  • Join us as we spend 24 hours in #india #kerala on an amazing Houseboat eating Delicious South Indian #food.
Kerala is known as the "Land of Spices" because it traded spices with Europe as well as with many ancient civilizations with the oldest historical records of the Sumerians from 3000 BCE.
Kerala, a state on India's tropical Malabar Coast, has nearly 600km of Arabian Sea shoreline. It's known for its palm-lined beaches and backwaters, a network of canals. Inland are the Western Ghats, mountains whose slopes support tea, coffee and spice plantations as well as wildlife. National parks like Eravikulam and Periyar, plus Wayanad and other sanctuaries, are home to elephants, langur monkeys and tigers.
Kerala cuisine is a culinary style originated in the Kerala, a state on the southwestern Malabar Coast of India. Kerala cuisine offers a multitude of both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes prepared using fish, poultry and red meat with rice as a typical accompaniment. Chillies, curry leaves, coconut, mustard seeds, turmeric, tamarind, asafoetida and other spices are also used in the preparation.
Kerala (English: /ˈkɛrələ/ ⓘ/ KERR-ə-lə), called Keralam in Malayalam (Malayalam: [keːɾɐɭɐm] ⓘ), is a state on the Malabar Coast of India. It was formed on 1 November 1956, following the passage of the States Reorganisation Act, by combining Malayalam-speaking regions of the erstwhile regions of Cochin, Malabar, South Canara, and Travancore. Spread over 38,863 km2 (15,005 sq mi), Kerala is the 21st largest Indian state by area. It is bordered by Karnataka to the north and northeast, Tamil Nadu to the east and south, and the Lakshadweep Sea to the west. With 33 million inhabitants as per the 2011 census, Kerala is the 13th-largest Indian state by population. It is divided into 14 districts with the capital being Thiruvananthapuram. Malayalam is the most widely spoken language and is also the official language.
The Kerala backwaters are a network of brackish lagoons and canals lying parallel to the Arabian Sea of the Malabar coast of Kerala state in south-western India. It also includes interconnected lakes, rivers, and inlets, a labyrinthine system formed by more than 900 km (560 mi) of waterways, and sometimes compared to bayous. The network includes five large lakes linked by canals, both man made and natural, fed by 38 rivers, and extending virtually half the length of Kerala state. The backwaters were formed by the action of waves and shore currents creating low barrier islands across the mouths of the many rivers flowing down from the Western Ghats range. In the midst of this landscape there are a number of towns and cities, which serve as the starting and end points of backwater cruises. There are 34 backwaters in Kerala. Out of it, 27 are located either closer to Arabian Sea or parallel to the sea. The remaining 7 are inland navigation routes.

There was one from Mark Wiens but after his video you both really seemed to appreciate our food and describe the tastes well. Thank you 🙏🏼 You've earned another subscriber 😊

Brother, I loved your statement, "We don't need spoon and forks "
Eating food with your hands offers several benefits, including:
    1. Enhanced Sensory Experience: Touching food can engage more senses, enhancing the overall eating experience. The texture, temperature, and consistency of the food become more noticeable.
    2. Improved Digestion: The practice of eating with hands is thought to stimulate digestive juices in the stomach, which can aid in better digestion.
    3. Mindful Eating: Using hands to eat can slow down the eating process, encouraging mindfulness and allowing for better portion control.
    4. Cultural Connection: In many cultures, eating with hands is a traditional practice that fosters a sense of connection to cultural roots and heritage.
    5. Motor Skills Development: For children, eating with hands can help develop fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
    6. Natural Portion Control: Eating with hands can make you more aware of the amount of food you are consuming, potentially leading to better portion control and preventing overeating.

@@KayandGogo It's a little different even within the state. The ones on the northern slopes towards Assam are sweet but will have a little bit of fibre whereas the ones in the southern slopes towards Bangladesh are both sweet & without fibre perhaps because of the natural lime content in the soil. What you preferred is a different subject itself.
Just because you preferred one boat that need not be the best in the market. Every youtuber appreciates what he shows( unless there is an agenda or bad experience.

As long as the dish is served it doesn’t really matter from left or from right. At the end of the day we had an amazing service with all the staff being super friendly and delicious food and also very very comfortable bed clean room. We can not find tiny little false with the service and boat. If he served the food right to left good on him going against the odds 🙏🏽❤️

I agree with you. But when you introduce a food to a guest, it means you also introduced a culture. Food may same in different parts of the world, but the culture make it unique. And that uniqnes make a guest more satisfying.
So when you introduce a culture through food, the host must follow the tradition. It make the host to proud his own unique identity. This unique identity makes the world different.
As a foreigner you will get traditional Kerala food in most of the Europe, USA and may more parts in the world. The teast will match atleast 80% allover the world (You must find authentic Kerala restaurant). But when you visit in Kerala, you will get the missing 20% through the culture. (Like the coconut alcohol and the local people).
Enjoy your time in Kerala and rest of the India.
      With love and respect,
      Sarath from Alappuzha (alappy).

I still remember when I was kid serving Sadya (the traditional meal serve in banana leaf), the age-old peoples always give instructions to me that food should be served as traditional way. Because it is linked with our digestive system. From the left top side of the leaf, starting with spicy pickles (mango, lime and ginger). Then thoran(cabage, carrot etc.) following with saure and little sweet curries (pineapple, oolan,kuuttukari...).
Left to right top side of the leaf completed.
Then starting from down side of the leaf right side
Aviyal (you tried the crunchy vegetables). Then middle part, rice should be served along with daal or sambar. Then the bottam left side, 2 pappad. End ofthe bottom left corner Salt, sweet and salty chips for the finanishing touch.
So it's like a oval shape circle.
Why is important to serve in this method ? It's helps the complete digestive system. How ?
      1) starting with spicy pickles to alarm the brain that food is coming and need to produce more digestive juices in the stomach.
      2) drink a mouthful water to ensure that your mouth and esophagus are wet enough to pass the food.
      3) Eat rice with sambar and other dishes.
      4) pappad make you a crunchy feelings
      5) After finished your main course, it's time for dessert. Traditionally it will be paayasam served in the same Banana leaf. (Use a pappad with payasam is a perfect combination)
The dessert give signal to the brain that your lunch is completed and the brain make you feel like you are experienced a full meal.
      6) finally the Salty and sweet chips helps you to freshness in your mouth. (Also have a reason, their is a chance of an omitting tendency when you are traveling or resting. The salty and crispy sweet chips will helps you to overcome this situation.)
That's why traditional Sadya is very important in wedding and rituals.
