Great video, Thanks. In my opinion, the choice comes down to 2 things, 1) Which OS best supports the apps you use, MacOs vs. iPadOs and 2) Do you prefer a touchscreen. 99% of the Apple world does pictures/photos with a iPhone. Most end-users will not even notice differences in device speed and screen clarity/color between the two devices. i realize some may see this as overly simplistic but in my opinion, most folks grossly overthink this.
I love my iPad Pro for gaming and just bought a M2 Mac Air so I can do other things since iPad Pro is always tied up with gaming. I sold my Magic Keyboard as soon as I bought my Mac. Now my iPad can be just an iPad again ha
I saw somewhere that someone said the iPad is what you use to watch content and write notes, the Mac (or pc) is what you use to design the iPad and I couldn’t agree more. The iPad is a great portable experience for playing videos, music, podcasts, note taking etc., but if you are doing actual work like 3D modeling, video editing, coding etc. then you’ll want a Mac over an iPad all day
To be honest there nothing wrong with the iPad I got an m1 iPad and I can make music, edit videos, send files to my 3D printer, design merchandise, logos, edit photos, build websites and watch movies. In multi windows. And I can also airplay to my projector with ease plus I have 5g internet a track pad when I want it and pencil for them Moments I may need it. Who ever need more tripping. That case that was an ad would be a nice add when I stream playing video games. 😂 now if I had the speed of the m3 and some new features wouldn’t hurt
Depends if you need to run specific software that isn’t possible on the iPad. If not, my opinion is the iPad should be able to do most things you’d need it to. Just make sure you really research everything you’d need to use whichever for so you don’t burn yourself with the wrong choice.
@@ComfyChroma I still have my 2015 Intel MacBook. It’s time for an upgrade. I’ll wait for the new iPads to drop to a decision. I might even go the Apple Store to play with a iPad
I just ordered the 11" pro, that will be nice for traveling and tablet type stuff, and I'm probably picking up a teleprompter kit for it. It has lidar for 3d scanning etc, which is useful and of course having a pen. My pc will still by my main device.
I've been debating whether or not to invest in the new iPad Pro M3 12.9" tablet to do digital illustration. I was wondering if I could also use it as a laptop replacement. It looks like I will only be able to use it to do artwork and watch videos. Of course I can always use it as a digital planner too. Thanks for your review!
Yeah they might give you it. but they make sure you have to pay subscription. and make you update to iOS 17 which if you're into making music. there are too many problems with iOS 17
I can’t even do the simplest task of photo archiving on my iPad Pro 6th gen. Very slow, too many commands, small viewing thumbnails in FILES. That’s the only gripe I have about my device. Should I switch?
in summer got myself the 13 inch m2 MBA but now im thinking of selling it when the new IPad pros come out and trying out them as a full laptop replacement
Depends on how heavy your workload is. If you need something for more serious real work, stick with Macs/macbooks. I’ve been using an iPad Pro M1 exclusively for years, and it does everything I need it to flawlessly. I use it for artwork, and edit my RUclips videos in davinci resolve. I’m very much looking forward to the redesigned iPad pros coming this year.
The Magic Keyboard is the biggest scam. $350 for a piece of plastic / paper. Unbelievable. I bought it and regretted it and sold it, now I just own the iPad Pro M1 12.9 with the Apple Pencil and that’s it, no keyboard, it’s just a tablet and that’s all it will be . I would consider it a computer but just a non-traditional one
How can we check if the iPod is original and not stolen? I found a very affordable iPad in the ads, but I'm afraid that after a few months they won't lock it (everything works now), and maybe it's a copy? The price is much cheaper, the seller has good ratings.
I love the video and subscribed! I’m a 3D artist and the iPad Pro is like a Swiss Army knife for me. I mean the other day I was 3D sculpting like I was drawing in a sketchbook enjoying a coffee at Starbucks! That’s amazing. Not saying I couldn’t sculpt with a MacBook Pro but it isn’t the same as holding the screen. iPad OS has potential to be better than Mac OS. Due to its ability to adapt and evolve. MacOS is kinda just stuck with the same old desktop setup that people will burn down apple if they tried to drastically change it. The future is definitely a computer that you can shape it to whatever you need at the time. Much like the IPad is heading towards.
Does the iPad Pro makes sense for a productive/business environment that’s does not involve video editing or drawing? I’m in the accounting business and I’m looking for something lightweight that I can pop up and do small work on respond emails and etc I also have a Mac air but M1
Seems like in terms of performance and form factor the more apt comparison would have been against the 13 inch Macbook Air. I'd like to see that comparison, although I suspect the value proposition of the iPad Pro would fare even worse against the Macbook Air, so maybe not worth it.
