The wind blowing across the lake has got to be cold. My legs ache watching you guys snowshoe through deep snow. I love the solitude and stillness of winter camping. The snow dampens the sounds of life. Nice to see you two living life to it’s fullest. Love you guys!
Dear Erin & Jon, I hope you had a Merry Christmas and wish you a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year. I can’t thank you enough for your videos and the joy they bring me. With the past year and all of the negativity associated with it you have made an incredible contribution to my ability to cope with it. I am physically unable to do the things you do and live vicariously through your adventures, I hope you know the happiness you bring to so many of us, keep up the good work, stay healthy and continue to explore. The shots with the sun coming through the trees are magnificent. It’s all glorious but there is just something about those that warm my soul. Thank you!
What a beautiful sight - 'water water every where' snow snow glorious snow. Total peace & serenity. So a truly magnificent sight to behold (@8.07 into video. At 11minutes into video - so amazed at the snow covered rock mountain sides just enormous but a mesmerizing sight. The fluffy black n white Woodpeckers are so gorgeous - their colouring so precise in pattern. A great tip to keep a water hole open - so important I think. Gonna sit back & watch you two have fun & share your wonderful surrounds that only Mother Nature will put on display.. thanks 4 sharing & Cheers

Erin is right about the anti-allergenic properties of honey! Did not know snow fleas existed! A little bit of everything with amazing videography!
Thanks Mom!! Hahah the snow fleas can easily be mistaken for dirty snow unless you look carefully. They seem to appear in the millions out of thin air and then disappear the same way

Chili and garlic toast for the win! Yes, love it for cool weather camping too. That pudgy lil vole was super cute camp visitor. We usually only get to see chipmunks which are equally adorable and fun to watch.
Ahhhhhh to be young and healthy again. I would have done so many things different. Kudos and congrats to you both for making the most of the beautiful country/province we live in. Northern Ontario is a truly special place...you showcase it so well! Many thanks...
Another great addition to your adventures! One of the things I appreciate about your videos (and is why I subscribed around 600ish) is because you talk a lot about how being out in nature effects you along with environmental and conservation issues. I get tired of the weather updates and narration of the day to day tasks at camp or tripping. Your videos were/are different! Finally, someone speaking from the heart about what it means to be out in nature! Please don't be offended or upset by this comment. I have thought about not writing it. I feel like this aspect of your adventures is slipping away. I wonder if the pressure of having to publish a video a week (or whatever it is to stay relevant and on top of the RUclips game) is making it harder to express yourself. Your filmmaking skills are the bomb-diggity! You're content is 100% visually. I can see by the b-roll that you still pay attention to the little things that matter and catch your interest when in the wilderness. This is missing from so many other people's videos. B-roll, b-roll, b-roll! I'm super excited for you and your channel. I just miss your humour and thoughts on your experience while adventuring. This video felt very instructional. But it was great, don't get me wrong... but instructional and a lot of narrating of what you're both doing. It's easier to talk to the camera doing that, I know. Anyway, sorry. Just missing that component of some of your more recent work.
Thank you so much Cobi for putting the time and thought into such a supportive and helpful comment! I really appreciate this feedback so I'm glad you did. I found it really interesting. I think I know exactly why. In earlier videos I was transitioning my career and had some big chunks of time off to trip. I think that allows one to get in a different mental space. Since then, tripping while working full time, getting in what you can, typically doesn't allow for enough time to reach that space. When I take a week+ off I feel like I'm thinking that way again, and I think that comes out in trips like "Leave Behind", Quetico, and the 9-day far north solo, but rarely in the weekend overnighters. But this year might allow for a lot more long trips so that may change soon 😉 Thanks again my friend---value your input!
I have to say wow!!! These scenary....the winter has you in it's grip, and most people will stay inside...but you are forcing the elements and doing fun things outside, and enjoying your time together with lots of treats... Can only love it....🥰🥰🥰 Keep on the outdoors!!!❤❤❤
The formatting of the videos on the Eyoyo camera is odd so pardon the aspect ratio and glitchy looking edges. The recording quality is low and the camera is extremely difficult to aim (by twisting the wire). However it was a ton of fun to film down there and this is something that I'll work on. FYI, it doesn't record audio...that was added from footage I have of using GoPros underwater.
