    Your path mirrors my own, brother. I am waiting on my index to arrive currently, as I could no longer deal with Meta's crap tier software both for game development and content creation, I completely stopped making content for RUclips because I was burned out on the non stop obstacles that trying to do anything pcvr related presented in the meta ecosystem.

    I have had my Index for 3 years. I also have had a Vive (which I still use the base stations from), a Rift, Rift S, and my brother somehow managed to buy two Quest 2's at Xmas this past, so he sent me one. You can't beat the Index Knuckles, for sure, but I do like the Quest 2 quite a bit. I bought the Onn "Deluxe Cooling Headstrap" from walmart and that made a huge difference in the comfort and allows me to play a lot longer before my face gets tired. I tried the Logitech Chorus headphones, which are like the Index headphones, but the lack of passthrough for the cable link was a deal breaker.

  • @AnandaFury
    @AnandaFury 8 месяцев назад +2

    The biggest advantage of the Index over the Quest 3 is it does not need a battery. The battery life of the Quest 3 is so short that you need 2 extra batteries. One to wear and one to charge. Of course with the Index you have to deal with a cable. For PCVR I prefer the Valve Index, because of my very long VR sessions and I have only a RTX 3060. Not enough power for Quest 3 PCVR.

    It is definitely a cool headset. I am waiting for the next one if I would get one from valve. I have the quest 3 and have no complaints other than battery life. I'm learning VR development as well and the oculus works well with unreal engine. Also oculus runs android which means I can also develop just apps in general.

    I don’t think saying the Quest 3 is $700 is a valid argument.
    Link cable is not necessary (arguably worse than wireless) and quoting the meta elite strap/grips price is also disingenuous.
    $500 plus a $30 bobovr/kiwi strap is all that’s needed to have a comparable PCVR (better or worse in different aspects) experience plus standalone capability.

      Including a nice audio solution and other accessories other people might value. Point is it’s not $500 flat, most people will buy accessories where the quest leave out the box. Even a case, stand, cable etc

    Bro idk you but I like small channels and your style. I wish that you reach the goals you set yourself as content creator and have fun along the way :) if you keep the quality our gonna go big within the next 1-2 years especially since vr is coming and this is not gonna be a gimmick that's never used like 3d tv's around 2010-15.
    Wish me luck that I can someday afford a good vr pc and maybe a better headset like quest 3 or index without selling my fricking kidney and/or body/dignity 😂 bought a user quest 2 for myself for my 30th bday last year since it looked rly interesting/promising. I mean I follow vr stuff since the rift but I did not want to waste money (a friend bought a mentioned 3d TV and we were hyped but he ender up having a single 3d blueray and that was that and I wasn't sure at the early vr days if this is gonna happen to vr too but damn after seeing what the quest 2 could do for that price (got rlllly lucky bought it for my bday in April so lots of ppl. that bought it for Xmas and realising that they have motion sickness/don't use it that often so I ender up paying I think 200-250€ and low on behold a few month later the price was raised again). But now I'm blown away by vr and need a pc, for vr I need a fton of vram so 3090/ti/4090 it is and I can't afford that back in 2008ish I could get a pc for less than 500 bucks, get a good graphics card at the time 8900 or 9700 or something like that for 200 maybe toss in 50 bucks for some fans, casemods and call it a day. Nowadays only the GPU costs more than a pc (2k-2,5k in Germany) and that's just the f*ing G-P-U😮 no case, no cpu, no motherboard, no ssd/hdd, no ram, no power supply nothing😢 what I'm trying to say if you know somebody in need of a kidney and/or liver transplant let me know I'll hook u up😂 working in IT for over 15 yrs now I need a pc my company sucks even though we're Adkins and gave full access to the customers systems through rdp our own f*ing laptop is locked down so badly I can't even update a driver yaaaaay. But for real would trade 1 kidney or half of my liver (liver grows back only organ to do that) for a gaming pc/vr, fbt setup. I promise the kidneys are almost brand new and the livers only slightly used but as a German coming from the sacred land of beer, bratwurst and beautiful old city's I can personally vouch for the quality of my liver it's only slightly used by German standards but it will easily get you through college / party's and other gatherings I promise.