Considering that I don’t mind buying the extra things to enhance the usability of the iPad and they have dongles that can be used to give it extra ports on top of using iCloud and an external drive for saving everything. I think it’s worth the extra money. It also is more portable. Has the pencil and back camera which I like. I also don’t do any kind of crazy hard ultra detailed work. I use it for writing, streaming and gaming apps. It works for me and my minimalist ways. Everything dongles n all can fit into my backpack and I’m ready for whatever. Minimizing life and things to bare minimum so this was an awesome video. Will like and subscribe ❤
The big thing that is keeping me from choosing an iPad is that I need a relational database program for my business and currently I don't know of any suitable database apps for iPad. I use to to use Microsoft Access, but even that app is only available for Windows. I have been using LibreOffice Base on my M1 Mac Mini. It is a good database, but has a learning curve to use. To use Access, I would have to install Windows on my Mac. Unfortunately, Parallells Desktop iwith Windows is crippled on the new Apple Silicon Macs. I am actually feeling a little torn about what computer or iPad to get. I am choosing between Mac, Windows, or iPad. I love the speed of the M3 MacBook Pro, but iPad is better for reading ebooks.
I had the older iPad Pro 12.9" for a long time. I replaced it with an M2 Air ... (I have an MBP for my home desktop / work setup). The M2 Air also runs iOS apps, it's light, came with a keyboard, and is cheaper. For drawing I use my Galaxy S23 Ultra with it's s-pen, so I'm not losing out.
I rather go with the Ipad Pro over their laptops since it's much more versible and fun. You have the Apple Pen plus you can get the keyboard. I'm also not too worried about being able to open up multiple screens like you can on the Air or Pro laptops. There's also much more games on the ipad especially coming for the ipad pro with the new m3 chip because Apple striked up a deal for console game developers. I got the mackbook air in midnight blue last year on sale for $947 but I wish I would've went with the Ipad Pro. It's more exciting and fun to go with and more flexible and versatile like you and I said.
Biggest pro to the iPad is cellular. But they need to make the iPads have better battery life and better file storage. No matter how great my WiFi or cellular is, it takes forever for my files to load for me to upload them somewhere. The images to the files are always delayed and I never know which file I am choosing. Very annoying.
09:35 None of these displays are the best in laptop and tablet industry. Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra's Dynamic Amoled 2x 120Hz display is excellent and Asus Zenbook Oled, Lenova Yoga 9i Oled, Dell XPS 15 Oled displays are comparably better displays. I appriciate long battery hours, M3 max powerful and efficient SOC, space black color. Unfortunately still there is no convertible, oled, 120hz, touchscreen, +1600 nit SDR bright macbook available. These products does not deserve premium price. If Apple is a must for me I'll wait for M3 Macbook Air with 16gb ram. Buy both new M3 Macbook Air + 11th gen Standart Ipad without accesories.
They may not be the absolute “best” possible screens you can get, but they’re up there. Also the next iPads are supposed to be coming with stacked oled displays that can get brighter than most oled displays. Sounds like they’re going to be pretty sweet.
When I bought my 2011 17" MacBook Pro laptop it was $2200. Now I can get one for around $1600.... Better and Faster... BTW... I still use my 2011... but I can't update it.... SAD.
The single most important question in the electronics world that everyone missed, where did Hideo Kojima go after WWDC? The future is right there in front of us, scattered across many articles and leaks and no one noticed, hidden in plain sight.
Thank you so much for this review. I’ve been struggling between the 2, as I’m both the photographer and the artist. I needed the edits and drawing extras. But I’m also a writer and some business too. This helped clarify what my limitations could be on both. Ug if only Mac had the pen capability. My decision would be simple. 😊
The best thing about my iPad Pro is it was such a PIA it got me to go buy a MacBook Air M2 (MBA M2) to replace it. Where the iPad I barely used it for the things I bought it for I've ended up using the MBA M2 way more that I thought I would. I actually found the iPad more of a hassle to use in that you have to use one hand to hold it or pay for the Magic Keyboard or some other stand to hold it up. The Logic and Final Cut app sounded like a good idea to some, but seems like most the people who tried them switched back to using MacBook versions. The since USB C port is another pain especially if doing music or other things that need a port. So now you have some hub a bunch cables hanging off the iPad. Then apps like Logic and Final Cut need lots of screen real estate so really need an external monitor. The iPad is good for students or people who got to meetings a lot and need to take notes, the pencil makes it great for that, but past that it's not a computer replacement. The biggest thing wrong to me about iPad was iPadOS its a toy of an operating system and to me very non-intutiving to use. So people if you want a electronic notepad get an iPad if you want to do real work buy a MacBook Air M2 basically the same size so just as portable buy way more powerful.
