Good job!! I remember people criticizing the highway development plan. Many of us living abroad had no plans to return home, now that others have found Jamaica as a property haven we are calling foul.
Some people seem to be against development, it seems that they expect Jamaica to be the same as when they left.
Also, development is dependent on foreign investments. People do not realize how much foreign investment is present even in the big USA.
    Progress, Mr. Prime Minister!

Throp, great video, I was born 75 year’s ago in Stokes Hall, St. Thomas, Jamaica, I have been living in NYS, USA, for 54 year’s, own a home in Jamaica and been home a few times, from my observation, Jamaica is now being well developed and from what I see taking place it’s nothing but progress, but some of the people need to start paying much more attention and look into what kind of investment can I do now that the country is being opened up with new roads being built that is giving everyone easier access and opportunities to get around whereas in the past this was a major obstacle and don’t just sit back and complain and worry about what other investor’s are trying to do, because every investor that does something for his or her self not just benefit’s that investor alone but it’s a business benefit to their community and the country on a whole. 👍🏽

@heathermoore1499, I personally understand the statement you have posted about the healthcare and I do see the need for a much better healthcare system in the Island, and at the same time I know that the government is also quite aware of this issue and I am sure that although the focus is presently not being driven the same as the roadway project I have seen broadcast on the news where the ministry of health is upgrading quite a few hospital’s which in my opinion is a positive step towards the development of the healthcare system and my statement is not in support of any politician but I’m sure that with new road’s being put in place it would make it much easier to be able to transport some of the much needed medical equipment that are going to be needed to upgrade and better some of these medical facilities with state of the art equipment, which everything that’s being done is at a snail’s pace because I remember over 50 year’s ago was when I first heard about the government wanting to work on the roadway project’s and they were blasting rocks at the White Mall Quarry which is near to the Ferry Police Station and that came to a halt for whatever reason’s, anyway I do hope they give the healthcare system a full go now that their road projects are coming to a close, which will and is also going to benefit our tourist industry.

Buy going the hospital see what need to be done do what you can to keep the hospital up and running in good condition. I agreed that many Jamaican is seeing their island growing in status abroad .Thanks to your prime minister.mr Holness, highly respected over sea.
My serious issue is the way in which utuber in Jamaica is using the island poor, old and living in zinc made shack.
I was shock to see ,this,on my cell phone.
The worse case was an old man 104 being shown on a utuber blog.
He was in pain, hungry ,left alone to fend for himself ,with only an older man assistant.
How can this be allowed to be shown abroad.
Every country as issues, from crime, homelessness ,pot holes, war etc.
Yet utuber is using these poverty area to get subscribers to help showing these blog,on poverty.
No country likes the outside world to see their poverty.
Even those utuber who goes into Jamaica ,in particular area to show crime, fearing of crime, and sadly those who is left alone in squalor, hunger, living in houses that is not fit for purpose.
I conclude to the utuber, stop making money from the poor ,or showing Jamaica in ignorant way, from those who is getting rich off Jamaican who is missing their island.
Willing to return to be on utuber camera, mostly eating as if food is scarce or only discovered that the island has males that can cook.
Dumpling is now a national thing to swallow...especially boil in coconut ,an outside fire ...
I daresay ,you are losing a battle to utuber ,patois, vulgarness, greed.

This development is great and hats off to Kevin but I can tell you that most of the owners will be persons from overseas/diaspora. I live on the North Coast I have seen similar developments and what usually happens is that the community becomes an "Airbnb" development because there aren't enough Jamaican people who earn enough to afford a high mortgage.
The difference with St. Thomas and St. Ann is significant and it will take alot of work to transform St. Thomas into a tourist friendly space. The Government is mainly concerned with the taxes that they will collect as a result of this development, not with creating a more diverse economic system for Eastern Jamaica.
If you pay attention to the speech you have yet to hear about the industrial/commercial development of St. Thomas. Hotels will not lead to sustainable economic growth; that model sustains the hotel owners not the hotel workers etc. The road to proper development does not start with just having a new highway, we need a sustainable socio-economic system where there is less crime/poverty than means of employment. The country isn't truly developing because as a people we are still lacking in the ability to think for ourselves and decide for ourselves.

