Hey hey, just found you here a week ago and now just learned of this…. Congratulations to both of you!! Wow what a great story and begining to your adventure. Sharp young man. May God bless you both richly in your years ahead!! Ok I’ll get back to the video now. 😊
So true. I’m a new etsy shop selling stickers so my profit is only $1.20-1.60 per item. Unfortunately 90% of people only buy one item at a time and profit would be much higher with even 2 items! Currently I’m spending as much in ads as I’m getting in revenue which equals a major loss. But only 10% of my orders have been organic. Maybe the more sales you have, the higher your visibility? I’m thinking of just continuing ads through the holidays and then stopping next year and see what happens. I’m currently at 51 sales so hopefully I can boost that number a bit but it sucks to feel like the only way I get visibility is with ads and I make sales but I’m losing money because each click is $.30-.45 on a low profit item anyhow. Thanks for this video! It was helpful in me figuring out some next steps :)
Congratulations on the engagement and gosh, I wish you shared some personal stories a bit more often - obviously with this POD / e-commerce content it shouldn't really matter, but seeing you this happy made me feel happy and I wish you guys all the best for your future together! 🧡
Congratulations on your engagement. I have been married for over 24 years. I totally love the fact that you share so much to help us on Etsy. I am a Relationship Coach so If you ever need help please let me know . I also watch your channel and I apply to my Etsy store . I run $5 ads as well , and I had one sale within 2 weeks . Thank you for all that you do and share 🥰
You want to include that the paid sales boost the listings, which lead to more organic sales. I agree the time of year matters too. Ads during Q4 are amazing.
So right now my conversation rate is 4.8 with Etsy ads. I'm a new store (3 months in) and Etsy ads has been AMAZING for my store so far! I run $25 a day because I have over 300 products.
How long have you run the ads at $25/ month? And did you advertise every product or only certain products? Because I tried $10/day and got only favorites but no sales and I stopped it at 2 weeks. Then I tried it again and results. So this time I'm trying $20 a day for a week and no results How long do you suggest that I run $25/ day to get sales? I would really appreciate your response
And THANK YOU, for telling us to only run the ads on higher profit items. That is a very important factor, that I have not heard others mention when speaking about Etsy Ads.
Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! You just made about 2 billion guys start to cry 😭 uncontrollably....your man is the luckiest guy in this whole flat world 🎉
I’ve used the Etsy ads on cards which are only £2.50 each so I was at a loss cos the ads were costing more than the sales. The good thing was I got sales and got great reviews so I’d say it was worth it but now I’ve stopped the ads, no sales cos there’s literally thousands of pages of cards so mine aren’t getting seen
What stood out to me that I’m surprised you didn’t take into account, is that the longer the month went on, the more sales you got. Like it got momentum. My takeaway would have been to go for at least another 2 weeks to see if that trend continued. Congrats on the engagement!
I actually did keep it running a few weeks later(I mentioned in the video I forgot to take ads off). I am looking to revisit this potentially later this year as Etsy has seemingly changed the way the ads work. Thank you! :)
Hi Heather, Congrats to you on the engagement, I have 300 products so $5 a day doesn't go far. How many products did you advertise? If you advertise a few products maybe $5 a day will get you some orders. But with 300 or more products you most likely will NOT get any ROI
Thank you! I had the ads on all of my items(400 items) because I wanted to see how this would do if I left it up to the algorithm to choose which items were best for $5 ads and it seemingly did just that over time which was neat to see. I am looking to do a second video later this year on a more strategic approach on my bestseller items and see how this does in comparison, stay tuned!
This was a great video and good experiment. I think as long as you aren't losing money.. its worth tinkering with ads. Knowing how to properly target and push your ads is like an art. If you designate a small amount of money like in this video and continue experimenting.. then your skills in making ads will get finessed and also it will help your algorithm.
Heather the day you get the sale is not the day the ad converted… that’s why it looks like you got more sales are you carried on with the month. Look at the dates on which the ads were clicked vs the day they actually went through the sale.
