That’s the thing though. THEY DON’T NEED TO because the iPads are using the same exact hardware and architecture as Macs. Its purely just because they are artificially gatekeeping the iPad so that it doesn’t canibalize the MacBook
@@NightFoxZero I wish they would let it cannibalize the MacBook. I want a daily driver IPAD (don't mind if it's on the thicker side) that's capable of programming, video editing, game design and light gaming. I agree they need to streamline the devices. Only have MacBook & MacBook Pro, iPad mini, iPad & iPad Pro. Improve the file system in iPadOS & let apps fully run in the background on the Pro models.
Still working through the vid, but I would agree that that price is absolutely a huge issue but for me the bigger issue is the OS. The Apple ecosystem is pretty much garbage for any regular use. For artists I know it is highly loved, but most artists I know (working in the gaming industry) just use PCs thanks to the improvements in PC software options plus the better price points and easier customization options. Add in not having to deal with the crap Apple tries to pull all the time. Plus the artists I do know that still stay with Apple all use full desktop units and the couple I have asked don't feel an iPad has any use for their role. There are people who will certainly have a use for such a pad, but that comes back to the price. The use cases for it can be better solved by products that cost half the price.
I think the only super strong selling point for the pro (after recent changes) is if you do crazy layering things in procreate or something similar. Other than that I think air fits 90% of consumers needs 95% of the time. As a developer I think id prefer a laptop / desktop with this as an add on
You guys clearly aren't power users. As somebody who works remotely uses After Effects (and blender and maya and tvpaint), I need a portable system that supports 64-128gb of ram. even the most pro ipads can't do this, even if Apple let them run the software. Just thought i'd offer my two cents outside of the techtube bubble.
I agree with matt. when people see a macbook, they more times than not refer to it as a laptop. it doesnt matter what tablet it is, when people see someone using a tablet, it almost always referred to as an ipad
I do hope we at least get the ability for Mac OS Apps to installed/sideloaded on these new iPad's. Especially with the Keyboard attachment, it's a no brainer.
I think laptop innovation peaked at 2021 with the apple arm chips. Laptops are perfect now, the only problem that the apple "a" series chips introduced (if it can be called a problem), is that now they are no longer limited by the size or form factor of the device they're in. Basically it doesn't make any sense to make 5 or 6 different devices with the same hardware to fulfill different use cases. Apple just has to make the ipad a little bit more comfortable to use as a MacBook and just allow mac os apps to run natively. Everybody would want one. It's the perfect "do it all" device. Developers would eventually optimize their UIs to be more touch friendly, and every user would have what they need from this device.
My iPad Pro died while I was using Procreate and it won't turn back on. Apple genuis said the logic board is damaged and won't respond. So this less than two years old very expensive iPad died suddenly with no warning signs after working great for months. I didn't have my work saved in the cloud so I'm out of luck, there's no way to retrieve any info from the device. Let this be a warning sign, apple's planned obsolescence is alarming. Don't spend money on this device it won't last no matter how much you take care of it, save yourself the heartbreak, and hours of extra work.
We just need to get rid of MacBook Airs and have the iPads replaced the MacBook Air and then if someone needs something very powerful then they will buy a MacBook Pro if they don’t need something as powerful buy the iPad Air or the iPad pros could still run macOS
iPads are my portable Roku devices. I can’t put any of my information onto it like my personal iMessages, photos, notes, safari history. I just can’t. The problem with iPad OS is that there is no switch-user, guest mode, or at least kids mode. The iPads are just portable roku devices to me. My iPads just have Disney+, Netflix, RUclips tv, RUclips, etc. I really don’t wanna put my personal information and projects onto any of these iPads cause if someone like a friend or a kid wants to use it, then they will see my personal information. Please Apple 🙏 add multi-user or at least a guest mode onto these damn iPads. Guided access is not enough!