I enjoyed that. Really cool trip. I'm praying for snow so I can get out the snowshoes and sled for a trip like this. I like to camp at the same spots or areas I go to and the trip before becomes the next trips prep. The older I get the more work I do for the old guy coming down river the next time. lol.

Even dead wood requires some drying time. Wood is basically a sponge, and holds a certain amount of moisture until it has been cut and stacked. Wood does not dry much in the winter, especially up where you are, because the moisture freezes and stays frozen until the thaw. Sorry if I sound like I'm pontificating, but I have been involved with wood and logging for 45 years. Anyhow, too bad you didn't get any fish.
Nice! The grate works Great!! If I could make a suggestion about the battery and solar panel. The panel generates electricity even in low light, but not as much. But the battery/charge controller won’t work in low temps. If you keep the battery in the tent and the panel outside you might be able to charge in those conditions. Hope this helps!
I'm going through a curious phase of watching snow camping. It's fascinating to watch. I enjoyed seeing your adventure and discoveries. Forests in winter are beautiful. The sound audio recording is really clear and your shots of the scenery are really excellent. Thank you.
Great looking trip. Erin's battleaxe is boss. Surprising how time seems to fly in the winter but you made the most for sure, glad you made it to your secret lake.
It is definitely true about locally sourced honey being a cure for allergies! My nephew suffered for years with terrible allergies. A few years ago he and his wife became beekeepers as hobby and within a very short time of consuming their honey (a tablespoon every night) he noticed that he wasn’t having the allergic reactions any more. He looked into it and also read the same thing you did about this benefit. Thanks for sharing your story!
Awesome video as always guys! I've found that going back to just sleeping under a tarp or in a "cold tent" is somewhat liberating after hot tenting...The amount of time and energy spent processing firewood can be so exhausting (I typically go solo for up to 8 days). It's a real trade-off I find. The hot tent is so nice for those really cold nights but man I find it a ton more work. I also realized after watching this that I need a better saw!
I had to put my sweater on to watch this; it's been cold here the last couple of days: 20 degrees ( like -5 for you Canadians, and the rest of the world, lol). I would never willingly go out in that cold and stay the night, but I appreciate the beauty of you two doing it. Thanks, stay well.
Hahaha there's nothing like the simple pleasure of feeling warm and cozy...even when watching it on TV. P.S. In the spirit of diplomacy, I used the American spelling of cozy 😝
1st tree wet. Likely not quite dead/drained. Easy fix though. Just turn it all into kindling, & then dry it out by stacking it on an outdoor coal bed - then bring it indoors, (dont dry indoors as moisture will escape into your tent. Yuk). Deadfalls aren't always drained of sap and moisture. No biggy. More than one way to skin a tree. Just a matter of a calm and measured approach. Nice vid. Keep 'em coming.
Also..... learn to play with your stove. Do it in the summer. Dampers are your friend. Use bbq thermometers and find what dual/damper settings provide hot and fast versus long and low. Chilly-Cheers!
Last running shot was awesome 👍 great video and adventure. So telling with the wood, glad you stayed warm. Fishing was disappointing but the technology was awesome. Erin I really loved your ax it was pretty amazing.
Always great stuff ! ** run some 3/4" PVC pipe over your sleigh's tow ropes , easier to control going down hill , no more heel bumps or side stepping :) I think that the Sculpin was a Log Perch , cool footage Man ! :)
Watching from a part of the UK which only sees snow, if we are lucky, once in every 7 years. I loved the tip about freezing the veg to the side of the pot, made so much sense. Loved your video. Can't wait to see more now, so have subscribed. :)
Once again...perfect...you are setting standards ...and following your work I see them...I was inspired to watch "Leave Behind " once again!...you have arrived where you both are integral to your story...your solo trips inspire me so much..the way Erin compliments them make them more heartfelt..and her own perceptive has become an integral part of the story...a request would be a video on the fundamentals and explanations of the rigorous work involved in making such excellent work...many questions here...not a newbie here but your results are spectacular...in a most natural way...I would love to talk about this ...if not publicly...thank you so much for the work/pleasure you so perfectly relate!...and is that not what you do each time you present us with these glimpses of your lives?...thank you both...from the bottom of my wild heart!
