the intercontinental title. It was a small package. He then teamed with the British Bulldogs to defeat The Hart Foundation and crooked referee Mike Chioda. He returned for the main event to slam hulk hogan with special referee Andre The Giant. His beautiful speech at the end of the night when he grabbed the mic and yelled, "Yo Adrian, I've done it. Wooooooo."
I remember when he was bleeding in the Sharpshooter and wouldn't quit. And the time he took 10 singapore cane shots to the back from Sandman as the fans watched in horror and he gained their respect. Let's not forget when he won the 2004 Royal Rumble from the entrant one spot.
Just don't let it distract you from the fact that in 1998, The Undertaker threw Mankind off Hell In A Cell, and plummeted 16 ft through an announcer's table.
Paul can't fix it. AEW has an issue that is plaguing the whole industry - "wrestlers" that have the emotional fortitude of a teenager and are bad actors and just keep diving around the ring.
If Paul even showed up on AEW as nothing more than talent to manage someone & cut promo's, the ratings would blow ! Paul is Gold & he knows what he's doing. Especially with wrestling
Heyman would help, a lot. But what AEW lacks is a level of seriousness from the workers than only a complete overhaul of the roster could revert especially when it comes to the top stars. MJF is the exception, the elite is the trend in that company and i think if tomorrow Tony Khan would have the guts to cut ties with them, everything would improve overnight since the boys would have better examples to look up on rather than people who go to business for themselves at the expense of the betterment of the company they work for
I don't know why people backstage fantasy book for AEW. AEW has (or had) Jim Ross, the veteran wrestling minds of Dean Malenko, Jake the Snake, Dustin Rhodes, Big Show, Mark Henry, CM Punk, and William Regal. Not to mention, Jim Cornette literally giving away advice on his podcast for FREE. And Khan STILL books the way he does and allows guys like the Elite and Hangman ignore advice and "wrestle" according to their vision. Nothing will help AEW until Khan humbles himself and listens to common sense.
Exactly, Paul would have to be motivated. He has always said, "Vince motivates me". He love getting over the guys they say can't get over, being a "heyman guy" means he goes to bat for you bts and on-camera. I don't know if he would be motivated, he liked helping Vince, I don't think he sees Tony Khan the same way. Plus he's looking to retire at some point he said.
@@socialistbatman Even Heyman can't help you if you have absolutely NO personality what-so ever. 90 percent is on YOU. The other 10 percent they can handle but at the end of the day it's on YOU to get whatever over.
Two words: Smackdown Six When he was able to just book without having to worry about running the business end, Heyman established Smackdown as the "pro wrestling" show as opposed to Raw as the "sports entertainment" show. As far as I'm concerned, that brief era of Smackdown was just as much fun to watch as a wrestling fan as Ric Flair's booking run in 1989 WCW.
Agreed.... But Heyman could of still built an actually compelling show around: 1. Bryan 2. Punk 3. Miro 4. MJF 5. Starks 6. Hobbes HM: Ethan Page, Adam Page, Darby Allin Where the less established guys could get more over instead of less over with good storylines. Add credible jobbers who look good and can work (eg.Tony Nese, Andrade) and a tag team division that makes sense. That could have been a good 2 hour show each week.

