this morning i had a stupid argument with my mom about my vintage style and how she thinks i look like a drag queen and should look more "natural". i'm a 21 year old woman with my own apartment! as if i can't make my own choices... i really needed to hear that first part of the video, so thank you rachel 🙏 here's to not giving a fluff!!!
I am a guy but I just love edwardian dresses and skirts. I've made myself a nice walking skirt, and I find that it blends better into my cross-gender wardrobe when I take liberties with the fabric itself. My favourite combo is my walking skirt and a tank top under a highwaisted denim vest I have with tons of buttons. it makes me looks very tall XD
My sister and I were in target and a black late Victorian/early Edwardian top was well stocked throughout the store. We called it the war widow The war widow now lives in my closet.
Rachel, I honestly appreciate how laid back you are with historical-vitage dress. You're not gate keeping, you're just here for the aesthetic, love of history, and fun of ol' dress.
I have slowly been adding more and more renaissance into my modern fashion, and I SO love that you are doing the same with edwardian ❤❤❤ More historical influence for all!
I'm learning to not give a fluff about what people think of me. I finally went to the thrift store and found some 40s pieces that I can't wait to wear. I'm so excited to try Edwardian now too!
When you mentioned Bernadette I squealed. I don't know when I became that person but apparently, I did. A RUclips Creator that enjoy mentioned another RUclips creator that I enjoy so obviously that's worth a squeal. Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing more Edwardian inspired looks from you as Edwardian and Victorian are my jam. I do love the 40s too but like you, I love lot's of different vintage/historical styles. With me everything has an edge of the 16th-century woodsy witch as well.
Rebecca Stockwell I grinned when she mentioned her. I think RUclips recommended me just because of following her and other historical dressmaking youtubers.
The fact that they are friends makes me so happy! 🥰 I want them to adopt me!! I don’t know how I became this person either.🤦🏻♀️ Until recently, I was just the nerdy girl who watched history docs on here. Then RUclips recommended Bernadette’s channel, and now I’m a fan of a few amazing youtubers. 😅
I've been trying to find a sewing pattern for an Edwardian blouse. I think it would look great with skinny jeans to add a bit of floof and drama. I've made an Edwardian skirt (ten panels that go into a slight point at the top of the back) and wear it with a tshirt. I wore it to visit Highclere Castle and felt like a Disney princess as I swept down the stairs. No one else noticed but it felt so damn good!
If you haven’t already made one yet (or for anyone else interested), my favourites Edwardian and Late Victorian blouse patterns come from Black Snail patterns on Etsy. They have a few to choose from. Additionally, there’s also Truly Victorian and Folkwear Patterns, and they have some lovely options too.
Do you have recommendations for modern male edwardian and vintage styles? Or influencers that style that way? I love your channel, but i dont fancy lady styles on myself.

Yesss I was gonna suggest Pinsent and doberandman! Unfortunately it is definitely a bit harder to come by which is a shame because I LOVE historic men's fashion! So if anyone has any suggestions please leave them! ❤️
Hi Kyle, beside those ppl already suggested, check out these two guys on Instagram @vintagebursche from Germany, and @masu_mb from Japan. They both wear classic 1920 to 1940s men's wear.
No influencer recommendations but a style: My favorite favorite favorite era of clothing is the Teddy Boy fashion in the 1950s. London teenagers (mostly boys but there were some girls as well) would take Edwardian cloths (aka Edwardian "Teddy" Boys) and cuff the pants, add colorful socks, wear creepers (a brand of shoe that became popular I believe in WWII which then in the 1990s became popular once more) and then adorn the outfits with velvet bows or ties (and you can't forget the slicked back Elvis hair!). It's really cool because it looks modern because it's just a suit but when adorned with the accessories and hair it really just adds to the ensemble. (also The Beatles were Teddy Boys before they became famous in the 60s and turned to Modern "Mod" fashion)
Amen girl! I occasionally like to wear Steam Punk inspired clothes. And my friends always enjoy when I dress up but say things like "I could never pull something like that off" and I always tell them you won't know till you try and as long as you feel confident in what you're wearing other ppl don't really tend to care.
