Gloria is an out-of-work party girl who, after getting kicked out of her apartment by her boyfriend, is forced to leave her life in New York and move back to her hometown. When news reports surface that a giant creature is destroying Seoul, South Korea, Gloria gradually comes to the realization that she is somehow connected to this far-off phenomenon. As events begin to spin out of control, Gloria must determine why her seemingly insignificant existence has such a colossal effect on the fate of the world.

Is it weird that I not only really like Ann Hathaway but was completely unaware of the supposed massive online hate train for her
Ann Hathaway was ridiculously bad in this movie. She did a terrible imitation of Krysten Ritter from Jessica Jones.
It's a pretty serious movie about alcoholism and domestic abusers dressed up as a cooky comedy slash kaiju movie. It's not a bad movie, but it's such a weird combination. If you advertise it as an action comedy or as a monster movie, many people are going to be disappointed.
Dude, fuck genres, people should enjoy a story just for it self, right? Good Movie Period
Genres are useful when you're finding your audience, though. If you advertise this as a cooky comedy, people will go see it when they're in the mood for something fun and light-hearted. That can really sabotage your movie's success.
That mason jar is actually full of gin, and every time Christy takes a drink a giant monster in Korea starts reviewing movies.
"My drinking problem cost me my job."
"Oh yeah? I lost my wife and kids because of mine."
"My drinking caused me to turn into a giant monster and destroy most of North Korea."
"... you win."
My only complaint about this movie is how it was marketed. The trailers would make you believe that this is an action/comedy. And it is anything but. This is a DRAMA about addiction and abusive relationships that depends HUGELY on metaphors which basically is what the monsters are. And I sadly think this is going to go over a lot of peoples heads and it clearly has judging from all three of these people review of this movie. Because they are still referring to it as a comedy...
Nacho Vigalondo directed one of the best sci fi movies of this century, The Timecrimes, he elevated the time travel sub genre, so it makes sense that he would do something weird and original with another sci fi story.
Really looking foward to this.
i loved timecrimes, perhaps not quite enough to label it best sci-fi of the century, but as soon as i heard this was his kid, i was sold.

It's a great film, but very challenging in a different way than Timecrimes.
Jason Sudekis in this is absolutely fantastic his performance completely stunned me loved every second
This movie, to me, is multi-layered and is best viewed knowing absolutely nothing about it. I just understood it to be a monster movie with a human story involved. Seeing the film without the filter of preconception was amazing, to say the least. My friend and I were left speechless and we told each other, that we needed to really think about it and see it again and go into its many layers, of drama, humor, trauma, childhood coping mechanisms and attraction to horror and monster stories and coming of age and ... on and on and on. A masterpiece that probably will not be truly appreciated for a long time.
I love Anne Hathaway i just dont understand why so many people hate her.

I agree with Marc Maron's take on this Hathaway backlash. If you have problem liking Anne Hathaway, it says more about you as a person than about her as a person.

I have no issue with people not loving her, or not being a particular fan of her acting, but there's never been one slightly rational reason presented to me why she deserves hate - especially considering how many genuinely seedy/reprehensible Hollywood figures there actually are out there; she's, comparatively done, like...nothing wrong. Granted, I think the internet harassment has slightly subsided, but it's pathetic that it became as big as it did, to the point of impacting her career/self-esteem (which was already presumably pretty fragile).

Are you guys seriously distracted by the fact that she drinks from a jar? I drink from a jar too, because it's big and thus you don't have to refill it as often. So does Adam from YourMovieSucks, and I don't hear anyone complaining about that. It's smart and efficient. Get over it.

The giant mason jar is really distracting, sure it's a jar, people drink from them, but it's fucking hilariously huge. I feel like I'm missing the joke, seriously wtf?

I guess if I actually watched these reviews rather than listened to them while being online, I would be distracted.
I don't walk out very often but I disliked every character never care what happened to anyone. No one laughed or chuckled in the audience I shared it with. I think I stayed close to the end (it seemed interminable) I began early having feelings of wanting to escape but kept hoping...sigh. But then I didn't want to give the cast and crew the satisfaction of caring about this drivel. Then to my surprise there was a message on my phone from Anne Hathaway apologizing for not entertaining me and for totally pissing me off.
1st half - "Pretty good, kinda funny."
2nd half - "What the fuck am i watching."

really like about 50% of the movie. But i hated Anne's charterer, and then everyone one else just turned in to shitty people or just dropped off screen. like, im rooting for no one in this film, i hated them all to the point i didn't care how it ended i just wanted it to end

So on imdb it says Action, Comedy, Sci-Fi the only thing i got from the trailer was comedy. And BAD comedy. Then i Watch the review and you says drama?!?!?! WTF You shit on two other movies and praise this one, i don't get it. seeing the trailer for this one i had no idea what kinda of movie it was, i would think it was a strait up comedy, with terrible overacting cause that's what i saw in the trailer.

That's why you WATCH THE ACTUAL MOVIE before forming an OPINION. You'd think it would be obvious by now watching the movie is a requirement, this isn't a _trailer_ review it's a _movie_ review.