I’d love to hear more about how your long distance relationship worked out! My boyfriend lives in NewJersey and I’m in California (I know, can’t get much farther than that), and hearing yours worked out in spite of covid gives me hope
i love awkward couples! I am a wedding photographer and love all the cheesiness u spilled here and all the education u provide as I begin my etsy shop selling journey
What turns me off of ads is the fact that you get charged 12% of the order total, on top of your Ad spend and the other Etsy fees. The 12% applies to all items in your store, not just the items you're advertising. Depending on your profit margins, 12% of the order total can be a LOT. For example, if your profit margin is 50% without ads, that extra 12% fee is really 24% of your profits! Not only that, the 12% is applied to subsequent orders from the same customer even if they don't click another ad! If you turn off ads completely, you will still be charged 12% if someone who previously clicked an ad makes a purchase. I once had a customer click on an ad for socks, but didn't buy them. They came back months later and bought a hoodie, and I was charged ad fees on that sale, even though the hoodie was never advertised. Apparently my SEO works fine on its own, as I've never seen an increase in sales or orders while using ads, just an increase in costs due to the 12% and daily budget. So the ads have not been a justifiable investment for me. So optimize your SEO and save yourself the extra 12% in unnecessary fees. Between the steep fee, and the fact that it's recurring for unrelated items makes ads a no-go for me.
Good catch. I did the maths years ago on Etsy ads also. Used to have $10 budget day and i found out that only Etsy was making money from it and i was working for less. So i just removed the ads and kept my prices abit lower.
Interesting - I'm actually noticing a 2 week cycle of sales activity too.... I haven't been running ads (until a few days ago - thought I'd give it a shot)... but I have been noticing the 2 week cycle for over a year. I also have a POD biz.
I’m confused, I thought Etsy ads were automatically turned on for shops making over $10k. I didn’t know you could turn them off at that point?? Also, do said large shops have control over an ad budget since they’re required to run ads? Right now I’m doing $1/day and I’m worried they’ll make me spend more $$ if my shop grows and offsite ads are required for me.
There are two types of ads to run: offsite ads(usually automatically turned on that you have the option to turn off in settings if you make less than $10K a year, more than 10K a year it's now required) and Etsy ad campaigns in your marketing section on your Etsy seller account that you can turn on for as many dollars as you'd like per day. As far as Offsite Ads go and my knowledge, you do not have control, Etsy runs this for you based on what's selling and they run ads on items for you. I personally like Offsite Ads and the cost per purchase of a conversion is under $5 on average which is really good for advertising as far as retail goes(average e-com rates for apparel can be closer to $10 to $15 per conversion). Etsy's website states for Offsite Ads, "If your Etsy shop has made less than $10,000 USD on Etsy in the past 365 days, Offsite Ads are optional. However, if you choose to use this service, you’ll get advertising run by our team of experts without any upfront investment, which is a great opportunity to grow your business." The article is here to learn how to switch this off: help.etsy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000338367-How-Etsy-s-Offsite-Ads-Work-?segment=selling Disclaimer: I do not work for Etsy and I would contact their support for further questions on how to switch off if needed. Their rules do change every now and then so I try to provide accurate data but their website is always best to go to. With this all being said, I will make a video on my opinion on Offsite Ads soon here just to give why I personally like it and go over my statistics.
Heather-You have spooky timing! I just tried Ads again, and yes, traffic has improved greatly, tons of “Favorites” and my first sale from Ads within 2 days. However, your point about High Profit Margin is really key, I’m going to look at financials today and see how to improve. If I could, there are 2 Vids I would love to see 1-Working out Profit Margins, I feel lost with all of the fees, shipping etc. 2-Offsite Ads. I don’t know anything about them, but in this past week, I’ve had two Sales-both from Australia-for the same item. Of course, Etsy charges ANOTHER fee for that. Any advice on this would be great. And CONGRATULATIONS on the engagement-I keeping my fingers crossed that you will purchase some wedding/bachelorette items from Etsy stores like mine! 😃

@@itsheatherstudio Hi Heather-Me again! Thank you for your response- I have to let you know that I have followed all of your advice and my Etsy shop is really picking it-it's getting me SO excited-THANK YOU! With this uptick in Sales (wahoo!) I have more questions! As I said above, a vid discussing OffSite ads would be FANTASTIC, as well as the VAT issue that comes with it. I'm waking up to orders (another wahoo!) in Australia, England (my homeland, but now living in Los Angeles, hence my shop name A Brit In The Sun -ha) and even Slovakia this morning, which is VERY exciting, and I see VAT info on Etsy to pass onto the provider, so I've just been emailing it to Printify...Is this right? Mostly, these orders abroad are coming from Offsite ads which costs another Fee, plus Printify shipping...I'm just a bit lost on it all and would love some more info. Apologies for the long message, and THANK you for all your advice so far!