@@feonasmith9226 St. Thomas has an abundance of farm lands and water sources. My family used to grow castor beans in the parish and found the conditions to be favorable. The old GoodYear factory should refurbished to create an manufacturing/packing facility for castor oil production and other value added products like coconut oil, spring water and cannabis products.
Additionally there are opportunities in recycling industry where the repurposing of waste materials e.g. tyres to produce alternative energy, membrane and road surface materials. St. Thomas has Bowden Wharfe which can be used as a commercial shipping zone to allow for the docking of cruise ships and marine trade.
Sadly the government will not allow these things to happen because it will benefit the people. Jamaican politics is dependent on the poor/poverty because maintains the status quo. You have to follow the money if you want to discover the truth.

Jamaica has been significantly upgraded in many ways, but those on the ground might not be aware of these things. I would tell all Jamaicans to get certified in Tourism and Industry, as well as engineering, and other technical skills. As jobs will be opening up and we need local skill workers. There are also opportunities to create jobs as we expand our industries. Jamaicans worrying about foreign investments are misguided as to the lack of development for many years. The only thing our leaders need to make sure of, is that we have enough trees left. :)
P.S. Big Up The Honorable Andrew Holness our Prime Minister.

Great video. Hearing what the prime minister said, I do wish the Government had a better plan for lower income communities. Why is the investment an after thought funded by forthcoming property and income taxes? Why not charge developers a tax to ensure the neighboring communities and infrastructure are being developed simultaneously? This should be a requirement at certain dollar thresholds. Make social responsibility a standard for operating a large business in Jamaica. It can be through govt taxes or programs like adopt a school, adopt a community, adopt a road, etc.

All over the world and especially so in the USA you don't burden potential investors with higher taxes that will just drive them away. You need to stop thinking that for the poor to get ahead in life you have to take from the wealthy. This is a false doctrine sold and bought by so many. The poor is oftentimes not in their position as a result of the wealthy it's more possible for the poor to get out of poverty as a result of the wealthy. Also investors are not always wealthy people oftentimes these are people who have sacrificed a lot and are also trying to move up as a result of a calculated risk. If idiots destroy the country again they will lose and lots of poor people will just continue to drink and dance. I'm an investor and have employed over 75 people over the past 4 years. Very few have listened to my advice on how to save and move ahead. Almost 80% have been to more entertainment spots than I have been to. I'm not criticizing your comment just hope you will look at things a little differently. The issue with Jamaica has always been the same..we love the poor mantra. However, loving the poor fixes nothing for the poor. We need investors, lots and lots of investors. We also need a large influx of other cultures moving to Jamaica. My number is say another 2 million people. If we get 40,000 new investors living in Jamaica and another energetic 2 million then Singapore watch out!
Do you accept that most jamaican young men are not performing in their best interest? Females are beating them hands down while they beg and beg for silly things. That's the issue you should address.

What are these guests being interviewed going to do for grass roots people who already reside in these areas? Jamaica is a beautiful country and is in dire need of infrastructure, affordable housing for its immediate residents is just one of the things on the list. I see a lot of corporate suits whose noses are so far up into the atmosphere with a lot of talk. Don’t get me wrong. I’m all for progress, however I’m not seeing enough about opportunities for those in need. So those who are investing in the island, what do they have to offer those who need proper housing, healthcare, waste management, reliable sustainable energy and water supply as well as maintaining sustainable environmental practices? I am a proud Jamaican who resides abroad. I would love to know more about those plans.

I didn't hear anything about having local Jamaicans invest or allotment of spaces for small local Jamaican business owners on the new developments properties.

All those people in the USA who said they will never go back to Jamaica and sold out all their land, I wonder how they are feeling now.

As a Kingston born and lived in Portland (Next Door St. Thomas) this is beautiful to see. I always joked about St. Thomas being bush country but to see the development being conducted I too am excited to retire back home. Shout out to you channel for providing all this value Throp

All this development is going on and they keep forgetting one main ingredient. Infrastructure like a state of the art hospital. No matter how rich we think we are, when we get sick, that is the ultimate equalizer. If you can't get medical help in a timely Manner who care where you live

Jamaicans buy land, house and own business in foreign, so why we complain?

    • @sheryl5874

The ownership of businesses, assets, etc. in Jamaica is disproportionate. Foreigners own more than the actual Jamaicans.