It depends, my case as a mexican citizen the Apple Apps of the Mexican store can't be in the same legal system as the apps of the US Stor and therefore we are not in the same settings
I want a large iPad with LESS FEATURES!! DON’T need 10,000 cameras on my iPad! I use it for my RUclips and Streaming device. Can they just make an iPad with a good big display and nice speakers! Like an iPad Max or iPad Plus!
it sounds like they will be bringing out an iPad Air 12.9 inch and 10.9 inch in March with a M2 or M3 chip (so the rumors say). i think that would be a great device
The direction Apple has gone in with the higher end iPads is rather perplexing - on the one hand, it’s clearly intended as one device in your collection of Apple products. There are many things you can’t do with just an iPad even in terms of basic Apple things such as synching. And while you can use a mouse with it, the interface isn’t great. Also, you can’t do any real programming that requires the terminal. On the other hand, it’s priced as if it is some sort of laptop replacement.
The problem isn't the iPad, it's the OS. MacOS on an iPad Pro is the only thing that will make true use of its power. You'll need to have super specific and niche needs to be able to replace a laptop with an iPad. I'm happy with my M1 iPad Pro, but I do feel like it will never be used to its full potential until we get MacOS on it.
1 big difference. If you spill a few drops of water on your keyboard, you will almost always end up with $800 in damage or worse on a MacBook. Not with an iPad because the hardware and software are behind the screen.
I love love love my iPad, particularly for travel, but, damn it, the software on it, even Apple’s (e.g., Photos…e.g. white balance) is frustratingly behind what’s on the Mac. If that difference ever become negligible, I can definitely see a day where the iPad is my primary device. Then again, I’m not sure that’s what Apple has in mind...
The iPad being more expensive is really not that shocking. The iPad has more versatility and functionality. It also depends on who is using it and what for to determine what is more valuable.
Powerful OS vs extremely limited OS. Powerful, fully-featured apps vs at least somewhat limited (and often extremely limited) mobile apps. Unless you can only afford one device and your use cases are heavily biased toward needing a touchscreen and the versatility of a tablet, I cannot see how the iPad competes with the MacBook. Some people (esp RUclipsrs) prefer using the iPad for everything, but I use a desktop computer and an iPad Air and Mini all three and mostly for exclusive tasks; the exception is that I use one or the other iPad for a lot of internet stuff that I also do on my desktop, but other than being stuck in my office chair at my workstation, the desktop is superior at pretty much everything (I have a 24" 4K screen, so same amazing crisp text and graphics as the iPads. I used an M1 MacBook Air for a year when it first came out, but the laptop form factor just does not work for me. If I need portability I use one or the other of my iPads and an external keyboard (the stand/cover/keyboard/trackpad combos throw me right back into laptop form factor). I guess I am old school, but I also prefer discrete components rather than everything built in, and that was just emphasized with my MacBook Air: the keyboard failed and had to be replaced. I did not have to pay out of pocket because AppleCare covered it, but the repair cost half the price of the computer. The next one would have been out of pocket, so, nope. I traded it in for the iPad Air. Although altogether more size and weight, I use a separate keyboard I love, and if it breaks I am only out $100. Already it has lasted far longer than the keyboard on the MacBook. So for me, I cannot ever see an iPad becoming my main device, much less my exclusive device. All props to those who can, but I think as this video shows they are spending a lot more to get something overall far less capable than a MacBook.
might be you have to look it up in the dictionary. "Versatility" the quality of being versatile (= able to change easily or to be used for different purposes). iPad can only do one thing, drawing.
But iPad has a rear camera and a touch display, ability to,use as a tablet and desktop, support for pencil. But I’d only use macOS on iPad if it was docked…
I bought the 12.9 Pro with the M1 back then (the expensive 1TB version) - did use it only for browsing because of the lack of pro-apps - so soon after I bought the Macbook Air M1 (27 months ago) - that worked well for me (bought Final Cut Pro etc for it) - now after 26 months the screen of the macbook show defects (vertical lines) which is very annoying (not useable anymore) - repair will cost over 600 euros - which I do not want to invest in Apple anymore (after 30 year of Windows laptopusage without any screendefects). Final Cut Pro is available for the iPad Pro but I have to pay again for it (WTF). At the moment I miss Photo AI Denoise on the iPad (Lightroom) the most, or DXO Pure Raw which also is only available for Mac OS/Windows. I am done with Apple!!!
