Hey Robles! Nice guide. It all goes well but I can't enter Clockwork recovery, neither vol+ or vol- or even power button at vibrate work. Any ideas?
I almost gave up and without this I would've thank you so much. I had a lot of issues especially with rooting the phone I had to use a lower version to flash a lower firmware successfully then a newer version to root it.
Very well-paced and informative video. If I ever get my hands on one I'd love to have it next to my other PS stuff and my VAIO :) Very jealous of a girl I knew who had an Xperia Play in highschool and played crash 1 on it legitimately, good times.
Just bought an r800i it's a pretty snappy phone given its age and that's on stock firmware
Nothing is supported though on stock

I have a Verizon sony ericsson xperia play r800i with android version 2.3.4. Can i follow the same process you display in your video without having problem of losing my device?
Could you make a list of games and apps that work? I've been using mine about a year and have ran alot of cool stuff, n64 runs great.
Is epsxe emulator full speed on the device? Preferably Tekken 3 full speed.
Do you have any tips on flashing the ICS rom on it? I'm having a hard time finding the actual ftf files and I was hoping you'd know where I could find it or find a custom rom with that version of Android capable of running on the hardware
Hey i watched the video, but I noticed that some people were saying that the Verizon xperia is a bit different. I actually ordered one before seeing this video. I tried going to your discord to see if i can get some help but it didn't work. Is there a specific tutorial on rooting this kind of xperia play?

why would you use a normal ps1 emulator when the xperia play partially has the hardware to play ps1 games in the first place? are there instructions for installing ps1 games the way the xperia was designed to play them?

Hey Robles!, When I opened the zergRush, it said the first part failed? I noticed my Sony ericsson Xperia play is powered by verizon, and yours isnt. To be honest I don’t think this thing would have near enough horse power to emulate PSP games. The only way I could see this thing playing PSP games is if Sony ported them to this phone specifically.
@@rastamouse7861 you’re right about that. I installed a PSP emulator and it ran like crp 💩 I’m just emulating 90s consoles for the moment

Yeah I remember seeing them for cheap a while ago, now they are going for crazy money. You may see some cheap one on eBay for like 75-90 bucks but those are Chinese knockoffs. The White and Red color ways are so hard to find. There is a red one for sale on eBay for 300+ in the box.

I followed every step however the flash tool app didn't work. It was scanning the device untol the message "Waiting for your device.After 60secs,stop waiting will be forced" does anybody know why this happens? Thanks in advance.

Hey, thanks for the tutorial. I'm having the same issue as another commenter, but I don't believe it was every solved. When rooting, it states that the part 1 exploit fails and sometimes it reads "waiting for device". Any help is appreciated.
Hi! Is your xperia play a verizon logo version?
I rooted mine which is a classic version without problem with this tutorial. By I also had a Verizon version that I wanted to root.
And just like you I got the message that part 1 of the exploit failed.
I tried on several different PCs and always the same message. It looks like the original Verizon rom is different....
@@likmus1976 Yes mine is the Verizon R800x, but I've since fixed the problem. I used a tool called EasyRoot or ERoot and it worked.

Cannot access SONY ERICSSON mode within settings, sadly. Unavailable menu option!
There's no way to disable MTP mode, as the Sony Ericsson mode is not available in Gingerbread 2.3.4; your version works, though.

little late but from what i heard as long as you format it to fat32 and go into storage settings and click insert sd card it should work

yes i got one in good condition from aliexpress the power button have some damage but its not big, also little dirty under the moving parts

Three are no longer rare or hard to find. Their are tons of them on Ali express or around $75us.

sadly i have 2 that i cant root, they are unrootable versions to this day.

I only recently acquired my Play, Anne was disappointed to find that almost NOTHING worked. I tried following your tutorial last night, but it would constantly get stuck at Flashing Part1 and would timeout. Does anyone have any suggestions? I’m really desperate to root this 🙏
You probably got a Verizon version of the phone.

@@webinzdude Yeah unfortunately it seems that the Verizon version has a different ROM.
So the flashing don't works...
I have two versions of the phone:
- A regular one that was rooted without problem with that tutorial.
- A Verizon version that stucks at the installation of the part 1 exploit.

I just spent 5 hours on it. Not working for me with a R800I and windows 10.
I have the message "Waiting for device. After 60 secs stop waiting will be forced" then "forced stop Waiting" then "The part one exploit did not work" and "cleaning files"
I really tried a lot of different things before to post here. There must be something wrong, the phone is not restarting. I read a lot of forums but i dont see the problem. If someone could be kind and help me i would be very thankful for it... Thanks a lot
PS: the phone is not reacting and not restarting.. it just stays on
Just fixed it, i had to install another ftf file in the phone. Thanks for the tutorial buddy!

I had three of them. I hated that outdated browser. It’s really good Gameboy emulator. It’s weird no one has done this video. There is a built in ps1 emulator as well. It’s cumbersome to use. I installed psp on this but it was bad. Couldn’t run N64. In theory, DS could be installed but not at gingerbread and it won’t run well.
Luckily me I think we’re spreading rumors on the Internet that the PlayStation phone actually existed works very happy about that the Sony company is actually going to make a new Sony Xperia play phone I would rather than called the PlayStation 4 the name that they’re choosing is horrible everyone in the world knows what a PlayStation is but what the hell is in Xperia play that sounds like a completely new company that I really don’t wanna part of lol
