- My latest 3D Printed project is this GIANT LEGO Go-Kart large enough for me to ride! In this video I find out how fast this Mark I version of the kart will go! Unfortunately it was a VERY windy day when I filmed this so much of the camera chat footage was unusable.. but we got the fun stuff! :D (I still think I can get it FASTER!!)

Your channel is actually one of the reasons why I never ever watch TV anymore.
Nice and fun content with basically the same quality!
No, in fact, BETTER quality!
Keep up the good stuff!
Oh thank you 👍 appreciate it. Pls share 👍😁
Agree. I haven't watched TV in ages, and I prefer RUclips because the content on here is great and you can choose what you want to watch when you want to watch it. And what I do appreciate is real content creators who's doing their own unique thing, and that's what Matt is doing here, so it's all perfect, and waiting for a new vid or episode actually makes it exciting when you're waiting for something new, you just don't know when, and when it arrives you feel like a kid again 😋😁
Oh thanks 🙏
- 2020 Matt: Today I'm gonna be flaying one of this.. I wish...
- 2022 Matt: Hi! Today I finaly build the first functional 1:1 scale lego helicopter!!
Hahah, why not?
😆🤔
Matt Denton hey my uncle is an afterburner engineer so one cool enough to work with Lego could be possible!
People like Peter Sripol and Colin Furze have built multirotors big enough to carry humans - perhaps a collab is in order with Matt adding LEGO styling to something which flies :)
I'm getting major Colin Furze vibes off this video. It's brilliant!
Thanks. I think 😆
We have met before on a couple of occasions 👍
@@deanmcmullen5982 The problem is Furze would try to get a pulse jet engine involved somehow.
And I would LOVE to see that.
Been waiting ages for this, he knows how to get folk hooked :)
When you split the axle, you could add a sensor to measure the steering angle and do torque vectoring with the two motor drive. This would increase the agility and you could realize an adjustable software limited slip differential. 🤔😎
Yes indeed!!! Already planning it if the diff doesn't work naturally
"I'm building this for my nephew" - with a suspiciously Matt sized seat and no sign of said nephew in sight
😁
😬 I feel it need proper testing first ... Ahem ...
@@MattDenton Yes to make it sure it goes fast enough your nephew won't be allowed on it.....Being a light and little bugger he might just find the current torque adequate even with the 16t and get up above 30 why not bump up the ratios a bit more aiming for 40, I'm sure the test pilot will love it (though his parents might not be so keen). Glad to see the rubber tyre on the steeringwheel didn't get in the way of your legs too much, seems like it would be rather uncomfortable to use without.
Hope that wish comes true 30 ain't bad for a lego go-cart
Yep, called it. About the same performance as a typical 4-6hp flathead Briggs kart. And that ain't too bad at all considering it's 3D printed, enlarged lego parts.
I was a Lynx technicial for 20 years. Fantastic helicopter.
Oooh cool! I flew the lynx sim at middle wallop 👌👍
Nice video. Glad nothing exploded or came apart at speed. Mahalo for sharing!:)
Yeah me too 😆
XXL LEGO and nice aviation stuff in one video, can it get any better? Go cart!
I know! I really wanted to spend more time looking at the harrier 😁
Thats one of the coolest things I've ever seen! And nice to see the whole process behind it, damn awesome 😄
Thanks 👍 pls share 👍😁
holy kevin im a biggggg fan
i made 2 of your gunns its soooo awsom
That’s awesome Matt, in my world you are the Lego 3D printing engineering man.
Thanks for sharing
👍👍👍😎😎😎 Cary
Thank you 👍
Hi new subscriber your LEGO got kart is awesome love it 👍🏻
Thank you 👍
You would have to redesign the entire steering geometry for any improvement. LEGO Technic steering geometry has always been appalling.
Indeed. But the biggest issue right now is that all the weight is over the rear axle that has no diff so the car simply wants to do straight lines. Once I split the axle then it's going to be as good as it can be with parallel steering 😆
While true, it's also fit for intended purpose. They're children's toys, after all. Don't need true ackermann steering in a building toy meant for a 9 year old.
I was really looking forward to this video and you certainly did not disappoint. Both awsome, interesting and educational. Wow really good production quality, looked like a segment the BBC would put together. Keep up the good work Matt👍.
Thanks. Appreciate the feedback 👍🙏
Such fun. Hope the improvements help
Thanks 👍
How are you gonna fly a helicopter with no blades?
