Erin made a great point about the prep work that goes into a trip. I would love to see a video about all that. Also, seeing you two work and enjoy each other is definite relationship goal.
You guys seriously should write a book of camping recipes. They look delicious and you're always making us hungry. 😂 I can't wait til we have enough ice around here!
Amazing how kind you are Jon, your videos are so relaxing and you must know these videos are helping me go through some really tough times. I am so happy I found this channel.
Friday morning coffee, and a chapter by u guys. Perfect. Broke light here in the Yoop. I’m going to my little camp on the river for the weekend. You certainly added to my desire to get there!
What a beautiful, ideal weekend to kick off the season! A calm, sunny day, storybook snowfall, delicious food, fish on, and a semester of grad school down. Life is good. ❤❄ Happy anniversary!
What a way to start a winter season you have the prep work really well established in every regard. The footage of the snowfall was really well done and your tips on ice safety will be appreciated by many
Great wood chopping tip Erin. One day when I was camping as a kid, one of the guys we were with did indeed plant a hatchet into his shin. And he had bare legs too. I'll never forget the sight of that!
There it is, that ice howl! I used to hear that on the lake and knew it was ice but it was just such an amazing sound, gets to be a really loud howl especially in the silence of nights. I've tried to explain it to people but it's something you have to hear.
Great adventure you Jon and Erin! Absolutely perfect combination of breathtaking cinematography, wonderful companionship, and bushcraft skills and tips. My wife and I were mesmerized by the drone photography over that snow laden forest and the gorgeous capture of snow falling through the evergreens. I swear I could just stare at that for hours! Would you be able to start including product links for all of the kit you bring with you? I know you often describe them throughout the video but it's hard to find them afterwards, maybe somewhere on your website or Amazon list or just in the video description. Thanks for all the time you guys put into this ... it really shows.
One last comment for this video: When I see ya'll pulling sleds with gear, I can tell you that's exactly what I feel like when I'm hauling my Yeti 45 cooler down into a ravine (and back up when we leave), to settle at a sweet campsite. I'm just trying to keep my stuff from spoiling and somewhat cool! Ya'll are trying to keep everything from freezing! I love seeing the opposite struggle and enjoyment we all have in the journey it takes to be outside.
Hahah I get that Leabeth...recently been watching Scotty's Walkabouts in Australia and it's amazing to see the contrast in camping, and some of the similarities too
The sounds of the ice as the temperature changed was fascinating! I've yet to hear that live. . . . . and nothing improves the taste of a meal like stirring with a bush stick!
You guys are awesome together I like the idea of maybe a video showing how much work you guys put into a trip like this. Keep the great videos up they are great.
You always freak me out on the ice. Lol. This was just so beautiful and I just love that little stove. That meal looked so amazing and of course the hiccups were the highlight of the night. So cool how you’s are always giving out safety tips. Very much appreciated. Til the next one thanks again for all your hard work.😘
Great vid guys. A tip if you're interested, from an old school camp cook (lol). Instead of trying to balance a log while smashing garlic, use one of your zip lock bags. Put the garlic in the bag. Smash it. Scoop it out. Done.
I do Love watching your video's! The 2 of you both know what needs to be done and both of you tackle what needs to be done. Some couples videos I have watched, Male - set up and wood processing , female cooking.
Thank you Erin and Jon for taking us on your outdoor adventures. I really appreciate Jon's rich descriptive narrative. I enjoy the casual conversation style and mentoring perspective in your videos. Happy holidays to the two of you.
I ice fish a lot in winter. Couple tips for you: 1) downsize your baits in winter. Especially on unfamiliar water. I like to start with 1/16 jigging spoons and a small piece of plastic. Small jigs and spoons will never let you down. 2) search search baits like the ripping rap are awesome. Downsize to a smaller presentation here as well. I use them often as a call bait with a second line set with a piece of bait. If they aren’t interested in your aggressive presentation, they’ll often hit the dead stick. 3) ice troll! Drill lots of holes and move often. Where you catch fish last thing in the fall is where you’ll catch them also on early to mid winter ice. Find the bait, find the fish. Shallow bays on small inland water is a great place to look for walleyes. Good luck and have fun!
Nice as usual!!!❤ In Sweden we call the sound when the ice is cracking...that the ice is singing!!! Icefishing...the next thing to do if our lakes will ever freece here in Sweden!!!
Your efforts as presenter...are respectable, the hardworking involved into this is admirable as well...and the result is your reward...in the best form of self determination.
And standing like that you wont cut your toes off! next thing when splitting logs ALWAYS put the little end down, And for some tasty meal for like lunch that is very good is ramen noodles with a lot of beef jerky in it wow so so good...
Great drone footage! Beautiful part of the country you two camp in, and always great to watch you and Erin in action. Dan Simmons is one of my favorite authors as well. Loved his historical fiction book about Ernest Hemingway, 'The Crook Factory.'
Your videos provide tremendous value. The strap to keep your tools organized, evening out the ground under your tent with snow, why it's good to have a wide stance when chopping wood, tips for reading the flasher, setting a timer in the night to stoke the fire etc. etc. etc. Thanks guys.
One of the first lessons I was taught as a kid chopping wood was to have a stable chopping platform so there would be fewer swings required and less chance for a missed or glancing blow. But that was a long time ago. We didn't even have suffocation hazard warnings on plastic bags back then. It's a wonder we survived.
Like a few other comments on the Prep subject that Erin brought up. Would be a great to see some of your prep that goes into some of the awesome trips !! Dig the Cowichan sweaters you wear. Keep on keeping on !

