This is genuinely impressive. You can tell that she's listening and processing, just not allowing it to show on her face apart from a few small cracks here and there.
I'm glad Grant is self aware enough to acknowledge how much he crutches on that improv thing. This episode also continues my favorite theme "brief glimpses into the dire financial straits of previous employees of College Humor".
I still get chills from Ally talking about their credit card debt on Dirty Laundry. And it hurts even more considering that show is after Total Forgiveness.
In the Survivor episode, Lou Wilson’s “Please let me win” may have been enough to crack Brennan, but here Raph’s “I would really like the $100” did absolutely Nothing to Katie. Frankly, the other contestants are Lucky Lou voted her out of that game.
this is the first time i've ever heard somebody call katie "katherine" i think and it would've been really powerful if raph hadn't sounded so utterly defeated already
The thing that gets me about Katie is that she manages to be completely stone faced while also often being the funniest person in the room. It's one thing to just be humorless, but Katie is on another level of comedy mastery.
Everyone deserves someone like Katie in their life. Someone who stares you dead in the face when you make a dumb joke, lets things stay awkwardly quiet, then make an even dumber joke without cracking a smile.
Big fan of Grant thinking Katie would sabotage herself with a funny punchline only for her to turn around and say "That they don't have to be alive anymore..."
So I went through every episode of Breaking News and recorded all the players and scores and details into a big spreadsheet, like a healthy person does, and have some quick Katie Marovitch facts for you! Katie's made 24 appearances on Breaking News, which makes her the third most common...contestant? Player? Victim? Let's go with performer. 17 of those appearances were zero-score. Only seven people have had even one zero-break appearance. Lily Du and Christine Medrano are tied for second place with two each. So Katie's had twice as many zero-score appearances as everyone else combined. She has broken eleven times in the entire history of the show (unless the lost episodes exist and she broke in one of them), has an overall average score of -0.458 per appearance, and is the undisputed highest scorer out of anyone with multiple appearances. (Brian Huskey made one appearance and scored a zero in it, so he kinda breaks the average. But he's guaranteed to stay in the #1 spot as long as he doesn't come back on, so that's nice for him!)
@@iPancake3 Apparently my comment failed somehow, sorry about that. I didn't make it quite that detailed, but episodes 507 and 512 are the only ones where she breaks three times (each), so they're worth revisiting if you're looking for ways to break Katie! Although if you're actually Grant researching the sequel, you have to put my name in the credits now.
Ok but now do the same challenge but with Amy. The person who makes her hit 100 laughs gets 1000 dollars. If she doesn’t hit 100 laughs, she keeps the money.
They really need to do an episode where all the highest-scoring people in the history of the show are pitted against each other. First one to break instantly loses 100 points.
I know everyone's been wanting this episode, but I personally think that if you dedicate an entire episode to making someone break, that it's going to backfire. She can handle the pressure. You have to catch her by surprise.
It's completely on brand for them to hijack and episode by him and turn it on him. Buddy got flammed so hard on one that he walked in front of the camera to defend himself.
I love Katie so much, she's such a highlight of everything she's in. Loved her as the weasel on d20 - as a Brit her English accent was terrible but in a funny way, not in a cringe way like some people do. I just really like her and respect her comedy a lot, she's great. More Katie! ❤
@@torbandesma I think the deal is that all WAG and SAG members stop working on anything until a project gets permission from their union to continue. That could mean that some projects get started again long before the strike ends, but I don't know if that is more or less likely with this project.
I have only ever seen Katie laugh once, and that was when somebody mentioned children in cages.
Going out of your way to try and break Katie seems like the perfect way to ensure she never breaks.
I feel like that's definitely true lol
plus the $1000 she was promised.
I think incentivizing it so heavily with 1000 dollars puts a lot of pressure on her
No, offering her a thousand dollars when she really needed money was the surest way to ensure she doesn’t break.
I love that “Katherine, I would really like a hundred dollars” is the thing that almost got her
Trying to make Katie laugh is like trying to drown a fish.
There's a reason Lou voted her out first on the first Survivor episode of Game Changer. lol
you can actually do this if there’s not enough oxygen in the water, or if you mention kids in cages
😂😂😂
"I'd really like a hundred dollars" has similar energy to Lou's "please let me win", except, like, ten times more pathetic (affectionate).