I remember going to the Gunne Sax outlet store back in the 80s in SF to shop for all of those pretty lace tops! Had such a good time rummaging through the bins of factory "rejects" and finding gold! I found some great stuff for super cheap, like $2-$5, and if something was wrong with it, I grew up with a seamstress grandmother that taught me sewing, so I could fix just about anything. And the "dressing room" was just one big room with no individual stalls for privacy; it was literally a portion of the factory that was reserved for us bargain shoppers. So here we all were in our under clothes trying on all of these garments in front of each other, but I didn't care, I wanted those clothes 😊😄😆 You carry this look very gracefully and elegantly, it really suits you. 😊
This may be my favorite of your videos yet! My vintage style obsession started with Downton Abbey and has evolved to more 40’s but I’ve always wanted to try more Edwardian! I love what you said about the long skirts and how it makes you feel! I feel like I could skip through a meadow! Also I love what you said about rocking your style. I always feel over dressed at mom group because everyone else is in sweats, but I love my vintage style and I love your confidence your style!! Love your channel!
I love the Eduardian throwback pictures of my ancestors! Especially my mom’s, mom’s, mom’s, mom who worked in the Italian Royal palace as a lady in waiting. To me, this is the definition of true glam!
I really love the idea of playing with style and would love to incorporate a vintage vibe😉 into wardrobe but have no idea where to start and at 46 years old I also worry that I would just look old and out of date rather then intentional 🤷♀️. I love that you do you, and I love your channel 🥰 thanks
Late to the party, but between you, Ms. Banner, Ms. Donner, and everyone else in the CosTuber community, I’ve leaned in hard in “I don’t give a fluff.” Edwardian vibing... a little, sort of... but with modern fabrics. Floor length black wrappers with yoga trousers under them for warmth in Nebraska winters, over black bodysuit leotards for scoop neckline, topped with close-fitting vests that give a silhouette like a corset would, hair bound up and pinned into a beret... choice bits and bobs of my handmade jewelry, plus makeup... and a black wool cape. Every where I go, I get appreciative looks and questions, and I feel great and like my most authentic self.
So happy to have found you. I am slowly incorporating Edwardian men's clothing into my every day wardrobe and appreciate that there are others who enjoy dressing in other than sweat pants and a hoodie :) Merci mon ami
YAS THIS MY ERA 🙌🙌🙌 I loved this video! I've started wearing my flouncy Edwardian tops with dungarees as I like that kind of industrial/historical maah-up kinda look 👌
Two More Tips to consider for a Edwardian look; 1) Wear a simple cotton petticoat under whatever skirt you own. It helps to balance out the look of the skirt by preventing your legs or bum clinging to the actual skirt fabric. If you look back at old photos a key aspect is that the skirt itself creates something of a "mystery" by not adhering to the body passed the waistline. It seems like it's an object unto itself that doesn't really hint at the wearer's body shape. No matter what your skirt's hem is, this simple under layer really helps to ensure, even if your skirt is very modern, that the fabric "sits" right on your body from a historical perspective. A cotton petticoat is really just a tube of fabric that cinches in at the waist enough not to fall off; no matter what sewing methods you choose it makes for a good beginner's project if you don't want to buy one (it's a great project because no one will see it so no one will know if you're stitches are messed up). 2) Cover bare legs with socks or tights. If you are going with a skirt not to the ankle, wearing socks or tights to hide the flesh of your leg really helps. Edwardians and Victorians had a lot of hang-ups with human anatomy and creating an outfit that "acknowledges" those phobias helps give it a more historical vibe. I also notice they were scared of collar bones, thought wrists were a bit iffy and were terrified by knees. KNEES! Oh what has the world come to?! Somehow they had less problems with areas that were more "fleshy" or rounded and less boney / veiny. My theory is that science was a real curiosity at the time, but people still wanted to imagine themselves as being slightly separated from the natural world.
Edwardian was my first proper venture into vintage dressing back in the 80s when Out of Africa changed my life. (If you haven’t seen the movie, treat yourself) I had an ankle length beige skirt and stole one of my father’s linen jackets which I wrapped and belted to look more safari and ankle boots with heels and laces. It startled the small market town I lived in but I loved that outfit! :)
I'm in love with this look, you're killing it 👏🏼👏🏼💖 Also I'd love to suggest a princess bride look book! I think it's be fun to see you try all the diff main characters!
Thank you so much Rachel!! I start my first job this Friday at a Victorian/Edwardian shop and this really helped me figure out what I should wear to make a good impression. Thank you!!
