- Part 1 of 2, Classic Game Room HD reviews NEED FOR SPEED SHIFT for Playstation 3 PS3, also on Xbox 360 and PSP. This awesome driving game has numerous cars and tracks and an interesting career mode that challenges you with numerous races, time trials and drifting competitions. Drive Lamborghini, Bugatti, Zonda, Ford, Nissan and Lotus on tracks from around the world like Laguna Seca and SPA. Earn stars, unlock Tier 1 through 4 and increase your driving level and garage full of exotic sports cars. This CGR review of Need for Speed Shift has gameplay from the driving game, Need for Speed Shift on PS3 showing game play during driving and replays. Master the career mode, get to level 50, earn trophies (and Need for Speed Shift achievement points on Xbox 360) and play online in multiplayer. Wow, finally, someone who agrees with me that this game is freaking spectacular! I love this game and truyly, the driving in this game is very satisfying as hearing the roar of your supped up lamborghini... I %100 recomend this game to anyone looking for a serious driving game....

This game is AMAZING! I don't know why everyone is complaining so much about it in other Tube videos. It's NOT a full racing SIM. It's a combo of both an arcade and SIM racer. The graphics are INSANE! NFS Shift currently has the BEST cockpit experience on a console IMO. I have several racing games.., including Forza 3. As far as I'm concerned the only thing Forza 3 has on this game is the physics (it's more SIM based though). Forza's races can get boring pretty quick too.
Excellent looking game and the long awaited comeback of Need For Speed. Maybe I'll get this one day for my PC.

good game, although it didn't take me long to finish, but it kept me hooked on it for some good time. the sountrack's one of my favorites as well.

the one i love about this game is that the Heads Up Display is setup like Samus Aran's helmet!!
A little more arcade-ish than I would've liked, but this guy's right. It's way fun. The moving track map on the lower left and tire sounds are better than any driving game, and should be copied for the next Gran Turismo, if Sony knows what's good for them.
are you using a wheel in the racing footage?
The one thing i don't like about Grid is the fact that you start out with an already modified car, and the one paint scheme you choose is applied to all your cars. Where as in Forza, and GT, you start out with a few grand. And add the modifications that you want, and have to add or subtract them to make your car fit a specific class, just like real life. And the custom paint/body mods/rims. What you end up with is YOUR car, the way you would build it in real life.
Love the look of this, it's like £10 now, so I'm going to have to go buy it! :)

Yes there is, there is a third person- behind the car view, and I think there is a bumper camera view.

The only NFS that i own is NFS Hot Pursuit 2 on the good old PS2 and it was alot of fun. Might give this a look.
played the demo on ps3 the other day and had a few "HOLY SHIT" moments with it. Seems pretty good.
Many people say this title is shit, Personally i never EVER played any other game that actually convinces me that i am driving a car or creates the illusion so convincingly.
Take a Fully tuned Porsche 911 gt3 push the over-steer slider up to 75%, put in a few laps at Silverstone to get used to the car, then turn up the volume. Believe this!!! you will have fun!. Throwing the car round the track and catching the back end of the car feels great. This game has not aged in my opinion.
The sense of speed is incredible, yet not over done, and they never topped that with that massive pile of shite shift 2 either. God i fucking hate that game, its virtually unplayable. The physics are not 100% realistic in shift 1, but they are good enough to make me smile.
In this game cars at start have no character. You the player must add that in yourself by tuning them, specially the RWD cars, pushing up the over-steer slider can completely change these cars into big, big fun.
I am a big fan of the so called "real sim", Raceroom R,E, but even though i love raceroom it does not convince me i'm driving at all. It just feels like all the rest, another computer game.
Love this game for what it is, and there is no wonder it got great reviews when it was released. I don't think any other game released on the ps3 beats this game, even now. I like GT6, but gt6 feels weak as piss next to playing shift.
Why are people saying its shit simply because its not got an r-factor 2 physics model? I don't get that???
Name me one other game that creates the illusion the way this game does? And its not shift 2 either. That game is fucking horrid, next to this game it feels slow and clunky and makes me want to smash the t,v, Oh and the steering model in shift 2 is soooooooo bad you can't even line the car up coming into a corner. You are simply fighting to actually keep the car on the track, anywhere on the track.
Another point i want to make, The A,I, in this title is incredible, some of the races are a complete and utter battle.
I never played any other game where the other cars on track act just like real people as much as they do in this title. Its as though you are racing real people on-line its that good.
Some of the blocking, paint trading, side slamming, and retaliating moves they do are fantastic.
Sightly Mad can do no wrong in my eyes, because they created NFS, Shift.
The crazy, mad shaking cockpit view! the speed blur! the awesome crashes!, the great A,I, the playability! the sound! the fun physics model! the immersion! What's not to like ??
I can see what the dev's were trying to create here with this title, and in my opinion they succeeded. Its a great game.

Andrej BossGaming Nothing. I prefer the cockpit views in shift though, and the Porsches definitely have better sounds than the Porsches in shift 2. I only hate shift 2 because i can't steer the cars in a straight line.
AESCULAPTORmark3 Well yeah, the steering is awful when you're using a keyboard or a controller but I don't think that's possible with steering wheel.
Andrej BossGaming Funny thing is i have a t300rs but i've never actually tried it with shift 2. I will give it a go tonight. See if its any better. I was going to have my first crack at Warframe tonight, but i think i need more time to get into that game. I hear its a bit of an undertaking.

Which one should I buy NFS Shift or Shift 2 Unleashed??? Which is the most challenging if anyone knows please tell me :)
They're quite similar, but Shift 2 has some significant improvements/aditions over the first one. You can't go wrong with any of the two.
They even have the dog gear sound in it... Freakin' sweet..
same here, Shift 1 is sweet, tough yet fun as hell, not for kids

I like to think the reason that the El Camino appears in Forza is because they listened to Lord Karnage
Something I didn't liked was the customization.
It's hard to make a nice race car paintjob because there's no way to mirror the sides after you are done with one, it's impossible to make one side like the other (I remember of doing nice race car paints for my cars in NFS Pro Street, back in my PS2); and though I know it is more for performance, I wish I could see the car body kits better before buying them...
The feeling when driving in cockpit view is the best ever, though.

@melonade97 Yes, GT is an arcade sim, a hard core sim would be something like iracing on PC with the full set up with the game seat, very expensive wheel & peddle set.

Yeah. I just bought a PS3 a few weeks ago because of that, the PS2 era really is over now.
Thankfully the PS3 slim is -relatively- cheap now, and you can get alot of top titles for just a few bucks to start your collection off.
im the exact same way and actually for me Borderlands is coming out in an hour (midnight release and i live on the far east coast of NA)

The skylines are the best cars in the game! (for handling and acceleration). Tuned my R35 GTR into a monster.
