- Hi all , this is a full detailed video on how to install Cm13 on Xperia play , it works very smoothly with all its features except the video recording :(

An excellent video Nightmare. I'm so finally chuffed to get Android v6.0.1 onto my ageing Xperia Play. It's very surprisingly smooth as well. I've got a cool 64gb MicroSD installed in this baby, and it's just gagging for apps lol. but seriously, thank you very much for pointing me in the right direction. I had problems installing this before, but I neglected to format the card to ext4 as it was already prepared using Link2SD. This basically had a 1Gb FAT32 partition, and the rest was ext2. This caused serious problems with the flashing.
But, suffice to say, after watching your video, I now have a spangly cool, fast, Xperia Play with well over 50gb of app space available to me.

Actually this is like the official android 6.0, so every marshmallow's tricks and tips are also available with this rom, as for a video there're a lot of them about this android version

Hello @Nightmare ! Great tutorial :). I will try this installation using linux. I have some question about extending RAM using swapping. Is it possible on this ROM? Have you tried it? Is there a need for Link2SD/Apps2SD or all apps are installed on SD card?
Well for the Ram swap, it doesn't work with this Rom cause the kernel doesn't support swap partitions, and no there's no need for any of those apps, cause in this Rom the sd card becomes the phone's internal memory so most of apps are installed there.

Hallo! When I write the string in CMD (win10), I need to add “.\\” at the beginning otherwise it won’t work and then It tell me “waiting for any device” and it won’t let me do anything else.

Good news, i installed the rom using the SD card that came with the phone (class 4 8Gb) and so far so good. Only complains i have:
-Battery drains fast
-Can't find a way to overclock the cpu
-Wifi sometimes disconnects itself
-I you install too many apps, the phone will colapse.
I'm using so far: youtube go, instagram, whatsapp, lost android, a task killer, facebook lite and a couple of bank app. Good for now. Maybe i will try to put some SNES emulators.
Very good, i can't seem to remember if the cm13 kernel supports cpu overclocking or not, try to use apps to do that, wifi works fine just wipe cache and dalvik cache(if it doesn't work make a factory reset), the rom needs a lot of ram and since the XPlay has only 512mb it can't handle installing a lot of apps, but as i see it will surely work fine with your current apps and yeah u can install some emulators too : )
I wish Sony would release a modern Xperia Play in the future, one of the best devices I ever owned.

Hey! What should I do if the flashtool does not recognize the 79.tft file? (Even pointing to the right folder)
Been trying to install the LineageOS build following this video as you suggested to do under the previous one but after trying for so many times but the stock android recovery always overwrites the custom TWRP one and if i try using any other (i tried with the Cyanogen one, Lupus, Cloworkmod and stock recoveries) it stops at 40% and i get a "signature verification failed" error 21.
Any idea on what i missed? I really don't understand what im doing wrong and looked for a solution everywhere but couldn't find anything, maybe i should ask on the XDA forums...

You seam to have either one of the following :
Bootloader locked
Flashing locked
Corrupted partition
And the solution to try first is to unlock your bootloader if u can, otherwise try using cmd on adb fastboot like i showed in the video and type this command : fastboot flashing unlock (this will erase your data be warned)
and see if that works, also if any of the above don't work try resetting from factory reset on a clean stock recovery along with wipe data and cash.
plz help, the problem is the firmware selection. when i go where i have the drivers it doesen't let me flash, the flash button is unclickable. maye is the flashtool? and when i go to the "driver get.exe" it gives me 2 errors, the drivers are failed to e installed

I followed the video and installed the drivers but when I connect the phone and run the flashing program it says drivers need to be installed for connected device (I disabled the enforcement part too, installed everything correctly , but it won’t pick up the Xperia play) I’m using a transfer cable and it’s picking up to transfer files to the phone but not working in flashtool
Make sure you installed all the drivers including Flashboot and Fastboot drivers, and while installing a window has to pop up saying that they are not digitally signed drivers and ask you if its okay to install them, if this doesn't show it means they are not properly installed, while flashing don't connect other devices with USB ports that might confuse the program, and last start Flashtool with admin rights.
hi Sammy, it have installed Adb, and when i typr fastboot flash boot and i hold search button and plug the usb cable, i dont have the blue light on power button just like in the video, and on cmd says waiting for devices.. what should i do? thank you
Hi, first of all make sure u flashed the firmware 79, redo it just to make sure then also fast boot drivers need to be installed properly, and last check if your usb cable has data transfer and its not charge only, once u done all that even without CMD, when u hold the search button and plug your usb cable in u should be able to see the blue light.