3D print them 😬😆
@@MattDenton word for word said this before I saw the reply haha 😅
I have a two stroke engine on my go kart. It goes about 45 miles per hour on the power ban.
I think it might be a little too late, but it would be cool if you could 3D print a life sized version of the Lego ghost minifigure to use as a halloween decoration.
The thumbnail is exactly what I got. We need more of this
You should take one of the Lego Technic cars and make them real, imagine driving around with a homemade lego Lamborghini in the neighbourhood
Funny you should mention Lamborghini. I'd love that! 😱💙😜 But yes, that would be amazing!
Matt, the perpendicular steering geometry enforced by the Lego is the cause of the problems. You have no trail, no caster angle, no kingpin angle and a huge offset. Splitting the axle might help but I don't think it will totally solve it.
Yes I realise the parallel steering is awfull. I do me room this in an early video but the axle with all my weight over it is not allowing the tyres to turn when any power is on. Basically poker weight distribution doesn't help. Once the axle is split then I can see just how bad the steering setup is 🤞😆
so cool to see that they willing to help you.
Yeah they were very helpful.
Lego could sold this... It's very beautiful...
Thanks
Great job Matt
Thanks 👍
This looked like so much fun man, time to reinforce that steering rack (need to be held down after the rack and infront of it to stop slop and movement) :)
Yeah I'll break out the glue and screws 😆
Matt Denton I actually meant some support posts to stop your steering column from shifting around side to side and up n’ down so much.
It’s going to be hard to make that XXL Tiny cart rigid, but I’m sure you can do it!
I used to have LEGO Go-Kart 854/948, the blue one with the piston on the back. Would love you to do a big version of it! 🤘😀🤘
Yeah I remember that one 👍
In the back of the the engineer's mind, who got to make the part ,was like "Oh god do I have too."
I didn't know that you were from down South near HMS Sultan Matt! I'm currently studying my engineering course at HMS Collingwood, which is only a short drive away from HMS Sultan. :)
Yup... Down south 👍
Steering issues.. the Lego pieces will be designed for 0 toe in and 0 camber. This will be making a big contribution to the steering issues. You need to engineer some toe in on the top wishbone and rack to aid maneouverability. Good luck... looks a lot of fun!
Yeah that's not going to happen 😂... A split axle is as far as I can go 👍
@@MattDenton we used to use axle pieces for the wishbones before Lego came up with premade pieces... I will see if I can remember how we did it.
That parade ground looks like it’s very flat. Must have been a smooth ride.
Keep those videos coming!
😀🇩🇰
Yeah it needed to be 😁 you can see me got a bump and the whole car flexes 😲
now we make one for mario kart and have a actual sensor for item pickups and getting hit
Absolutely amazing 👍
Thanks you 👍
So in theory you could 3D print a mobility scooter ? Might be worth looking into once you're happy with the go-karts reliability.
I guess you could 👍
Lol, the music montage reminds me of a Colin Furze video.
Well, this is just nuts! Nice job!! Doing a pretty similar build myself, except, not Lego. Great to see the motor and batteries will do the job nicely, haven't done any speed trials yet! I'm using 16T to 66T gearing.
Thanks. Yeah cold do with a little more torque but still good fun 👍
Matt, for my eKart, I went with a tractor differential shaft. It diff box in the middle has the mounts for a sprocket/pulley. Turns on a dime at 2kW
Thats cool. I'll take a look
Cool
well, i was way off with how fast it would go. like WAY off. i thought since you were so awesome, you would be able to go pretty fast. oh well, 30 is still very fast. keep up the good work, stay safe, and have fun
😆... Mark I 😬
Love that you went for the solution I suggested about splitting the rear axel. I'm looking forward to see how turning is impacted, but I wonder if you will have to make software changes in order to differentiate engine speeds to accommodate outer vs inner circle distance differences during tight turns.(plz excuse my insanely poor vocabulary)
Yeah, loving it!
More Lego :D
Thanks 👍
Finally
So cool
You could build the technic set 42110 in big... very big
Could you put the 16 tooth on (as I think you have now) then electronically gear it? That would then allow you to drop a load of current in with a lower voltage to get the torque at the start, then once the speed tops out (very quickly, I'd imagine) you change to a higher voltage lower current giving you the speed? It's all about balancing the power. I'd imagine that you already know this and I'm preaching to the choir.