He also for some reason thinks he is good at Pr and does too much press only to not anwser most questions people actually want to know its just not good all around I wouldn't be surprised if they are losing tens of millions or more yearly they are not making money its sustaining off of Tony Khans money he gets from his dad on his personal account not money AEW has made.
All Petite “Wrestling” could hire Paul Heyman Paul Levesque and Paul Hogan and it wouldn’t change a damn thing. Tony Khan is a mark who doesn’t listen, who hires marks like Hangma’am Page who don’t listen. Regal admitted as much.
Yeah this question is actually a huge example of a massive problem wrestling has had for decades i.e. severely overelying on past guys (obviously i know Heyman is around but he's not exactly a spring chicken) constantly. Wrestling is dead mainstream because of looking too the past and not building for a future hence the multitude of issues wrestling has now. Fans are also part of the problem i.e. "I miss the AE, the 80's, Oh look Austin came back" etc.
The stories were better in the 1980's but that required a thin veneer of Kayfabe. Watching some of the "best of" matches on Peacock opened my eyes to the reality of the matches. Go back and watch Flair vs. Harley Race, Flair vs. Sting, or most of the 1980s stuff. It is boring in an age of MMA. It was even boring for the time. The Road Warriors popped so hard because they were fast aggressive and completely different. The matches of the 1980s would flop hard in the modern age. Yet, a lot of fans still hold those matches as holy.
Paul had a full roster with ECW, so he can handle one. And he was able to make the product interesting. I never was bored with that promotion, even when the major stars like Taz, Sabu, and Shane Douglas left. Just don't let Paul handle money or business. As far as what the product would look like, you probably did not watch or follow ECW. He provided what the people wanted. It was not all weapons all the time. It had great technical matches, brought Lucha Libre to America, had highflyers, Japanese Strong Style, traditional wrassling, and other forms and the ECW crowd ate it up giving "This is awesome!" chants to all of them. Remember, New Jack left SMW and went to become the most popular wrestler in ECW. That's what Paul E can do.
I want to love AEW, I truly do. They have provided so many great moments and memorable matches for me, as well as given me a newfound love for wrestling at this stage in my life, but it is feeling more and more like a disconnect these days. Ever since Miro dropped the strap to Sammy, it's kinda never felt the same....
I would actually LOVE to see what Paul Heyman could do with AEW. Obviously it couldn’t be any worse, and only get better. Not sure he could turn it around and have it work for years to come but it would definitely be a watchable show for a while. Great question and dang I wanna see it happen
I think he can't fix it. Tony Khan hates when someone wants to tell him what should be done and he wants everyone to see his vision only. Vince even when at his most senile state had some flexibility in his thought process. The biggest problem with AEW is Tony Khan and the real problem is he can't fire himself!!
@@stephano1019 WWE beat WCW not because they are the better product but because they are the better business. Vince had the common sense to put experienced people on positions of power and let youngsters at the time like the rock, stone cold, Undertaker etc be the face when WCW was relying on old heads like Hogan, macho man etc.
Two things! 1) At this stage, why the heck would he even bother. Specially knowing how bad die-hard fans of AEW can be/already are. 2) He would demand/want/need total control (creative at least) and that's simply not gonna happen He is better in WWE right now, hardly doing much and (hopefully) getting paid handsomely!
based on paul's hall of fame speech, maybe he was blowing smoke, but I think he's at this point in his life very happy with where he is -- he respects HHH, likes are things are being run, likely has alot of say backstage the headache that would come from "fixing AEW" is prob just not worth it to him
Paul has too good of a job right now. He isn't doing all the heavy lifting like he was with Brock. Some nights he doesn't even talk at all, just makes great facials while he lurking.
100%. Easiest job he could get at this point while still getting national tv time and paid. Gets along with the current regime and can probably cherry pick who he wants to manage on screen. That’s a lot to give up at his age, especially when AEW talent already doesn’t listen to Jim Ross or any of the other old school vets there.
Tony Khan has legitimately some of the best veterans in the business working for him, like Jim Ross, Arn Anderson, Jerry Lynn, Mark Henry, Dean Malenko, Christopher Daniels, and now former employees like William Regal, he chose The Elite over all of them. The Elite have like at most a decade of wrestling experience, the actual veterans have worked in WWE, NWA, WCW, TNA, ROH, and some worked in the business for more than 2 decades. What's the point of hiring Paul Heyman if Tony doesn't have the balls to shelve The Elite in favor of veteran minds?
It's interesting that after AEW starts up, Vince gave Roman Reigns and the world title to Paul and now you can see his influence over the best thing in wrestling with no question of him ever leaving WWE.
Heyman did a lot with almost no roster in ECW at times due to various factors, so creatively, Heyman could make something out of nothing. People would have to be on board, and many in AEW are so sure of their style that it would never mesh.
@@EazyE11 Heyman was never a money guy and was said to have a gambling problem, so he would not be given free-reign with money. The fact that Heyman got people to work without paying them on time (if at all) would work in AEwWs favor because Tony Khan has the opposite issue where he is paying people not to show up and work.
If Paul Heyman had had Tony Khan's father's money in 1994, ECW would have been formidable. They came along at just the right time for that era and inspired the Attitude Era in many ways. I'm sure Paul would do a better job than Tony, and after all these years, maybe he's mellowed out a bit on the more insane in ring stuff that ECW did back then. The promos and the storytelling in the early days of ECW, probably 1994-98 or so, was terrific because they still had the talent on their roster to do it. By 99, everyone, including Shane Douglas, their top heel, had left to make more money. But I think if Paul and Jim could coexist in a wrestling company, it would be terrific. Unfortunately, I think both of them would need people to manage the finances of the company, because both of them struggled with that.
That might be correct, but, I think, any other company (ECW or WCW) not WWE, will be a victim of its own success and will not survive on the modern time

