No offense but who gives a shit what the chat was saying lol
Playstation demo discs were peak aesthetic. The sounds, the vibe, the backgrounds.
The value, too. Free pile of small games that were good at least half the time, some like Spyro or Hot Shots Golf were content-inclusive enough to replay multiple times, could get a lot of hours out of it.
PS2 games back then in general had very appealing aesthetics and art design- very evocative of the Y2K era, especially for the first two years (2000-2002).
MGS2, FFX, The Bouncer, Zone of the Enders, Tekken 4, Okage, GTAIII, and Ico are the first things that come to mind.
@@KnownAsKenji Damn right!
@@chemergency Absolutely iconic era, coming off that XTREME 90's wave but riding the ripples into some unique experiences.
Heck yeah
Vinny was literally 5 minutes away from finishing the FFX Zanarkand demo
Next time he plays a demo disc I hope its when he is less tired especially after how bad that plug and play console was
I miss this era of gaming. Not so much the games as much as the vibe of it: demo disks, cheat codes, early game websites. It just felt more alive
Honestly some of these games still hold up DW3 is not as good as say modern Warriors games or even DW5 on the ps2 but its still a fun to revisit every now and then
FFX is still my second favorite final fantasy game its hokey at times but then it hits you in the gut
@@ImmaLittlePip Oh don't get me wrong I love the games from this era too. I just mean how nowadays the atmosphere around gaming feels much more bland than it used to, just this single demo disc is brimming with personality
@@DrNotnert ahhh true
Plus let's face it there's no mystery around the game anymore
Once a new game comes out it's dissected till all the secrets are known
Gone are the days when L is real might be a thing and a secret room people discovered by accident isn't well known
For the longest time, I thought it was just the energy of childhood making it feel like that... but really, it's the way technology was back then, isn't it? Not having constant and immediate access to everything made it easy to be mesmerized. Leaks, datamining, full let's plays, etc. etc. didn't exist. Everything was word of mouth, or the luck of the right source (like these discs). You could play something for months and still not know everything about it!
It reminds me about how I've gotten so bored with streaming services having everything I want on-demand that I've started missing the spontaneity of cable.
There were much fewer Simulation and political games back then, so no I would never want to return to a time before I was born thanks 😃😃
In some ways FFX holds-up better now than when it was new. I'd love to see Vinny play it next time he feels like getting into a JRPG.
Definitely. I also feel that the characters are ones that grow on you as you get older. I find myself liking Tidus a lot more than I did as a kid.
Demo Discs were such a blessing to have back in the day, its one of those “you had to be there” moments to experience the magical experience of getting to try an upcoming game before it releases. One of the best parts about the 90s and early 2000s.
I remember playing the Need For Speed Underground demo on one of these discs for hours with my cousin. Mostly doing the drag race mode and we would take turns. At the time being a kid and not having money for new games this was great.
The PS1 demo disc with Raystorm, IQ and Croc ruled. Those three games I played to death.
It was also really cool whenever youd experience the rare demo that had content that was altered in the full release.
I am so glad Vinny played this
I sent him this pack and glad he enjoyed most of these games, Some really outdated by today's standards
But this pack is what got me into Dynasty warriors and Final fantasy. I remember every christmas I would beg my mom and dad to get me Dynasty warriors and Final Fantasy X.
I hope chat liked it I plan to send him a few more demo discs.
Also I'm replaying DW3 and I've noticed they fixed or at least made it easier to ride mounts from the demo to the full release
The demo disc stuff was a real treat
@@LeudieBlues Glad you enjoyed the next one I plan on sending has a demo of ace combat 5 and SH4
This takes me back, man. I would look forward to every demo disc when I got magazines religiously as a kid, every month, lol. I remember this disc.
Pip getting the content in there after commenting for 8 years. Champ.
This was a huge hit of nostalgia, thank you for sending this in to him! Hopefully if you send in more he'll check them out too, I have such good memories of demo discs as a 90s kid that this was a delight.
"We're gonna play a little bit of Final Fantasy 10". Always wanted to hear Vin say that lol.
DYNASTY WARRIORS 3! MY CHILDHOOD! "Father! Let ME have the FOREfront!" also, "My Magiiiiiiick" *wiggly hands*
Jak and Daxter is goated. If Vinny has never played any of the 3 on his stream I hope he does someday.
He'd be wise to do so through the recent PC sourceports or the PS4 ports. Much better experience than grappling with PCSX2's limitations.