A C.A.T. tourniquet is what I’d suggest for you. Last year my work had a refresher course for First Aid. The instructor included a session for the tourniquet use. Seemed such a great piece of kit that I’ve bought five for myself. Two in the car, one in the bag I take shopping, two in a day pack. As with anything, you can buy knockoffs from a certain country, but I paid more and bought quality items. Went for fluro orange so they really stand out. Good idea to regularly practice applying the tourniquet.
Being an Australian this sort of camping is very foreign to me and maybe that's why it's so entertaining. Have you ever thought about setting up a permanent winter campsite?
Funny, I've been watching Scotty's Gone Walkabouts lately and thinking the same thing about Aus. Beautiful. And yeah absolutely, we plan to set up a longer-term camp next...I love exploring new places but it's just too much work with this heavy load, especially as the snow gets deeper
Dang, I would have run off that ice so quickly if I heard a crack like that directly underneath me! I literally jumped out of my seat! And the pike, oh that pike! So impressive that you managed to wrangle that monster out of the tiny hole. What a beauty. Also perfect ending to the vid, that was great!
Thanks man! The hot tent is fabulous in winter, but if it's an consolation it's a hell of a lot of work lol. Especially if you're hauling in. We were RAW the next day

Going myself for a 2 night's cold camping trip in the first snowstorm ( 25-30 cm expected ) of the year a couple hours north of Montreal , so I was glad to see your video coming out today , it's setting the ambiance for the weekend 👍 . Nice shot of the grouse, such a beautiful bird 👌. Usually when I go winter camping I go for at least 2 night's because it demands a lot of preparations . I was surprise to see you guys on a one nighter with all your gear 🤔 Thank's for sharing
Hahah such a great point, it really is too much work for one night. We're gonna set up some camps that we can come back to moving forward. Thanks Sylvain, hope you had a great trip in all that snow!
Quality control!!! YESSSSS! Ya'll crack me up! (the hiccups were so HILARIOUS) I recently had to pack up, and hike out at 3am with my son who was too cold to camp. It was wet and cold. At 40 degrees. (I can see ya'll laughing so hard! ;)) but, lesson learned on having good gear to keep you warm. On those few cold Arkansas nights. LOL.
A CAT (combat application tourniquet), some c-lox, or quick clot, an Israeli bandage and some Stri-strips are great additions to a wilderness first aid kit. Just found your channel the other day! Really enjoy you guys and your team work! Cheers from an Atlantic Canadian RUclipsr🤙
Hi you two! Love your video's! I live in NH America, and I realize the pros and cons of the imperial vs metric systems. What I noticed in this video was when cutting the center pole you used inch's, but temps you use Celsius. I do cabinetry woodworking and have tried the metric system ( easier to divide by 10th's vs 1/8th's 1/16th's etc. But I resorted back to the imperial system as I can visualize an inch vs 25 mm., and the foot measurement I can visualize as well vs 30.48 cm. Yard vs. meter are similar to visualize. Celsius vs. Fahrenheit, I agree when water freezes at 0 makes more sense than 32 degrees. But I am used to temp's in Fahrenheit when it is 90 degrees I know it is hot, I have to look at a conversion chart to know in celsius what that would equal.
Good tip about the axe; I'm allergic to dull blades, and while at the cabin a friend did just that. Deflected right onto his shin. End of trip, make him stop leaking all over the place, throw everything in the car, drive almost two hours to get home. 5-6 stitches, no worries. Turns out the Scouts and the Red Cross really do show you how to plug leaks!
I really enjoyed this camping trip via your video, thanks for taking us along. What a great area in the woods and beautiful scenery and ambiance. I really enjoy your personalities and how well you work and enjoy things together. Glad to see you are enjoying your gstove. As an update, I ended up canceling my order for a gstove after they could not deliver for 10-1/2 months and they promptly sent a refund. I then made an order for the Winnerwell large Nomad along with the collapsible stove and water tank. Made the order on a Monday and got it all two days later on Wednesday. I've got my hot tent setup and practicing in the backyard first. Looking forward to doing a winter hot tent camp this season here in northern Utah. :)
Wow!!! That's incredible, what a difference. You absolutely made the right decision. We were out with Alexis Outdoors last winter with her Winnerwell. Very comparable stoves. No reason to miss out on having your stove this winter so good call. Thanks Larry!

Celsius vs. Fahrenheit,
I agree when water freezes at 0 makes more sense than 32 degrees. But I am used to temp's in Fahrenheit when it is 90 degrees I know it is hot, I have to look at a conversion chart to know in celsius what that would equal.
Omg I have so much to catch up on guys!! Been Mia for a couple months. Here comes the bag of popcorn and binge watching! 👍
Hahah welcome back E!
O man, I watched this Video to calm down before sleeping, but since 34:07 I am fully awake now! 😂🤣😂
😝😝
Another great video!
Thanks Tony!
Great video again Jon and Erin. Do you think you’ll visit this site again this season
Thanks Stephen! The cache of firewood makes it tempting, but the 5km haul in would be brutal once the snow is deep so likely not lol
Greetings from Atlanta.
Within You Without You. Love that song.
Hey DC. Isn't it A Day in the Life? Couldn't recall out there