I love going on virtual adventures with you all- Mentally adding butter to the pancakes, lol That huge stone near the end looks like a giant chaga. So much wonderful footage. Thank you. Have a great day!
Great trip! Cool underwater and drone footage, beautiful rocks and icecicles, Erin's battle axe 🪓 is wicked, and the food looked fantastic - will have to try making the ice cream if we ever get snow in west Michigan. Thank you for bringing us along!
Scenery looks so similar where I camp (Colorado), I really enjoy your videos guys. You are positive all the time under hard situations and I think that's important. Thank you! 🍃🌲
The ending shot looked like a heal of a foot. Scenery is amazing. I’m freezing here in Florida and I feel like a wimp watching you in blustery cold, peeing outside, weather and I’m originally from Ohio, I know what cold is. 😊
Great vid guys really enjoyed this one!! Wow haven't played cribbage in years. Watching all your hot tent vids and seeing all the kinks that go with it i should be ready for some winter camping. Thanks guys!
Great trip and thanks for sharing ! Yes, you did carry in a lot of electronics 🤣 For solar recharge of you power bank, I believe it would help if you kept the power bank inside the hot tent when charging and run the line to the solar cells, you would get better results. Honey ( natural and unadulterated) is sooooooo good for you 🍯 🐝👍 Loved the little vole who was visiting with you 😊
Had some time to watch another episode and met Erin on this adventure, your very lovely and very able companion! Nice to "meet" you Erin! Made great work of that first tree. She is spot on about local bee's honey as it introduces your system to the pollen around the area which gives your body a DNA "fingerprint" of the antigens in your area and allows you to develop DNA specific antibodies with perfect efficacy to the pollen in your area. Love the equipment you guys use, esp. that stove with fan, grill and features! Eyoyo, underwater cam! That is a game changer and takes out the guess work of "wonder what's going on down there" jiggle bait 300x. That lake and icefall was a magnificent hike! I love making natural snow ice cream. As always, mad respect to your respect to nature always in all ways!
Some thoughts regarding the difficulty you had with the stove: The wood you cut on your first day may well not have been seasoned, but another possibility is moisture absorption into the cut and split wood while stored in your tent. Snow sublimates, which is a physical state transition from solid (snow crystals in this case) directly into water vapour. This happens not just in mild weather, but even in deep cold conditions. Normally that moisture doesn't accumulate, being blown off in air currents, but inside a closed tent, that moisture builds up, penetrates the fabric, and everything that is permeable (including wood), and then recondenses. This is almost certainly why the inside of your tent was dripping wet once the stove began to heat up. Your cut and split wood will also have drunk in that sublimated moisture and frozen hard while it was stored there for several days because dry, split wood is hydrophilic (i.e. : water-permeable and absorbant), especially since there was no air movement in the closed tent for that moisture to vent out into the open air. Split wood has far more area of open porosity than unsplit wood, so could absorb lot of moisture. This, I suspect, is at least part of the reason why your wood didn't burn well, even if it was seasoned well when it was harvested days earlier. There's a simple solution though for the next time you want to prepare and leave wood at your site ahead of time: cut your wood to stove length, do NOT split it, and store it OUTSIDE the tent, preferably under a conifer (in case of rain, freezing rain, or very wet snow). And to prevent moisture from accumulating in the tent canvas itself, leave the vents open and the door partially unzipped from the top, so as to permit air flow in and out of the tent and the moisture with it. Don't leave the door wide open though as a large wind gust could parachute your tent loose. I'd be remiss if I didn't say how excellent your video production is. This was beautiful to look at. 🙂 Hope this helps, - Martin
Wow, your insight is always incredible Martin---thank you so much for this! Such thoughts never even crossed my mind and I find info like this invaluable. Thank you my friend!

