Hi guuuys!!! Hope you don't mind another laid back video while I continue to be stressed about finishing up these cosplays for tomorrroOWWW HAHAA I'm FINE.
I know you said this three years ago but credit where credit is due - this is GOLD.🤣 I shall store it away to hopefully use myself one day soon. Awesome, thank you.
I won't dare to admit that I have remnants of my hair in my bathroom cupboard, trying to collect enough for this kind of hairdo. Your way is both quicker, way less creepy and easier to explain if someone looks inside the cupboard
Yess coming through with the content! Also don't apologize for ''weird'' videos..vintage is inherently weird sometimes (in fact life is inherently weird sometimes)
@@Bluebelle51 dang I love how you replied to this even though your own comment was 4 years old. hope your vintage journey has brought you heaps of joy in the meantime!
@@azrani2023 I just started trying to hand sew my first corset! (Complete with detail embroidery) It's the last step to fully becoming the Edwardian Hobbit librarian I've always wanted to be
Living in S Florida, I would be smothered in long hair and adore my pixie 🧚♀️. I do appreciate all my long haired beauties. You ladies can rock it for me. Lol
It might be easier if you just got straight up tights (you could also find red ones to match your hair) to do it so it won't be to short on material. And then you could do a bigger circle and maybe pin it lower on your head as you wanted. But it already looks gorgeous! And I think the full of dry shampoo texture adds to the edwardian vibe. I dress modern-ish but I am tempted to try it :)
Diána Török I was thinking the same thing! Or more specifically, that you could use reject tights with holes or whatever in they’re. Two birds, one Victorian hair style!
Diana - I agree. using actual pantyhose or tights would be so much easier than knee hi's! You'd have a leg length's worth of hose to play with, and play with different lengths for different effects. This was a fun video, loved it
If you still want to use hosiery, try a single thigh high, and only fill it halfway, then twist and wrap it back on itself. The rubber edge will give a good base for pinning it down, too. Did it to make very quick Elizabethan bum roll or two.
I need to make one of these. Edwardian hair is so much easier this way. I have hair down to my butt so I can tease it into shape. However that takes way too much effort and doesn’t always turn out very good. This looks much faster and doesn’t involve completely destroying what thin bodiless hair I have
Love it! Random idea that I literally thought of while watching this, take 2-3 hair bun donuts and cut them open and sew the end together... I think it would already give you the size around that you'd need and then you just make it the length you want it and tada!
I heard that rats were originally made by matting your loose hair from your hair brush and that you'd matt it into a shape and the size you desire, plus it matches you hair colour exactly and is free! I'd still recommend stuffing the hair in pantry hose so there's zero risk of it tangling with your attached hair
I remember watching "A Room with a View" with my mother, and commenting that Helena Bonham Carter's hair looked too over the top. My mother told me that her grandmother wore hers even bigger! Don't be afraid to go big @Rachel Maksy xx
I was half hoping you'd stuff it with hair you've been collecting off your hairbrush, but I can see why you'd want packaged stuffing instead. this has inspired me to actually start my own hair rat so off I pop! I love these laid back videos, it's like you're in my living room for a spot of tea and it's marvelous.
This blouse is to die for, your outfit is so pretty. Maybe looser bangs in the front would help with the look because in some of the Gibson pictures they have all kinds of folds happening in the front and you could like tease a bit of the back for shape? Also I would be interested in seeing if you could dye the rat more of a red color with henna or tea so that you could have our hair a bit looser without worrying about it showing.
I've made one before for theater. Get thigh-high stockings to have more length to work with. Get fray check from sewing department to use just below where to cut the excess, if you want to reduce bulk. A tip on stuffing, get a standard pillow from Walmart. The cost is usually less than $3, and has the same type and amount of stuffing you'd get in the craft aisle for almost 3 times that amount.
I just, freaking love you. It’s as simple as that lol. 😂 I love your personality, I love how funny you are, I love your edits, I love your bloopers, I love how down to earth and sweet you are, I live your content, just, I love everything lol! Thank you for your videos!!
This entire video is glorious. So many laughs. Thank you, though, for teaching me this because I can promise that this is the only way my hair will ever achieve Edwardian-era volume.
I’ve been wanting a hair rat, but being the mondo cheepo that I am, I don’t want to buy one. 😂 I’ve been thinking of making one, so thanks for the inspiration, I think I’ll get on that...
@@annafantasia i shed like a dog and brush my hair 3 times a day at minimum so it never takes long for me also u can do yarn or cloth clipings and what also is good is old socks .
I LOVEEEEE these buns so much. I love them and now I need to make this for my self immediately to make them easier to achieve. I never even though of putting a rat underneath to make it puff more. It’s genius. Thanks Rachel!
This was terrific! I needed a good giggle! My teen son thought I’d lost it!! Very well done. Try using full tights, clip one leg off and fill til the right circumference. Also, you can spray strong hold hairspray lightly from 6 or so inches from the base of sections, let dry, then tease. I’ve been doing the Edwardian front pouf for years (ok, so I’m older than dirt) and have never used rats. But this was terrific!!
Maybe pull the hair of your crown through the rat and knot it. Then roll ( like a victory roll or pin curl) or arrange the hair in front and back around the rat and pin it. Then let out the crown knot and arrange it in a bun or romantic curls/loops/rolls to cover whatever it left. pull out strands, loosen etc.
Not going to lie, I really did laugh at you stuffing that... And I don't care what your 'ensemble' is lady, because you look MIGHTY FINE! Think I need to go buy myself some more waistcoats....
I wonder if thigh-highs would work... you definitely give the classic Green Gables vibe and I LOVE it!! I'd even suggest using a mesh layer on the outside for pinability without poking holes and causing runs. I don't know if I have enough hair to try this but I sure want to! Thank you so much for posting real experiences complete with challenges! 💜

Tip for doubling up knee or thigh highs: snag the tallest glass you can, tuck the second sock into it, and put the elastic around the opening. You can also drop it into the stocking to stretch it wider first. So, next time, try an over the knee ‘boot’ sock for length or a thigh high. 👍🏼

Great stuff. I made mine with full-length stockings and it turned out pretty perfectly.
Pre-con is always stressful, major points for doing a video right before the con. I need to run away to continue with my own cosplays, haha.
Good luck! ❤️
You got this!!!
A very prim friend of mine, to me, in a hoarse whisper, many moons ago: "Emily!! In mixed company, we call them *nylons!*" 😂

In the UK we call them tights.
I LOVE Edwardian inspired stuff! The world needs more lace and poofy hair.
Yes I agree 👍🏻xD
Absolutely 😍
Yes! I'm getting into Edwardian fashion after getting into 1940s/50s style :). I can't wait to get my first outfit.
I ADORE ALL THINGS WITH LACE AND *POOF*!
100%
Rachel: “Not very period accurate, but neither is having your hair consist 98% dry shampoo”

Hahaha that IS what they used to do though! So your way is definitely authentic!
My hair is down to my butt and I may or may not have a baggie trying to collect about from my brush to make one lol
Clara Zijlstra lmao I died at your comment 😂
Haha. I'm just as guilty, only it's in my bathroom drawer.
Lol yep me too!
I love the romantic lace sleeves and waistcoat btw. If it's not period authentic, it should be.
Would be awesome if that was the fashion of today, so people could look back to this time and say that it was historically accurate 🙂