Love the video, by the way. I've been checking your page almost daily waiting for the post.
Well it uses the VESC 6 controller in current control mode so that is kind of what happens. Thanks for the feedback.. appreciate it 👍
*LEGO racers theme intenseifies*
Mm I know that it's a replica of a lego set.. but.. with my lego spirit.. You can put the tractor wells instead of the actuals wells? Haha
Curiosity.. And for the science... haha
Haha that would be huge 😂
The gocart would be a lot more stable at speed if you could figure out how to add some caster angle to the front steering spindles, right now it is relying only on your arm strength to keep the cart straight and the slop in the gears is making it twitchy, some positive caster will make it go straight naturally. It may be cheating against the lego design but it will be safer.
Indeed.. but tricky to keep it Lego and add the caster angle 👍
YEY IT CAME OUT
Congrats, almost at 60k subscribers 👍
Awesome!
Thank you 👍
Hi Matt, I'd love to see the MOC *Liebherr LTM11200* by Jeroen Ottens using giant pieces ;)
😆 yeah so would I... Give me enough time and money 😬
Absolutely awesome! I’m so going to beat your speed :D
Cool 👍 I've got more in the tank 😁
Have you considered upgrading motor and controler? I don’t recall the current setup, but it would be cool to see it with even more power 😁
Yeah maybe later... I have some new motors to try but not sure they will be may different
That was pretty cool. I'm interested in seeing how your new part is going to work, a kind of simple diff?
Also, I distinctly remember this project being for a nephew.....haven't seen nephew driving it yet ;)
Erm yes... I know... He will 😬 .. eventually 😆
Nice
Cooool, it's great to see the speed. Did you let the R Navy lads and lass's have a go? 👍
No not yet. My nephew is going to fly in it though!! 😆
@@MattDenton I'm guessing a non-negotiable speed limit would be on the cards 😁
you should get Colin Furze to put a jet engine on this thing
Or if could do one myself.....🤔
@@MattDenton what could possibly go wrong
Exactly 🤷🏻♂️
This hasn’t been picked up by the algorithm much :(
Yes, agree. Just saw the post from 2 days ago and went like "is there a video out!?" and then realizing the video is a week old already! 😱😳 I noticed a couple of content creators complaining about it recently again. It's a RUclips thing I guess...
Interesting.. 🤔 I definitely have some videos that get "pushed" by RUclips for no apparent reason!
@@MattDenton RUclips sometimes feels broken 🤷♂️ guess we'll have to see how it plays out over time though. Just hope it's nothing too serious in the long run for content creators such as yourself
Question... What do you recon the mileage would be on a full charge? Cuz at 30 miles it would be the perfect solution to local driving, just add lights and make it road legal lol, that way I (for one) could stick to the speed limit and save money (on fuel and speeding tickets 😋🤣) and still get to my destination and back without a problem. Really enjoying this build, and can't wait to see what you've got planned for the future 😎
Well... I should have taken note of the battery consumption... But it was doing pretty well. I think after the speed trials I had only used about 10% battery.
@@MattDenton not bad! Thank you 💪
Its nice when you have lot of money. I can't even afford 3D printer.
It helps having a sponsor ... It took me a few years to get to that 😔
Great work Matt. I'm guessing the 2 thumbs down are Mr and Mrs Lego.
Thanks. You always get some thumbs down. 🤷🏻♂️
Yooo you genius bro😆😆😆
Thanks
Can I possibly add subtitles to your videos?
I want to share your amazing creations with my Japanese community😊😊😊
So when is the Matt Denton/Collin Furze colaboration going to happen?
You'll have to ask Collin 😂
@@MattDenton If it happens and he suggests a pulse jet, don't hold him back. Lego Pulsejet Kart would be amazing! And I get the feeling Furze could engineer it such that it didn't melt the kart...
Next try... 88 mph. ;)
But great scott... where should we get 1.21 GW from? :D haha
😆
You should email torqueboards and ask to buy two TB6.64 vescs!!! They do 110 motor A
Well I could push more AAA into the motors I have. The VESC I have is capable of more!!
Hi Matt! will you make the XXL plans for this one available?
Hi. Maybe one day yes
Looks like a pocket rocket go cart
Do you have anything to measure your steering angle? If you do is there any way you could slow down the wheel on the inside of a turn, or increase the speed of the wheel on the outside of the turn? With two independent rear motors you could have them help with your cornering.