@@softwarearena7592 aww, thanks for want to help. my xperia play suddenly turn off at the year of 2011 after installing cm rom, and it wont turn on back. when I want to turn it on the flash camera keep blink. I dont know why.. Also the phone cannot use anymore totally broke..i've go to the centre, but they say they cannot fix it the reason is the phone I got is not from my country also it from factory I got it as my birthday gift ,.they said to me is outdate and they doesn't have the part of it. 😢 and u're so lucky have to keep the phone till now☺
I see, try to flash an ftf firmware, maybe it can fix it, cause if its a software problem it should be fixed but if its a hardware thing then it wont

its easy just like i've shown in the video, just download ftf firmware, and flashtool (link in description), open flashtool load the firmware u just downloaded and it will ask you to put your phone in flash mode, to do that u need to turn off ypur phone and then hold the back button and plug it to your pc using usb cable, and you'll see flashing started in flashtool, if your stuck just watch how i did it in the video ( first steps)

Good evening, could you help me? I did all the steps but when installing some application from Google Play, the cel restarts and stays in the cyanogenmod logo.
U must've missed something, like steps order or maybe u did something wrong, try to redo everything but this time do exactly like i did and it should work just fine
I know the stock cpu of the Xperia play is 1ghz. What's the maximum cpu speed it can go up to on this custom rom?
Jay Matthew the speed of cpu depends on the kernel installed and supported, in this one u canoverlock up to 1.8 ghz, but if u want more there r other kernels which can go up to 2ghz, but its not recommended since the xperia play is not meant to go this far since it has an old cpu.

You are welcome friend, as for your question the answer is : No, PsPocket only works on the stock android it doesn't work on marshmallow .

sir, u gotta help me, ive been getting this "ERROR - Processing of loader.sin finished with errors." everytime i try to flash the 79 firmware and it keep disconnect and connect repeatedly in flash mode. I did exactly what you did in the vid and still dont work pls help. tq
The problem is in the flashtool version, try to get the same version i used in this video and it will work just fine
@@softwarearena7592 ur right i tried a different flashtool and it work like charm. Its just after everything done i feel like the phone getting alot slower than before like it kept crashing when i click too much or even try to update google play services but ive seen ur vid and ur r800i looks fine. Is it because of the storage or my r800i is defective and slow?
@@omnia5873 So, there could be several issues that caused that, lack of ram, this phone has very low memory so some versions of CM13 can do that, also the apps installed, it is highly recommended you install light minimal google apps, cause of the low storage, and do a factory reset clean cash and delvik cash, also u need to do the exact same steps as in the video, cause if u dont clean cash before install that could happen, at last if none of these work, then try a different version of CM13, good luck!
Got to the part where you go into the console the first time but when I run 'fastboot flash boot' and move boot.img to it I get a "FAILED (remote: The Device must be rooted first)". Assuming this is because I had to use the firmware provided by flashtools(R800x_4.0.2.E.0.57_Verizon_USA) since flashtools 9.25 and 9.22 (couldn't find the one you were using, 9.21) won't detect it for some reason. Should all versions of flashtool work with Ftf 79? Or maybe I just rooted it improperly? Thanks
Well the root doesn't have any thing to do with this, cause when u flash the firmware u'll loose it so it doesn't matter, but what u have to do is check your bootloader if its unlocked or not, if its not then unlock it, if it still doesn't work use Flashtool to flash boot.img instead of the console, some of flashtool versions don't work properly especially the last ones, try to get the 0.9.6 the one i'm using
How do you unlock the bootloader? And do you have any links for 9.6 cause I still can't find any downloads to it lol

Looks like the Bootloader unlock allowed is missing which sony says means no. Also flashtool won't detect boot.img if that's what you meant.
Skrib for flash tool, u need to go to fastboot mode and chose a kernel to flash then find your boot. Img, but if sony says that u can't unlock the bootloader then this won't work for you sorry man.

I need help, i had many errors doing this and somehow solve them, but in the part after pluging back the mem in the phone and turn it on, Legacyxperia screen never appears in fact nothing shows up no boot screen, the phone vibrate at turn on but no screen, i plug out the battery and try again but nothing. because of that i can't reboot to factory or do anything else. Please i need help.
this maybe caused by your bootloader, is it unlocked or locked?, cause u need to unlock it, but for now just flash the ftf firmware and let it boot up, then try to check your bootloader

There are several versions of the Xperia Play, be sure to get yours specific!
There are quite few but the process is all the same, and the one i'm using in the vid is the R800i
I can not install the assembly cm-13.0-20161109: (at the end of the firmware, 0.98x is written in my console, instead of 1.00x I did everything according to the video guide. By the way, the assembly cm-13.0-20160418 is installed perfectly. What could be the problem? Maybe the hash doesn't match? how to check it?
That could be the boot kernel, try using another one it might work for u, because newer version don't support some kernel

@@softwarearena7592 I tried kernel 0418 and firmware 1109 together and got a fatal error. I also tried mini adb v1.3.2 but separately and again got 0.98x. Tell me, did you flash 1109?