TK tried to hire him. Corny flatly refused the job, partly because of who else Tony hired but mainly because he doesn't want to work for anyone but himself.
@@philloomer Im in NZ we only had TNA on tv here briefly when Hogan was there. It had a shot during that period to grow ircc more international tv markets opened up for TNA then too but the horrible booking killed the chance it had. AEW's current trend is leading that way too which is kinda sad.
I actually wouldn't bet money that WWE won't go out of business within the next 5-10 years. The bill for decades of the business world choosing corporate politics, dishonest (or legitimately stupid) financial games, and general hubris over good honest customer-oriented business seems to be coming due, and everyone is panicking. Irresponsible corporate spending is a hot topic. Record profits? How much of that is legitimate grassroots funding from customers who actually want the product? If a bunch of hatchetmen in advertising and television who couldn't care less about prestige or whatever really scrutinize WWE's worth, how will they fare? We live in a world where large companies are routinely losing billions practically overnight. If WWE's wealth isn't real (that is to say, grounded in legitimate audience viewership and willingness to spend on their product), they could evaporate. People will say that no one could have seen it coming, but that's just because everyone is trapped in the fantasy world that is modern business culture.
Tony sees it as HIS wrestling world and he would NEVER let anyone lese control it. Its the very same issue VKM had. AEW is Tony Kahn's favorite toy and no one else gets to play with it. Maybe if his father gets mad at him, instead of being grounded, he lets someone else run AEW.
I love Chris Jericho as a professional in the business. He's solid but he's in his Tom Brady years. He's one of the best in the books but how much pull does he really have with Tony Kahn? Corny is pretty accurate imo of what Paul Heyman could have done.
The presentation of AEW is a reflection of a boss that doesn't enforce rules or standards. That's what AEW needs. A boss that actually put a stop to a lot of the circus, clownshow nonsense. Jericho and The Elite would be target #1.
The only positive thing I could say about Heyman going to AEW is he wouldn't go broke the same way (buying tv time). His on screen talent should not be confused for his ability to run a wrestling company and if he went to AEW almost nothing would be different. Largely it's the same model as ECW already: the roster is built the same way, the "top" talent is given a free hand to do what they want, some of the boys are doing "office" work. I'm sure if can be described better then I am but Heyman is a better agent polishing a thing then creative running it. Dixie not giving up a piece of TNA is just a story, probably that Heyman came up with. In the fall out with Billy Corgan we found out there were pieces all over town. My speculation is that Paul came up with that story to baby face himself while he was never really in consideration on the other side. Instead is was probably offered something lower like a place on the creative "team" and that's what he turned down if he was ever even offered it.
I remember Heyman booked Raw a few years ago and it was way better than it is now. Heyman would probably walk out on Khan because Tony Khan is a moron.
If I could get Tony's ear for 30 minutes, I could convince him to hire me as creative and I know, KNOW, I could get AEW back to the million viewer mark within 6 months.
Jim always complains about how thin the WWE tag team roster is these days but Paul Heyman's Smackdown tag roster was probably thinner and far more captivating.
Paul Heyman would help a lot, but he has to want to help, and TK needs to let Paul run creative. Paul is tight with Triple H, and he liked working with Vince. He didn’t want to work with Dixie, so he gave her an outrageous offer so she’d turn him down. I can see TK giving Paul a small piece of the company, but the problem is that TK is living his childhood dream, and I don’t think that TK cares about whether it makes a profit, so I can’t see him giving Paul some power.
I would have to say no he can't fix it and no he won't even try to. First, Paul Heyman is 57 years old and his current gig pays him extremely well and he is doing almost nothing and has zero stress that comes with running a business and/or promotion plus his money is guaranteed. Why would he give that up? I know I wouldn't. Secondly, AEW has made some serious mistakes that they might not be able to recover from. There is a point of no return and AEW is getting close to it. Tony Khan's booking sucks and isn't helping anything. Another problem that might surface if it gets extremely bad is TBS and TNT. They won't hesitate to pull the plug and sell AEW to the highest bidder. This will also take down Ring of Honor too since AEW bought them out.
I dunno why people ask questions about alternate universes that veer so much from reality. Like wondering what JCP would have been like if Magnum didn't have his accident is one thing. This one requires AEW to be something other than a company that exists to buy the owner friends while he plays fantasy booker on a grand scale and for Paul Heyman to be in a different place in life than he is. It's too much of an idealized scenario to be a worthwhile thought exercise.