Yes. But I need to split that axle first ... Then I could try the electronic differential
Is that nephew ever going to test it ??
Yeah... 😬.... But it's too much fun😆. But seriously yes once it can steer properly and maybe I'll turn the power down a bit 👍
On the previous vid you changed the power level of the batteries to get more speed. Is that something you tried here?
I think I left it at full power. However after the event I suddenly thought I may have turned it down a bit. It would be effect the full speed on 14tooth pulley but maybe 16tooth.... Mark II 👍
What if you can make a lego XXL Train.
I get many requests for a train.. I'm just not much of a train guy...
Buffetting... BUFFETTING...
If he where to drive that in a 20 mph school zone would he get pulled over?
Yes 😆
Build 2 & race them...
Would be fun 👍
Make a fool sized one
Are you thinking about to sell the stls ? And what is the minimum bed dimension to print them?
Not sure yet. My bed is about 280mm sq
So Matt I hail from the area that's near to Sultan are you based around here too?
I grew up in Fareham. Still in Hampshire just further north now
@@MattDenton awesome! Have you displayed your Lego go-kart anywhere?
No but I do want to do a giant Lego exhibition some day
What 3d printer did you use for this large of parts?
Lulzbot taz6
Bro imagine Stephen Hawking riding that thing😂
combine with: stud launcher
🤔👍
Pog
@Mike UK do you not know what pog means
I can think of two meaning...
@@MattDenton you can, I'm curious tell me
Do you have a place where I can download the blueprint for the go-kart?
Only the 5 X scale I'm afraid. Link in description 👍
@@MattDenton okay thank you
Have the 3D files been pulled?
Only the 5x scale kart is available on my threeding account. Link in description
Ah. Not available on the mobile version of the website 👍
Hello. I want to build the kart. where can i buy the complete project?
I think you should make a adult sice lego gocart and start selling them for the people kid sice to
Hi
STL ?
More
Just start a business now and sell giant lego kits.... let me know when your e-store is up :)
👍😆
The engineer sorting out this problem?
Did someone else do the whole work for you?
No he's turning the metal part for me as I don't have a lathe big enough!
Hey Matt! Not to be rude but could you at least reply to my comment? Thanks ( the one from the storage rack mate!)
I try to reply to all my comments... But quite often I miss notifications. I'll have a look.
Matt Denton ok mate
I think I have a new RUclipser
Thank you 👍
I want bye it
I like my chips really crispy
Me too 🤷🏻♂️
As an american I love when former imperial countries, use imperial units.
As a person from a normal country, your comment disgusts me
Google's what normal country is that? Sounds like things trigger you, quite easily.
@@adamcartermi5 Normal as in pretty much every country that uses a totally non-arbitrary measurement system. Really, imperial system is like a ball and chain in the measurement system universalization effort.
Vinícius Negrão not really., imperial seems to be easier to conceptualize to the lay person. . There is a reason similar units to the foot were invented and used all across the world (Japanese shaku, Chinese Chi, Vietnamese xich, greek pous and kondylos, various cubits, mesopotamian 'feet', etc.) - its great for thinking about buildings. For instance building with lumber usually houses seem to be easier for people to build in imperial, Canada still does, and I am pretty sure the UK still does. Commercial buildings may be different. I know Imperial is easier for carpenters conceptually.
Even temperature, sure celsius is nice when freezing is zero and 100 is boiling. But Fahrenheit is actually more precise scale than Celsius, meaning the differences in temperature between each degree is smaller.....So you can be more accurate.
Also metric system is also arbitrary, you may argue less arbitrary, but it still based off an inaccurate measurement of the earth. The fact that imperial doesn’t break down in to units of 10, doesn’t make it any less useful.
My original comment was not to state that imperial was better or worse. But that despite complete conversions from imperial to metric by other countries, they always come back to imperial, because at the end of the day sometimes it is just more practical, for instance in construction and sometimes speed.
@@adamcartermi5 pretty much every other country on earth
Why did RUclips take 1 week to recommend me this? Shame! Do you got a backup bitchute channel jet? Or Telegram to announce your Videos? 🤓👍
I'll try telegram 👍
...
Please translate your weird measurement system to the normal one for the people ouside of the English World who are watching.
Do explain!
@@MattDenton Sorry if my comment did not sound nice. I think your video's are superb! I mean metric units like km/h instead of miles/hour.
In the UK we use MPH for speed and metric for everything else 😂💁