I'm here watching your videos and I can only think that you were definitely are some type of time-traveler, as you look stunningly beautiful in any style you try from previous centuries 🖤
Just in time for my life! I just recently got in to edwardian style and trying to work it in to my every day life without looking like i walked off a movie set I love this!! I'm glad you dont feel pressure to stick to one decade.
Hoory for Bernadette mention, Im so glad you like her stuff too! Have you seent he stuff her buddy is doing for Lady Watson? Super fun! I think the phrase "How you choose to decorate your meatbag is up to you " is now in our family lexicon. Also, needs to go on merch.
I'm in LOVE with your top. That's exactly what I want to do, mix edwardian with modern styles. Also I really haven't ever given a fluff what people think about what I am wearing, been dressing "weird" since I was in high school and I'm now 32.
Edit: Because of repercussions from a severe concussion I just got to watch this again for the "first" time! I'm new to this channel and this was the PERFECT answer to my questions. I have so many clothes and wanted to turn them into Edwardian outfits by mixing and matching. Thank you so much!
I just love you and your channel so much! I love getting notified that you've uploaded, it makes my day! This is an awesome video! I love love love the style and tips, I'm not that confident but I live through you so that's good enough lol
I'm drawn both to the 50s style dresses and Edwardian skirt/top combos, but I've been having trouble finding skirts and blouses I like. I realized this week it is because I like skirts to have about a 2" waistband that sits on my natural waist and has the tops tucked in. I now have a goal in searching for skirts rather than wishing I could wear things I like. Now to find the items and fit them into my business casual work wardrobe lol.
I am obsessed with edwardian fashion, and I mean OBSESSED, but I also love a lot of other styles like types of goth, cottagecore, lolita, early 1860s fashion and more, and I can't quite figure out what style to go for Edit: I find that the cycling pants women wore with boots that go about half way up you shin looks really nice with a striped blouse
Hello Peaches!!! I love the neverending story song. Well...I live that long pleated skirt. Looks perfect with the cream high neck blouse. Nice that you mentioned Bernadette Banners channel. Have a great weekend.
Yesss, this is so good!!! I used to have no problem doing Edwardian/Victorian looks in my goth days but lately found it harder once I was trying to do more looks inspired by those eras but coming from a 1940s ish standpoint. Great tips, because life is too short to live in one era!🤗🤗🤗
Growing up, Evelyn Carnahan (The Mummy) opened my eyes to the sort of fashion I wanted to make my own. Her hair!!!! And soon I discovered Edwardian. Now I have a wonderful collection of garments that my partner makes fun of me for.
Edwardian is my favorite!!!! Also I love the titanic era! As you said, most of us have the freedom to wear what we want and this is what matters. As for shoes, I love them from American Duchess, they are so cute and comfy. They’re pricey though, otherwise I’d have many many more!!!!! 🥰
i thought the pants looked so good with the big frilly top! it reminded me of making a darcy costume last minute and all you have is high waisted pants and a poofy shirt (and yes, neither the 70's nor edwardian era match darcy, but still. poofy shirt).
I agree with the first part, my favorite garment is a kilt. People usually give 1 of 3 responses. 1: they ignore me. 2: "I love your outfit!" 3: is there an event or holiday today?. Nope! I just like wearing kilts!
I love the sheer variety in historical fashion community - personally, I describe myself as “medieval goth” in black plain renaissance gowns. While the 40s and 50s have the biggest following, I love seeing all the other decades and centuries people dress up in
I love this. Gorgeous hair dos and I love your pretty blouse. Often forget about this era because it was a swift one but actually some lovely elements to bring out xxxx
So....this is the first of your videos I have seen and I must say what a wonderful introduction! I absolutely adore your personality. Your references and music choice is interesting. (Your parents must be around my age??) Anyways, greatly enjoyed it and it was extremely entertaining to watch. I appreciate your search tip for blouses; I will definitely keep it in mind for the future. I actually got really lucky and found a great Edwardian inspired blouse at Marshalls recently; it is a "FP One/Free People" brand, cotton blouse.
I wear skirts everyday because I feel more comfortable in them and honestly walking up the stairs is the best part of any day. I always imagine I'm some sort of princess is a huge ballgown and my day becomes 2000% better
Folkwear has some great patterns (for both sexes) if you'd like to make your own clothes. The Historical Emporium has some excellent ready to wear and accessories for both genders......just putting it out there.