PS1 Demo discs with the trippy backgrounds and cool music.
the Extermination trailer freaked me out as a kid, the monsters looked so veiny
also i played that dynasty warriors 3 demo a million times, the animation of the wolfhead-claw guy running away is burned into my memory permanently
@@xxjay7lol
Oh my god, Okage!
I have such a soft spot for that game.
I love it so much, despite its jank.
It's so charming.
That game always felt like Earthbound for emos to me. Really like its Tim Burton-y art direction.
I only know it because of Austin Eruption, but it looks fun
Vinny streaming my favorite game ever Final Fantasy X? I can finally die happy (yes, this is a demo, yes, he streamed it before, just lemme have this ok?)
I would pay good money to watch Vinny play through Jak and Daxter, and the entire trilogy if he enjoys the first game.
There are clips of Vinny streaming FFX from a decade ago floating around.
I've been looking for that whole playthrough think it's long gone though
@@MrWolfSnack ah I figured, well that sucks 😞 guess I should have got on that Vinesauce train earlier
Man I hope we one day get a Dark Cloud 2 stream. That game was insanely ambitious
The weapon trees and Georama/building system are my two favorite aspects of DS2, and I think that Vinny would have a blast playing it.
Maybe one day Vinny will play X again, I actually did really like Tidus when I played it for the first time last year
The reason SSX Tricky doesn't look so nice is because the emulator doesn't properly render any of the lighting, postprocessing effects, or fog. It still looks great on real hardware or with tweaked emulation settings perhaps.
I'd love to see the PS1 Playstation Magazine demo discs, those always had really neat bonus stuff like import demos and concept art
There's a RUclips channel of someone cataloguing them. You'll have to search 4 it sorry
Man that menu music hit me hard
I had the Pizza Hut one, it was me and my families favorite game. My parents still quote parappa the rapper to this day.
MY BUNS ARE VERY TOASTY
"So many gamers, so little time". Dang, people used to say such cool phrases back in the day..
Had this demo disc as a kid. I remember playing the dynasty warriors 3 demo and loving it so much, I asked my mom to buy me DW4 when I saw it at a game store (don't remember the store name). They were doing a "buy one, get a random game for free" so I ended up with Hitman Contracts as well.
Someone should make Demo Disc corruptions.
OMG I literally just found this exact demo disk in my garage. This one was so good :)
I actually had this specific disk, as one of few that got to me when I got a hand-me-down PS2, so this is max nostalgia
Wild to learn that Kinetica was actually Santa Monica Studio's first game and the game's engine was later used for both God of War and God of War 2. Who'd have guessed that dad bod Kratos originally evolved from scantily clad motorcycle-human cyborgs
I remember that game giving me motion sickness, but the game's aesthetic and the crazy track layout (in-universe they use magnets, I think) kept me coming back.
Having Vinny play through the Jak and Daxter games, even just the first one, would be such a treat. Especially now with a certain project going on
I used to play this specific demo disc all the time! How I actually got into some of my now favorite genres
I used to love the Playstation Underground demo disks cause both the PS1 and PS2 ones would give you those Memory Card downloads that would have those save file with tons of stuff unlocked for certain games. I remember my buddy getting Tekken 4 for his birthday and I had the demo disk that had the Memory Card save download to unlock everything so I had to run home and then get my demo disk then run back to his place so we could download the save to his card so that way we could all play everything without having to deal with playing arcade mode hundreds of times to get most of the unlockables. good times
2001 was such an insane year for the PS2
It would be neat to see vinny play through some of these old titles. Jak & Daxter, Onimusha, so-on and so forth. Who knows, maybe it could be another charity incentive or something.
i hope vinny does more old school ps2 demo disc stuff,i love this vibe.
Either I had or one of my friends had this exact demo disc because I remember the intro with the lady and the selection of games that this has available. Holy shit, the nostalgia is real.
This is filled with so much nostalgia
HEY I had this exact demo disc. I spent so many hours replaying SSX and Kinetica. I didnt get new games alot lmao.
For me DW3 was so addicting to play I would play the Naman campaign for houses on end with my brother
i remember when i was a child i would play the PSU Demo Disc V1.3 whenever I was at my grandma’s and that’s probably what got me hooked on video games.
The one with Socom US Navy Seals I could never stop playing! :)
I feel like vinny would like the precursor legacy.