Jon your videos are very good & when Erin is in them they are very very very good. Well done both of you your hard work definitely shows 👍🎯🇨🇦. Thanks !
I'd say it's to much chimney on stove is the problem. Not creating enough draft cause it's to high. Should only be a foot or two aboubove tent .needs a cap on the pipe too .

Thank Gulgonful! Been a super mild winter so far but usually we all get our dues
Yay. First. Excited to see a new video
Thanks Rita!
Thanks so much Steve & Andrea!! So true...liberating is a great word for it. Soo much work, especially if you're only out for one night
🤣
1st tree wet. Likely not quite dead/drained. Easy fix though. Just turn it all into kindling, & then dry it out by stacking it on an outdoor coal bed - then bring it indoors, (dont dry indoors as moisture will escape into your tent. Yuk). Deadfalls aren't always drained of sap and moisture. No biggy. More than one way to skin a tree. Just a matter of a calm and measured approach. Nice vid. Keep 'em coming.
Fantastic advice, thanks so much Brian!!
Also..... learn to play with your stove. Do it in the summer. Dampers are your friend. Use bbq thermometers and find what dual/damper settings provide hot and fast versus long and low. Chilly-Cheers!
Thanks again Brian! Wanted to get some magnetic thermometers but then realized they won't stick because it's stainless steel
Another great adventure. Thanks, Jon and Erin. 👍🙂 I loved the underwater shots too. 📸😁🛶
Thanks Brian!!
Last running shot was awesome 👍 great video and adventure. So telling with the wood, glad you stayed warm. Fishing was disappointing but the technology was awesome. Erin I really loved your ax it was pretty amazing.
Thanks Eileen! Definitely a bummer about the fishing
i got to say that was a very nice video and looks like a wonderful trip. i have to try that ice cream trick
Thanks James! Surprisingly good...I wasn't expecting much
What an epic adventure! Wow! Beautiful forest and lakes. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Thanks again Cliff!!
Always a joy to join you on a trip virtually when im not out there myself. 👍
Greatly appreciated NIA!!
Awesome filming as per usual. Happy new year. Yes...snow works very well...Like a frozen "wipes". Stay fresh my friends😀
😜😜 Thanks Paul!
Always great stuff !
** run some 3/4" PVC pipe over your sleigh's tow ropes , easier to control going down hill , no more heel bumps or side stepping :)
I think that the Sculpin was a Log Perch , cool footage Man ! :)
Thanks SturgeonF!! Always wondered about the pipes...gotta try that. Great ID, I think you're right!
Watching from a part of the UK which only sees snow, if we are lucky, once in every 7 years. I loved the tip about freezing the veg to the side of the pot, made so much sense. Loved your video. Can't wait to see more now, so have subscribed. :)
Hahah thanks MotherH3N! I'm a self-micro-manager with little things like that
Oh my! That toasted croissant with eggs looked amazing!
It's so wonderful, beautiful nature and everything beautiful you've created.
Thank you! 💚
Thank you so much Paul!!! 💚 I like the idea of a "behind the scenes" video--added it to my to-do list!

I'm not a camper, but I find the videos really relaxing, great job.
Appreciate it John :)
Another awesome adventure, hope you have many more
Thanks Lukas!
Great work as usual guys !! Two tips for you today Chicken chorizo sausage 'Klosters butcher shop ' and a Moisture meter for wood ! very handy !
Yummm chorizo... Think you're right about the moisture meter too. Thanks Craig!!
Another excellent video to watch. I am looking forward to seeing more on your experiences with the G stove as they winter continues.
Thanks a bunch NE!
I love going on virtual adventures with you all- Mentally adding butter to the pancakes, lol That huge stone near the end looks like a giant chaga. So much wonderful footage. Thank you. Have a great day!
Thanks a lot Christina!
Great trip! Cool underwater and drone footage, beautiful rocks and icecicles, Erin's battle axe 🪓 is wicked, and the food looked fantastic - will have to try making the ice cream if we ever get snow in west Michigan. Thank you for bringing us along!