I feel like that might have been the closest anyone got - or maybe I'm reading into it
This is genuinely impressive. You can tell that she's listening and processing, just not allowing it to show on her face apart from a few small cracks here and there.
You can see her tensing her jaw a couple times to keep herself from breaking! She’s a talented actor, total control of face.
The one time ive seen her laugh was when mentioning kids in cages. This woman is something else
That and "we've met before" I think she broke a little
In the Survivor episode, Lou Wilson’s “Please let me win” may have been enough to crack Brennan, but here Raph’s “I would really like the $100” did absolutely Nothing to Katie. Frankly, the other contestants are Lucky Lou voted her out of that game.
you can see it gets her the closest to laughing, but man she really powered through it
"That they don't have to be alive any more" is the one most Katie sentence ever spoken.
i think her dad might need to see a quack doctor
The end is probably the most emotion I’ve ever seen from Katie
It's actually insane, she won a literal thousand dollars and the corner's of her lips curled upwards slightly.
Oh my god grant getting so desperate he chimes in from off camera it’s perfect
"The only thing that makes Katie laugh: her uncontainable joy at the thought of imprisoning children in cages." -IceMetalPunk
the most impressive part of this episode was katie made the whole studio laugh multiple times while everyone was trying to make HER laugh
This episode shows that Grant can be a good writer, I mean while he did basically have EVERYONE improvise, his lines for Katie were very in character.
He never stood a fucking chance. Pressuring her just makes her stronger.
Katie “Carbon” Marovitch.
I love how the instant the video ended, she laughed
Nothing funnier than ruining Grant
this is the first time i've ever heard somebody call katie "katherine" i think and it would've been really powerful if raph hadn't sounded so utterly defeated already
It went from a power move to a man crawling while pinned under debris
I love that a whole team of comedians becomes so awkward and struggles to think of One Joke between them when faced with Katie lmao.
The thing that gets me about Katie is that she manages to be completely stone faced while also often being the funniest person in the room. It's one thing to just be humorless, but Katie is on another level of comedy mastery.
Actually, her dad goes to a normal doctor... but the guy's a quack.
It's such a shame, webbed feet is a terrible mallardy
Katie's Dad's feet are so webbed, his podiatrist is named Charlotte
What's great about Katie is in anything where she is allowed to laugh she laughs a bunch she just can control it better than anyone
Yeah, the outtake from "Ultramechatron Team Go!" have some great moments of Katie joking around and laughing.
Games have rules.
This line must have hurt Brennan's competitive soul, because she beat him.
Seeing her smile at the end was worth it
0:50 “Don’t touch me” Because she’s ticklish like she said in the Game Changer episode with throwing knives
I am the anti-Katie. I can't even tell a joke with a straight face, never mind hearing a good one.
Amy?
1:22 me realizing her name is katherine
That was truly wild, how can Katie's name be Katherine and not Katie 😢
@@ary3901 EXACTLY
The smile at the end when she won that 1k was great
Everyone deserves someone like Katie in their life.
Someone who stares you dead in the face when you make a dumb joke, lets things stay awkwardly quiet, then make an even dumber joke without cracking a smile.
The fact that it's not even her, it's an act she puts on to mess with people, is even better.
Count me in, I always thought she was super hot.
Katie's so good at keeping it together that if you saw her having fun it would be unsettling.
Learn from Sam. Don't try to break them, just shower them with honest praise, and they'll disarm themselves.
Big fan of Grant thinking Katie would sabotage herself with a funny punchline only for her to turn around and say "That they don't have to be alive anymore..."
To be fair, it's a very funny punchline
Katie in this episode: "Grant...how do you wish to die?"
This channel deserves at least half of the Dropout advertising budget

Thank you for putting this together. I wondered about the figures but didn’t have the follow through to do anything about it. Much appreciated
Thank you for the stats. very insightful.
For me, the most memorable Katie's break was the Sam episode when Caroline said "Kids in cages".
Love Schaubach's tone at the end, almost like "Grant, you stupid idiot, how was this going to work?"
The only time i saw Katie break was for the kids in cages joke during the Sam Reich smear campaign episode.

It's scenarios like this that they should go with the tried and true method: Call Wolfe (Katie's husband)

After the first horrible joke, I knew the rest of the cast was cooked and Katie was getting that $1K.

How about an episode where Brennan turns into solid gold, because that's equally as likely
I don't think that's physically possible lol