Damn Maggie is cute in a early CGI kinda way. Her and Tilde from ZDTV/TechTV are both cute
I find it interesting that she wears a different outfit in each issue she's in (even occasionally dressing up as PS characters like Lammy and Snake), imagine how much work it must've been for the animators to come up with a new outfit every issue lol
Loved these Underground demos
I would play Drakan so much as a kid. It was one of my fave games at the time. I remember there was a critical bug on pretty much all the discs that would just break the game
Oh man its so cool to see an earlier version of drakan ancients gates. I never had a ps2 so i sadly didnt get to play it but drakan order of the flame is one of the earliest video games i can remember playing. Fantastic hidden gem of a game
oh man I would love for vinny to do more of these. I had a winter 2003 and one other I think? so many games I never got to get but I could try
Okage:Shadow King is my absolute favorite janky rpg of all time.
Extermination is a decent albeit clunky survival horror game. If you like Resident Evil I recommend giving it a try.
I second this
This is one of my favorite demo discs they released. Summer 2001 is a really interesting one too, mostly because of the hub style menu.
I remember loving Draken 2 when it came out. I was blown away by the flying and size of the world. Simpler times.
OMG I remember these I had one with jak and Dexter I miss discs like them that and one of crash twinsanity demo
Final Fantasy X's demo is still incredibly impressive. Way to steal the show, Square Enix.
Holy shit vinny is playing a dynasty warriors game. The prophecy is fufilled
Yeah this takes me back to that time I played Silent Hill 3 on a jam pack and ruined my childhood
My Cousin had a PSU disc that I inherited once he ditched his PS1 for a PS2 and later XBOX. I think my favorite things about it were the news pieces about Ape Escape, Grand Turismo 2, and Um Jammer Lammy, the CTR, Omega Boost, and Pac-Man World Demos, as well as the "unlock everything" code for Bugs Bunny Lost In Time (which eventually led me to getting it physically years later)
Had a copy that had a hidden cooking game in Japanese when you pressed start+select+r1+r2+l1+l2 together. Such a core memory in my mind since I understood none of the language and learned to play completely by trial and error.
I hope this becomes a series id like to see more demo discs.
I loved drakan and the ancient gates as a kid, it's such an obscure gem. it's very interesting seeing the demo and how very very early the gameplay looked. trust me when I say it didn't control THAT poorly in the final release (though if I remember correctly it still had tank controls.)
Extermination gave me vague Hybrid Heaven vibes.
You know what we need?
*RICOCHET TWOOOOOOOO*
Or a spiritual successor to Hybrid Heaven.
P.S. Hybrid Heaven is technically a Christmas game... where you suplex.
Merry Christmas *SUPLEX!*
Okage!
I got into a few franchises through these things... good times.
I had Jampack Volume 13 growing up and played it so much. I think the only games I own from it are Sly 3, Shadow of the Colossus, and Jak X.
I really love that vinnie showed some dark alliance
i wonder if vinny'll play a final fantasy game this year
i always like his ff playthroughs and him playing the ffx demo has whet my appetite
Nah, too long for 2023 Vinny
He told us VIII was happening a few years ago, and I'm still hoping it's coming any time soon.
I rented 70% of these games from Blockbuster. What a trip down memory lane.
Don't worry about the DMCA, I've got SMB3 blasting over this anyway.
I miss demo discs they were so exciting and fascinating as a kid
I feel like Vinny would really like Ratchet and clank
Man I remember going into the Fred Myers with my dad when I was a kid to get one of these. Jam packs were my shit. $19.99 for hours of fun. Man I miss those days.
This disc is almost as old as I am (by two months); still have my copy in a box somewhere. The Jampack/Playstation Underground demo discs were aesthetic as hell, and were pretty historic at the time (e.g. they showcased the first instances of online multiplayer on the Playstation, including the first online console shooter, _SOCOM: U.S. Navy Seals)_ but not all of them are available as emulator ROMs yet, so you have to look for used copies if you want to give them a go yourself. :(
If they aren't dumped yet, dump them yourself if you have 'em.
@@KopperNeoman I have for one that I noticed wasn't uploaded yet. It was Volume 11 if I remember correctly.
@@MrWolfSnack First off, watch your mouth. I ain't a Zoomer, I work three jobs; I don't mooch off anybody, and I collect physical media as well. For your own sake, I hope you don't go around disrespecting people you don't know like that IRL. Secondly, emulators work just fine if you know what you're doing - with the exception of certain games with weirdly specific issues.
