My fav advice you listed is look up ideas how to style items you aren’t sure of…
That’s my biggest issue. I have clothes I love - am not quite sure how to wear them.

It''s super helpful for getting new ideas about styling pieces in your closet! 😊

I know I have way too many clothes and accessories and have decluttered at least 20 big garbage bags full in the last few months. But, when I go through the remaining items again, I look at every item and I love it. I do have a few poly skirts that I’ve replaced with silk ones (thanks to Quince’s absolutely perfect and reasonably-priced ones), and some sweaters that have synthetic-fiber blends that can go (after suffering torments in synthetics/ blends for years, I recently learned that I’m allergic to most synthetics, no wonder). But other than that, I just don’t know what else to purge. If it’s current, high-quality, comfortable and I love the fit, fabric, color and style, I’m not sure why I should declutter them. Other than lack of space, that is, I live in a Victorian cottage which didn’t have any closets. We managed to squeeze in two narrow ones for clothes, but it’s not nearly enough and I have clothes on three portable garment rails. Am I pushing too hard, just to have less? I just don’t know.

If you love and wear every item in your closet then that's the goal! For some people being minimal works, for others having more items they love works. There's no right answer. It's what makes you happy when you look at your closet.

I agree, if you love all the pieces and you wear them, keep them!!! One approach could be to look for duplicates and reduce any - but only if you’re not wearing them. Or, you could try to put seasonal items in storage to have more space available in the house (in a luggage under the bed perhaps?). Another idea is to get a free app like Acloset to digitise your closet, and start tracking what you wear over 6-12 months (or longer as desired). Those apps also use AI to create outfit suggestions, and if you can’t create like 3-5 outfits using that piece, maybe you decide it’s just not versatile enough to keep. These are just ideas. I think decluttering in a slow way is better than a rushed process so you avoid letting go of things you love due feeling pressured. Having limited space is tricky and I understand as I live in the UK and we have almost no space for clothing.

@kimberlyperrotis8962 I know just how you feel believe me we have a 1400 sq ft home with full basement I have two dressers in each bedroom and clothes in all three bedroom closets I have broke hangers in each closet trying to take stuff in or out ! I have lost count of North Face jackets ! A hallway closet full over 20 ! Most never worn !
Closets full , dressers full , and tote 6 + ft tall down stairs of plastic totes of clothes and designer hand bags !
I literally wear the same stuff day in and day out each week !
Last year I donated 35 black leaf bags of clothing a lot with tags ! And I did 20 plus bags again this Spring !!! I don’t wear 95 % of my clothes hand bags also
      But I love everything ! 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️

I’m having the hardest time to commit to trying stuff on. When I was younger I loved this step. I moved all my try on item to my rack. Today I decided it may be better to take 1 item try it on and then make outfits so hopefully that will help me concentrate. It’s overwhelming but my goal is to just be able to pick my outfit for the day without doing the work everyday! I subscribed today as your info and videos are very bang on thanks🦋

Thanks for subscribing Denise and sharing your experience and challenges! Have you thought about doing a try-on session with a friend or partner? And putting on your favorite music, lighting a candle, and grabbing your favorite drink? It may help to make it feel more like fun than a chore. I like that you are committing to picking 1 item and trying to create looks. It may also be helpful to photograph the looks you create with the item and have a separate album on your phone for future outfit inspiration. 🙂Glad to be part of this journey with you!

@@EricaBallStyle thanks Erica! I think I liked doing this step with my sister. She lives out of town. My daughter is helpful but she has a very defined style. I like modern and classic with a bit of edge. I really appreciate your videos and will try what u have suggested 🤗

@@deniseyounger6004 Let me know how it goes! You could always facetime or zoom with your sister. I know it's not the same, but I bet it will still be fun. 😘

I agree that you could take one piece you are unsure of, create an outfit and wear if for the day. See how you feel. Is it comfortable? Do you feel confident in it? By the end of the day you will know if you want to let it go. If you decide to keep it, try to create another outfit with it the next week! I think slow and steady is okay. Sometimes I have to wear the piece all day to know if I really don’t like it because of the fit, for example. I might find myself pulling at it all day because it’s bunching weird in the shoulders, for example. It might look good at first in the mirror, but actually wearing all day it is my true test for things I already own which I feel uncertain about. It really helps seal the deal.

Good idea to write one’s goal down, mine is: not to have my bedroom in particular, and my house in general, overwhelmed by my clothes. I bought too much during the pandemic, and for years before that, after discovering fast-fashion. No more of that, I just don’t look at those brands anymore, I know the synthetic fabrics just aren’t wearable.

If i got rid of every item i didnt love--id only have 4 things in my closet!! I have about 5 t shirts and 4 jogging pants that i wear every day, week after week . I dont love them, but im retired and spend most of my time in my apartment!

    • @EricaBallStyle

Only 4 items! You deserve to love all of your clothes Diane. Even if you only dress up for you.

This what II do....if you’re not sure about an item...wear it that day. If it doesn’t work out just remove it and donate. This way you’ll be satisfied with your decision.

I agree. I did regret it when I wore a dress to work that I hadn't worn for a while - an hour into my day I realised that I didn't really like the dress, and couldn't wait to get home, 10 hours later, to take it off! But I've found there's always a reason why I'm not wearing something. It's a learning moment when I work out what it is 😂