No, but Heyman would convince people he could.
Regal and Punk bailed out on Tony. Heyman could make Tony the Ultimate Mark!! Thank the good Lord $#it$tain doesn't try it.
@@markcampbell2702 plus you know Paul would ask an owning share of the company
I agree. People seem to forget he was in charge of RAW around 2018-20 if I remember. It was different but I wouldn't say it's better. I do know The House of Black would be the top faction there lol.
It’d be interesting to see how he’d coexist with the EVPs.
Push them out! They do good business or get gone! And knowing Heyman and his hustling ability and connects? The EVPs will be M.I.A. in no time!
He'd fire them the first day more than likely
He wouldn't.
Paul would drop an ultimatum. Get in line or get out. He will not take that kind of BS.
he would fired the evps
Paul Heyman is the best. I remember Wrestlemania 3 when he beat The Macho Man for the intercontinental title. It was a small package. He then teamed with the British Bulldogs to defeat The Hart Foundation and crooked referee Mike Chioda. He returned for the main event to slam hulk hogan with special referee Andre The Giant. His beautiful speech at the end of the night when he grabbed the mic and yelled, "Yo Adrian, I've done it. Wooooooo."
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I remember when he was bleeding in the Sharpshooter and wouldn't quit.
And the time he took 10 singapore cane shots to the back from Sandman as the fans watched in horror and he gained their respect.
Let's not forget when he won the 2004 Royal Rumble from the entrant one spot.
Just don't let it distract you from the fact that in 1998, The Undertaker threw Mankind off Hell In A Cell, and plummeted 16 ft through an announcer's table.
No, no that's Paul E if Russo was booking him
🤣😅
Paul can't fix it. AEW has an issue that is plaguing the whole industry - "wrestlers" that have the emotional fortitude of a teenager and are bad actors and just keep diving around the ring.
Wow. Pretty much.
Oh please. Ridiculous.
If Paul even showed up on AEW as nothing more than talent to manage someone & cut promo's, the ratings would blow ! Paul is Gold & he knows what he's doing. Especially with wrestling
I think Paul E. from the early 2000’s Smackdown days could turn AEW into a money printer.
Heyman would help, a lot. But what AEW lacks is a level of seriousness from the workers than only a complete overhaul of the roster could revert especially when it comes to the top stars. MJF is the exception, the elite is the trend in that company and i think if tomorrow Tony Khan would have the guts to cut ties with them, everything would improve overnight since the boys would have better examples to look up on rather than people who go to business for themselves at the expense of the betterment of the company they work for
What nonsense.
Don't forget Sting. He's been around for the highs and lows of wrestling companies like being around the the highs of WCW and the lows as well as TNA.
The smackdown 6 is paul heyman's greatest work.
Curtis Axel looked like he had some promise with Heyman
@@socialistbatman Even Heyman can't help you if you have absolutely NO personality what-so ever. 90 percent is on YOU. The other 10 percent they can handle but at the end of the day it's on YOU to get whatever over.
Vince did help ecw keep afloat for a little longer
Just let that promotion bleed and die. Rather start from scratch with another promotion instead of prolonging the life of a cesspool of a promotion.
Two words: Smackdown Six
When he was able to just book without having to worry about running the business end, Heyman established Smackdown as the "pro wrestling" show as opposed to Raw as the "sports entertainment" show. As far as I'm concerned, that brief era of Smackdown was just as much fun to watch as a wrestling fan as Ric Flair's booking run in 1989 WCW.
Ya but Brian is the only one in AEW with the talent, experience and personality of any of those 6.
There are no 6 guys in Hacksonville with the combined cred of just Chavo, never mind the rest of the OG Six
Agreed.... But Heyman could of still built an actually compelling show around:
1. Bryan
2. Punk
3. Miro
4. MJF
5. Starks
6. Hobbes
HM: Ethan Page, Adam Page, Darby Allin
Where the less established guys could get more over instead of less over with good storylines.
Add credible jobbers who look good and can work (eg.Tony Nese, Andrade) and a tag team division that makes sense.
That could have been a good 2 hour show each week.

AEW is a wrestling company owned by a huge mark and that's the problem
Yeah to me AEW is doomed it is just a matter of when and not if Politics are always gonna run wild there based on who Tony likes and doesn't like rather then what is best for business and he will never give up creative its the whole reason he started the company he has talked alot about how he used to book for years with his Efed online.