Edit: Oh and third, some games just straight up aren't available as physical copies anymore (at least not for a reasonable price), so you don't have many options in those cases.
My head is about to explode i was just talking to my brother asking him if he remembered this was a very fin demo i want to relive my childhood again
Kinetica is by the God of War devs by the way.
Love that game I remember playing this demo disc a ton as a kid.
It's start screen is also visible in a scene in the film xXx
Baldur's Gate DA giving me strong Dungeon Siege & Neverwinter Nights vibes.
I personally think FFX has the best soundtrack in the whole franchise next to 7 and (hate me all you want) 13.
Petition to rename "Let's Plays" to "Cool Moves"
The employees of old Naughty dog looked so happy
some demo disc have the entire game in it but locks it idk how to explain it but my fave game was a demo disc of japanese games and this one called “silhouette mirage” I discovered a way to play the entire game by saving and loading and saving until it glitches to jump to the locked levels and ended up beating the game!
That is so awesome. Must have been a great feeling as a kid!
@@crakhaed true! 🤩 but playing it at such a young age i felt like a criminal haha!
43:35 OH YEAH! YEEEAAAAA- *dies*
Vinny saying "graphics have peaked" about SSX Tricky is kinda funny because I don't exactly disagree, I just think he needed to wait another gen for us to get programmable shaders and HD resolutions. Like I was watching a comparison video between The Last of Us on PS3 and PS5, the 15 years of hardware evolution got us better performance, denser foliage, and more realistic fog. 15 years of hardware evolution back in the 80s/90s got you from Super Mario Bros 3 to Shenmue.
You found a demo disc that I used to have back in 2002
Okage was my shit growing up. I had the strategy guide and notes written into it. Rosalyn is still my RPG waifu.
I went back a few years ago to play it again and it was still fun. Nostalgia be damned.
Nice thumbnail putting Jenny McCarthy and Meg Ryan on there.
ah, vinny learning (or relearning probably) that not every game listed on a demo disc has a demo. Very frustrating at the time
Not an avid game guy, but I have two of these Jampack cases on my shelf.
Demos were good because they allow trying diverse genres without too much commitment.
Vinny hi, could you possibly do the Summer 2001 disc? that was the jampack disc i had i think.
7:57 that's literally a LEGO RoboRider...
Broke: Teedus
Woke: Tyedus
Vinesauce: Teenus
Regarding the chat member going Yuna crazy (objectively wrong, Lulu best grille), they are right in that VI, VII, and X are the defining Final Fantasy games. VI's all about dealing with loss causing the destruction of friendships and families and how they struggle to move on, VII's about the environment and how both you shape it and it shapes you, and X is about constructed personas and how they change you as a person and how that causes a feedback loop with the people around you. In all three the soundtrack is a mix of neo-classical baroque music and hard rock, much in the vein of it's CastleVania contemporaries. And all three tried to advance the RPG genre forward by hybridizing it with elements taken from recent advancements in other genres. III and IX are nice, and XI through XV are travesties, but when people think Final Fantasy they think Kefka, Tifa, and Tidus and not Zidane, Lightning, or Bartz (and no, Selphie doesn't count despite Nomura himself trying to shove her into everything). X however was the beginning of Final Fantasy starting to get ridiculously complex in terms of visuals, and also very self congratulatory and self referencing (mostly X-2 and ~X~ Will being at fault for that.)
31:28 holy shit XD
BRING BACK THE DEMO DISC!
Man, Drakan II looks like those atrocious mobile ads coming to life
Okage is a hilarious game.
I miss demo disc
SCROBBLES IS WHAT WE'LL CALL EM!
I had this exact demo disc as a kid, i replayed the fuck out of dynasty warriors
The only things I remember from FFX is that Woolie ruined/enhanced this game. You guys know what I'm talking about.
An al bhed named Shinra is the one who discovered how to harvest the planets energy
All I'm saying is Wakka was right
@@ImmaLittlePip Ey Bruddah, I'm not saying anything but the proof is right there.
@@diegomedina9637 "Look bruddah all I'm saying is al bheds alldedz"
Not gonna lie Vinny would probably like okage shadow king. Its a wacky hidden gem.
Jak and Daxter is an extremely fun game to play, but i'm not sure it'd be fun to stream
Is the voice in the Naughty Dog docu the GVMERS guy?
I had one
Oh shit that DW3 brings back tons of memories. I played the shit out of that even though I was never good at it. Also, once I had finished playing the shit out of it, I was done with that genre of games forever.