Omg... the ending of this video with you and Frodo is adorable. This makeup look is so nice. Your face is so incredibly pretty also I love your hair with the curls. You're beautiful. Sorry but I have to tell you. I'll leave now... *fades into distance of RUclips comments*
Hi, Coming from a few generations ago (doesn't really say anything about age, does it) I'm very grateful for your interpretation of the English language, and the expletives there in. I hope more of the younger generation (still not about year of birth) will follow. I wish we would see something akin to this in my native language. I'm not completely bi-language-ed except when I'm tired and can't make sense in either.Yours, Ann

I just recently came across your videos. I have to say that you are just so fun to watch and I enjoy your videos. 😄
You should cosplay Anathema from Good Omens (the new mini-series)! She's got a very vintage inspired wardrobe!
Omg your are my hero!!! Thank you for giving voice to how I feel about fashion.
I love your hairstyles ❤️❤️
"Who gives a fluff!" will now be added to my vocabulary xxx love it :)
Exactly. What. I. Was. Looking. For. 🙏
Your skin looks so radiant and beautiful!
I always stay until the very end 'cause I freaking love your silliness, and your dog's too, of course! 😄
I like doing a French twist all the way around sort of creating a halo to get an Edwardian-esc hair. It's simple, easy, and quick.
Rachel serving some serious Emma Watson *vibes* at 7:27
Yesss I love that you played never ending story song at the end and did the same short dance I do.
Hehehehehe
Luving ur "vibe"!. Love Miss Banner too .
I adore the hairstyle 🥰
Queen Rachel referenced Queen Bernadette! My day is made!
You are forever an inspiration! ❤️❤️❤️
Finally someone who thinks for themselves! A pleasure to see!
I do too I loves the Victorian and Edwardian and the 30s,40s 50sand 60s era's.
i thought the pants looked so good with the big frilly top! it reminded me of making a darcy costume last minute and all you have is high waisted pants and a poofy shirt (and yes, neither the 70's nor edwardian era match darcy, but still. poofy shirt).
I love the Edwardian era. This was a great video.
Rachel! This is so brilliant! Love this and you! xoxo
Ahh thank you bb! Love you back!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I agree with the first part, my favorite garment is a kilt. People usually give 1 of 3 responses. 1: they ignore me. 2: "I love your outfit!" 3: is there an event or holiday today?. Nope! I just like wearing kilts!
This style really suits you well. Love those frilly lace-y tops.
I love the sheer variety in historical fashion community - personally, I describe myself as “medieval goth” in black plain renaissance gowns. While the 40s and 50s have the biggest following, I love seeing all the other decades and centuries people dress up in
Love it!!!!
I love your personality so much!
I love edwardian fashion ! I needed this video and you made it, I'm so happy.
I can’t wait to start my vintage journey and this video gives me so much inspiration!
I love your style and the fact you have the confidence to rock it. No fluffs given lol You go girl.
When I did reenacting one summer, I wore my paddock boots and it worked really well.
Rachel, you are a vision of loveliness! And this video is both interesting&beautiful!
I really love your videos!❤️😍 also, i have to say, the edwardian era makes you look stunning, i really want to try this kind of styles!❤️
Ahh! My favorite era!! I've also found that if you have a pair of Mary Jane's with low heels, its actually historically accurate and super cute! :D
Always in love with your channel, plus you had The Neverending Story today! Yes!!
YESSSSSS I HAVNT EVEN WATCHED IT YET BUT IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS VIDEO MY WHOLE LIFE
Hi, Coming from a few generations ago (doesn't really say anything about age, does it) I'm very grateful for your interpretation of the English language, and the expletives there in. I hope more of the younger generation (still not about year of birth) will follow. I wish we would see something akin to this in my native language. I'm not completely bi-language-ed except when I'm tired and can't make sense in either.Yours, Ann
Enjoyed this so much!
Well done! Love the 70’s Edwardian.
I love this. You gave me so many excellent ideas what to do now. Thank you so much ☺️.
Bernadette Banner is amazing!
I love this so much! The Edwardian style is just so beautiful to me
What the fluff! Another great video Rachel. Waiting without patience for another Cos-play video. GOD bless you. With love from Buffalo NY.
LOVE THE HAIR😍
My goddess I love this style and wear it so many years now 😍 well done!
the SCA has a song they sing that explains a common encounter they have while in the wild called "are you in a play?"
The best compliment I ever got was when I was touring Lincoln Prison in full Victorian gear and a tourist thought I was a ghost. Achievement unlocked!
i was waiting for this video YES