I dont trust the face ID : my phone activated IN my Pocket, and dialed a contact.... ? does the inside of my pocket look like my face? or the other way....
Greg, this is awful, I love them both, I love my M1 iPad 12.9” Face ID, and good built in cameras with follow me feature, love that, for some reason not on the MacBooks! there is no point in the M2 for me as the M1 has never ever slowed me down in any way and I love the MacBook Pro M3, which I haven’t bought just yet, can’t make my mind up! I really like the iPad OS and I absolutely love MacOS, I’ve used it all the way back to finder and multi-finder where the OS could actually run more than one app at a time, Back in 1989 on my SE 2/20, 2 gig of ram and 20gig internal, 9” black and white screen, not even grey scale, yes internal hard disk, futuristic or what!. Apple are messing with me, this year more than any other year I can remember they have made choices so difficult for me. I think the iPad screen is the best display I’ve ever owned, I’m not sure I can downgrade the screen to an Air so I have to go Pro right? P.s, speed isn’t everything, you have to drink coffee some time, right? Ok, got it, I’m getting both, just have to talk to the bank manager again.
iPad unfortunately is a neutered version of macOS, it really only works for casual and light work like typing into document, creating presentations, sending emails etc. once you venture out of those tasks and need to do something else like opening text editors, and running docker containers, then the iPad is no longer usable for those usecases 😢
thats because you’re still an old-school software engineer 😂 its 2023 and people like you are still setting things up in your local machine and not a remote server elsewhere? 😅
The iPad Pro needs better software, like a windows type file management system, which the Mac Pro also needs. Photoshop sucks on ipad, too many limitations.
Although MacBook is better bang for the buck than iPad Pro. iPad has greater potential than MacBook. N buy a product because there is a chance it gets better in the next rumored software update because those rumors may never be true.
Just get an office lab keyboard. Best iPad keyboard/case. Way better than the Magic Keyboard since it has function keys and 1 month battery life that’s separate from the iPad since it’s Bluetooth. Way better and it’s $100

I sold my
Magic Keyboard as soon as I bought my Mac. Now my iPad can be just an iPad again ha
How many Safari or Google Chrome tabs you can open on the iPad Pro before it freezes?

Appreciate the thorough breakdown! I have to choose one and this is making my decision that much easier!
I saw somewhere that someone said the iPad is what you use to watch content and write notes, the Mac (or pc) is what you use to design the iPad and I couldn’t agree more. The iPad is a great portable experience for playing videos, music, podcasts, note taking etc., but if you are doing actual work like 3D modeling, video editing, coding etc. then you’ll want a Mac over an iPad all day
Im definitely thinking of getting a MacBook Pro, and leaning towards the Space Bllack
To be honest there nothing wrong with the iPad I got an m1 iPad and I can make music, edit videos, send files to my 3D printer, design merchandise, logos, edit photos, build websites and watch movies. In multi windows. And I can also airplay to my projector with ease plus I have 5g internet a track pad when I want it and pencil for them
Moments I may need it. Who ever need more tripping. That case that was an ad would be a nice add when I stream playing video games. 😂 now if I had the speed of the m3 and some new features wouldn’t hurt
Cheers Greg - been trying to decide between these two. Need the versatility but also the power for video/photo editing. Much appreciated!
MacBook M3 or the IPad Pro for college? Thoughts?
Thanks Greg, you do a great job with your reviews!
You can turn off centerstage in the Control Center
Yeah they might give you it. but they make sure you have to pay subscription. and make you update to iOS 17 which if you're into making music. there are too many problems with iOS 17
I can’t even do the simplest task of photo archiving on my iPad Pro 6th gen. Very slow, too many commands, small viewing thumbnails in FILES. That’s the only gripe I have about my device. Should I switch?
Where is the iPadPro 2024 updates?!
do all the magnets interfere with internet speed? processing?