I gotta say, Paul Heymans smackdown was my favorite smackdown era.
I love the thumbnail and how Heyman looks here. Hahaha!
Twist: this question was sent in by Tony Khan and will now use this audio to try to convince his dad to give him the money needed to buy Heyman away.
Apparently Jim Ross taught Heyman a lot about how you run a wrestling tv show
Yeah I remember hearing that Ross was a big mentor to him during their wcw days in the early 90s
Paul makes it no secret that his mentors in WCW were Dusty and Jim Ross
Paul Heyman, George Scott, Eddie Graham, Pat Paterson and Dusty Rhodes could all be working in AEW and TK would still want to have the book.
HE’S THE BOOKER OF THE YEAR! How hard is that for you to understand?
I would actually LOVE to see what Paul Heyman could do with AEW. Obviously it couldn’t be any worse, and only get better. Not sure he could turn it around and have it work for years to come but it would definitely be a watchable show for a while. Great question and dang I wanna see it happen
Such a good episode
Jake Stone Jake The Snake from Stone mountain Georgia is that where the name came from?
I think he can't fix it. Tony Khan hates when someone wants to tell him what should be done and he wants everyone to see his vision only. Vince even when at his most senile state had some flexibility in his thought process. The biggest problem with AEW is Tony Khan and the real problem is he can't fire himself!!
And yo know TK is a lost cause when even Vince on his worst day would be willing to receive advice or suggestions even if it meant he would reject t
Nothing will fix AEW except for giving Kenny and the Cucamonga Clown Brigade the boot
They need to make a rule "you do a flippy move and you're canned."
Two things!
1) At this stage, why the heck would he even bother. Specially knowing how bad die-hard fans of AEW can be/already are.

He is better in WWE right now, hardly doing much and (hopefully) getting paid handsomely!

Jim showing Paul that respect made my heart grow three times bigger
I don't think Jim ever hated Paul the booker or Paul the manager.
based on paul's hall of fame speech, maybe he was blowing smoke, but I think he's at this point in his life very happy with where he is -- he respects HHH, likes are things are being run, likely has alot of say backstage the headache that would come from "fixing AEW" is prob just not worth it to him
The way Travis draws Tony and Heyman here it’s just perfect
Paul has too good of a job right now. He isn't doing all the heavy lifting like he was with Brock. Some nights he doesn't even talk at all, just makes great facials while he lurking.
100%. Easiest job he could get at this point while still getting national tv time and paid. Gets along with the current regime and can probably cherry pick who he wants to manage on screen. That’s a lot to give up at his age, especially when AEW talent already doesn’t listen to Jim Ross or any of the other old school vets there.
Also isn''t he now like , 3rd or 4th in line to take over things if something happens to Hunter? Maybe even higher than that.
@@Dankbanana1 Maybe on paper, but Stephanie would never allow Heyman to get into that spot lol.
Except that he didn't pay them.
@@EazyE11well, at least if he's playing with the Khan's money he won't stiff the boys?
ECW roster was miles ahead of AEW, they just constantly left.
@@EazyE11 He wouldn't have to be the one paying them with a billionaire backing them in the ultimate point. They also agreed to work for free.

If Paul had that financial backing in the ECW days who knows where that could have went because he had the talented wrestlers.
One thing's for sure, The Kliq are NOT the long term solution for the WWE's woes!
Ok I want this now, SD 6 was 20 years ago. Paul E had two decades rest. It's time...
Paul would babyface himself and ask for half the company just so Tony can turn it down so he can say "welp, i tried" 😂

Thought Jim would've gone with either "sue the spots off a leopard" or "sue the stripes off a zebra".
The art for this one is hilarious! 😂
The presentation of AEW is a reflection of a boss that doesn't enforce rules or standards. That's what AEW needs. A boss that actually put a stop to a lot of the circus, clownshow nonsense. Jericho and The Elite would be target #1.
One of the nicer things Jim has said about anyone. He basically said yes Paul could have done it at one point.
Paul heyman's birthday is 6 days before jim
Paul Heyman could rectify a few things. He might even be able to get CM Punk to come back.

Even if Tony gives somebody, anybody, full creative control, you have to wonder - would the wrestlers listen to the new guy?
The booking at AEW is still not good- and its not just Tony. I think those EVPs have a hand in it too.
This will also take down Ring of Honor too since AEW bought them out.
my head hurts from the Stephen P New spot, Jim was all over the place on that one lol
BUM--BA-DA-DA-DUM...BA-DA-DA-DUM!🤣🤣🤣
I dunno why people ask questions about alternate universes that veer so much from reality. Like wondering what JCP would have been like if Magnum didn't have his accident is one thing. This one requires AEW to be something other than a company that exists to buy the owner friends while he plays fantasy booker on a grand scale and for Paul Heyman to be in a different place in life than he is. It's too much of an idealized scenario to be a worthwhile thought exercise.