    Waiting for my index to arrive right now, I've just been fed up with my 3 years using the quest 2. The thing is practically falling apart. The quest 2 (and now the quest 3) really isn't a bad way to get into vr and start pc vr but for 3 years I have been dealing with meta's broken software and low quality hardware. For standalone vr it is not a bad headset but the fact they said it could do pcvr and still be good makes me kinda mad, as it's pcvr performance is insanely bad. Every time i try to use the link software I have to restart the headset completely. Since the thing has a battery it can die while plugged in, making it awful for long sessions. And use of pcvr on the quest 2 degrades the battery over time as you have what is essentially both power and information going to your battery and headset. When I first started using my quest 2 for pcvr it would last 7 hours while plugged in and would still have some battery left. now it barely lasts 3 while plugged in. I think the only thing I can compliment is the controllers as they use AA batteries and can last weeks before you have to change them. also the quest 2 controllers are insanely durable. Don't even get me started on resolution and bitrate while using link. The quest 2 is an awful pcvr headset and it didn't take me long to figure that out but it has taken me 3 years to do anything about it because only now is it really annoying me that the quest 2 is super unstable and so is it's software and most the the development companies and games meta now owns. Honestly feel really bad for onward. This comment was really just trashing the quest 2 but I've used it so much already and honestly have had a great time using it. I'm glad someone else actually has talked about it's issues that no-one else seems to talk about. every other youtuber who compares the quest 2/3 to the valve index never really talk about the visual quality of how it actually *feels* to use the headset. Underrated youtuber right here, doing better than most other vr youtubers have in the past 3 years.

    The quest 3 is just much better value in my opinion.
    It's wireless which massively increases immersion so long as you are playing standalone or with a good connection.
    There's no hassle in setup as you don't need to physically dedicate a set space for the VR and mount tracking stations.
    It's higher resolution and has better lenses.
    It has hand tracking making it stellar for watching videos.
    It can be brought with you on travels and over to a friend's and still be a fully functional game console.
    Also, when counting up actual cost you should definitely not be using Meta official addons. They are way overpriced and low quality compared to third party addons like the BoboVR strap with hotswappable battery going for like $70.

    • @MOBEASTGAMING
      @MOBEASTGAMING  9 месяцев назад +4

      I was using the meta official as a base because other accessories prices fluctuate but the point of it is that there’s added costs that add up. Which slowly creep up to that index price tag.
      But yea I agree the Quest 3 is a solid headset until the deckard or something else comes out

  • @JPWestmas
    @JPWestmas 8 месяцев назад +1

    What put me off of the Index were all the reports of the cable wearing out and the controllers breaking. Valve wasn't super eager to replace these parts at first. I loved the Rift s controllers so I stuck with the Oculus tech. It also made the most sense at the time where I could get a quest2 soon after for $299 and then mod the strap and headphones. Now for $499 the quest 3 is not looking as appealing (even though a less blurry quest is super appealing to me) but since they are clearly focusing only on Android VR games, which is fine, its not the best reason why I play VR. Now, something like the Deckard that hopefully is designed to work with a a beefy video card; Has better lenses and resolution; This would make so much more sense. For $1000 it has to have premium quality though, not reports similar to what the Index had. Until that happens I'll stay on PSVR for a while, been having more fun on there anyway.

    my biggest problem isnt, that some parts are really outdated compared to other HMDs today, its that the price never corrected for that. compared to what the quest 3 offers, its not a good value when both costs the exact same but the quest even comes with controllers on good tracking for the same price, that valves still asks just for the index without basestations and controllers. my this point, the index itself should be a 250-280€ HMD, but its hasnt moved one bit in 4 years. cant count the headphones from the index, cuz i dont mind cableling my good ones onto it