Well, for Xperia play android 7 is the latest that it can support for now, and if u wanna chose between GamepBoy PI and This, my advice is to get this one because you can play GameBoy Pi's games on this phone as long as a lot of other 2d and 3d Platforms such as PlayStation1 ...

now problem is when i write fastboot flash boot and then attach boot file and enter then error show your device must be rooted and then i root my device and check my device is rooted then i install app they confirm my device is rooted and then i again step by step all start all procedure which show your video but again show error remote failed your device must be rooted please what i do ??

Good video. I have a question, did someone make a full working kitkat rom for xperia play? I mean with the camera working? I don't have any microsd card fast enough to install this rom.
Well for a start you don't need a fast sd card to run this one, any sd card could do it and yeah there r some videos out there with kitkat roms try an look for them, i my self tested it and it works fine on the Xplay, but i don't recommend it tho, if u wanna a good rom u better try jelly bean cm 10.1 or 10
thanks man. I used like 4 JB roms but the phone gets really slow and the video playback is really bad like chopped and laggy. I tried the latest legacy xperia Kitkat rom and was fine but the camera did not work. I just need the camera for photos not for video recording. The camera works fine on this rom? or if you could give me a link for a really working kitkat rom I'd appreciate it
I see, the camera works just fine on this one and even on the cm14 rom, i actually used Ultra slim cm10 rom for two months and played high graphic games such as "Amazing Spiderman 2" runs like very smooth, unfortunately i don't have any link for a good working kitkat rom ( try and look for it in xda forum ), i'll soon upload a video guide on how to use an sd card as a virtual Ram, to make the phone faster on any rom

Hello ! the problem is with your flashtool, install an older version, or use the same as the one in the video, you can google it and download it, good luck !

@@robinsupernabova9881 Okay so ! what you need to do first is to check if your cmd is open in the right directory (platform-tools, or adb minimal) like in the video, but if you can't use SHIFT, open Cmd normally then navigate to that folder using commands,
Once you get to the directory type this command : set ANDROID_PRODUCT_OUT=the path of that directory where adb minimal is or platform-tools, it should look like this : set ANDROID_PRODUCT_OUT=C:/users/...... then after that it should work .

Hello ! first of all thanks for your comment and i hope you'll find this helpful.
So i only own one xperia play, and i'm not selling it but i could help you make yours an amazing gaming phone.
So there are two kinds of Roms for the Xperia Play, Roms based on Emulation (which are my favorite) and Roms based on android Gaming.
So if you want to run Old games and emulate them like : Nintendo - Playstation 1 - dreamcast - Psp and all the old consoles, then the Rom you need is a Light IceCream sandwich, i could give you some examples such as (ICS SPEED)
But if your main focus is Android Games and gaming then Gingerbread Roms are the best such as (NXT Gaming Rom).
Installation process of these roms is simple, use this www.xda-developers.com as your guide.
and the thing you said about sliding and goes into gaming screen its just the official app that you can install on any Rom.
Check back here if you encounter any problems and i'll help you, as for the games there are plenty of websites where you can get free games for any old console, (look for old game roms).

hey Nightmare, the firmeware 79 does not appear in flashtool for me, do you know what causes that ? is it the flashtool version that is not the same as the one you used ? 0.9.21.0 => 0.9.25.0
Make sure, you are in the right folder where you put the firmware, and also make sure the 79 firmware type is " .ftf ", no i've used latest versions of flashtool and it woked for me .
@@softwarearena7592 thanks you for answering me. i simply did not touch the ftf at all. also there is a "R800i_4.0.2.A.0.42" .ftf that appeared from me forgetting that my phone was pluged into the pc before launching flashtool. wich does appear. but the .79 just wont
from browsing my issue i think that is because the .79.ftf may be corrupted. do you know where i could find another one ?
@@odarvb1119 U r welcome, well the firmware in the link a provided in the description is not corrupted, i've downloaded it several times and it works, but maybe it got corrupted while you downloaded it , it happens sometimes, so u just have to download it again, i'm using IDM for downloading stuff, try to do the same ... and also make sure that the 79.ftf is located in the same folder as the one that appeared in flashtool " R800i_4.0.2.A.0.42 " .

