Nice to hear you're having a positive experience! Good to see that VR performance is improving. I haven't strapped on the headset since this patch, will have to see how things feel with some lower specs.
Awesome! i knew Fdev could do it! And well done to you for staying with it and working as hard as you have to see the difference and share your findings . You're a fine chap.. Thank you chap o7
Man could you please share your headset type and the settings you use? Your anti-aliasing looks great! I couln't achieve even remotely this good picture with my 2080Ti/Samsung Odyssey+ Thanks!
Hey there. Nice video. One note that I still see the single off-angle frame regularly. I’m an exclusive vr player, also with 5800x and a 3080. Performance wise, clearly it’s improved some over time, but to say that it’s better than horizons is… crazy. Did you test this? I get higher frame rates and much, much less reprojection in horizons still, compared to EDO; even with Edo set one notch lower in the in-game HMD super sampling setting. I’ve done quite a lot of testing recently and particularly chasing is one issue that seems to impact the game everywhere, not just in VR. And that is the game not utilizing 100% of gpu or cpu while dropping frame rate below the cap. This is a little more complicated to test since it needs reprojection to be turned off. But anyway, I’d love to hear your input if you are interested in checking it out. Cheers!
I can't wait for our hardware to catch up to the hungry needs of our vr headsets. I got myself a hp reverb g2 for Christmas this year. I haven't played ED for nearly a year and decided it was time to get back into it, but in VR this time. For the life of me, I could not get my joystick (a thrustmaster t16000m) to work in the game. I was blaming the game, but finally discovered that although it is seen by the PC and the TARGET software, nothing responds. After a ton of testing I finally decided it has died. Went on a joystick search and have settled upon a VKB Gladiator NXT matched with my existing Thrustmaster TWS. Now I just need to wait impatiently until my joystick comes in, spend hours re configuring all the buttons, fight with the vr to work with the game, and them start enjoying this game again. Currently running an AMD 3600xt so it will probably be a bit of a struggle. Plan on getting either a 4070 or 4080, whenever I can. Hopefully it won't be another fiasco like the 3000 series has been.
I wouldn't say "incredible' performance, as my i7 4790k / GTX 1080 was stable at 90fps in Horizons but seems to be CPU limited in ODY, therefore is kind of stuck at 45fps (Rift CV1). A CPU upgrade will happen sooner or later, but yeah, nice in depth review for us VR users, thanks!
Its certainly still falling short of horizons but on flat screen monitors the fps has almost doubled since launch - hopefully frontier keep going and drive even more optimisation - and maybe one day VR space legs (I can dream...)
I don't understand why they havent done it - you can use an external camera when on foot in VR, so why not add controller tracker and go all in - hey ho - maybe one day
@@VirtualRealityPilot it's almost incredible that they were actually considering removing VR entirely at one point, probably to avoid the clunky switch to flat screen while on foot. This does however give me hope that on foot VR could be on the way. They also needed to optimise it first.
I wouldn't have been able to go back to playing on a monitor - so glad this didn't happen. Apparently star citizen still plan to do VR which is why they have designed the buttons and ships the way they have, maybe that will inspire Frontier to follow suit?
Fack Frontier. The game was running great in Horizons, now it is unplayable with low framerates due to the new graphics. They shouldn't have messed with the engine at all. Now people with old computers can't play Odyssey in VR, No, I will not buy a new computer to play Odyssey,. Why change what wasn't broken....
Odyssey is still a dog when it comes to VR performance, not many even come close to having your class rig, where a much lower spec rig runs fine in Horizons.

o7 commander. Finally performing like I remember - time for some anti Xeno hunting I think 🤔
Great video. What settings are you using? I can get decent performance but the aliasing makes it unplayable, but yours looks much better.

Great detective work!

Most welcome 🙏

Target software sucks. T16000m works with E.D out of the box without the need for target.
Great vid.
But the "devs" still don't give a shit about the VR players.

ONLY green graphs should be in FpsVR! 🤨
I seriously hope that you are not running the game with AMD FSR on.
I thought theres no VR in odyssey
All is VR except the onfoot first person view.

Got a better rig and it runs fubar wonder what his settings are I get glitchy stutters everywhere
Odyssey is unplayable in VR when in Horizons runs great. They shouldn't have messed with the damn graphics. Uninstalled.
Horizon legacy runs and looks better in VR.
