Another in our new series of new videos covering the military history of the United States and various conflicts over the centuries - with a spotlight on the Soldiers who fought for their country.
This installment illustrates and demonstrates the various elements of “Gilham's Manual of Instruction for the Volunteers and Militia of the United States” written and published before the war - a manual of arms used primarily by the Confederate Army during the Civil War.
This video is an ideal primer and guide for re-enactors on how to properly hold, carry and use the three-band musket during the American Civil War.

Before the end of this video I recognized that this half platoon looked like they are skirmishers for an infantry battalion to move forward to find and detect the enemy force and engage. After giving fire the main force or companies on either flank would give the proper commands to engage enemy infantry. Skirmishers then would retire to take up flank positions to deter flanking movements or to warn of a cavalry flanking attack as the regiment moves forward.
9:33 I'm Japanese, but I like the southern part of the United States because it has the same four seasons as Japan. I like eating soba and there are cultural similarities between the two countries. I like that the colors of the soldiers' uniforms are not flashy, but rather simple colors that are typical of a rural society. I feel that many of them who had no direct connection to slavery fought for their homelands and families.
I like how no one in the comments notices he says “load in 10 times” while Casey’s manual is “load in 9 times”.
Awesome historical stuff!
This is what I do every morning when I get out of bed!

For a second I though he was a hobbit tf with the LoTR music
Why does he shoulder arms on his left? Usually see shoulder arms on the right.
Different drill manual. The standard was typically Hardee’s and Casey’s. These shoulder the arms on the right.
Where did the actor get that shirt, love one for the range!
C & D Jarnigan, Fall Creek Sutlery. Two of the many merchants that cater to reenactors.
@@ronaldrobertson2332 Beauregard's Tailor is a much better place to get a battle shirt from and it will last much longer. Much higher quality.
Hey who is it that shoulders by catching the trigger guard
The shoulder on the right with the thumb and forefinger around the trigger guard is the light infantry drill in Hardee’s and Casey’s manual.
First!
brooks h. Great. Now folks are doing this lame-claim on even niche sites. Great. You win. Nothing.