I sell wreaths and they're mostly one of a kind items with a higher price range (85ish each). I ran a week long campaign at 90.00 a day and got more sales than normal; however, i spent so much money that the profit on each sale was less than what it costs to make the item. I'm feeling frustrated.
I've been running ads on my Etsy shop for about 2 weeks with a budget of $25 a day (max allowable currently) however it's only spending less than a $1 every day. Click rate is quite good but haven't made any sales yet from them so I want to be spending more but cant.
i have 100 items. 5$ will burn thru by 2 pm. I get no traffic when im not running ads. I booted to 10$. I get 1-3 sales. Plus I see all the keywords used to find my product. I then use those to create new products
So, from what I have read, there is no up front costs to use Etsy Ads correct? You are only charged a fee (which is 15%) IF you make a sale? But when I go to set up Etsy ads and set a daily budget, it says "Your budget is only spent when buyers click an ad, and you can change it any time." So, you are actually charged each time they click on an ad, whether or not they actually purchase the item? I'm totally confused.
Hello Hearher! What about the views and clicks of the ad? Are these a good indicator for the ad? " of course for same scenario you are talking about" Im running an ad for 5 days. Very low budget as yours. I feel the number of views is very slow and almost no clicks. Should i also wait for 30 days?
The problem with you test is you didn’t go and look at the keywords it showing for. If you aren’t turning off the ones that aren’t accurate you are just wasting spend. Also it make it take way longer to work
Congrats🥳I was wondering if you knew how etsy ads are actually paid for? Does the cost of ads automatically come out of your profits or are they paid for separately? I've been trying to find this out for months and have not been able to find the answer 🤔
If you're using a print on demand company the international and US shipping is usually already filled in for you when you publish your product to your Etsy store. It depends on your print company so I would recommend inquiring with them or reading their shipping policies as well since they can vary. If you check your new listing, you can always test the different countries by going to the lower right hand side of the listing where the shipping information is and changing your zip code. Also there is a setting at the top of Etsy to change your country as well. Hopefully this helps! :)
@@itsheatherstudio yes heather, thank you, ill check it out, im only using your advice frm yt to make my etsy store a success, i mite pick your brains now and then, hope u dont mind, thanks again!
We see results for her shop. She has already a shop is not new shop so she has some stats and know her shop before ads. We don't know her shop background we see a little bit of her job. We don't know about the seo about photography stats before after ads how it will be her stats. Just make your own ads travel and be there with open eyes to learning more thing's
I wouldn't say Etsy and POD is luck, it's hard work, consistency and doing the daily grind to get results and create a form of passive income that I now spend a maximum of 5 hours at most on a week for my full-time income Etsy store. I spent hours on my store when I built it on top of a 40 hour work week at a hospital and now I spent hours upon hours writing scripts for RUclips videos, filming, creating content to help others. Anything you do in life to be successful at begins the same with time, trust in the process and dedication, not luck. :)
You’re forgetting one very important fact. When you spend money on Etsy the ads will increase your search rankings so if someone searches for apparel, and you’re running an ad with a featured listing it will show up before everyone else’s.
Hey hey, just found you here a week ago and now just learned of this….

How tall is your fiance? Judging from the pictures, I'm gonna guess 7'3" tall.
You’re forgetting one very important fact. When you spend money on Etsy the ads will increase your search rankings so if someone searches for apparel, and you’re running an ad with a featured listing it will show up before everyone else’s.