Hahah heard something about a polar vortex in a few weeks so careful what you wish for.... Thanks April!
38:59 American Three-toed Woodpecker, Cool! Looks like you 2 had a great time. Wonderful video!
Cool!! Thanks Kelly! A quick search tells me it's not in southern Ontario, just the north
Scenery looks so similar where I camp (Colorado), I really enjoy your videos guys. You are positive all the time under hard situations and I think that's important. Thank you! 🍃🌲
Thanks a lot B&W! Much of Ontario is relatively flat but here north of Lake Superior there's some nice terrain :)
Great video I love camping. This brings back many memories of camping with my brother
The ending shot looked like a heal of a foot. Scenery is amazing.
I’m freezing here in Florida and I feel like a wimp watching you in blustery cold, peeing outside, weather and I’m originally from Ohio, I know what cold is. 😊
Thanks BL! Hahah gotta love the simple pleasure of staying warm
Great vid guys really enjoyed this one!! Wow haven't played cribbage in years. Watching all your hot tent vids and seeing all the kinks that go with it i should be ready for some winter camping. Thanks guys!
Thanks D!! Quite a good game
@@LostLakes alot of counting.... lol.
Great trip and thanks for sharing ! Yes, you did carry in a lot of electronics 🤣 For solar recharge of you power bank, I believe it would help if you kept the power bank inside the hot tent when charging and run the line to the solar cells, you would get better results. Honey ( natural and unadulterated) is sooooooo good for you 🍯 🐝👍 Loved the little vole who was visiting with you 😊
Thanks Hamish!! Great idea, problem was the tent was in the woods so there was even less sunlight. Otherwise that would be really cool
Your call on burning with dry wood sounds correct to me! Wet wood in a small fire box could be difficult!
Looked like lots of fun. Thank you for the great entertainment.
Thanks as always for joining Rhonda!!
I enjoy watching you both, good clean funny entertaining.. Much love to you both and God bless 🙌
As always, mad respect to your respect to nature always in all ways!
you guys have total respect for each other , priceless
💕💕
Another great video and the smokies looked very tasty,

Love the video, yes 👍 family camping trip every year except for the last two years I love all the tech got to have the tech be safe!!!
Some thoughts regarding the difficulty you had with the stove:
The wood you cut on your first day may well not have been seasoned, but another possibility is moisture absorption into the cut and split wood while stored in your tent.
Hope this helps,
- Martin
Wow, your insight is always incredible Martin---thank you so much for this! Such thoughts never even crossed my mind and I find info like this invaluable. Thank you my friend!
@@LostLakes You're much too kind. The quality of your videos (and I don't just mean the production value) is more than enough thanks.
Best wishes to you and Erin this year!
- Martin
Brilliantly done, good experience for us of non known of this situation. Thank you Guys, a great help.
Thank you Josie!
This was so nice to see.. when two are equally yoked, it is a wonderful thing❤️
It is spooky how much this guy looks like Christian McCandless. New sub. Love the video!!
Hahah have to admit I love that comparison... thanks Jerry!
Jon your videos are very good & when Erin is in them they are very very very good. Well done both of you your hard work definitely shows 👍🎯🇨🇦. Thanks !
Thanks a lot Dave! I definitely prefer when Erin's there too, in person and for making vids :)
@@LostLakes good
Yes , I agree, I like her humor and personality. I would love to see more interaction , more film time with her. She’s great too. Peace and joy 😊
I'd say it's to much chimney on stove is the problem. Not creating enough draft cause it's to high. Should only be a foot or two aboubove tent .needs a cap on the pipe too .
Don't even have to watch, quick thumbs up!
Thanks Ken!!!
Looks like a great spot for a winter camp. I haven't become a true northerner yet. The thought of walking over a frozen lake still freaks me out. Also, love that beginning where the first shot of Erin is her leaning up against a tree. Makes it seem like she was lurking there all along waiting for someone to invite her camping. 😁 Cheers you guys!
Hahaha thanks a lot Shane, and cheers!!