      I talk about this in my video towards the end. It really depends , do you have the extra cash? We are nearing the new age of Valve VR hardware, no exact date though. Are you okay buying this and risking the release of index 2 soon? Maybe check out Quest 3? If none of that bothers you , have the extra cash, and only play pcvr and don’t like meta at all…then I’d say it’s worth checking out. Well you can play PCVR with both but quest 3 you get the standalone native game library. I usually don’t record games native on the quest 3. There are a few extra steps but I much prefer recording gameplay on PCVR. With standalone native gameplay the Quest 3 would have to split resources between rendering the game and recording at the same time. Just something to consider, so battery life will be less, performance will take a bit of a hit, but etc
      But if you get a Quest 3 you’ll still have access to PCVR, virtual desktop, steam link, cable link, and the stand alone VR library. With the index it’s different, it’s for a specific audience with it being 4 years old now. Is money an issue? What do you prioritize more? Quest 3 is close to index, index needs space for base stations, index has more FOV, Deckard possibly coming soon? Some questions and things to ask yourself
      Hope this helps

    it is not a good time for VR. Another year of great hardware to experience short bad looking indie experiences. It is so crazy how these companies have forgotten software is supposed to move the hardware. The Index's $1000 full kit price tag intrigued me and then for what you got it was priced properly. I had a quest 1 when I ordered the Index. 83 days later... unboxed it, plugged it in, put it on and took that shit right back off and immediately started wiping the lenses lol that hmd is the god of god rays. But I am just like you, i couldn't play Alyx without index controllers. Last HMD I bought was last year, I still haven't played Alyx because after Alyx. There's simulators and then NOTHING !! But Index controllers aren't all that because if you try to play with a gun stock, reloading will get your head blown off. every time you slap your controller back onto the stock the sensors go crazy and your controllers fly off for like 3-5 seconds. And no to wireless pcvr !!!!!!!!!! PCVR via DP = BEST!! Index comfort is not all that because it WILL get hot. Index is super delicate, a 2 foot drop chipped the plastic piece off of my left headphone. Valve customer service is ehhhh. i only ever used them one time and i think it took like 4 months to get a right controller replacement. and only reason why i got it is because i finally remembered i was supposed to be getting a controller replaced. and index is NOT WORTH IT TODAY AT ALL WHATSOEVER !!!!!!!!!!! low resolution, screen door effect is super crazy, the glare is unacceptable, the controllers are sensitive and delicate. Index got surpassed when the Vive Pro 2 come out. and if someone has money i would tell them to get a big screen beyond, quest pro, varjo aero or if they have money and just dont care about mixed bag results, i would recommend the pimax crystal too. BUT NEVER THE INDEX !!! its too close to 2024, bro, thats crazy. these are not consoles, these get upgrades every year

      I see your points. VR right now is in the age and stage of how gaming consoles first came out. So many different devices, differences, tech is growing fast, everyone is getting a feel, developers are working hard on trying to figure out what works, etc. There's so many layers to the whole niche and each device. Each has their Pros and Cons. VR has its ups and downs but its growing

      "Index got surpassed when the Vive Pro 2 came out" Good joke.
      if you think the glare and god rays on the Index are bad, the Pro 2's are like the final boss. How about it's microphone that sounds worse than a webcam from 1998? Or the fact that the panels in that headset get SO hot that there's confirmed reports of people's lenses in their pro 2's literally MELTING. What a hunk of overpriced dogshit honestly.

      Just bought one the other day, it is so worth it for content creation, and it runs on PC vr so smooth with out any compressed imaging like with the quest 2 and three and especially with the quest 3 battery life problem, mostly the reason I didn't get that instead. And the tracking, knuckles, microphone, performance, 144 hz, amazing off ear headphones, and the 130 fov on the index is just a no brainer.

      Just depends , as far as we know there aren’t any major consumer line hardware releases coming soon at the time of this comment. Deckard still doesn’t have a time line, so if you don’t mind buying an older headset with the possibility Deckard coming soon then go for it. Quest 3 or index are great for pcvr. If money is an issue i say go quest 3. Just depends what you prefer more

      I just bought mine a few days ago but still had some of the concerns you stated. I got mine mostly for sim racing. My reasoning was because it seemed like the most well rounded option. Easy use with pc, high frame rate 144hz, good audio, wide FOV, decent resolution though not the highest but i figure sacrificing a little resolution would help with performance. I have a 2070 super gpu with an i7 cpu. Also the index has the best controllers when i decide i want to play a game that requires controllers. And finally, i like Valve as a company and feel better about giving my money to them rather than Meta Quest/Zuckerburg.