The Mac and iPad are the exact same hardware at this point, same architecture same cpu. They can easily make a compatibility layer to add macos support. To make it worse iPhone OS has been based on MacOS sense the very first version. Same filesystem structure, almost the same libraries at times. I'm so fired up about why they produce hardware like this and provide literally nothing in terms of support. M series ipads have been out for a long time, developers are not supporting it with its restrictions of it having to be touch first. We don't care we just want to do work. I don't want a M4 to browse the web. What a waste of silicon. This is getting close to the old days of apple when they had all these lines of hardware and would not just stick to a few products. We don't need the Macbook when we have the iPad pro
yes, kill the mac, delete all the ports and live with 1 type C port like they did back in 2015. i dare them to put a full sized hdmi port on that iPad with it being 5mm thick. ppl call it a glorified netflix machine for a reason, putting a Desktop SoC on it is still stupid since its still locked down to hell and 98% of ppl use it to watch movies and play casual games. nobody out there is editing videos or drawing on it every day and even then, most of them pros would probably just get a walcom tab or a laptop/computer with more power than this tiny tablet for that price and even with all that, it will still fail to do most of what a galaxy tab can do these days with a mobile SoC including having a full on file system with desktop features and entire windows/linux emulation.
Apple wants you to buy a MacBook and a iPad, that's why the iPad will never get Macos
This. And Apple started with MacBooks, it’s in their DNA. I feel it would go against what their vision is for tech.

I feel like it's totally possible with very little effort on Apple's part; setting aside the absurd price that Apple would want to charge us for the appropriate amount of storage for the aforementioned tasks.
That iPad is too big!?!?! No way! I want a bigger iPad! Like a 14” or 15” iPad!
I agree they need to streamline the devices. Only have MacBook & MacBook Pro, iPad mini, iPad & iPad Pro. Improve the file system in iPadOS & let apps fully run in the background on the Pro models.
austin always seems annoyed when filming This is
Still working through the vid, but I would agree that that price is absolutely a huge issue but for me the bigger issue is the OS.
Also, that cam looks absolutely awful. My 100 dollar web cam has better picture quality. Did they forget to remove a plastic cover or something?
Say hi to Tim Apple next time you see him.
Apple opening anything up?
Never gonna happen.
Hot take: I would still take current iPad over a touchscreen Mac.
The keyboard is cool but they need to make it fold into a tablet mode. It sucks taking off the keyboard whenever I need it to be a tablet
Matt telling Austin to work out more is funny asf I'm just saying
Apple, giving me more reasons not to buy their products.
IPad OS is holding the iPad back. But it's intentionally. Apple wants you to buy a Mac as well.
I got the pro. Im not an apple person so its a great addition to my creative workflow.
I can email, websurf, game and everything else I need to do ... on my $60 tablet!
loving the shirt! shout out to Rochester NY
All the specs and still no calculator app.
It’s coming, they announced it about a month ago
@@koobs4549weirdly a few weeks ago the calculator app icon was as showing the blank blueprint app icon like you’d see if an app is updating.
Just make your own, it's easy.
iPads are my portable Roku devices.
If Apple got rid of the MacBook to focus on a boring ass tablet, I would be switching to Linux on my next laptop purchase. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I think Apple is just keeping a balance of how much can they get people to buy vs consolidating products and losing money unfortunately.
yes, kill the mac, delete all the ports and live with 1 type C port like they did back in 2015. i dare them to put a full sized hdmi port on that iPad with it being 5mm thick.
ppl call it a glorified netflix machine for a reason, putting a Desktop SoC on it is still stupid since its still locked down to hell and 98% of ppl use it to watch movies and play casual games.
nobody out there is editing videos or drawing on it every day and even then, most of them pros would probably just get a walcom tab or a laptop/computer with more power than this tiny tablet for that price and even with all that, it will still fail to do most of what a galaxy tab can do these days with a mobile SoC including having a full on file system with desktop features and entire windows/linux emulation.
why did u stop making reviews about products in ur main channel?
A series of terrible takes in this vid
I happen to be in possession of an 8in, it’s in my hand currently.😜
I watched this on my m4 iPad Pro
How'd it feel
I watched it on my Mini Gen 6.
Scrap the base iPad if any and keep the air