I heard that LX team tried to install oreo on xperia play, but the rom was unstable

I bought my play for quiet a while but never have chance to use except for play some pretty old ps1 game, so today I decide to upgrade it, but I've met a whole mess from upgrade to CM12 and 13, at CM12, flashtool didn't work, from loader.sin error to devices doesn't receive any command so I skip this flash .79 part (no matter how many version of flashtool I tried, nothing success, fastboot work fine, flashboot also realized) and success in flash the CM12 through sd card, at CM13, flashtool didn't work too, because of formatting the whole sd card to ext4 meaning that I can't flash CM13 through sd card, so I tried to flash in adb and this is what I met:error protocol fault and if I use the same command again , it will be: device not found (the adb drivers in device manager also disappear), plug out and plug in usb cable, the adb drivers reconigzed but at the command step , back to square one so is there any way, to fix this? or any way to flash through sd card ? can I make a fat32 partition for flash use ?I have seen this article but don't know it can be reliable or not androidbiits.com/sony-ericsson-xperia-play-r800i-android-6-0-1-marshmallow-legacyxperia-cm13-rom/please help
Well, i'll give you the most important steps you should do before or while upgrading to Cm13, and never skip them :
- First of all, the drivers : make sure u installed them and asked you while installing to continue even if they are from an unknown source ( adb, xperia play, fastboot and flasboot)
- Make sure your Bootloader is unlocked or can be unlocked by dialing *#*#7378423#*#* Tap Service info -> Configuration -> Rooting Status, If your boot loader can be unlocked it will be saying yes in Bootloader unlock allowed. if its a no then this won't work for you sorry.
-While formatting and making Ext4 partition use a card reader, and if it still doesn't work make a small swap( about 200 mb) partition next to Ext4 and try again.
- Use the same flashtool version as the one in the video(old one ) cause its the best when it comes to flashing Firmwars .

Hi, so the bootloader is already unlocked in this video, my phone came with it like that, and yes you have to unlock the bootloader first, if you go to the Sony official website there's a guide how to do it there for Xperia Play, its pretty simple and quick, good luck.

Ah !! u need to Disable Signed Driver Enforcement, for non-digitally signed drivers to install properly ... Okay listen bro , u need to go to win10 settings/UpdateNsecurity/Recovery and click on restart now under Advanced startup , at the next starting u gonna see some startup settings , click on Troubleshoot/Advanced options/Startup Settings/Restart ... On the Startup Settings screen press 7 or F7 to disable driver signature enforcement. then you're good to GO : )

@Nightmare +Nightmare Got it working using ADB on my mac. And it's all installed. Except the keyboard keeps on crashing. Do you have any ideas? It has the message "unfortunately android keyboard (aosp) has stopped". I Googled and found that the best thing to do is to clear the keyboard cache, but that does not help (even clearing the keyboard data does nothing). Also the Rom seems a little on the slow side. Anything that can be done to speed it up or is to be expected because of the age of the hardware?

you need to download the library from any website like xda, it comes in .zip format and flash it through your recovery, just like you installed gapps, you can download the original or the updated version.

Hello, well for overclocking, u can't with this kernel, u need another kernel which means another custom rom, the ones who overlook it up to 2ghz, used kernels that support that frequency and also u can only do it with stock firmware 2.x

The firmware in this video is not the one that's on a download link..so so it is video is useless... and there is no instructions for how to transfer the files into the flash program to be used also doesn't show how to get the TFT file onto the program
No, the firmware in the video is the exact same one in the download link, and follow closely what i did, i put the FTF file on my desktop and i opened flashtool and chose the directory where the FTF file is, which is my desktop so the program loaded it automatically

I have already found (R800_4.0.2.A.0.79.ftf) and put in the correct folder for the Flash Tool to recognize ... but I have a new problem when doing flash, appears appears something written in red on the installation of the drives ... :(
First u need to check if your flash drivers r properly installed, if u're using win10 u need to Disable Signed Driver Enforcement, so that the drivers will install, Second thing do not connect your phone to pc before it says so in flashtool, means load ftf file wait few seconds then a box will appear saying to plug in your usb cable, connect the phone and that's it
I am using Win7, the error appears after the Flashtool itself asks to connect the mobile phone, something related to the lack of installation of some drive. Now I will try to download all the drivers through flash tool / drive.
So its because of ur drivers, no need to download just go to your flashtool installation folder then go to drivers folder and install all of them

The Bluetooth works just fine for me, so what u need to do is make sure you installed the latest version of CM13, its in the description if you don't have it downloaded, also it is very important that you follow the exact instructions on my video and do those cache and factory reset, one more thing after you install and use it for few minutes, reboot and everything should be working after.