I have the M2 iPad Pro for when I am away from my desk and a Mac Studio for at my desk (programming).
in summer got myself the 13 inch m2 MBA but now im thinking of selling it when the new IPad pros come out and trying out them as a full laptop replacement
Great explanation ✅💥thanks amigo
The Magic Keyboard is the biggest scam. $350 for a piece of plastic / paper. Unbelievable. I bought it and regretted it and sold it, now I just own the iPad Pro M1 12.9 with the Apple Pencil and that’s it, no keyboard, it’s just a tablet and that’s all it will be . I would consider it a computer but just a non-traditional one
The iPad Pro needs Xcode for starters, i agree with audio, it even goes strange with a Bluetooth speaker and the Apple Pencil at times lol
Should I get an iPad or a Mac book? Or both?
How can we check if the iPod is original and not stolen?
I found a very affordable iPad in the ads, but I'm afraid that after a few months they won't lock it (everything works now), and maybe it's a copy? The price is much cheaper, the seller has good ratings.
Sorry i didn't get the finalcut clip export times for the two devices , could you please clarify how much it took for each to export it ?
Excellent review Greg. You really helped me understand and make a decision.
Im considering buying an ipad just for sculpting 😂
Have been using MBA m2 for 2 years
Does the iPad Pro makes sense for a productive/business environment that’s does not involve video editing or drawing? I’m in the accounting business and I’m looking for something lightweight that I can pop up and do small work on respond emails and etc I also have a Mac air but M1
Hell no. You can’t even do basic Excel tasks on the iPad. It’s only really good for basic word processing and reading files.
From your explanation both ipad pro and mac are for content creators and digital artists
I only use my iPad in landscape mode . I will not rotate it for any pop up ad and will delete any program that would go to landscape!
16” MBPro will be mostly my desktop. Later will get iPad Pro for portability
It's more exciting and fun to go with and more flexible and versatile like you and I said.
chrome extensions do not work with IPAD pro, I felt I wasted my money!
You’ve peaked my curiously. What’s hidden in plain sight?
Thank you so much for this review. I’ve been struggling between the 2, as I’m both the photographer and the artist. I needed the edits and drawing extras. But I’m also a writer and some business too. This helped clarify what my limitations could be on both. Ug if only Mac had the pen capability. My decision would be simple. 😊
You need the Samsung ultra
Hey Greg, amazing review as usual!
One question. Where can I get that shirt? It’s cool!
@@Jimmyfly215 they did
It’s almost a joke that the front facing facetime camera on iPad Pro maxes out at 720p. You would think it would be full hd for video calls.
Which one will be better for crypto airdrop task?
All props to those who can, but I think as this video shows they are spending a lot more to get something overall far less capable than a MacBook.
both
might be you have to look it up in the dictionary. "Versatility" the quality of being versatile (= able to change easily or to be used for different purposes). iPad can only do one thing, drawing.
now one with the new 2024... with the M4 chip.
Great video
What a great video I am going for the ipad
Sorry but a 13 inch M2 Air is a much more apples to apples (pun intended) comparison than a M3 MBP….
Nice voice sir keet it up more.
I dont trust the face ID : my phone activated IN my Pocket, and dialed a contact.... ? does the inside of my pocket look like my face? or the other way....
I use my iPad Pro so much some times I accidentally start touching my MacBook screen. lol terrible muscle memory! Great video!
There is no streaming services on the MacBook
But iPad Pro can use Verizon chip
If you're only gonna have one device go Mac. Since I have a powerful gaming PC, I am going 12.9 iPad Pro with the keyboard
iPad unfortunately is a neutered version of macOS, it really only works for casual and light work like typing into document, creating presentations, sending emails etc. once you venture out of those tasks and need to do something else like opening text editors, and running docker containers, then the iPad is no longer usable for those usecases 😢
thats because you’re still an old-school software engineer 😂 its 2023 and people like you are still setting things up in your local machine and not a remote server elsewhere? 😅
Just get both
What's the cheapest device to buy to edit high quality videos? Asking for a friend that's going to buy it lol
The iPad Pro needs better software, like a windows type file management system, which the Mac Pro also needs. Photoshop sucks on ipad, too many limitations.
Why compare the I pad Pro to the MacBook Pro? The obvious comparison is with the MacBook Air. Then the comparison is even worse.w
Nice video
I think the Macbook pro should have the light up logo..
Although MacBook is better bang for the buck than iPad Pro. iPad has greater potential than MacBook.
N buy a product because there is a chance it gets better in the next rumored software update because those rumors may never be true.
Use the pencil as a mouse. Easy.
Just get an office lab keyboard. Best iPad keyboard/case. Way better than the Magic Keyboard since it has function keys and 1 month battery life that’s separate from the iPad since it’s Bluetooth. Way better and it’s $100
Get a 15" macbook air and it will be like an ipad with bigger screen and already comes with the keyboard
